I have used Paperport 14.5 for many years and also in W10. I cannot tell since when exactly, but I can not get it running anymore. A splash screen appears for a few seconds and then disappears. Thats it. I have applied the patch and I have tried to adjust the compatibility, but all to no avail. I have read the solutions in an earlier question (*) on this, but that user had just upgraded whereas I had it working on W10.
Then I downloaded the 633 mb professional update. Installing it gave me a few messages about a discussion on the serial, but even after that finished the program wouldnt start. I am now going to restart the computer and see if that helps. Then apply the patch again

Need reasonably priced Home Office Twain compatible scanning documents software.  MP Navigator suite me well for years but they no longer distribute it with the Canon MX series MFP.  What's a really intuitive scanning software that initiates the scan for ADF or flatbed, makes simple adjustments for single or double sides series of documents, and gives you options for a couple standard formats like PDF or tif, etc?  Is there a really intuitive and elegantly done software that does all that plus organizes your scan documents well?
Baby steps with PDFtoText for OCR

What steps are the first for me to take as I create a proof of concept that will be:

- a C# Winforms program
- uses the PDFtoText library for OCR

Are there any demo programs I can review? Should I just dive in?

Hello Randal,

Thanks for the email, however I don’t think I have joined your service.  An article by your Joe Winograd came up when I was searching for how to fix an issue with my scanner & Paperport 14.  Unfortunately, having followed his various suggestions I am no further along, other than now I have uninstalled the old Paperport so may be royally in a pickle.

I am not an IT professional so not eligible for membership of your community.  I am just someone who uses a PC and wishes we could go back to the olden days when you installed software from discs and the PC just happily went along until you decided to do something to it.  Nowadays I feel like I would be justified sending a monthly invoice to Microsoft for all the work they make me do trying to figure out how to sort the issues caused by their latest ‘helpful’ update.

Please give my best to Mr Winograd.   In case he’s still interested in Windows 10 and Paperport, here’s what happens when I try to installed 14.5 from the link provided in his article:

This runs:

Then I’m asked to select my language and this pops up (normally in English – must have accidentally clicked Deutsche this time!):

I’ve done a Windows uninstalled and the special Nuance uninstall, rebooted between each stage and still the same as above.

I did also download the patch (Patch 1) which he suggested but guess there’s not a lot I can do with the patch if I can’t get the .exe to run.

I am now going away to have a …
PaperPort loses connection to scanning device.
I have a scanner script that I got from here:

'--- dim objects...
dim wsh, fso, objWIAdialog, objImage, imgFilename
set wsh=CreateObject("wscript.shell")
set fso=CreateObject("scripting.filesystemobject")
set objWIAdialog = CreateObject("WIA.CommonDialog")

'--- Start the Scanner dialog box, where a scanner can be selected...
set objImage = objWIADialog.ShowAcquireImage

'--- Save and show the scan if the scan was successful...
If Not objImage Is Nothing Then
    imgFilename=fso.GetSpecialFolder(2) & "\Scan2BMP" &  Int((999999 - 100000 + 1) * Rnd + 100000) & ".jpg"
wscript.echo "Scan stored as BMP in file: " & imgFilename
    objImage.SaveFile imgFilename
End if

It works fine. I would like to tweak it so after it scans, it opens Adobe (I have the full version on Adode CS) instead of windows Image Viewer. I also don’t want to save the file, just have it scan and open in Adobe – is that possible?
I have a printed Excel workbook with all the cells with squares printed around them - not sure how else to say that.  Is there any program that could scan that information in from the printed sheet and put in an Excel document?  No, I don't have access to original document.
I have used Nuance Paperport 14.5 on windows 10 for at least a year now. Something happened the other day and I don't know what but now when I try to use the program itctells,me I seem to be running in the windows xp comparability mode and each time I try to use the program it shuts down. I have uninstalled reinstalled, run registry cleaners, contacted the manufacturer of my scanner (Brother) and Nuance along with a whole host of other things and nothing works. Help!!!

