Illustration Software

Illustration software is distinguished from photo-editing software in that the result is an original construction, rather than the manipulation of a photograph. Illustration software uses vector-based tools such that the content is stored digitally as resolution-independent mathematical formulae describing lines (open paths), shapes (closed paths), and color fills, strokes or gradients. Vector paths are constructed of anchor points and path segments. Illustration tools typically create precise lines, shapes and patterns with well-defined edges and are superb for working with complex constructions such as maps and typography.

I am trying to learn Adobe Illustrator on a Mac Air. The selection tool turns into a pencil and becomes useless.
How can I reverse and prevent this?

I'm using Illustrator CS6 and when I open a pdf to edit it shows a bunch of fonts missing (TheSerif font family), it's a paid font.  How can I substitute a font as a rule without having to go through every text element and changing the font?

I've created an image in Illustrator and would like to reduce it down to 45x42 px to use for the web. When I reduce the size down that small or save for the web, the curved edges look pixelated.

I've saved it as PNG, PNG24, GIF. Every time I put my image in my webpage, it comes out blurry, not crisp. I've used no background and the background of the actual site. I've made it the size I need for the web, and made it larger and then resized the IMG tag to be smaller. I've imported into Photoshop and saved. I've imported into RIOT and saved for web.

No matter what I do, it loads pixilated in the web page. (IE and Chrome.) Even from file explorer it isn't 100%, maybe slightly better than on web page though.

Is there any way of making the image crisp at a smaller size? It is a raster image, so why is it pixelating at 45x42? If I make it smaller within Illustrator, it starts pixelating.

pixelated
this is the best so far, but I need it smaller and it's still not 100% crisp.

best so far
thanks.

I have AfterEffexts CC 2014. I am a total novice with this application. I want to know how to make a jpeg image spin and/or rotate using after effects. I tried youtube but couldn't find anything that described the process in the version I have.

Thanks

A user with Adobe InDesign & Illustrator CC is having errors opening and saving files to an AFP share. Both client and server computers are Mac OS X; Mavericks on the client and Lion on the server. File permissions on the share appear to be correct, as the user can save files locally and copy them to the network. Also, other non-Adobe applications can read & write to the same network share. InDesign will throw an error opening a file, but you can click OK, try opening the file again, and it will open. But neither InDesign nor Illustrator will save a file to the network. Attached are screenshots of the errors. Adobe support says that this is a network issue, and they do not support reading or writing files to a network share. Any thoughts?

We have a user who uses Illustrator.  Every once and a while she will have the issue where it says that it is out of Memory (RAM).  I checked and at that time she had over 4Gb of physical memory left and the Swap was at 0 of 8.6Gb.  Am I reading the memory wrong or is something else the issue?  Also the CPU was at 5% used and the hard drive has almost 600Gb free.  She is using a USB 3.0 external hdd to open and save to.  When it crashes the below error is given.

Mac Dump File

I originally posted this on Adobe's forums but no luck so far

Hi,

I have a brochure template as a PSD - I want to use Illustrator to do all of the text editing, and Photoshop for the graphic end of it.

1. How can I save it in Illustrator so when I open it in Photoshop, the layers are shown?

2. Is this the best way to accomplish my goal of designing a brochure, meaning Illustrator for the text and Photoshop for the Graphics?

I have a low resolution pic of a leaf and I open it in Illustrator. I then drew on top of that leaf with the pen tool to get the vector format of the leaf for higher resolution. But the pen tool did not give me a great result as the edges are not smooth (see pic). Is there any other option I can use? Thanks

I added a picture in a layer in Illustrator cs5 and I'd like to use the lasso tool to delete part of the pic. But I could not do it. I know I can do that in Photoshop but I am not familiar with Illustrator. Thanks

I am using CorelDraw X6. I am trying to print out sheets of Avery business cards. I am using Avery product numbers 8879, 8859 and 5371. They are all similar products. I am able to design the business card fine, but I am unable to tell Corel that I want one sheet of ten business cards. All I ever see is the single item I designed both on print preview and also when printing. I would appreciate it if someone could give me specific step by step instructions to let me print out an entire sheet of ten business cards. ( I have done this with success years ago, but the solution escapes me now.)

