Email Servers

Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

Hell experts, Last year I switched to WIX.com for my website hosting, all went well but the email setup was not what I was used to. The previous hosting services I'd used allowed 20 or so free forwarding emails, i.e. set up an address fred@mydomain.com and all email could be diverted from that to Fred's existing pop3 account with AOL, BT or whoever. Wix insists on using Gsuite to manage emails, so I bought an email package  and with some fiddling about, managed to get some free forwarding addresses working using email routing. Several months ago, this stopped working, Gsuite seem to have changed their configuration setup and I can't get it going again. My main email works fine and the catchall function works fine but I can't get it to forward particular emails to particular people. I've tried WIX help to no avail. Is anyone out there an expert with Gsuite?

Best provider for an Exchange Server 2016  SMART HOST
Hi Experts,
I have  a mail server and mails to external domain mails are routed through another postfix mail server. I need to configure delay for 5-10 mins when any of the users under mydomain send mails to external domain. whereas mydomain mails should deliver without any delay. I have tried default_destination_rate_delay, but it didn't reach upto my expectations.
A malicious email has been sent out to all contacts from one of our users Outlook that contained a nefarious and potentially damaging link. we requested all staff to remove it from your inbox. We are on Office365 for exchange. This email was sent with subject line:  "Please Docusign: Review Documents"  the message contained a box that said Diane sent you a document to review and sign with Review Document button. Which takes to http:// fishy looking hyperlink.

Many users have now clicked this link already in the email today and I am not sure what outcome we will be dealing with in next couple of days.

What best possible steps to be taken in this scenario ?  So far I have done the following:

1. Isolated this machine and running various scans.
2. Ran the O365 Powershell command to remove this message from all user mailbox
3. Made sure all our backups are secure and running
4. Ran virus scans on all our servers
5. I am currently tracing the IP address from the header of this original email and blocking it through our external email spam filtering company.

What else can we possibly do to avoid wide spread of these emails in next few days ?

The user said he click on this email about "4 days ago" and all of a sudden emails came out of his outlook to all company contacts GAL TODAY. This could mean all the users about ( 30 of them ) that clicked on this email today may have their computers infected as well and could possibly send an email in next few days …
Regarding MS Exchange 2013.  I have been asked to craft a rule that would temporarily suspend mail delivery to a specific mailbox using server side rules.  Specifically, the manager wants outside email sent to an internal accounting mailbox be to be held for 3 to 5 days, if that incoming message meets certain criteria such as sender, or words in the subject line.  After the 3 to 5 days, the mail would be automatically released by Exchange for receipt in the mailbox.

Is this even possible?

Random users outlook got disconnected in our Exchange 2010 environment.

Any help will be highly appreciated !!!
We Can't sending Email to our customer , Message Blocked and below are replay from mailer -deamon @ google .com

The response from the remote server was:
550 5.7.1 <ary@primatata.com>: Sender address rejected: Service unavailable; SPF check failed and transaction closed due to the organization's policy

What should we do?? Thanks
We've recently rolled out on-prem Skype for Business 2016 and have on-prem Exchange 2010. Does anyone know of a way to prevent everyone from sending IMs to our internal distribution groups? I need the groups to still show in Outlook OAB. Alternately, is there a way to do if we upgrade to on-prem Exchange 2016?
Dear Folks,

Is there any way I can authenticate the validity of an email address using multiple IP addresses or SMTPs? I am trying with a couple of variations but every time it uses the gateway ip as the default IP. However I want to use either SMTP or bind it to another ip.

Thank You

Hi Experts,

I have stumbled upon something tricky here and hoping someone can help me get to the bottom of it....

I was asked to setup Office 365 for a new customer so they could move away from their isp email and use it like a business should with their own domain name.....

So I set forth on my first Office 365 mission purchased through a provider set it all up obtained access so I could point the required records.... so far so good... well at least I thought, that was until the client let me know some mail was not reaching them!

Two reasons we knew....some who were attempting to email them received NDR's, the other way we knew was that I had setup forwarding on the ISP email (whilst they went through the motions of a new email address after years of using the ISP one) to forward directly to the new email address in which not all of it made it to the new email address. Most mail gets through but not all of it.

Test after test and liaising with the provider of the office 365 license and then finally onto Microsoft who blamed the forwarding on the ISP end (Which is incorrect) as it didn't explain the NDR's...

Upon further investigation I have found that there is some hang up on what used to be their webhost and provider of name servers!!! please see attachment for results.

It should resolve to

icertified.net but it answers to bigcommerce who they have not used for 5 years how is this so I asked them for proof and what they sent me appears to back up…
Can anyone help me try to solve these delayed deliveries?

