Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

one of our clients have said that they cant receive emails.  when we investigated this we noticed a lot of the emails that bounced back were all using blacklisted IP addresses for their emails.  the strange thing is these blocked emails are gmail emails/hotmail/365 emails.

below is a bounce back which is received when you try and email the client, we have checked the clients WAN IP and domain and thats not blacklisted.  it seems to be OK sending out just receiving.

"I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.

For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can delete your own text from the attached returned message.

We have around 500 DL's in our environment and now there is an ask to share list of In-active Distribution List which can be review and cleaned up if required.
We are using Exchange 2007

Looking for suggestion and options how i can achieve it.

Hi All,

I’m in the process of migrating the mailbox from one Exchange Server 2013 Sp1 to another 2013 Sp1 (no-DAG) using the batch migration PowerShell.

I can see it from the Exchange Control Panel website, there is the batch process migration status, however, I need to mount and dismount the mailbox database in the new server due to removing the quota implementation, what’s the impact in pausing or STOPPING the batch migration which caused the migration process to become SUSPENDED ?

Can I still resume it again after mounting the mailbox Database in the destination server ?
What’s the impact to the users when the migration process is STOPPED or in the SUSPENDED state ?

I’m not going to delete the migration batch (by clicking the bin icon) since I need to get off from the old server to the new server.

Any help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

I have one client that cannot email me.. They receive a bounced back message saying;

550 Verification Failed
No such user here
Sender verification failed

I can however email them. But they cannot reply.

None of their emails from their domain raywhite.com will come through, however I have been guaranteed from my ISP (crazy domains) that there are no blocks on my end. However i do know of another company who are with crazy domains are experiencing the same problem with the Raywhite.com server  

As I run my ow  business, my only option is to change hosting companies in the hope that works.

Would love an easier fix

I am performing the Exchange 2003 to 2010 migration.  They are currently running in coexistance with some user mailboxes on 2003 and some on 2010.  I am unable to connect to active sync externally from my phone.  I ran Exchange Remote Connectivity Analyzer and get the following result:
Testing TCP port 443 on host myserver.mydomain.com to ensure it's listening and open.
       The specified port is either blocked, not listening, or not producing the expected response.
Anyone know what the problem might be.  It matched matches my external URL on Active Sync.  I have an A Record for the host name to my external Static IP.  I have the Firewall setup to allow the External IP to redirect to my internal IP

Hello All,
I need some advice, and Expert opinion.
We need to move Exchange 2013 to new hardware server.
Existing instance:
We have a hardware server (Dell PowerEdge 2950) with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and Standalone Exchange 2013 CU14 Build Number: 15.0.1236.3 Server Role: MultiRole.
The server is in a domain that is part of a forest of 30 domains, this domain is not the forest root domain but this exchange server in main for all domains in forest. Let's call it contoso.com Server name mail.contoso.com
New instance:
Hardware server (Dell PowerEdge R720) with installed Windows Server 2012 R2. Server name new-mail.contoso.com
My question is which transfer scenario will be the best and less complex?
I thought to deploy a new clean exchange installation and then move all mailboxes to a new server. But I have no experience installing two exchange servers in the same (domain) environment. How can the installation of the second server affect the whole infrastructure?
Or maybe there are more correct transfer scenarios?

I am not able to receive or send email on my imap account.  This is the error message that I get.  

Cannot Send Mail
The user name or password for "patmoell@bellsouth.net" is incorrect.

Is the user name "patmoell@bellsouth.net"?

If so, the passwords must be wrong.  What can I do to change the passwords?  I don't know the current passwords.

Incoming Mail Server

Host Name  imap.mail.att.net
User Name patmoell@bellsouth.net

Outgoing Mail Server

SMTP  smtp.mail.att.net


Other SMTP Servers

smtp.mail.yahoo.com
outbound.att.net

Since I can't receive email, can you answer this another way?  <email removed>

Does anyone know why there is multiple mailboxes migration that is stuck at 95% on the AutoSuspended process ?

Because when I do my migration from between the two Exchange Server 2013 VM within the same AD site, it is completed successfully most of the time or can be retried manually for completion.

So how to clean up the AutoSuspended mailbox migration safely without deleting the actual mailboxes itself ?

I'm running Exchange Server 2013 standard Version 15.0 (Build 1130.7)

I would like to check how can I check on my Microsoft Exchange Server? I used to use configure outlook using pop3 or imap but for exchange, I don't have the knowledge, I try using mail.companyname.com for the Microsoft Exchange Server which works for pop3 and imap but couldn't work for Microsoft Exchange in Outlook 2010. The reason I wanted to use Microsoft Exchange is that it can sync calendar and contact with device like Android and iPhone. Sorry for my noob question, appreciate if any expert can advise me on.

The issue was that 2 new Multi-Function devices were setup with smtp server settings but could not successfully send to email (sending to an internal recipient)
THe MFD would display a communication error, contact your network administrator.

This is an Exchange 2010 environment, on the CAS server i enabled verbose logging on both receive connectors.
I had them test send email, got the communication error, then searched the log files.
I filtered on IP of the devices; but nothing was found at all.
I then filtered by the recipient email address and tons of stuff were found, but nothing pertaining to the 2 MFD's.

The issue was resolved by inputting a "Sender Address" on the MFD's.
For some reason the tech didn't input anything in that field when setting them up.

But i think i should have been able to discover that in the logs?
I would have expected to find something maybe about connection dropped due to invalid header or something?

