An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. Examples of properties typical of embedded computers when compared with general-purpose ones are low power consumption, small size, rugged operating ranges, and low per-unit cost. Modern embedded systems are often based on microcontrollers; the processor(s) used may be types ranging from general purpose to those specialised in certain class of computations, or even custom designed for the application at hand. A common standard class of dedicated processors is the digital signal processor (DSP).

I am working on a Surface RT Tablet trying to get the touchscreen to work. Device Manager shows issues with the "Surface RT Touch Firmware" and the "I2C HID Device." I have tried multiple restarts, Windows updates, multiple system resets and searching for the drivers online with no success. Assistance is needed.

In order to use Sense Hat https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/sense-hat/ under Python 3, I tried to run "sudo pip-3.2 install pillow" because that was what I was told when I tried to run "sudo apt-get install sense-hat" (http://pythonhosted.org/sense-hat/). However, below error happened. Does any one know how to solve this problem? Thanks!

...If I2C was disabled prior to this installation, a reboot is required.
To work under Python 3, the Sense HAT library requires pillow.
This can be installed by running 'sudo pip-3.2 install pillow'.
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo pip-3.2 install pillow
Downloading/unpacking pillow
  Downloading Pillow-3.0.0.tar.gz (9.6Mb): 9.6Mb downloaded
Running setup.py egg_info for package pillow

Installing collected packages: pillow
  Running setup.py install for pillow

I'm tinkering with the idea of developing in Java for an embedded system.

The system has a somewhat primitive LCD screen, with black and white pixels, 180x160 pixels.

How does one interface Java with a specific hardware screen?

What sort of "screen" class would I make, so I can interface this with Java?

Are there any examples?

(and then of course I'll also made an LCD screen emulator class which somehow displays on a regular computer screen.)

I am having an issue with an HP Pavilion 20-3013w all-in-one pc.   The hard drive went bad and I can't get it to recognise the replacement.   It keeps saying Error: no boot disk detected or drive failure  The original drive was a 500gig and the new drive is a 2TB drive.   The 2TB drive is brand new out of the box.  In order to get by the message that is displayed I have to move some jumpers on the system board to clear the bios.   Once the bios is cleared it will let me press ESC or F10 to get into the bios screen to disable secure boot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

It basically disables the links for email address and website address on my signature . How can i make it so no matter what the source email is formatted as that my signature line links will always be active?

I just bought a new GUSTT brand wallet (on Amazon) which blocks RFID. I have a few new credit cards which have the chip in them and had high hopes.

So I was excited to test it out since I have an MBTA Charlie Card and fully expected the wireless access to fail as I waved the wallet in front of the receiver. But the gate opened, like it used to with my leather wallet. So is this a valid test? Should the Charlie Card's signal have been blocked. Here's the technology used in the Charlie Card.

http://makezine.com/2012/07/17/how-to-embed-an-rfid-card-in-an-iphone/

Does this mean it's a "wallet failure"?

I am rather bummed (pun intended).

Thanks.

I am looking for a way of resetting an Intel S2600CP server system board back to the factory default settings using a jumper or some type of button on the server system board.

This server system board is currently not able to boot into the BIOS so I need another way to reset the server system board back to its factory default settings.

How can this be done?

I have a server that is set up using an Intel S2600CP server system board.

Over the weekend the Server 2012 OS suddenly blue screened.

Now whenever we power the server on the initial screen appears but then the server never progresses any further in the Power On Self Test (POST).

It will simply hang for around 3 minutes and then reboot and continue the cycle of never progressing any further in the POST of bootup process.

I have reseated both CPUs and securely attached the heat sync and fans and have disconnected all hard drives and the DVD drive.

I have removed all cards from the server (RAID card, video card, USB card, sound card, etc.) and have also removed all but one stick of RAM but this issue continues to occur.

Furthermore I have unplugged all cabled from the back of the server (USB cables, network cable, USB drives, etc.) and this issue continues to occur.

The problem is that the server never gets far enough into the POST or boot process for me to go into the BIOS. And of course I can't boot off of any discs, USB drives, or hard drives.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Are there any reset buttons any where on the server system board or other methods I can use to further troubleshoot and fix this issue?

Please let me know if any further information is needed.

Are there currently any single sided writable DVDs that are larger than 4.7 GB?

I would like to be able to burn content to single sided DVDs that can store more data than the standard 4.7 GB DVDs.

If so what are these DVDs called, who makes them, and where can I purchase them online?

Running Windows 7 Pro on Dell Optiplex 3020 minitower.  Intel pentium motherboard.  I'm trying to plug in a multimedia card reader into the internal USB port.  See pictures of internal port and end of multimedia reader. Seems pretty simple. After I plug it in and turn on computer the new disk drive devices should show on my computer and device manager, but they don't.  Tried putting in an SD card on the chance the drives won't show unless they have a card plugged in.  Still nothing.  I don't think those internal usb ports need to be enabled or anything.  Tried two different card readers taken from other computers.  Neither works.
Thanks,

Is the Adaptec 8805 RAID controller card fully compatible with Server 2012 R2?

The homepage for this RAID controller card is http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/support/raid/sas_raid/asr-8805/.

The downloads tab of this webpage says "Note: Only drivers that are not included or embedded within a supported operating system are listed below. To see a complete list of supported operating systems see the Product Specifications."

This downloads tab does not list the Server 2012 R2 operating system (which could be because the Server 2012 R2 OS already has the built in drivers for this RAID controller card).

Upon clicking on the Product Specifications tab of this webpage there is a list of supported operating systems: Microsoft Windows,
Red Hat Linux, SUSE Linux, Fedora, Debian Linux, Ubuntu Linux, Sun Solaris, FreeBSD, and VMware ESXi.

Does this mean that the Server 2012 R2 operating system is fully supported by the Adaptec 8805 RAID controller card?

Hi,

I am working on an embedded system project which requires converting an existing embedded C code (using RTOS) to a portable code. The project is currently in analysis phase.

As I am quite new to this field, so I would like to clarify few basic things about portability,

What does a portable code signify in general sense.
Does the portable code mean a 100% platform independent code that should work on any hardware + OS combination?
OR
Does this mean a code that works on a specific set of OS and hardware.?
Does the portable code need to be compiled differently to work on different OS?
What is the standard approach followed to convert a code into platform independent code?

Any suggestions/information will be of great help.

Thanks & Regards,

I people actively using F2 and other keys for Excel applications.  On laptops however, they have to use Fn+F2 or similar.  Otherwise it controls Volumes and other hardware functions.
Is there a way to disable those?