The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 19 hours and 59 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time.

Dear Experts, we are in workgroup environment with 200 users and planning to join domain in next week. The DC is ready, problem is local users now are using local profiles with MS Outlook data and when they join domain, a new profile comes.

As my understanding, new Outlook profiles will be created when they open MS Outlook in their new domain profiles, am I right? Is there any solution to avoid it? How can we map an Outlook profile (in local user profile) to new Outlook profile (in a new domain user profile)?
Typically, when I open an Office document via My Documents, Outlook, etc., the Office application will bring the document to the forefront. Recently, if Excel is minimized to the taskbar, it has decided to stay minimized. If it is not minimized or not running then it acts as expected bringing the document to the forefront. Not a huge deal but is frustrating when I am waiting for the spreadsheet to pop up when my query in another program completes.

We are somewhat new to Proofpoint and an issue started last week that I can't figure out how to address.  One of our users sends emails back and forth with somebody he does business with.  Starting last week, email exchanges between the two sides are getting blocked as spam.  I was able to fix inbound emails with the whitelist but I haven't been able to figure out how to address outbound emails from our side that are getting quarantined as spam.

How do you figure out why outbound emails are being blocked and then fix the issue?  Thanks in advance.
We are currently in a state of coexistence with Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2016. Just noticed that the Exchange 2016 mailbox servers are members of the CAS Arrays that were created for Exchange 2010. The Exchange 2016 servers are at least part of the CAS Arrays tied to the respective AD site but wanted to confirm this is expected behavior.
I am currently testing moving isp, i have made the required mx and reverse dns changes and everything checks out. I tried switching over and incoming mail is working fine but we are not sending. I quiclky changed back to the old isp and everything is fine. I noticed in my exchange 2010 server we are using as a send connector (on the organisational configuration/hub transport tabs) the old isp as a mail relay. I'm not familiar with this and have inherited this setup, should i simply disable the external relay to allow outgoing mail to flow?

Any help would be appreciated
I'm currently using a Gmail account for Veeam email notifications using the server addresses shown in the first screenshot and am successfully receiving Veeam email notifications.

However when I try to use the exact same Gmail email address and email server settings for Server 2016 WSUS email notifications (in the second and third screenshots) these email server address notifications don't work. I receive the error message shown in the last screenshot which says

"System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. i8sm33761833pgq.67 - gsmtp

   at Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.EmailNotificationConfiguration.SendTestEmail()
   at Microsoft.UpdateServices.UI.SnapIn.Dialogs.EmailNotificationSettingsDialog.backgroundWorker_DoWork(Object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)."

There is no where within the Server 2016 WSUS email notification settings to select to use secure connection (SSL/TLS).

So what is the correct Gmail email address server address setting to use to successfully send notification emails?

Have Exchange 2013 and a few users use OWA instead of Outlook.  All of a sudden the Calendar Notifications and Task Notifications don't work.   Normally 30 minutes before a meeting a pop up would happen and the computer would make a sound.

Now that isn't happening, nothing has changed, and it's across all users on all computers.

All the settings in OWA, options, settings, calendar are correct and say to remind and play a sound every 30 minutes.    The new mail notifications and sounds are still working correctly.
Hi Everyone

We are currently having an intermittent situation whereby our end users are sporadically being disconnected.  We believe we have pinned it down to the MSExchangeRpcProxyFrontEndAppPool reaching its Private Bytes memory limit and then doing an automatic App Pool recycle and that this is then disconnecting our users.  The Private Memory limit is set to about 1.5GB.  Once it fills it forces an app recycle, kicking everyone connected to that process off.  We see Event ID 5117 in system log followed by two events 5138, 5013.  These appear to be IIS related

Has anyone else encountered this issue, and if so how did you overcome it.  Are we ok to increase that limit or even set it to 0 (unlimited) or are there any alternatives to resolve this and avoid disconnections.

I have a DAG-enabled mailbox database that is currently hosted on two servers:

Host1 - passive copy
Host2 - active copy

Now I need to:

- remove passive copy
- change active copy from Host2 to Host1

Do I first change the activationpreference then delete the passivecopy or the other way round ?

which exchange server logs (2010) may give clues as to whether a users is using active sync to sync to his exchange mailbox?

and if the employees active directory account was disabled, which is tied to his exchange mailbox, would that end the active sync to their device, or would the exchange logs still show the device trying to sync to the mailbox (even though it would not sync as the account was disabled), or would the disablement of the AD account cease to create new active sync logs in exchange?
I get a 550 error message for one of our email address that I have created in cpanel. I know I'm typing it correctly and it's the only email address that does not work. I've tried deleting it from Cpanel and creating it again, same issue. Any ideas on how to fix this?
