Illustration Software

Illustration software is distinguished from photo-editing software in that the result is an original construction, rather than the manipulation of a photograph. Illustration software uses vector-based tools such that the content is stored digitally as resolution-independent mathematical formulae describing lines (open paths), shapes (closed paths), and color fills, strokes or gradients. Vector paths are constructed of anchor points and path segments. Illustration tools typically create precise lines, shapes and patterns with well-defined edges and are superb for working with complex constructions such as maps and typography.

Hello,

I use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop CC on a PC now. I plan on purchasing a MacBook Pro laptop soon and I have never used a Mac before. So my question is if I create an Illustrator (AI) and Photoshiop (PSD) file on a Mac will I be able to modify that same file (AI and PSD) that I created on a Mac on a PC and visa versa?

Imagine an upside down Mickey Mouse.  Essentially I have 3 circles that overlap and I want to fill in the area where the circles overlap or Intersect  with  a different color shade, leaving the remaining portion (non intersecting areas) of the circles their original colors.

My OS is win 7 prof 64 bit and I am trying to replicate of what I did, like when I am either doing a data entry on a screen or something similar to that.  is there any easy to use software that would do the job.  Since I am experimenting on this, thus if the app is free to use of if there is a trial version, it will be good.
Thank u.

I am trying to open an .eps file using Gimp. I found links to a plugin called Ghostscript that should allow me to open this file.  I downloaded the 64-bit version from: http://www.ghostscript.com/download/gsdnld.html, and can't figure out where to go from here.

I know at some point I'm supposed to add a system variable that points to the location of Ghostscript, but first I need to let Gimp know I have it, right?

 Any pointers?

Hello Experts,

So I have this basic grey verticle rectangle and I can't for the life of me figure out what I am trying to do, which is a very simple task.  All I want to do is cut sections out of the rectangle and place them next to the rectangle.  So in Microsoft Paint, when you select the "Rectangular Selection" tool and draw a rectangle on the image or graphic that you are working on and then drag that selection somewhere, it takes just what you selected and moves it to wherever you put it leaving behind a white square (in this example) where that selection used to be.  In fireworks, as I said before, I have a grey vertical rectangle on a transparent background.  All I want to do is perform this same maneuver drawing a square out of the rectangle, clicking and holding, and dragging the selection to the right side of the grey vertical rectangle leaving behind the transparent background in its place.  This seems to be an incredibly basic function that I can't for the life of me figure out how to do in FW.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The image I am attaching shows what I'm doing in Paint that I want to be able to do in Fireworks.  Seems simple enough right?  I can't find anywhere in Fireworks that will allow me to do this, though.  Every time I select an area of the rectangle in FW and try to click and move, it just moves the selection tool and not the selected area of the image.

I have iMAC users who have the same problem with Adobe inDesign CS6. When they open an inDesign file that is located on a network drive, our file servers are Windows 2008 R2, and leave the file open and computer goes to sleep or locked after waking the computer up inDesign shows the message that Network connection to the FileName has been lost, and after clicking OK on the error message inDesign crashes. Does anyone have a solution for the problem?

Thank you,

Sergey

Hello Experts,

I have a computer company that offers the following services listed below. I plan on creating a business card with a design on both sides. The back side I want my logo big (just logo only) I attached my logo. The image that I attached will be for the back.

Services Offered:
Computer
Data
Web
Network

As for the front of the business card I know that I want my name, phone number, email address, website address and Facebook address. The problem that I can't seem to figure out is how do I mention the services that I offer on my business card? What is the best way to display the services? I don't want the business card to look cluttered. I'm looking for a CLEAN and PROFESSIONAL looking business card.

Thanks in advance,

I have a large photo that is landscape oriented. When I print on one letter size sheet the text is too small to read. And naturally the illustrations are quite small also. There are many illustrations and a lot of text. On landscape mode the pix is 10 inches wide and 6 inches tall. I wish to print the one image on two sheets in portrait mode then physically cut the printed images to form one portrait image on essentially a 17 inch by 11 inch piece of stitched paper. Can COREL DRAW do this?  EXPERTS??

