An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. Examples of properties typical of embedded computers when compared with general-purpose ones are low power consumption, small size, rugged operating ranges, and low per-unit cost. Modern embedded systems are often based on microcontrollers; the processor(s) used may be types ranging from general purpose to those specialised in certain class of computations, or even custom designed for the application at hand. A common standard class of dedicated processors is the digital signal processor (DSP).

Dell Wyse 5010 Thin Client, AMD G-Series T48E Dual-Core, 2GB (WDKD5)

Connecting to Terminal Server on SBS-2008  Regular windows Clients are able to connect
I keep getting Citrix Logon Failed

I have never set one of these up before and the documentation is scarce .
Is there more to this than plugging it in and pointing it to the terminal server ?
It has the correct DNS settings .
I cant seem to find any setup docs for this .

Strange ..

Hi,

I am using the ReadFile WINAPI function to read from a USB port using the USBSER.SYS  driver.

The USBSER.SYS driver allows me to read and write to the USB port as it it were a file on disk. So I open the serial port with a "CreateFile" call as I would create a physical file on disk.

I am, of course, reading and writing to a device and not a real file.

I write to the file with the WriteFile call and read from the file with a  ReadFile call.

My problem is that the ReadFile call works on xp, win7, win 8, win 8.1 but not Windows 10.

Any ideas? Do you see or can you take a guess at any reason why my ReadABuffer method might not work on windows 10? WriteFile works just fine, by the way on Windows 10. I am, by the way, verifying using a USB reader and debugging tool that the traffic I am supposed to be reading is actually being sent from the device  and is visible in the USB trace.

This is old MFC code that was originally developed in Visual Studio 6 (prior to .NET 2001!) and has been upgraded to VS2012. I was written in 2001 (15 years ago!).

This was probably written when some of you were in Kindergarten!  :-) This is  a hard question and I wish I could award more points.

I have an Odroid XU4 with Ubuntu 15.10 installed (flashed from http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:xu3_release_linux_ubuntu)

When I use the USB3 ports, I get drop outs and slow speed. The syslog shows a lot of :

Mar 24 17:00:00 odroid kernel: [ 18.967657] [c6] xhci-hcd xhci-hcd.5.auto: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called with disabled ep ddd5fd80

Googling that error shows that others have seen the same issue with xhci, but I cannot see a fix, other than changing the setting XHCI mode in the BIOS from "Smart Auto" to "disabled." Ubuntu will then use EHCI, which works, but at USB2 speed, not USB3.

I have 2 questions:

1-To test that this is in fact the issue, i need to disable XHCI in the odroid bios. How do I do this? I only see the boot/boot.ini file, and there are no XHCI settings.

2- As I will need USB3 speed, how can I get rid of the xhci_drop_endpoint error and get my USB3 devices working at high speed?

Thank you.

Sometimes when I run a server such as mosquitto
mosquitto -c /etc/mosquitto/mosquitto.conf

or Flask
python app.py

, it is only running when the terminal which is running the ssh is alive.
1. Is there a way to run it on the background no matter the terminal is shutdown or not? (Rebooting is not considered)
2. What if I want it to automatically start when the Pi reboot?

Thanks!

I have a few pcs of extended batteries for X230:
FRU PN 45N1029
ASM PN 45N1028

But my X230 has broken down & can't be used anymore &
I just got a used X201 (in quite good condition) & its battery
is slightly different:
FRU PN 42T4696
ASM PN 42T4697

It's quite a waste that the 2 pcs of X230's batteries can't
fit into the X201: is there anyway to "adapt" them to fit
into the X201 laptop?

Somehow the used battery that comes with the used X201
doesn't last very long : about 2 hrs when browsing the net
so I'm hoping the 2 X230's batteries can be used

How do I communicate (interact) with:

1) microSD card
2) eMMC
3) NAND Flash
4) Most flash memory units

I know we can interact with a microSD card through SDIO or SPI (not recommended).
0
I need a Flash type memory on my system. But my SOC can't directly interface with eMMC so is there a chip that is just like SD interface but it can be integrated on a board?
0
I need to interact/communicate with a NAND Flash or eMMC. But I'm not sure if I have to use SPI or I2C. And if eMMC can even communicated with SPI or I2C.

