Enterprise Software

Enterprise software, also known as enterprise application software (EAS), is computer software used to satisfy the needs of an organization, including businesses, schools, interest-based user groups, clubs, charities, or governments. Services provided by enterprise software are typically business-oriented tools such as online shopping and online payment processing, interactive product catalogue, automated billing systems, security, enterprise content management, IT service management, customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), business intelligence (BI), project management, human resource management (HR), manufacturing and supply chain management, enterprise application integration (EAI), and enterprise forms automation. Enterprise software is often available as a suite of customizable programs that require specialist capabilities.

NOT a FIELD LABEL. Can an existing default field name be renamed or do I have to create a custom field only...?

I ask because I need to change the TASK Table in Salesforce but there is no way to add a new Custom Field in the TASK Table in the Object Manager. See image.

Note the NEW custom field button is not available
If there is a way to do this please tell me how? Thank you.

Here in another table you can see a NEW custom field button is available. My problem is it looks like I am going to need to change the types and or names of some of the fields in the TAST Table in order for it to work.

New Button is available under CONTACT Table....Why not the TASK

We are working with Dynamics 365 CRM (on-premise) and using a custom front-end developed with ADX.

My issue is that ADX allows a CRM quote or order to be shared with the same user more than once.  When this is done, we receive an error message: "Cannot insert duplicate key."  (It is my understanding that this is the default Dynamics error).

What I want to do is replace this with a more user-friendly message like: "This order has been already shared with that sales person".

I am looking for the best approach to transform the default error message to the user-friendly message.

Thank you

My company is in need of a software that will allow a support ticket to be invoiced.  It will also need to have a remote connection and monitoring capabilities.  It would also need to have quotation and work/sales order capabilities.

I have looked a Zoho One, Comodo One, and Connect Wise.  Connect Wise is too expensive.  Zoho One and Comodo One do everything we need, but not all modules work together.

I need to work within a $500 monthly budget.

Thank You

Immutable Class Builders

The other day I showed 1 way to make a Class #Builder more meaningful, #semantically, leveraging the #programming language's type system. Today, I'm going to address how to make them immutable, its benefits, and its drawbacks.

Why?

Class Builders typically use mutable architectures where the programming language allows. In #Java we often see the following model:

@Immutable
final Class Person {

public final Name name;
public final Address address;

Person(final Builder builder) {
  this.name = builder.name:
  this.address = builder.getAddress();
}

}

@Mutable
final class Builder {

public final Name name;
@Nullable private Address address;

private Builder(final Name name) {
  this.name = name:
  this.address = Address.empty();
}

public static Builder named (final Name name) {
  return new Builder(name);
}

public Builder with (@Nullable final Address address) {
  this.address = (null == address) ? Address.empty() : address;
}

public Address getAddress () {
  return (null == this.address) ? Address.empty() : this.address;
}

public Person build () {
  return new Person(this);
}

}

Whatever Person field is required, we find in the Builder's constructor. In the above example, that's Name.

Other fields are optional, and their value is added to a Person instance by using one if the Builder.with() instance methods.

Note how the Builder also features a …

Anton Shipilev showed in 2014 that using all final fields and setting them in the class constructor did in fact slow down initialization when using Oracle's HotSpot Java compiler on ARM and PowerPC. I have yet to see whether his recommendations have been committed. https://shipilev.net/blog/2014/all-fields-are-final/

Now getting the Fall Creators Update of Windows 10, Build 1709. Our ERP application runs in Visual Fox Pro.
The invoicing module creates an email template with the invoice attached as a PDF file, pulls the default email address from the customer file, wraps it up, and sends it to Outlook. (2013, in our case.)
Since the 1709 Build came in, the email address and attachment gets stripped from the Outlook generated file.

The ERP company is seeing this from other customers and other flavors of Outlook, and suggests removing the specific Outlook updates as a workaround, yet I see no updates itemized for Outlook specifically. I just see the options to revert to the previous version, clean install, all those options.

I am wondering if there is a registry level key that is telling Outlook not to "trust" Visual Fox Pro generated files. It has worked flawlessly on Windows 10 since the beginning up to build 1703. I tried to use the ERP application on a 1703 machine, and it worked as it always has, so the 1709 build is the problem.

I could just revert back to the 1703 build, but one of the pain points of Windows 10 is the inability to reject updates. You can defer them, but not reject them, that I can see, so eventually, if I roll this back to 1703 Build, it will eventually revert back. I suspect since Fox Pro is no longer supported by Microsoft, I can expect no fix on their side of things, and the ERP company hasn't a plan to deal with it until the problem gets wider across …

I'm trying to find the most accurate job description to describe a job but would like a little feedback.