I am trying to figure out how to make this shadow effect like on the attached image. I am an extreme novice using illustrator and can do a little better in Photoshop. I have already created the solid black tribal design in illustrator using paths and live paint. Now I need the white outline which then turns into a shadow that fades back to white again. Hope that is explained well. Not sure if this should be done in illustrator or photoshop.

Any direction would be great. Thanks in advance.

I've had to extract a logo embedded on a baseball cap and make it into a vector.  I used the Magnetic Lasso in Photoshop to cut out the lettering and placed the subsequent .psd I created into Illustrator.

I performed an image trace in Illustrator and selected the Silhouette preset so that I had a clear black and white logo that I could subsequently change the colour of.  I'm able to scale the placed image and it behaves like the vector I wanted it to be.

However, I can't change the colour of the silhouette image, it forms one complete layer and I would like the black elements to become pink #cc9999.

How can I select the letters on this logo and change the colours as required?

Many thanks in advance, file attached.

To clarify my question. As a screen printer I print each layer separately, and later all objects must be perfectly aligned. If anything moved without my knowledge I would have a very poor quality print. Many times I would click on a part of a graphic and it would move slightly and I would have to go back and hit undo move. Is there a way to lock and unlock all objects on a drawing so they don't move?

How can I select only the text by dragging the mouse over the text without selecting the objects behind (blue).

Someone sent me an Adobe Illustrator logo. It  has a background color that is reddish and I want to change it to black. I also want to place it in a header of a webpage and resize it.

I have Adobe Illustrator but am a complete novice to it.

Can someone tell me how to do these above two tasks (change fill color and resize the object)? I have attached the logo to this post by first changing the name of the file from Logo.ai to Logo.txt. You will have to change it back to Logo.ai after downloading it.

Thanks
Mark

In Illustrator, I've saved for web on the 2x image.  I then save for web and change the dimensions to 1/2 the size.  The 1/2 size image is actually larger.  How is that possible?

In Illustrator, I have an object and art board that produces a 1000px by 500px PNG when saved for web.

I want to save the file as a PNG but at half the size.  The end result will be a file that is 500px by 250px.

I know how to resize the art board by half.  But that doesn't resize the object on the art board.  Basically I need something like Photoshop's image size, which decreases everything.  What is the equivalent in Illustrator?

In Illustrator, I have three circles that are interlinked (visually).  I'd like to remove the inner paths so only the outside path show.  How is this done?

I'm planning to get an academic version.  This looks like the best price so far:

Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard
$447
http://www.studica.com/us/en/AdobeNonProfit/adobe-cs6-design-standard-non-profit/541292.html

Has anyone found better pricing for the academic?  Would be nice to get the suite that has After Effects and Premiere but I haven't found it.  If anyone has seen that at academic pricing, please post a link.

I'm still not clear on what exactly Adobe Cloud is or why someone would want it over desktop software.  Has anyone here used the Cloud version and can compare it to the desktop version?

I'll be using Photoshop, Illustrator and maybe InDesign.  Given how intense those programs are, it doesn't seem they'd work to well as cloud versions.

In Illustrator, I have a grouped object.  I'd like to place it in the middle of the art board.  Smart guides are enabled.  I don't see any guides appearing that shows I'm at the center.

The object paths are black.  The art board is white.  Is there something else I need to do to see smart guides?

Hi,

Here is a link to someone I know who can't draw a straight line. He managed to purchase software to do this, or else it is outsourcing. Any ideas, info, links?

Although some of the time remaining an illustrator file to .PDF will allow me to open it, other times the trick doesn't work.

Is there a free program available that will let me open Adobe illustrator files?  I only need to view the files and spending the exorbitant amount of money for illustrator seems unnecessary.

I have tried Irfanview without luck.

Would you know of a good program to do this?

Thank you,

John

I have created a logo in photoshop. I put a drop shadow on it. And when saved for the web, I make sure the Matte is "none" and it is transparent, I've tried to save as a PNG or as a GIF and on the save for web page, everything is wrapped in a white border and it saves with the white border.

How do I remove that white border and why is it there in the first place?

thanks!