Also, what is a good alternative for a SD card? I was thinking about using an eMMC (4GB) but I am open to ideas.

Thanks!

I need to add reserver IPs for a few network devices on our network.
In the juniper router it there is a section to reserve IP's. But if I check the reserve button and add the ip address with the mac address and click on OK. Will it disable DHCP?

Experts, please advise!

We need to install WES7 (Windows Embedded Standard 7) for a POS environment on an HP Thin Client.

We have four HP Thin Client t520 models, pre-loaded with the HP Thin Pro operating system.

We have just been informed by our third party POS support that we will need WES7 for other hard/software compatibility purposes.

Thus, the device does not have WES7 pre-loaded.

Now, we need to backtrack and get these units loaded with WES7 -- which is proving to be a hurdle.

I've downloaded a trial version of WES7 x86 (matching the hardware specs for the Thin Client) and am encountering an error regarding drivers needed to begin the installation process. We are able to boot the .iso and get to the standard Windows installation page but soon encounter an error regarding drivers. There's no specification of which driver is prohibiting the install from proceeding.

Is it possible to install WES7 on an HP Thin Client hardware. As you can tell, we are new to this "Thin Client" environment and hardware. Microsoft doesn't clearly answer how to get this WES7 onto said devices without ordering WES7 pre-loaded/OEM.

Thank you.

How can I reset a Dell R610 BIOS back to its default settings?

I have gone into the BIOS but so far haven't seen any options on how to do this.

How can this be done?

A customer has started having a recent issue with his Dell PowerEdge R610 server.

While the server is running the POST is displays the messages shown in the screenshot about several DIMMs being disabled.

This server used to have 24 GB of RAM and now only 8 GB of RAM is recognized within the Server 2012 R2 OS.

I have gone into the BIOS and haven't yet been able to find a way of setting the BIOS back to its default settings.

I have also looked at the RAM and other configurations within the BIOS and haven't yet been able to find any settings or configurations that look like they could change these settings.

This server is already running the latest BIOS version and when the Dell update is run all other updates have also been installed.

This issue started occurring around 2 weeks ago and since then the customer has tried to fix this issue by updating the BIOS to the most current version which hasn't fixed this issue.

This server is out of warranty otherwise I would call Dell.

What can be done to fix this issue so that the full 24GB of RAM will once again be recognized by this server?

Greetings,

I have a few Symbol MC92N0 devices running Windows Embedded 6.5.  Is it possible to join them to a domain?  If so, instructions would be appreciated.  It looks like I need MDM 2008SP1 (and with it Microsoft System Center).  Is that correct?

My goal is to get a computer and user certificate on the devices so they can communicate over my WPA2-Enterprise wireless network, which requires both.  I have almost no experience with Windows Embedded.  Any pointers appreciated.

I'm tired of half-stepping my office server. I suppose you could consider what I do with the hardware a hobby but I also run my business out of my home and it  very much relies  on the VMs and data stored within.
I tried to upgrade my host without doing my diligence with the research. Now I'm paying for it and everything is running in limp-mode on the backup server (at least I have one of those) until I get t he new board.

My wife is going to make the new board my Christmas gift so as soon I complete this post I'm going to box all of this up, send it back and pace the floors until that day. Very exciting stuff!!!!
Phillip suggested a couple of boards and that may very well be the one to go with but I would like to give you experts more detail about the environment so that we know we are getting the correct board for the job.

So here is the criteria I would like to see on it:
The existing board is ATX but I can see studs in rack-mount case for larger

Real raid onboard with bbu

Dual processor and maybe (but probably not) LGA1150 slots. I have this new  (1) Xeon 3.4.
If LGA1150 not a good option then we can just get 2 new processors

Lots of DDR3. The existing server has 32G of server memory

Gigabit NICs. 10 Gb/s would not do me any good beyond my switch anyway.

Also the existing case has a cheap backplane with individual SATA and Molex connectors for the power.