I have some data on UK regional level that I need to graph onto the UK map with 12 regions. I was able to do a "finer" map on UK postal area level because I was able to find the polygon shapefile for that, but somehow I haven't been able to find the shapefile for the 12 regions like this one

http://www.bmvwarehouse.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Uk-map-whole.jpg

and the chart that I want to create is something like this (albeit for a different country)

http://blog.visual.ly/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/573x356x1000px-Usagraphmap.png,q547b7b.pagespeed.ic.mCpwi5Zac8.png

My goal is to create such a map for UK regions. Anyone know of any software (commercial or open source) that can do this quickly? I know R has a package but I don't know much about R. Many BI software such as Tableau come with US maps, but not UK regions.

I would appreciate any suggestions on this. Thanks

I have a horizontally repeating pattern that I want to apply to a drawn piece of clothing. The tricky part is that it has a full-width extending stroke that must follow  the edge of fabric strictly to appear realistic.

There are many folds and creases and I am not sure about what technique would give me the best result. Googling I came accross many tutorials of one of these:

1. Warp tool
2. Puppet Warp
3. Liquify
4. Displace

So I am guessing that what I want might be a combination of the mentioned above. What do you think?

Hello Experts,

I have a few questions about creating an SVG logo from within Illustrator:

1.) My logo was created in Illustrator using CMYK colors (I chose the Print Profile when I initially created my logo which used the CMYK colors). How can I change those colors to RGB prior to saving my logo as an SVG?

2. ) What is the best method for creating an SVG Logo from within Illustrator and what settings should be used to create the SVG within Illustrator.

Hi, is it possible to skew text properly in photoshop when the text is a text layer OR do you have to rasterize the text layer first.

I have no problem skewing images using the Transform tool but can't seem to skew text type.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Experts,

I'm just learning Illustrator and I recently designed my logo using Illustrator CC. I designed my logo with the Print Profile since I needed to create business cards so all my colors in my layers are using CMYK. So my logo looks great for Print. Now I would like to take all the layers that I created in the Print Profile and add them to the Web Profile (separate file from my Print Profile) if that makes any sense.

I tried to change the document color mode from CMYK to RGB but that didn't seem to give me access to the RGB colors. I also tried to copy all of my layers and paste them into a new .ai document using the Web Profile but that does not keep my layers in contact if I need to resize them as a whole.

Can someone tell me how I can convert the Print Profile to Web Profile by keeping all my layers intact?

What soft fit the most for making simply gif animation without video... just changing pictures in loop. But I need that this  gif runs automatically without any checking on it.

P.S. it will be better that it will be chip or freeware piece of software =)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Hi experts

I am trying to create a strobe lighting effect. I want to create an effect like stage lights flickering down onto the stage.
I've kind of created the affect I'm after with some shapes and animation, but my shapes do not look like light beams!

Ideas on improvement are welcome. I'm particularly seeking guidance on a better style of shape/settings/affects to use to create the light beam affect.

Help!

Hello!
When I try to open .eps vector files in Adobe Illustrator CS6 I get an error message which starts with constatating that Illustrator now honors 9-slice scaling of symbols. Then bla-bla-bla... And then it asks me whether I want to retain this option for symbols. I'm 99% certain I don't need that, but I'm unsure what to answer - YES or NO.
I think I should press NO, but I'm not so sure...
Thanks!

I'm using Photoshop CS6 to upload a business card to an online printing service.

They want a minimum of 300 DPI & max of 600 DPI.
Using an online calculator I arrive about 200 Pixels per Centimeter ...... does that sound okay?

They prefer CMYK colour.
Should I use 8 bit or 16 bit ?

They want a flattened JPG, TIFF, EPS or PDF.
PDF would suit me best, but which is best?

Hello Adobe Illustrator CS5 (Windows) experts.

I have an illustrator file, created by someone else, and one font is missing.

When I open the file, Illustrator says a font is missing and it will substitute the missing font.

How can I tell Illustrator to use a specific font instead of Illustrator automatically making that decision for me?

Thanks!

My question is simple. How to subtract one layer shape from other layer shape in easiest way
Like option Subtract from other path when you create path object in AI

I consider subtract blend mode but this option is not actually make empty field like mask. It subtract upon layer's filled color but gonna show you under layer image in that subtracted area.

I can use mask and some empty layers but this is not good idea, I only want to use that two layer to subtract layer from another for easy work.
