A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

We have a virtual SMTP server on premises that is connected to Exchange 365.  We are finding that a portion (not all) of the emails in the Queue folder do not get deleted after successfully being sent. This is not a gigantic problem except that recently we had to reboot that system and it sent a bucket load of old and already delivered emails out to recipients when it came back up. Has anyone ever seen this before and do you have any ideas how to fix this? In the past I have certainly seen situations where items get stuck in the Queue because they are not being sent but never when they have already been successfully sent out.

Any thoughts?

The user has a gmail account that they are connecting to on a MacBook Pro 13 with High Sierra OS.
They are using the Apple Mail App

They have noticed delays when sending email and reading attachments.

I have noticed  issues with their gmail setup:

Do they have too many messages in their inbox? They have more than 18,000 messages in the Inbox.  I can have them fix this by creating folders, moving mail, and using the excellent MailHub Mail plugin to rapidly delete and file mail.

They have created a lot of sub-folders to their gmail inbox.  Are these folders slowing down the Apple Mail? Do I need to relocate them?

I also noticed, that when I moved old email to a separate folder, there was a lot of download activity.  What is the cause of that?  I only moved a few hundred, but it looks like several thousand are being categorized as 'downloading'

  I have  client who is having an Exchange 2016 server. The users are able to send and receive emails within his domain and send to other domains but cannot receive emails from other domains.  I have checked on mxtoolbox it show smtp connect error post which I did multiple tcptrace to the email server on ports 25, 587 and 443 all of which were through.

 Need support to figure out the exact cause.

Are there any know issues, bugs - and/or fatal errors during or after the installation of CU 8 that I have to be aware off ?

We have multiple Send Connectors with an Address Space of "*" and all of these connectors have the same cost.  

What is different is that these connectors have different Source Servers defined.

Each of these connectors is intended for a specific site.  As an example, one connector contains the source servers for site A, the next connector contains source servers for site B, and the next connector for site C, etc.  

Even though the connectors have the same address space and cost, Exchange is somehow able to use the correct connector that contains the local source servers where the message is being sent from.  My question is...how is this being done when the send connectors have the same address space and cost?

i am trying to limit who can send email to a distribution groups but if you expand the group ( in outlool click on the + sign next to the group) all members are listed in the To: line and email can be sent regardless of the delivery management restriction on the group
I have exchange 2010 and g suite. We want to integrate both. What my organization requires is all emails to come to our exchange server and after that it should go to g suite. What is the best practice to get this done. All emails to be synced(incoming & outgoing).

we want to make our domain primary on our exchange server.

i have taken the following steps advised by gsuite support
1. You need to disable to default routing that you added for G Suite, if you need instructions on how to find the option, you can refer to this support article https://support.google.com/a/answer/2368153?hl=en.
2. You need to have the MX records pointing to your legacy server.
3. You need to create a routing rule for your exchange server to forward emails to the test aliases of G Suite that you can find in the aliases of each user.
4. You need to add the IP addresses of the exchange server to the inbound gateway. You can find more information about it in this support article https://support.google.com/a/answer/60730.

For number 3 routing rule what can i do to accomplish this task

number 1 has been done
number 2 is in progress by our ISP
number 3 is what i need help on
number 4 has been done on gsuite admin domain

We use Exchange 2010 and have VIPRE Spam app that is supposed to move spam to a new folder designated 'SPAM'. It is identifying it as spam but not creating the SPAM folder or moving messages to said spam folder. Support with the company says its because Autodiscover is not working properly.

Their initial response is to fix any errors under test-outlookWebServices before they can offer further assistance. I have 0 issues with OWA and have 0 issues with mobile devices. 0 issues with Desktop Outlook clients yet they tell me that I must correct the error listed in the detail before they can assist. So I am looking to resolve the error, that isn't causing any problems, without creating new ones.

The error is   The certificate for the URL https://SERVER.DOMAIN.local/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml is incorrect
 . For SSL to work, the certificate needs to have a subject of SERVER.DOMAIN.local, instead the subject found is DOMAIN.com. Consider correcting service discovery, or installing a correct SSL certificate.

Obviously I cant get an alt for .local so I am trying to identify in my configuration where the system is referencing the .local domain.

Dear Experts, can we redirect a mail domain to mail domain?

For example: we are using domain ABC.com for Mail Exchange server, now we want to change to the new one: XYZ.com. How can we process like this:
- Send email via XYZ.com
- Receive emails via ABC.com, then all emails will be redirected to  correspondent users in XYZ.com
Looking for a simple way to setup a resource calendar where only a certain group of users require approval, but the rest do not. I  don't want to split the company into 2 seperate groups, I know that would solve it, but then I would have to continuously update  the group that represents 'everyone else'

We have created distribution groups for users to send email from. Setup the permissions, update the address books, download the addressbooks, restarts outlook and the user can send email as though it is coming from the group. Works internal and external.

