Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

I am taking the back up of email boxes (.pst ) file format , when I see it on outlook it shows for example 20-30 GB data in the mailboxes but when i download it as (.pst ) file. The size of .pst file is about 6-7-8 GB. Is the .pst file in compressed the mail box data, And  Is that file will  reflect all the data (mails) into the outook when i import it on other domain name .

Can an email be spoofed, and a phishing email sent through one of our email servers?  I ran a message tracking log and found the following.  The internal ip is the address of our DMZ server.

Routing Expand                       -  (No OriginalClientIP)

Hi Experts

We are using Exchange 2013 and management wants to know what is the typical message size being sent by users.
They need to know statistics of message for the past 1 month.

I tried running this https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/exchange/Exchange-2007-2013-email-b66c5543 only for 2 days but it is still stuck in powershell since yesterday.
I got 2 mailbox databases and the size of each is around 600GB, total about 1TB.

Is above link correct to get statistics of the messages daily sent/received? How longs it takes usually for what size of database?

If above is not what I supposed to run, what is the quickest way to get daily messages sent/received for the past 1 week?

My objective is just to get all individual messages size being/sent/received (internal/external).
Any powershell comand that can generate all individual message size for X days ?

Hi, I am using Exchange 2013.
I would like to configure log rotation (eg. 2 years) for smtp transaction (send, receive) and also for end user authentication (almost all users use Microsoft Outlook, sometimes with OWA).

Two questions:

1)
I founded "mail flow" and  "smtp receive" and "smtp send".
I see so many "smtp receive" connectors.. which one should I use?
Is unclear what "registration" means: if off, means "log nothing" or "log without debug info"?


2)
where is configuration menu for log retention?

Hi

I understand that there is  HealthMailbox in Exchange 2013.

Based on the message logs, there are a lot of email coming from contoso.com. I don't know why domain shows as consoso.com.

Would there be any issue if we delete HealthMailbox ?
What would be the impact on mailbox of the user if we delete?

We are using smarter mail to host for our clients. Due to the client requirement need to be using the same mailbox for daily operation.
We are configured POP3 email messages on multiple computers for them and leave the message on server about 90 days.
Recently reported from our client same of the PC can not receive email and I went the Webmail and check all the email has gone.
After trouble shooting, we found that one of the PC has uncheck leave the message from server. We can restore this message on the problem maker PC, but our management is question is that possible to restrict user to do the configuration in their own device
I believe that is not the new issue in this world ,so I would like to seek for expert advice how to overcome this human error issue.

Dear Wizards, we intent to setup the second Exchange mail server 2016, to form a HA diagram. Then configure the public IP addresses from different ISPs to these 2 Mail servers; so that when 1 ISP fails, we got the other ISP to backup mail service.

Example:  MX1 and MX2 to form HA DAG to synchronize emails.
MX1 has public IP from ISP1
MX2 has public IP from ISP2

dafault MX record of domain company.com is IP of ISP1; when ISP1 fails, we will map MX record to IP of ISP2


Is this possible? can you suggest pros and cons? Many thanks!

Our internal users have FirstName LastName show up in Outlook Global Address Book whereas our external contacts show up as Lastname, FirstName. Is it possible just to have the internal users (without changing the disaplay name in AD) show up as Lastname, FirstName too?

We would need to have the recipients view incoming emails from our users as FirstName LastName.

I'm trying to use sendmail to send a message with a custom "from" e-mail address.

The body of the message is a file, pasted below.
What I'm seeing is that when I specify a "From:" address, the e-mail doesn't get sent at all. When I specify a "Reply-To" the reply-to address is ignored, and when I send using both a "From" and a "Reply-To", the message doesn't get sent.
The SMTP file used in the e-mail is pasted below. Again, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have a client who use exchange 2010 on an SBS2011 box.  they cant receive any external emails, internally its fine, and they can send externally.  they use Trend Worry Free Business for spam filtering which sits on the SBS server.  i have disabled Trend this and still the same result.  when i perform a message trace, it shows no external emails even hitting the server.

i have attached a bounce back for you to see.

any help will be appreciated.

On the AFL tab, for the notify column, Is it possible to have it automatically send an email via MS Outlook? The email will be on the staff tab and each staff will have their own email. I was going to make a mock email for each staff but the column seems to be locked somehow. So once all the information in the row is filled out (besides the confirmation column). a button will appear in the Notify column for that row. When you click it, it will send a generic email That will say:

(Column G cell),

Can you work a(n) (Column D cell) on (Column B cell) at (Column C cell)? This will bring your hours up to (Column I cell) before adjustments.

Gotta start 2019 with less stress.

I've been with Hostgator for years and never satisfied, but inertia kept me there.  A couple things recently came up and I gotta get out of there.

I pay $30 a month for their reseller package.  I have about a dozen clients static websites in there. I have the hang of how things work - cpanel and whm. i can move around to different client's cpanels when I log in as me / account owner.

Some have office 365 but some have pop / imap email with hostgator. I think that's the part that kept me from moving sooner - dealing with moving the mail somewhere else and not have them get all the old mail in their pop account, mail getting lost, etc.

1) Any recommendations for hosting companies these days?  Is what I have - reseller with cpanel and whm - common or uncommon?
2) Is moving mail a big deal? Do companies do that for you as part of the move?  Is it pretty seamless?

Hi,
Emails are not coming in to a specific mailbox.
I have a generic user called accounting and I see no new email in it after november 16th.
I have Exchange 2016 and not used to it. also all my email are first sent to ProofPoint then to my Exchange.
The logs on proofpoint tells me that they were delivered.
I don't know where to lock for them in Exchange 2016.
I tried going in MAIL FLOW - MESSAGE TRACE and then In the box " mailbox to search " entered  "accounting" and in the 2nd box "seach message send to " I reentered "accounting"... no result

the action cannot be completed. The name cannot be matched to a name in the address list
Exchange 2013- using outlook 2016.

I have two users that suddenly stopped working and cannot connect to exchange. I can use outlook 2010 and connect to it using their credentials.
They can log into the OWA and phones just fine.
I have looked at a lot of solutions on here but none have worked.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

MS Outlook 2007 SP3 having intermittent problem sending e-mail.  1&1 is the host, and the e-mail is the generic info@ catchall for the business.  3 computers are configured for that e-mail (2 Windows 7, 1 Windows 10).  The Windows 10 replaced an a third Windows 7 which had the exact same problem for the last several months.  The Windows 10 is new and has the same problem.  The other old Windows 7 computers have never had the problem.  All computers are running Outlook 2007 SP3.  Currently they all have the same settings for SMTP.  1&1 gave me a different SMTP server to try, but no difference.  Outlook is using a PST file, which I imported calendar and contacts from the computer that had the problem (W7).  The fix is to close Outlook, and run CCleaner, and then reopen Outlook and it works every time.  This was the same on the W7 problem PC.

In a Nation Builder nation, I have a 700-member e-mail recipient list. The majority of these recipients were imported when my nation was set up a couple of months ago. Email to these recipients is solicited because they all pay a monthly/annual fee for membership.

I've sent about a dozen email blast in this time without problem, and I get stats on how many people opened links inside the emails, how many bounces, how many are ad addresses. However a couple of weeks ago, I sent one out and it first reported everything to be OK, with zero bounced, but after about 4 days, the bounced shot up to 117. This was highly irregular because the highest number of bounces before this was about 8. I had a look at the 117 and they are all Yahoo, AOL or Sky addresses, and since AOL and Sky go through Yahoo, we can assume that this is specifically a Yahoo problem. Here's the message that appears in Nation Builder next to each bounce...

4.0.0 Email was deferred due to the following reason(s): [IPs were throttled by recipient server]

I've done two more blasts since this, and the same thing happens. I've checked with a few owners of these email addresses and can confirm that the emails are not being received.

Is there anything I can do to help this situation, either on Nation Builder, on Google G-Suite, or on Yahoo? I've contacted Nation Builder support, but all they suggested was that I send a handful of emails at a time in order to rewarm Yahoo. But this could take a long time, …

Hi,

I have set up a new BigCommerce store, which is live and operating fine. However, I am having trouble setting up the third party email on the clients domain name and email hosting.

Mail can be sent from the domains webmail but can't be received. I am getting this message when sending to:

all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts

Any help would be appreciated.

Recently upgraded Exchange from 2013 to 2016. Everything looks good and have been running for over a month without issues. Currently 2013 is in co-existence as its also the file-server role and although I've dismounted the EDB from old 2013 server, I havent uninstalled Exchange from it.

I wanted to do some delivery reports under Mailflow, and got this error - Value specified for a parameter of type Microsoft.Exchange.Diagnostics.MessageTrackingEvent is invalid: SENDEXTERNAL.

Any ideas?
