Illustration Software

Illustration software is distinguished from photo-editing software in that the result is an original construction, rather than the manipulation of a photograph. Illustration software uses vector-based tools such that the content is stored digitally as resolution-independent mathematical formulae describing lines (open paths), shapes (closed paths), and color fills, strokes or gradients. Vector paths are constructed of anchor points and path segments. Illustration tools typically create precise lines, shapes and patterns with well-defined edges and are superb for working with complex constructions such as maps and typography.

The artist made a whole bunch of pages. They aren't on individual artboards.

Notice the white rectangle. That's the only art board in there

When I "save as"  to PDF, I basically get only one blank page.

I'm using Illustrator CS6. I believe the artist did this in a previous version.

The artist was able to export this as a PDF, so I don't quite know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for your help!

Using Notepad++ Version 6.4.5 is there a way to make the first character of each row of data an "Open Parenthesis" and the last 2 characters of each row a "Close Parenthesis" followed by a comma ?

In other words:

'   ABC Bank', '0180','PAYROLL'

AFTER

('   ABC Bank', '0180','PAYROLL'),

Hi, i have received a few graphics (vectors) from a graphic designer.

The graphics are the full size of the canvas in Illustrator.

I want to export the graphics to a certain height in .png format. Is this possible?

In Illustrator, I've resized my artboard to a final size. Now I need to resize everything inside the artboard. I want to highlight all of these elements and then drag the size up to a certain point. This means the elements need to stay proportional as I drag them.

The problem is that when I highlight all of the elements, the artboard keeps highlighting as well. How do I highlight just the elements so I can drag and resize them?

I'm trying to create a rope style brush in Illustrator. I'm following the tutorial at: http://vectorguru.com/tutorials/012-drawing-vector-rope-in-illustrator.html. I'm getting varying results. In one of my efforts the Pathfinder/Unite appears to work, but when I do an Object-->Path-->Outline Stroke, all three pieces get outlined. When I'm able to get by that part and apply the Pathfinder/Intersect, I lose all the strokes. Is there something wrong in the tutorial or, more likely, what might I be doing wrong? The attached file is how the project looks after Object-->Path-->Outline Stroke.

Have no idea how this happened.  I'm sure a wrong combination of F keys or other buttons were pressed.
I'm working on an artboard and colored shapes and then all of a sudden all colors are gone and just the black and white outline remains (see graphic)error.png

I'm want to be able to both drag and rotate an SVG object.  I have it working correctly - almost.   I'm using the .call(drag); on the object, where I have dragstarted, dragged, and dragended function.  I'm also using .attr("transform", "rotate(angle, x, y)"; to rotate the object.

Now from what I understand, rotate does not just rotate the object, but rotates the coordinate system and thus the object.  So, it I rotate an object say 180 degrees, the coordinate system of the object and that of the underlying canvas no longer align.  So now when I drag the rotated object, it does not go where I want it - the movement is exactly opposite.  If I drag up, it goes down, if I drag right, it goes left.  I'm using d3.event.x and d3.event.y to determine the coordinates of where the drag occurs, but these coordinates are in the underlying canvas coordinate system, and not the coordinate system of the rotated object.

How do I compensate for this behavior?

See code below.   I am drawing an arrow using two lines.  I need to be able to drag the arrow.    All three events fire for the star, but visually I cannot drag it.   I also would like a better way to draw an arrowhead based on where the mouse is clicked.   The two lines don't really do the job.

 What might be wrong?

 function DrawArrow(x, y, fillcolor) {

            var drag = d3.behavior.drag()
                      .on("dragstart", dragstarted)
                      .on("drag", dragged)
                      .on("dragend", dragended);

            var line1 = panCanvas.append("line")
                                .attr("x1", x)
                                .attr("y1", y)
                                .attr("x2", x+10)
                                .attr("y2", y+10)
                                .attr("stroke-width", 4)
                                .attr("stroke", fillcolor)
                                .call(drag);

            var line2 = panCanvas.append("line")
                               .attr("x1", x + 10)
                               .attr("y1", y + 10)
                               .attr("x2", x)
                               .attr("y2", y + 20)
                               .attr("stroke-width", 4)
                               .attr("stroke", fillcolor)
                               .call(drag);

            function dragstarted() {
                d3.event.sourceEvent.stopPropagation();

I've been using D3.  I have a project that uses a div as the "canvas", like below.  I have also download D3 examples that use the HTML canvas tag.   What's the difference?  They do not seem to be interchangeable.