Then some amount of hours/days later we get a NDR saying you do not have permission to send as the user.

This is How we are creating the group and adding the permissions.

Am I missing something?
we have a zimbra 8.5.1 hosted in RHEL6.5(32GB RAM) and now trying to upgrade to Zimbra 8.7 in RHEL7.5(32GB RAM)
All users are POP3 users and have a total mailbox size of around 200GB.
We tried to use imapsync to copy mailboxes from old server to new server but taking long time with only 152KB transfer speed.

Is there any parameters to change for increased transfer speed or any other techniques to copy the same is recommended.

Our project is delayed just because of this transfer speed and before migration we need to have another sync to update the mailboxes.
Using Outlook 2013 with Office365. Large groups of email are missing. In the inbox sorted by date descending there a re big gaps of mail missing. Last month had quite a bit missing, more missing from the month before, then large gaps of many months with no email at all, then some from a year ago, then some from a couple years ago. Did the restore deleted items from the inbox and that restored a lot (mostly recent from the last couple of months)

Also receive this same O365 account to an Iphone and an Ipad.

I suspect it might be IOS device since I had a similar problem a while ago but in that case you could watch the email go away.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been naded an unusual issue, at least in my experience.

We have extremely important emails being sent from the UK via an MPLS setup, and they are using Private DNS entries. Our SPam and Email servers require rDNS or the emails are blocked. We whitelisted and IP address for them yesterday but that did not seem to help.

This has been escalated to top priority as these emails are for our CEO and COO. What can I do from my end to ensure that the emails can be received and delievered?

I have about four hours to correct this as the senders are on UK time and I am on EST time, so if anyne can help me I would be most gratefull.

This either never came up before for us or a long time ago.
User A is on vacation but getting mail on their phone
User  B wants to send as that user to a customer

we don't know user a's password. I could change that in the SBS 2011 and user b logs in and sends as them in OWA or similar. But that would break his email on his phone and require talking to him on vacation. Don't want to do that and that is low tech way.

Some googling, I go into EMC, server, recipient, mailbox and added user B using action on the right side 'manage send as permission' to user A - or do I have that backwards?

User B closed & opened outlook.  Clicked on from button, typed user A name and tried to send to her personal email as test.  it failed - you don't have permission.

Repeated steps adding user A to user B's 'manage send as permission'. Repeat and still failed.

Tried "manage full access permission" on user A's account and still failed.

Does it take time to update in exchange?

Am I doing something wrong?

Then once they send as user A, how does user B see user A's mailbox for the reply?

I have a problem on my mDaemon mail server
I have 1 user that is receiving hundreds of mail delivery error as if he is trying to send emails to someone but failed...
The emails are to a weird email 24484763@att.txt

Looking at mDaemon logs I see that it is as if the user is really sending those emails while he is not.

Those ar the actions I took
I formatted his pc and reinstalled outlook
On mDaemon I changed the password of that user and created a complex password (10 char complex).
It worked for few hours then it is coming again...!!

My ISP is threatening to block me as he is saying thousands of emails are being sent as spams...

How to resolve this issue? What shall I do ?
BTW relay is not activated on my mDaemon server.

i am using outlook as my email client program (outlook 2013) and i configured incoming email as pop3 to store every email data in single .Pst file and i create rules and folder for my need and it work as normally, but when i need to re-config my email sing my old .Pst file it successfully and the folder appear in order as old, but it say "Error cannot move item to folder..." . What is the root of this error? why? and how to fix that?

I have to transfer several mailboxes from hmailserver (connected via IMAP) to an Exchange 2016. The biggest of these mailboxes has about 40 GB mails.

All methods use so far either create errors or incomplete mailboxes:
  • Transfer via MailStore Server (Import via IMAP, Export to Exchange or PST or Outlook
  • Thunderbird connected via IMAP to both mailservers and manually copy/paste mail folders
  • Outlook dito

Additional problem ist that none of the methodes used gives a report of mails transferred per folder. Thus I have to manualle check source mailbox and target mailbox.

Can you give me an idea of the most realiable methode (optimally reporting the mails transferred per folder)?

How Can I check this ? I have a network of 50 Computers. I also have a firewall (Cyberoam).

We are running ms exchange 2013. we have only 15 email users. All email users are sending and receiving emails perfectly. Only two of my users (John@example.com and Shirley@example.com) are having issues. 6 days ago they stopped receiving incoming emails both internally and externally but they are able to send emails out perfectly.

Just a day a go i found out that both John and Shirley's emails have been going to another users (administrator@example.com) inbox. Now wonder they themselves haven't been receiving incoming emails.

I checked both users outlook client accounts but there wasn't any rules applied that could have done forwarding. Also i checked through the Outlook Web App (OWA) and same, no emails have been coming through their mail box.

Im not really good at ms exchange. Could there be some forwarding or filtering done through exchange or else where to cause the user mailboxes to forward to another user mailbox?
