I would like Expert-Exchange to introduce 'Publish to Twitter', 'Publish to LinkedIn' options in Contribute -> Test Website for Bugs option.

This would ensure the asker gets comprehensive testing from more audience.

Hi Brian,

Sure. I would definitely suggest the feature in the forum you had reported. I personally feel that the Testing feature in EE is very useful for particularly SME (Small to Medium Enterprises) because it engages a lot of collaborative testing across the globe.

Enable Sound when booting in Safe Mode with Networking

What for you may ask?

Well, for one thing, it's *very* useful for Blind people who make heavy use of screen readers and need to boot into safe mode. I've made the solution available from a public folder on my website using the following link:

https://www.computerhelpzone.com.au/publicdocs/SoundInSafeMode.zip

Credits for this great solution:

Brian Vogel - The author of this solution. Brian tutors the blind and is a volunteer moderator at Bleeping Computer forums

Bill Prew - Trusted Expert at Experts Exchange who very kindly assisted greatly with the debugging and rewriting of the included batch file to allow flawless execution when I reached out to him for help

Hope it helps someone out.

Regards, Andrew

Suggestion: Could everyone please avoid posting links to External Site Articles if the same information is available at Experts Exchange? I see this happening quite often and think that it would be better to point question askers to articles Published by, and hosted at Experts Exchange instead?

Not only do most of our articles have excellent information by some of our great experts, but also, by providing a link to an EE hosted published article, the Question Asker then has the opportunity to ask for clarifications from the article author.

Just a suggestion :-)

I think the issue steps from Experts do not know that an article exists!

and the EE Search, is not exactly Google!

It would be nice, if when an EE Question was typed in before posting, EE suggested that they have the following Articles, which may solve their Question, similar to other Forums.

But it's deeper than this on EE, the articles I wrote were to address the common questions which come on in the VMware topic area, BUT Askers still want hand holding and a dialogue with Experts, even if you have a Good Article to point them to...

Some do not even want to read the article, they want that EE hand held experience.

Andy's VMware vSphere tip#21: End of Support Life for vSphere 5.5, which includes vSphere Hypervisor ESXi 5.5 and vCenter Server 5.5.

The official VMware KB is here...

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/51491

I've seen many posts recently, Experts jumping in and posting, ESXi 5.5 is not supported after September 2018, which is a true statement, but it does not really help the Member posting a question, as to what the issue is today they are experiencing.

also... that is not really a hard and fast rule, Support for ESXi 5.5 CAN be extended if you purchase support.

"In the event you are unable to upgrade before the End of General Support (EOGS) and are active on Support and Subscription, you have the option to purchase extended support in one year increments for up to two years beyond the EOGS date. Visit VMware Extended Support for more information."

"Technical Guidance for vSphere 5.5 is available until September 19, 2020 primarily through the self-help portal"

e.g. all the firmware, security and critical update patches, software will still be available for download, all VMware Kbs, and VMware Communities information will still be available.

What does this mean to you and your organization ?

1. Unless you are covered by a valid support and subscription, and purchased extended support, you will not be able to make a telephone support, or email support, or online support request for vSphere 5.5.

2. If you Support and Subscription has expired - not …

Andy's VMware vSphere tip#2- When creating a virtual disk for VMware vSphere (or Hyper-V), always start small, and expand later. It's much easier to expand a virtual disk, than reduce a virtual disk. Do not be tempted to create 1 TB virtual disk, you will find it difficult to reduce the size. If you have made this mistake you can refer to my EE Articles.

I'm going to start something new at EE, Tips from the VMware vSphere Datacentre... real world tips, that get you through that tricky moment, when all things are turning to that brown stuff.... This happened to me today, adding 5 new vSphere ESXi hosts to a Cluster of 150.

Andy's VMware vSphere tip#1 - HA Operation Timeout - A Host or Hosts refuse to bring HA (High Avaibility online), after upgrading vCenter Server, or adding new hosts to vCenter Server datacentre, no matter what you try, you obtain an Operation Time Out, you look at the FDM.log as advised here - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2011974.

Solution. - Just Edit Cluster Settings - and Disable and Re-enable vSphere HA.

Simples! All that work browsing logs and Reconfigure HA for the Host not required. This does not affect any VMs, and HA will just be unavailable for 30 seconds why you turn on and off.

If you need to discuss this, please post a question to the VMware topic area.

G Suite - My short experience with subscribing to it!

I recently decided to subscribe to G-Suite and my experience lasted a total of about ~48 Hours before I decided to cancel it, despite finding a way to only have to pay $1 AUD a month for the first 12 months.

Why did I cancel? Because of the customer service and support I experienced.

Customer service is very important to me and I found the support system to be severely lacking in many ways. I recall a post by Experts Exchange Expert Scott Fell where he said "gSuite help is still terrible." and I can only mirror the sentiments and comments Scott made, along with a few disappointments of my own.

I intend to write an article on this topic soon, including a "How To" get a large discount for the first year of a G Suite subscription for those that decide to get one, and will be approaching Scott to see if he would be willing to co-author this article so we can both share our experiences for the benefit of the Experts Exchange community.

Look out for this article in the not too distant future.

Regards, Andrew

Hi John,

Thanks for your comment and feedback. I actually found the "product" itself to be quite good, and other subscribers to the suite I've since spoken to (and before trying it for myself) swear by the benefits it gives them. My sole problem is with the Support representatives. I'm in the process of writing an article on this topic and will update this post once it's published in the next week or so.

Update: I just got a G-Suite bill from Google even though I canceled my "Trial" account two days after I started it. My credit card billing history shows a new charge pending.

Further to G-Suite's woeful support options, I have tried in vain for the last 30 minutes to get to Email, Phone, or Chat support without luck, because you have to have an active G-Suite account to be able to access any support options at all!

Logging in several times just gives me the message that the account I'm logging in with (the account I created G-Suite with) is no longer a G-Suite account. Well DERRR! That's because it's canceled, so why Invoice me?!

I can access my previous accounts Admin options, but can't do squat there. No option to delete my credit card details, NO option to contact support.

I eventually managed to get to Groups to open a support request. The email with the invoice came from a no-reply address and included instructions to contact support - yet none of them worked because my account is deactivated.

I said it before and I say it again - G-Suite may be a great product, but their support is WOEFUL and that's being as kind as I can be in a G rated forum!

I'd like to send a public Thank You! to Expert - Joe Winograd - Who has gone above and beyond in helping me with my AutoHotkey scripting efforts.

Joe has a way of explaining programming related things that manage to sink into my thick anti-programming skull. Using the shortcuts that AutoHotkey has made available to me has saved me a ton of repetitive typing at EE and I am very thankful for Joe's efforts.

Thank you Joe!

You're very welcome, Andrew, and my thanks back to you for such kind words — I really appreciate hearing them! To borrow some language from Mr. Spock, it would appear oddly self-serving to endorse your comment, but I'm going to do it, anyway. :)  Regards, Joe