 <div id="canvas" style="position:fixed;left:0px;top:0;" runat="server" > </div>

Hello Experts,

I purchased several icons from Noun Project. My problem is that some of the icons are of different size and layout. I would like to somehow make all vector icons the same size and save them as SVG's for my responsive website. But the original dimensions of the vector icons that I downloaded are all different size and layout. If i open them all up in Illustrator they have different dimensions, some are flush to the dartboard others have spacing around the icons. I would like to make them all one specific width/height so that they are all equal width/height. Is this possible?

I am trying to layout a 35 ft wide banner and Illustrator is not letting me make an artboard that big.  Is there a size limit to them.  If so what is the workaround to make something this big?

Thank you!

In Illustrator, when I select a layer that represents a single object, I can't move the object because it isn't actually select on the canvas. Instead, I have to click on the object on the canvas.

Is there a way to engage selection from the layers window?

I have two images below. I'm trying to get one "B" to layer exactly on top of another "B". When I arrow left/right, you can see it keeps passing up the B. Is there a way to decrease the grid or whatever this is snapping to?

Hi

One of my clients is having numerous issues with Illstrator CS5 running on a Macbook Pro Yosemite

The issues all seem to revolve around the handling of the fonts

When the user defines a text zone and then tries to apply a font type to that zone, Illustrator freezes

We tried to play around with the 'tranparency' setting but that had no positive or visible effect.

Any ideas ?

thanks

Adobe Illustrator newb here...

I've created a logo. My understanding is that AI is vector based, which means I can scale w/o losing quality.

When I save for web using the .png format, "jaggies" are introduced, which flies in the face of "vector-based".

What am I doing wrong?

Thank in advance.

I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer. I use CorelDraw x7. I was attempting to print out a 4x6 photo. It came out drenched with ink and naturally very blurry. I phoned HP. They told me I HAD to convert my finished document to PDF and then print from Adobe. It does work, but it seems very strange that such an expensive program such as CorelDraw could not print out a simple picture without the aid of another software manufacturer. Does this sound right to the Experts? I am wondering if the HP person simply found a way to make it function instead of getting to what might be an incorrect setting in CorelDraw.

I believe I am using the gradient tool properly. I have opaque at the left end of a slender layer (4642px wide x 500 high) and it becomes translucent (not transparent) at the right end. I need totally transparent on the right. I would like it to become transparent just before it reaches the right end; but it has to be gradual. I am sort of OK with PS and AI, so whichever is best for you. I don't think this makes any difference, but it will be saved as a .png file and used as background in an asp.net div for a website.  Thank you for any help.  --  Joe

I'm trying to find a tutorial using Adobe Illustrator CC and or Adobe Photoshop CC on how to create a DVD optical disc logoDVD optical disc logo.

I've attached an image that I found online as an example of what I am trying to create.

NOTE: The image I've attached isn't mine and all rights go to the proper owner.

I've created an outline ribbon. I'd like to place another image inside the ribbon and give it the warping blend tool.

I was using envelope distort to try to produce the effect. However, it gives me an error:
The operation cannot be complete because of an unknown error. [3]

I had 8 images that I unlinked and embedded in illustrator so that I could create a symbol with it.
Then I took that symbol and created it into a swatch.
Then I put an envelope distort on my outlined ribbon and I clicked this image with the star on it (my tooltip won't show on hover)

Here is a pic of the symbol I am trying to put into the ribbon outline:

Here is the finished result I am trying to achieve:
