Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

Hi,

Another department within my company has configured a Linux Server in a DMZ location. They currently have a bespoke application which is hosted using apache.

They have reported that they are unable to send any email messages to an Exchange 2010 server  when entering any email addresses and clicking send on the frontend of the application. The IP Address of the Linux server has been added to the SMTP open relay on the Exchange 2010 server. From the Linux server I'm able to telnet to the Exchange server using IP Address and port 25. I've also able to send a number of test email messages using Postfix.

I don't know how this bespoke application is constructed or what language it's written in. All I know is that the application has the "Alias" SMTPMAIL" hardcoded into the code. The SMTPMAIL DNS record is an A or CNAME for our Exchange 2010 Server. The Linux server also has the details "IP Address SMTPMAIL SMTPMAIL.internal" entered into the /etc/hosts file. Postfix was configured to use the IP Address of the Exchange 2010 as a relay server https://www.rootusers.com/configure-postfix-to-forward-mail-to-a-central-relay-server/

Am I missing anything else this is working on the UAT Linux Server in the DMZ. This server has the same configuration other than it uses sendmail. We switched to postfix after we are getting unable to resolve dns error messages when trying to send test email messages using sendmail. What am I missing we have checked the logs on the Linux …

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

I know that I have a certificate issue, but do not understand fully how to resolve it. The error message I as follows;

Microsoft Exchange could not find a certificate that contains the domain name jjmservice.net in the personal store on the local computer. Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector JJMSERVICE.NET send with a FQDN parameter of jjmservice.net. If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certificate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key.

Can someone please help. Please let me know if there is any further information you may need.

Thanks,

I am looking for some clarification on the proper configuration of my DNS amd my email server.

Here is the setup:
I am using Comcast as my ISP and have an Exchange server running in my SBS2008. I have a static IP address assigned by Comcast and have registered a domain name pointing to it ( [b]abc.net[/b)]. I also have a company domain name that is abc.com. This domain points to an outside web and email server. I am using the Windows POP3 Connector to retrieve emails from the abc.com server and putting them into the Exchange mailboxes. (I know, nobody likes the POP3 Connector...) Then I am using the in house Exchange server to send emails directly from the domain <b>name@abc.com</a>

The problem:
Lately, I have been getting the error from Gmail accounts that I try to send to saying that the Reverse DNS for IPv6 is not properly configured, and that I must fix this before Gmail will accept emails from abc.com.

The question:
This is where it becomes a bit confusing for me. What is the proper way to set up the DNS configuration, and where. Currently, I have asked Comcast to set up the Reverse DNS for abc.net back to my IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, but Gmail is still blocking me. Should I also, or in place of, asked them to set the Reverse DNS for abc.com to my server, instead? Or is this something I should be doing on my SBS2008 DNS?

Dear EE

Please can someone tell me what's the difference between the "From" and "X-Sender" field in message header?

We recently had a spoof and phising attempt on one of your users.

I have SPF in place and it works but it didnt stop this email because the X-Sender address is not that of my domain. My SMTP domain is TTAF.co.za

We have a Shared mailbox and a Group that has Full Permissions set on the Mailbox, we have JUST this 1 user we add to the group and they can't access it but if I add them individually to have Full Permission to the mailbox it works fine.  Running Exchange 2010 with all patches up to this month applied.  I am trying to track down the Outlook client version if that matters.

We have recently migrated from Exchange 2007 to Office/Exchange365. Since migration we have received a number of email rejections on one specific email indicating "your email program added invalid characters (bare line feed characters) into a message you sent".

The email itself comes from an HTML template and generated in Microsoft Dynamics AX. This is directed email to customers and is consistently accepted by some downstream providers (eg gmail, Hotmail) but not others (eg Yahoo, Comcast).

The HTML code that comprises the body text has been scrutinized and does not contain any bare LF's, nor has it changed since long before the migration.

Support from Microsoft, Yahoo and Comcast has been of little use (for the most part unwilling to engage other than throw out generalities to get you off the phone).

Key facts;
- email was working prior to (Exchange 2007 to Office365) migration
- other (text) email to affected customers is delivered without issue (ie limited to one HTML email)
- originating email has been checked for bare LF's

As this email was working previously I have the following questions;
- have you seen and resolved similar issues?
- As this was working previously I am wondering if Exchange 2007 stripped out bare LF's in order to fix (my understanding is that Office 365 was but stopped doing so).

I have a 2003 server std that is a domain controller and exchange server.  There are 7 domains on this server.  I have been asked to upgrade exchange from 2007 to 2010.  Can someone guide me to a step by step process for doing this? I have never built an exchange server before, and need this to be successful.

I took an existing zimbra server which had an old domain as it's primary, made a copy of it and converted everything over to the new IP, main domain etc. There are only two domains on the server currently.

Our apps team uses Google Analytics to track one of our website for pattern of
usage/access & they requested for access to gmail to receive product tips, advice,
recommendations, training tips   in gmail.

Q1:
As gmail is a data loss/leakage risk (as users can upload data to it), can Google
Analytics be configured to send emails/tips/recommendations instead to our
corporate Exchange email account instead?

I have no idea/inkling of how Google Analytics work.

Q2:
Is there any option in gmail to set auto-forwarding ie whenever new emails
arrive in gmail account, it's auto-forwarded to our corporate email?  Any
tool to do this?

How to get exchange 2013 disabled user list with last logon , Email address.

I have tried the below script with PrimarySmtpAddress, EmailAddresses, Samaccountname but email address giving blank.

Get-ExchangeServer | Where-Object {$_.IsMailboxServer –eq $true} | ForEach-Object { Get-MailboxStatistics -Server $_.Name | Where-Object {$_.DisconnectDate –notlike ‘’}} | select displayname, database

If anyone has a script to get all these details that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

That's right, I have a client who wants to deliberately delay emails to their Gmail.

They would like their emails to be delivered every 4 hours instead of it coming down as they get them.

Any suggestions on how to do this?  Or does anyone know if there is a service that does this?

We're currently looking into doing it with Azure Queues but thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone knows of any other way.  Or if there is a way of doing this native to Gmail.

Thank you in advance.

I have an employee who is new in our company. I gave him Send As permissions to a shared mailbox and i gave hem full acces to the Shared mailbox. Full Access workes fine. Send As not. I even created a new account to solve the problem. Unfortunatly..... without result.

Othe people who have send as permission to the same shared mailbox have no problems.

Suggestions?

Kind regards,

Good day folks, and thank you to anyone that may be able to assist!

I have a rather strange situation - we have an Exchange 2016 machine which happily delivers short e-mails, yet large (10-20Mb) mails will often sit in the queue showing "active".

This behaviour seems a little random, as I have seen some messages of this size get delivered quickly, some will sit in the queue for many hours, and some will bounce back to the sender as undelivered (the sender being one of the staff within the organisation).

We talked to one recipient's IT chap, who was able to show us a log that indicated the mail began sending, opened the data channel, but didn't complete the send - in the end, their mail server gave up, and closed the transmission channel.

We have ensured that all message size limits are well beyond the size of mail we're trying to send - minimum size we have is 35Mb, and the message after encoding we are testing with now is 17Mb.

We have set up a delivery rule for a domain we can use to test with to go via another mail server on which we can see the logs, and when messages do not clear the queue in a timely fashion, we see the same behaviour as was originally reported to us - Exchange is opening the channel, beginning to send by giving the headers, then timing out in actually sending the data.

Resource monitor on the Exchange server shows a machine that is effectively near idle - 2Mb/sec network activity, under 1Mb/sec disk activity, memory (16Gb) is …