Suddenly PaperPort 14 will not allow the saving of files on the PaperPort desktop using the dragging method. Copy and Paste still works however.
We have one Win 7 64-bit computer that is giving us errors when using Adobe Acrobat Standard 2017.  One error we get is ‘There was an error while reading a stream.’  This happens when we are importing and indexing PDF documents into our document imaging system.  We are also getting an ‘Out of Memory’ error at times when doing this same process.  We have uninstalled and reinstalled the software.  We have other users on different computers using the same software and doing the same process with no errors at all.  Google searches have not given me any help.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks
Hello, I have Windows 10 and had Paperport 14 which I managed to make work for several months and then last week it stopped working. I downloaded 14.5 and have followed your instructions but it will not install as it says there is a previous version even though I have uninstalled it. I am in desperate need of this program. I appreciate your help.
While troubleshooting a different issue, I noticed the following Event Log error which is being generated each time my machine boots.  The installed version of Paperport  is 14.5, Patch 1,  on Windows 10, v 1607, 64 bit.  The exact error is:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\PaperPort\CheckPPFolders.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . A component version required by the application conflicts with another component version already active. Conflicting components are:. Component 1: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.14393.447_none_89c64d28dafea4b9.manifest. Component 2: C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.14393.447_none_42191651c6827bb3.manifest.

Looking back, the error first appears in the event log beginning 11-23-16, but I have no idea what else might have transpired on that date to cause this to begin.  I don't think I have ever had occasion to manually run CheckPPFolders.exe but I don't know whether or not it is launched by another process and runs in the background from time to time.

I lack the technical background to completely understand the error as well as how to solve it.  Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

Hello, whenever I scan a large document using Paperport it has a small window that says "Nuance WIA" and it doesn't allow me to use other programs without jumping to the top. Very irritating when trying to process a word document. I have looked through many settings and can't seem to find a way to remove it. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
After installing Paperport 14.5 I noticed that the Paperport Printer was not showing in PRINTERS.

Please advise how to install Paperport Printer with Windows 10
Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

From a previously closed post, I found out I can scan a text document straight into MS Word by using either ABBY Finereader or Paperport.  At this point, I am interested in knowing which program would work best for achieving this goal.  Any shared thoughts, suggestions, or tips will be greatly appreciated.

          Thank you.

how do I upgrade from from pp 12.1 to 14.5
I need to send someone a PDF. After scanning a text document and clicking on the document before saving it there is a drop down menu to choose formats. The file formats on the list are:
tif, bmp, pcx, jpg, pct, tga, png, and all files.
This scanner creates files that are quite large as far as pixels and I have to use Irfanview to reduce the size.
There is a Full Auto mode, Home mode and Professional Mode and I have tried all of them and once scanning and looking in the format drop down window I never see PDF as a choice.

Which tool or Web-site is fine to transfer the following file to Word format, as it is over the size of 5 MB?
Can a Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 use OCR to specifically NAME a file (PDF) as the value found when scanning?  For example, it we have a stack of invoices, all formatted the same with the Invoice Number in the same location, can we scan those and ask ScanSnap to name each individual scan page based on the value of the Invoice Number?  (I.e. Inv123.pdf, Inv456.pdf, Inv789.pdf)

Alternatively, I am more sure that we can make a PDF SEARCHABLE so that we could SEARCH within each document for a given invoice number... (i.e. search ALL PDFs that contain INV456)).  Only problem is, that would be slower than simply eyeing down a list of filenames...

Best way to scan and file similar documents?

Thank you!
What is that called?

What programs can do that for me on a Mac?

Only answer this if you can...but those using this morphed image would certainly need to know the answer. Is that morphed image my property? Anytime I use images I need to certify they are mine or public domain.

I need to see how certain color picture would look if I printed them in black and white.

How can I do this on a Mac?

I plan to use some Wikipedia images in a book which I plan to sell. And I need to be sure I am allowed to use these pictures.

Here are two sample images with different license requirements.

How am I required to annotate them? Can I use these for commercial purposes?

- Numerous PDFs in a network folder, or to be pulled into the solution via a network scanner
- Need to read the bar code and extract the 5 pieces of data for indexing. OR, OCR portions of the page with the same data as in the bar code.
- Use this data to store the document for search and retrieval later - methods may vary. Would like documents placed into folders by the date in the bar code.
- Some sort of compression or load into a database is preferred to keep file size down.
- Windows or Linux based
- OpenSource only: I want to get my hands dirty with it.

Any ideas?
