Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.

A director requires emails forwarded to his PA or his PA with access to a folder (in his mailbox) with only emails from an external mail account and no other recipient is internal.

I’ve tried giving the PA access to a folder in the directors mailbox where a rule moves messages with this criteria but I cant get the rules to work fully.

The issue is getting emails sent to the director from and external account but also with another internal recipient not to be included in the mail the PA can see.

im facing an issue..one of my database was dismounted in this morning and when i mounted with -Force it shows mounting and content state says "mounting" and database copy is "initializing" .. all the outlook users are disconnected . Please help .

Hi, we have a DC of 6 Exchange mail servers for 6 different domains and planning to deploy Sonicwall 7000 email security device.

I can apply Outlook app policies on single user or we can select multiple users to apply. If we create a new user we have to add them manually again. so is there any way to automate and run it on everyone in organization.

I have a client that sporadically gets an error message when trying to send me emails to my aol account.  This person has been able to send email to me without issues before and other users in the organization can still send without any difficulty.  Aol returns the following error message to the sender often, but not all the time.  Again - some times the email comes through to me.


Send mtaiw-aag05.mx.aol.com rejected your message to the following email addresses:  eyeroberts@aol.com

They are not going to SPAM folder, I checked the IP address and it is good.

Hi Guys,

I had Exchange 2016 installed on windows server 2016, everything was working great. we had to change the IP address of Exchange server and domain controller, since then Exchange did not work. we were not able to Send/Receive emails.  so we did some torubleshooting and we ended up breaking that Exchange server.

Now we have built a new windows server and installed Exchange 2016 on it. I did all the pre-requiste steps that were needed and installed Exchange 2016. setup was successfull.

Now, I try to connect  to ECP or OWA, it will ask me for username and password. I would put in the admin credentials and it would give me an error "Http 500 internal server error mean that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying".

Managment console says connected, IIS has correct IP of this new exchange. IPconfig\all results are attached with this post.

Using the below piece of code.  Attempting to test sending an email.  I do receive the "Sent" message box but never receive an email.  Any ideas?

We are using Exchange 2010 and I would like to set the retention policy for just the inbox folder (none of the folders under it) to 18 months. Is this possible? If not in 2010 can 2013 or 16 do this?

out of nowhere we are receiving this bounce back below, when trying to send to a few different clients.  Nothing has changed and we were able to email them last week, however this week we are getting this message.   I have no clue what to even check and it's different clients so I am assuming it is on our side.  Ideas?

So Google has failed me :)

I have a shared mailbox in Exchange 2013.  It works fine with out and in mail.  The other day one of my users used the mailbox to send a message, and it appeared to work.  But when she got emails that the receivers never got the email, she tried a second time from her persoanl account, and found it being rejected for file size.  The File size is NOT the issue, but the fact that the rejection message send from My excahnge MBX server, was either never sent to the shared mailbox, or never received.

I am still pretty new to exchange.  
  1. Does anyone know what is going on?  
  2. Is there a way I can trace a message to see all the logs assochiated with it??

When i try to create a account with the requested name(by the client), exchange 2013 creates as yyy2@contoso.com(example). I already look for disable accounts, users and i didn´t find anything that appoints that yyy@contoso.com is created or were created.

Hi Experts, AFAIK there are 3 ways to anti-spam to an Exchange 2016 environment: SPF, DKIM and DMARC

I can configured SPF record on domain control panel but not sure about the 2 others, does anyone have experience with them? Can we configure them on Exchange mailbox server, or public DNS of ISP?

We are having an issue where users are not receiving delayed delivery status emails but they are receiving failed delivery notifications.  The option is set to notify sender when message is delayed by one hour but no one ever receives it.  Any ideas?

We are using Exchange 2007 and outlook 2013. The PA to the Director have the access to the Director calendar. The PA opens the director calendar from his PC and Right click a free slot on the director calendar –New appointment and invite Attendees and send the meeting request. When click send after some time gets and error Delivery failed to these recipients or distribution list.

Do I need to give any permissions for the PA.  After some time PA  gets a message on his inbox saying Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:
There's a problem with the recipient's mailbox. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator. Please see the Diagnostic information for administrators attached.

Any help will be great, thanks in advance.

Hey all. Nice easy one for the Exchange experts. How do I enable DSAccess diagnostics logging in Exchange 2010 and 2013? and see the list of DCs exchanges uses for LDS lookup?

 I remember back in 2000 days we'd run exchange manager (might be wrong name) to see the diagnostics tab and also have a look at the DSAccess tab to see whether exchange had been hard coded to look at particular domain controllers but how is all that done these days? Anyone know?

Hi, can someone elaborate on what these messages are please? our client was having email problems yesterday so they decided to go on the server and make changes themselves in order to remedy it.  they then emailed us today saying they are receiving these messages now (see below for an example), seems to be when the client receives mail.  is someone able to tell us how to turn off these alerts.  attached are also two examples

We're seeing an issue on both of our Exchange 2016 Edge Transport errors where some transport rules will execute properly, however some won't. Regardless, whenever a transport rule is fired off, we see the below error. Has anyone seen this before? This is Exchange 2016 CU6.

By the way, we have Exchange installed on a separate drive. All the logs are installed on a separate drive as well (message tracking, protocol logging, etc).

Hi everybody,
I have set up an Amazon SES account to send my transactional mail. It looks like working good.
But I need to track remote server response of each of email (when it is send, delivered and accepted by the server)
In this document they suggest some alternatives http://docs.aws.amazon.com/ses/latest/DeveloperGuide/monitor-sending-activity.html

Thru the alternatives I gave a try to  Amazon CloudWatch. Cloudwatch started giving me some information at the overall but not at the email detail (delivery time, etc)

Anybody can help me in this issue?

One of my clients sent me this email. Is this a legit email? I can not figure it out for the life of me! Or is it spam? Urgh, these small things.. It could be nothing at all. They were having some hiccups with their email so I was wondering. We are in the process of transferring the domain from host gator to WIX, so I was not sure if I needed to update anything with Office 365 after the domain is transferred.
