I need to write a back-end web service API as the storefront for my iPhone and Android app. I was excited about Node.js because of its high performance, asynchronous capabilities and that it was all JavaScript. But I hear good things about Drupal and its ability to be scalable because by design its more difficult to accidentally program an error into my API. But I have done no comparison of my own so please forgive me if I overlooked something important.

I like that there would be a CMS at the heart with Drupal, but I could create the schema in MySQL for a Node.js solution in about an hour.

Is the learning of Drupal and/or overhead more trouble than its worth?

Does Drupal work for a web API or just a website?

What language must I use and is it easy to learn??

How would you compare speed to market, performance and scalability with Node.js versus Drupal?

Thanks.

I'm in the process of migrating a client site (www.clientsite.com) that is currently hosting their site with Acquia Cloud.

Acquia sent me a package (site and db file), which I installed in a local test machine.

Overall, it seemed to go smooth.

The strange thing is that when trying to get to index.php (on my local test machined) I'm immediatley redirected to the current, public site (www.clientsite.com) on Acquia's cloud.

I ruled out the .htaccess file for doing the redirect.

Where else can I search for possible hard-coded redirects?

Dear experts,

I am facing a dilemma with my site. Me and my partner are building a social networking site using Drupal commons. Today when I was doing a site update, I discovered that there are like 10 unsupported commons drupal modules, like this one  https://drupal.org/project/commons_user_profile_pages . It says that this project has been merged into the main Drupal Commons repository...
So, should I be concerned? we are like 70% done with the site and I am not sure if I should keep using drupal commons or just trust that they will keep those modules into their repository every time they make an update. We need to launch this site at the beginning of December so I am not pretty sure we have the time to build a social website using just Drupal core 7 plus the required social site modules.

I would appreciate any advance, I feel like having a headache anytime soon.

thanks in advance,

Winter

We use Microsoft Exchange (hosted inhouse) for our e-mail. That's also tied to our GPO for logging into local machines.

How can I leverage this same account for our public facing Drupal site?

The goal is to have staff authenticate into our Drupal site using their AD account, on-site or off-site.

Is there a best practice for this?

(Note: I have full acces to our web server, database, admin on Drupal site)

Hi,

I'm currently working on a Drupal 7 website and would like to figure out how to view and update a value for a specific field in a database table.  I'm looking for a module or some type of customize code that can do this.  The table will be manage by a
Admin with limited technical skills, so the procedures needs to be easy. So I was thinking of something like a custom module or Drupal page that will allow the Admin to simply search the table with filters. After the query display the result, the Admin will then have the option to change the field values to a single or multiple records (bulk update).

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I have an app which I am using as a CMS for the iPhone and iPad. I have EVERYTHING done that way I want it in Drupal. It looks good when I view it web based.

Now, here is the thing... I would like to connect this to phonegap which I can bring into xcode. All of the tutorials I am seeing are confusing me and I am getting some things to work, but for example, the look and feel is completely changed. It's like they applied their own style to it and the responsive design is gone.

Does anyone know of a good place that teaches me how to do this without making it extremely confusing? I know it can't be that difficult.

Thank you.

Dear experts,

I´ve noticed that every time I enable Commons Trusted Contacts and private message I get this error which by the way crashes my whole site, so I have to restore my database_

EntityFieldQueryException: Unknown field: field_my_request in EntityFieldQuery->addFieldCondition() (line 765 of /Users/Me/Documents/CommonsSite/includes/entity.inc).

Any idea how could I get rid of that error?

Thanks,

Dear experts,

I was wondering, I created a content type with like five field collections. I was wondering, how difficult is to add an slider or a page to go trough each field inside the field collection?

I am trying to use jquery, but it seems I need to create a module and add it there... could you please give me couple guidelines?

thanks,

I have a working Drupal 7 site and need to make it commercial with Commerce.
The client only offers 2 products; online or phone help with auto repairs. No shipping.
Is Drupal Commerce the way to go?
Is Kickstart the way to set it up?
Instructions say backup the site and then delete EVERYTHING prior to Kickstart install.
Then what? Reinstall the site files from backup?

Any advice or help is much appreciated.

Dear experts,

I´ve been spending long time finding a way to display a view field only for anonymous users.

In this case I have the following fields:

Name
Address
Hobbies
Messages (this is a privatemsg field)

Authenticated users can see all the fields, but anonymous users can´t see the Messages field because only registered users have permissions to send private messages to one another.

I was wondering, is there a way to show Messages as a disable link field if you are an anonymous user but when you log in it gets enabled?

Any help would be greatly appreciate it.

Dear experts,

I would like to create a content type field inside users profile page that drops down a country list (like a hundred countries), then depends on which country is selected then only display cities in the second drop down list.

Could you please help me to see what would be the best way to do this?

Thanks in advance,

Dear experts,

I was wondering, is there a way to nest fields inside a view?
For example, I have the following fields inside views:

Fields:
Field 1
Field 2
Field 3
Field 4

So my question is, is it possible to nest Field 2 inside Field 1? like:

Field 1
      Field 2
field 3
Field 4

I would like Field 2 to be inside the div that corresponds to Field 1.

Thanks in advance,

I have a Drupal disaster. Not sure what happened.
Problem started when the slider simply stopped working. No images or even image field.
I purchased a new theme and was trying to install it.
Now, I don't even see the command line (Structure, Modules, etc.) when logged in.

Any idea what I did wrong or how to get back to work on the project?
Any help is much appreciated.

What's the best practice approach and / easiest to put up a temporary page at http://www.mysite.com/ announcing the site will be offline?

I certainly don't want people to access any of the pages directly (bookmarks for example).

Requirements:

On a public Drupal site, have one secure Board Member portal page with a list of PDFs.

To access the page, you need to be a Member, and login with a generic username/password issued by the Drupal Admin.

From the Board Member's view:

They go to www.companysite.com/login, and once logged in, they're redirected to the Board Member Portal.

What's the best approach to achieve this?

Hi we set our Drupal site to be under maintenance  but all urls come up with "Service unavailable".
I have gone into PHPMyadmin and changed the setting in table variable
site_offline
s:1:"0";

I have cleared all records in cache.

Still have the same issue

Any ideas please?
Thanks in advance

Dear experts,

I´ve been struggling learning the form api to add content to the login form.
I am trying to add markup after the login button, but it keeps appearing above it.

Here is the markup I have so far:

      function adaptivetheme_subtheme_form_alter(&$form, $form_state, $form_id) {
        if($form_id == 'user_login') {
          //Add the required field(s).
            //
            $form['name']['#prefix'] =
            '<div id ="welcome">Welcome!</div>';

            $form['submit']['#suffix'] =
            '<div id ="bpf_footer">This is suppose to go below the login button.</div>
            <div id="footer">
            <p>&copy;  All Rights Reserved.</p>
            <div class="legal-class">
                        <a href="terms">Terms of use</a>
                  </div>
            </div>';
         }
      }

Attached goes an screenshot of the login form. Could you please give me any insight?

Thank you very much,

Dear experts,

I am trying to add some text to the ajax login register form I installed on my site. I´ve been reading that I have to create my own custom module and use the  hook_form_FORM_id_alter() function, but honestly I don´t know how to implement it to the ajax login register block...

Could you please guide to to the best approach?
