An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. Examples of properties typical of embedded computers when compared with general-purpose ones are low power consumption, small size, rugged operating ranges, and low per-unit cost. Modern embedded systems are often based on microcontrollers; the processor(s) used may be types ranging from general purpose to those specialised in certain class of computations, or even custom designed for the application at hand. A common standard class of dedicated processors is the digital signal processor (DSP).

I am looking for a way of resetting an Intel S2600CP server system board back to the factory default settings using a jumper or some type of button on the server system board.

This server system board is currently not able to boot into the BIOS so I need another way to reset the server system board back to its factory default settings.

How can this be done?

I have a server that is set up using an Intel S2600CP server system board.

Over the weekend the Server 2012 OS suddenly blue screened.

Now whenever we power the server on the initial screen appears but then the server never progresses any further in the Power On Self Test (POST).

It will simply hang for around 3 minutes and then reboot and continue the cycle of never progressing any further in the POST of bootup process.

I have reseated both CPUs and securely attached the heat sync and fans and have disconnected all hard drives and the DVD drive.

I have removed all cards from the server (RAID card, video card, USB card, sound card, etc.) and have also removed all but one stick of RAM but this issue continues to occur.

Furthermore I have unplugged all cabled from the back of the server (USB cables, network cable, USB drives, etc.) and this issue continues to occur.

The problem is that the server never gets far enough into the POST or boot process for me to go into the BIOS. And of course I can't boot off of any discs, USB drives, or hard drives.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Are there any reset buttons any where on the server system board or other methods I can use to further troubleshoot and fix this issue?

Please let me know if any further information is needed.

Are there currently any single sided writable DVDs that are larger than 4.7 GB?

I would like to be able to burn content to single sided DVDs that can store more data than the standard 4.7 GB DVDs.

If so what are these DVDs called, who makes them, and where can I purchase them online?

Running Windows 7 Pro on Dell Optiplex 3020 minitower.  Intel pentium motherboard.  I'm trying to plug in a multimedia card reader into the internal USB port.  See pictures of internal port and end of multimedia reader. Seems pretty simple. After I plug it in and turn on computer the new disk drive devices should show on my computer and device manager, but they don't.  Tried putting in an SD card on the chance the drives won't show unless they have a card plugged in.  Still nothing.  I don't think those internal usb ports need to be enabled or anything.  Tried two different card readers taken from other computers.  Neither works.
Thanks,

There are USB ports different colors nowadays.   Black, Blue, Yellow.

What are the recommendation what to hook  up into which port?
Wired keyboards/mice
Wireless keyboards/mice transmitters
Phone cable chargers
USB printers.

Thanks.

Is the Adaptec 8805 RAID controller card fully compatible with Server 2012 R2?

The homepage for this RAID controller card is http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/support/raid/sas_raid/asr-8805/.

The downloads tab of this webpage says "Note: Only drivers that are not included or embedded within a supported operating system are listed below. To see a complete list of supported operating systems see the Product Specifications."

This downloads tab does not list the Server 2012 R2 operating system (which could be because the Server 2012 R2 OS already has the built in drivers for this RAID controller card).

Upon clicking on the Product Specifications tab of this webpage there is a list of supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows,
Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, Fedora, Debian Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Sun Solaris, FreeBSD, and VMware ESXi.

Does this mean that the Server 2012 R2 operating system is fully supported by the Adaptec 8805 RAID controller card?

Hi,

I am working on an embedded system project which requires converting an existing embedded C code (using RTOS) to a portable code. The project is currently in analysis phase.

As I am quite new to this field, so I would like to clarify few basic things about portability,

What does a portable code signify in general sense.
Does the portable code mean a 100% platform independent code that should work on any hardware + OS combination?
OR
Does this mean a code that works on a specific set of OS and hardware.?
Does the portable code need to be compiled differently to work on different OS?
What is the standard approach followed to convert a code into platform independent code?

Any suggestions/information will be of great help.

Thanks & Regards,

I people actively using F2 and other keys for Excel applications.  On laptops however, they have to use Fn+F2 or similar.  Otherwise it controls Volumes and other hardware functions.
Is there a way to disable those?

Thanks.

I want to hack a floppy drive. I want to gain access to and control the movement of the Read/Write heads to read and write to a floppy disk.
I am wondering if there is anybody out there who has already done this and could share some of this information? It would be very useful to know what floppy drive is the easiest to hack.
I would also be interested in encoding and timing diagrams for reading and writing.

Hi,

Are there any recommendations on how to convert WYSE C-Class embedded clients into Zero or WYSE Thin OS?

In our estate we simply don't need the Windows 7 Embedded part and want to point directly to our VMware Horizon Connection (5.2) to simplify the end user experience.

 Thanks.

There will be an online application to accept product bar-code and weight until its weight is entered by the cashier so that program could display the amount to be paid. I need some information to interface the scale with this application.

Question 1: What type scales will output weight information for the application use?
Question 2: What are the means and options to interface the scale input to the application screen?

Eventually, the data will be stored in a database.

Question 3: In order not to reinvent the wheel, what systems are available in low price range?

Thank you,

I want to start on the feasibility study of reusing old mobile phone batteries to prevent creating electronics waste.
The batteries will be used for backup support for tablet or mobile phone. The best case should be utilizing the battery at 3.8V (without boosting up to 5V) to eliminate conversion loss.

The idea is to create some circuit to get different batteries with same voltage level but different capacity to work together to power a equipment such as tablet computer.

You can say, this project is to explore a way let dog, horse, cow and donkey to pull a car together.

I wonder what keywords should I search in the internet or journal articles to begin.

Thank you very much!

I have a user with a full sized Dell OptiPlex 9020 who would like to use one or both of the Dell Display video ports while also using the PCI video card currently connected to this PC.

This Dell OptiPlex 9020 has Display ports built into the system board.

Will the workstation's built in Display video ports continue to work while the PC is also using the PCI video card?

Please provide me with the default hardware specs for a Dell OptiPlex 9020 workstation.

This OptiPlex 9020 appears to have two HDMI or display port ports built into the system board. I'm trying to figure out what these ports are especially since I tried plugging an HDMI cable into these ports and these HDMI cables don't fit.

I need to clear the BIOS password from a Toshiba Satellite. Apparently it's something to do with the G2 or G3 solder points (highlighted). Where can I find more information on this? Does anyone know the procedure to reset the BIOS?

Hello,
need help from experts. I need to build small CNC for school study purpose, and have minor problems with driver.
Current situation of hardware, and software:
- Arduino Uno
- stepper motor EasyDriver v4
- Nema17 stepper motors
- github grbl open source as software
I have already successful hardware, with grbl software. Process works successful.
What I have found that EasyDriver are very unstable, meaning they are overheating, sometimes one of them is not even working (like disconnected at all). I have also already find some public posts that also other users have same problems.

So, what I would like to replace those drivers. Most would like to build own circuit, but do not have a lot of experience with IC chips which would able to connect with Arduino, and to be compatible with GRBL software. Of course I can buy something for 50-100$, but that would not be a student project anymore, due to high cost budget.