The job position has traditionally been called 'Cloud Solution Architect' but I think that Solution Architect is more traditionally a sales or sales engineering based role.  This one would be more of an 'Engineer in charge of design and set up of a customer environment' which would include designing and creating an environment of web servers, database servers, file servers, and RDS server engineering to make applications compatible with terminal services and how users will be accessing.

I think 'Solution Engineer' may be more apt, or 'Infrastructure Designer'?  Not looking for an artisian name, just something that accurately describes what the job entails without brining in recruiters or resumes that are sales based as this is more of a Virtualization/Windows Admin position.

The other week I started thinking on how to visualize a problem in any of my employer's thousands of processes.

Most of them can detect whether they reach a desired outcome, and can send off an email based on that.

And then we need to monitor those, and also learn which email points at which process.

With thousands of them, that results in a lot of experience-based knowledge, stuck in the minds of a handful of employees, like me.

That may be good for the continuation of my position, but it also sets up any new employee for failure.

So I was thinking.

And I was looking at the diagrams I had been producing, to visualize our processes. What if...

What if those diagrams had colored lights, showing exactly which connection or which process is experiencing a problem?

And I was reminded of old computer rooms, old mission control, old scifi movies, and modern power plants, that did and do exactly that.

Tools exist to set up automated monitoring of processes, based on exit values, environment expectations, and what-not. My employer used to use one that was more work to maintain, than it helped solve processing and workflow problems. We stopped using it.

So the hunt is on.

Visualizing the diagrams should be straightforward. I don't want these process flows carved into wood: they change too often, and we have many. I want them projected, and cycle through the problematic ones by default. And the monitoring system must monitor itself too.

I have customized entity, e.g. driver license, and I create look up field to User Entity. When I go to Web Form, it shows me the user name which is perfect. However, when I want to create another look up field to another custom entity, e.g. Insurance Agent, it shows the PK key only. So if I want to show Insurance Agent.Full Name (assume there is full name field inside of Insurance Agent entity).

How do i do that?

Let’s face it: one of the reasons your organization chose a SaaS solution (whether Microsoft Dynamics 365, Netsuite or SAP) is that it is subscription-based. The upkeep is done. Or so you think.

Great article! Useful links, also the important points "Bandwidth, Objectivity, Expertise, Strategy, ROI" and the details about the points are very much clear... "it is not only worth the discussion, but it’s likely worth doing a more detailed assessment..." - very true! Also, you are right i.e. checking the reviews is more significant before going with any cloud computing consulting services provider for a long-term relationship... Thank you!

I need some help writing a query to pull some data out of a Release 12.1.3 eBusiness Suite database, specific to the accounts payable module.

I need a payments history query between 2 dates, that provides the following fields:

supplier ID, supplier name, site ID, supplier invoice number, oracle invoice number (voucher number?), invoice date, payment date, total invoice amount, VAT amount, method of payment, payment reference number (e.g. check run details).

Can anyone assist - no idea where to start in terms of tables. Presume its quite a common query though so hopefully someone has some sample SQL to share. I'd prefer to get the data this way that via a standard report in the application. most standard reports that sounded close were more geared towards reports per supplier, whereas I need it for all payments, regardless of supplier.

We are looking at doing a DNS web filtering service. We have public WiFi so we feel this is the easiest way to avoid an ssl mismatch.
If we did do DNS filtering, would it be logical for us to block all connections to port 53 UDP unless it's to the web filtering DNS servers? This way someone can bypass it by changing their DNS servers?

Hello EE,

We are migrating to SAP as our ERP system and I am in IT support.
I am the current ERP admin and would like to get my feet wet in being able to admin/support the SAP platform going forward.

There are many training classes and I don't know if anyone would have anything to recommend

I am using an ERP product called Epicor and trying to create a calculated field using their query tool.  The code as I understand is Progress.

I have a value in a number field of 24,165 which represents the seconds past midnight.  When converting it to a readable time it is 06:42:45 AM.  Here is the code to get that which I am converting to a character field......
String(Integer(LaborHed.Number01),"HH:MM:SS")

My issue is I need to round up this to the closest 15 minute interval which in this case would be 07:00:00 AM.  Here is my lame attempt......
String(Round(LaborHed.Number01 * 60 * 60 / 3600,0),"HH:MM:SS")
