We're considering deploying a Lightsail instance for a client

We need:
Windows Server 2016 Standard - 6 CAL's
SQL Server 2017 - 6 CAL's
32GB RAM
400GB SSD

So far I've been unable to contact AWS to obtain pricing. I completed a Sales enquiry form a few days ago and have not received a response

Questions:
1. How to contact AWS to obtain pricing?
2. Assuming I have to wait for AWS to respond, does anyone who use Lightsail have an idea what the pricing is likely to be (we're based in Aust).
3. If we decided to try and deploy via EC2 instead, how would we "size" / convert the above spec into an equivalent EC2 config?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

I have a test environment in AWS, which consists of 5 EC2 units. Each EC2 is in separate autoscaling group with min 1 and max 4.
What I want to do is terminate all 5 servers every day at 10 pm and recreate them at 8 am.  This can't achieve by stopping an EC2 because autoscaling spins out a new instance straightaway.

I found this article, which says about setting the desired capacity.
https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/latest/reference/autoscaling/set-desired-capacity.html

My question is  - is it possible to write a lambda function, which will amend autoscaling to 0 ? If so, can I have an example please ?

Hey All, Need some advise:

What’s the correct way of licensing Visual Studio and other licensed development tools when running on an EC2 instance and cloning them for any new instances? Right now, there are 5 developers with a Visual Studio 2017 licence and they login to their respective Ec2 instance where each developer has a Visual studio license. Now the scenario is:

If new VM’s need to be created, current process is basically creating an Instance from a Base AMI which has got all of these development tools installed with a generic license and then manually entering new license info.

Is there a way that any new VM created can de-associate previous license and enter new license or does it have to be done manually. terraform is being used to spin up these instances.

I have a wordpress website on AWS EC2 Ubuntu Linux. I am not good in this department of coding but I get by. I just used created a Load Balancer and attached it to my EC2 instance. I am trying to force SSL (HTTPS) on anyone who visits my site. I have 90% of it correct.  if you visit:

https://www.Example.com
www.Example.com
http://www.Example.com (Redirects to https://www.Example.com)

it works perfectly with Secure. But if you go to
Example.com
http://Example.com

then it goes to a UNSECURE site. and stays on Example.com

In my ".htaccess" file at the very top I have the code below.  So what is the problem? I thank you for the help.

#Force www:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^Example.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.Example.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

# Begin force ssl
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
# RewriteEngine On
 RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 443
 RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://Example.com/$1 [R,L]
</IfModule>

Hello,

I am having an issue with my Amazon EC2 Instance. I want the information panel that appears on the top right of the instance when you access it (as displayed in the image below) to be modified. Is there a way to add lines of information from sources like one of the instance tags?

If someone has a solution to this that would be excellent. Thank you for taking the time to read this :).

On our web we are using Telerik RadGrids from WAY back... version is several years old.

In production and on the web itself the Grids appear correctly and function correctly.  No issues.
However...

When on the server (Amazon EC2 instance - MIcrosoft Windows Server 2012 R2)

And running web in debug mode

The grids all appear with no columns organized... its like the data is just dumped in the grid.

Please see the image below.

Hello,

I currently have a few EC2 instances and a bunch of S3 buckets. I need to figure out how to download all of the logs on one of my S3 buckets and then search the logs to see what IP and access occured. is there a built in method on amazon aws to do this or what is the best easiest way to get information out of the log files?

I need to be able to search probably a couple thousand logs spanning 2016 through 2017 time period for any IP and a particular file that was accessed.

thanks,

Romtechs

I have successfully used this PHP error handler on a remote shared Linux server developing with PHP & MySQL. Since moving development to AWS EC2 EBS RDS with VPC and CloudFront on Linux, whenever an error occurs no error message shows; the script simply fails. In one case a blank page showed, and in another case the POST submit was negated.
Any ideas on how to make the errors show?
function my_error_handler ($e_number, $e_message, $e_file, $e_line, $e_vars)
{
	// Build the error message.
	$err_message = "<p>Error '$e_number' \n<br> occurred in script '$e_file' on line $e_line:\n<br> $e_message\n<br> with '$e_vars'\n<br>";

	// Add the date and time:
	$err_message .= "Date/Time: " . date('j-n-Y H:i:s') . "\n<br>";

	if (!LIVE)
        {
		echo '<div class="error">' . $err_message . '</div><br>';
        }
        else
        {
                // Don't show the error

		// Send an email to the admin:
		mail(EMAIL, 'nm error from error handler in nm-config.inc.php', $err_message, 'From: '.EMAIL);

		// Only print an error message if the error isn't a notice:
		if ($e_number != E_NOTICE)
                {
			echo '<div class="error">A system error occurred. We are working like crazy to fix this ;) We apologize for the inconvenience.</div><br>';
		}
	}
}

set_error_handler ('my_error_handler');