We have an Exchange 2013 server which has 2 IP addresses, currently it is sending outbound SMTP out the wrong address which is causing the wrong external IP to be assigned to it and tripping up SPF records etc.

Hi  I have several issues with my outlook, I am on a windows 7 64 bit MO with outlook 2010, over the past 4 years the following is happening;

1 emails are coming into my inbox and randomly being flagged for follow up and either left in my follow-up section on inbox or being moved to a random folder this is without them being read
2  emails are coming into my inbox and the being marked as completed without me reading them
3 previously flagged items are randomly returning into folders or my follow up folder
4 email account sends out random meeting requests this could be last year, yesterday or from 4 years ago!
5 some emails are not being received and yet the person at the other end of the email has a copy with date and time, the exchange states the email was received but it's not in my inbox
6 emails that I sent are not found in my sent items or even mailbox, yet the person at the other end has a copy of my email I sent to them

So far I started with an Excel document issue and from then til now 4 years I have had horrendous issues.  

IT have given me 4 new laptops, they are great and no issues until about 4-6 months down the line when they are clearly visible and I am convinced I'm not crazy or losing the plot.  I had no phone synced to my email account when the issues started happening, repaired email accounts, created new email accounts, the only thing that works for a short period of time is a new laptop install, also I seem to be the one who uses the flagged …

I am in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and then onto 2013/2016. On my old Exchange server I had a Certificate Authority and would like to know if that is useful since I already have a Third Party trusted certificate installed on the new server. Will the Certificate Authority help issue out the trusted certificate to all the devices that connect to it via the internet or if that service only used to issue out self signed certificates?

Hello,

I have a client that attempted to clean out emails on her MAC for several hours. NOw, as soon as the MAC Synced with our Exchange server all the mail came back that she deleted. What would cause this to happen? How can I prevent for the mail to come back once she syncs to our Exchange. It seems like while she is deleting the mail isn't being updated properly to Exchange.

I have Exchange 2013 and client has standard MAC mail app settings.

I have migrated all users from Exchange 2007 to 2013, now need to remove 2007 (it is on SBS 2008). I know all public folders need to be removed or moved to delete Exchange 2007, but really do not know if the system public folders need to be migrated to 2013 or can just be deleted? I have included a picture of the System Public Folders I see. Just wondering if anyone can clue me in as to what they are and if safe to delete or need to be moved. I will still have the SBS 2008 running until I create another DC.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

We are utilizing Exchange 2016 CU5 (on premise server) and noticed an issue in Outlook Web App (OWA).  When we add shared mailboxes with Full Access, the mailboxes will propagate properly (via Automapping) in Outlook 2016.  However, when the user logs into OWA, we see that the shared mailbox does not properly populate in OWA.  In fact, it seems like OWA is showing the same shared mailboxes before our 2013 migration.  

We tried playing around and removed access for one of the shared mailboxes that were listed there.  It properly removed them in Outlook 2016 but did not remove them in OWA.  This seems to be an organization wide issue as we are able to replicate this issue under all the mailboxes we've touched so far.  We are pretty stumped as there doesn't seem to be a similar case online.  

Attempted Steps to Rectify the Issue:

* We tried recreating the OWA virtual directory with no effect.  

* We tried removing the users from the shared mailbox and readding them as Full Access users under Mailbox Delegation.

* We also checked the msExchDelegateListLink attribute for the shared mailboxes to ensure the users are listed there.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated!  Thanks.

Google has started verifying that the address in email headers came from the domain listed.     It looks like they do this by doing a query on the PTR record of the local ISP.    Our ISP (Cox Cable) confirmed they are the problem but do not seem to be able to do anything about it.    Meanwhile my emails to folks with gmail addresses get rejected.

The only solution I can see so far is to disable IpV6 in the registry
REG.exe query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters /v DisabledComponents

Any thought or solutions short of taking my ISP to court.    BTW we signed 3 year agreement about a month before Google started rejecting our email.

Hi,
I have a frustrating issue and wonder if anyone has some tip or solution for me. Its simple, I have a script that uses wp_mail function. All works fine and no errors in the log, however the mail comes without attachment.

Therefore I have made a little script to test this. And yes it does not send it out. The script is below and it works in terms of sending a email. But without attachment. Does anyone have some tip for me why this could be.

I also tried:

$attachments[] = 'http://www.domain.com/wp-content/uploads/test.pdf';

Instead of the path. But does not work either. in both cases it sends the mail but without the attachment.

Next I tried with an array:

array_push($attachments, WP_CONTENT_DIR . '/uploads/master.zip' );

Same, email comes but no attachment.

In my case I only have one attachment that is suppose to be attached to this email.
Any assistance on this would be very appreciated because I am getting gray hair in this ;-)

We are using a Web application that wants us to add their email server's IP address to our SPF record to allow our staff to use our own email addresses in the "From" field of email sent from the Web application. I have my concerns but wanted to get other Admin's input on how bad this is or if it is not a big deal since we are working with this Web application anyway.

Also include the impact on spf, dkim, and dmarc use.

I setup a new exchange server and can send emails outbound. but I need to setup external DNS. can someone help me with the configuration. I am using Godaddy for our external DSN

I know I need to set the MX but should I set it to the external IP and do I need to set any other records.

And after talking to godaddy I cannot setup the MX record as just the IP. So i'm a little lost at how to setup the MX record.
