Illustration Software

Illustration software is distinguished from photo-editing software in that the result is an original construction, rather than the manipulation of a photograph. Illustration software uses vector-based tools such that the content is stored digitally as resolution-independent mathematical formulae describing lines (open paths), shapes (closed paths), and color fills, strokes or gradients. Vector paths are constructed of anchor points and path segments. Illustration tools typically create precise lines, shapes and patterns with well-defined edges and are superb for working with complex constructions such as maps and typography.

I wish to have a drawing that I can print out on two 8.5 x 11.0 inches and have them taped together to make one physical 8.5 x 22.0 inches. This drawing will be the basis for assembling an electrical wiring harness that will fit the project pre assembled and without a hassle.

The size of the end project is just fine at 8.5 x 22" but I wish to use the dimensional tool to illustrate in INCHES the various lengths. The actual length of the project is around 50 feet. I don't want a 50 foot blueprint obviously.How do I accomplish this so that the actual printout is the size I want BUT the dimensions show as inches or feet and inches or any unit that I know are representing inches?

My problem is trying to determine how to depict dimensions that are a great deal smaller than the actual printout will be. So, basically I need to know how to indicate to Corel the size of the drawing, the units I should use and really basic type questions. I obviously am far from proficient in Corel but simply do not have the time to learn Corel for this single mini project.

Please ask any questions you need to have answered for clarification.

I placed text with a white background on the image in Photoshop. Then I used the magic eraser to remove the white background.
But white remains within some letters, such as O and d.
Is there some quick way to remove the white from the letters?

Hi.

For background information, the initial requirements and my selected solution, you will need to refer to my previous question at:
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29021535/Strategy-for-developing-proprietary-project-information-on-a-secure-computer.html

From what I've understood so far, and from my further investigation, I will need to then upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for encryption and better control of whitelisting and blacklisting.

My additional requirements are:

Windows Pro upgrade.
Microsoft Office 365 subscription and a limited set of application software (TBD).
I want to eliminate all unnecessary pre-loaded application software and bloatware (when should I do this).
(I will avoid using admin account as default user account.)
I want easy control of whitelisting and blacklisting, hopefully, without needing a lot of additional technical knowledge.

With those additional requirements, today's question is:
Suggest the necessary implementation strategy with sequence of steps, and any other utility software that might be required.

Thank you,
WaterStreet

Hi.

I'm proposing a consulting engagement for a client with a proprietary project, which requires that I keep the project's work away from the Internet, due to confidentiality requirements.

I have two windows 10 computers (always updated) that I use on the Internet, and do not want to use any of them for this purpose. I'm thinking of buying a new laptop computer to be used exclusively for the new project.  I use McAfee Total Protection, Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, and Epic Privacy Browser (proxy mode) on the two computers connected to the Internet.

I'd prefer to use Microsoft Word and Excel, though I'm not attached to Microsoft products. I'll also need some specialty software (such as 3-D illustration software, and flowchart software), all of which I hope to load via CD/DVD, or transfer the downloaded installation files via flash drive from one of my online computers.

I will create, update, encrypt and store all the proprietary information files on flash drives that will never be inserted, if or when the new computer needs to connect to the Internet.

What what do you think of this strategy for keeping the proprietary project information secure?

Thanks

Hello, I'm trying to reproduce the text you see in the uploaded image.

This is the text I'd like to reproduce as closely as possible.
I can't find a font similar to this one and most of all I don't know how to create that sort of indent effect on the right of each letter.

The tools I have access to are Photoshop and Illustrator.

I hope somebody can help me.

Thanks.

I may be delusional, but I am facing an issue that I personally do not see as a fair policy regarding upgrades. Am I being scammed by a manufacturer or is this normal: I just purchased an upgrade from Coreldraw X7 to what was the new iteration of Coreldraw. X8 I have only had the product approximately two weeks. By chance I discovered that they JUST came  out with a new version: Coreldraw 2017. I phoned inquiring how I could get the latest version (free I expected) and was faced with a demand for $25.00 for a download key!! $25. to upgrade to a new version after only two weeks??? ?They additionally wanted $15. for a physical CD of the software which I did get with my new purchase. This, to me, seems like a very harsh money grubbing policy that came as a shock to me. I could certainly understand if I had used the product for even several weeks, but less than one month? Am I being ripped off by the manufacturer or is this a normal situation for software manufacturers? I naturally am extremely disappointed by what I am being told by the company. I have paid for EVERY upgrade to Coreldraw for the past 15 years or so and never faced this type of issue.

Just as an aside: I believe in paying for ALL the software that I use. I also realize that there are many hackers out in the world that do not pay for all the software that they use. I wonder what percentage of these hackers essentially steal the product solely due  to perceived outrageous and unfair policies such as I …

Just wanting to know if I can embed a YouTube video into an InDesign doc and if yes, how? :)

Thanks

In inDesign by holding command and clicking I can select the element behind the other. In illustrator I have to lock the top item to select the one below. It works but is time consuming and can become confusing. Anyone know a short cut?

I'm on a Mac running CS6. Thanks in advance.

I have a number of pngs of detailed photos such as the one attached with transparent backgrounds. I need to outline each one with a line around the perimeter of the photo that is a PATH. I can add a stroke effect to the PNG in Photoshop that looks correct, but because it is an effect it does not seem that I can convert that stroke to a path (I need the path for laser cutting). I have available to me and a working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Inkscape. The best solution would be in Inkscape if feasible since I hope to share the process with others who may not have access to Adobe software, but any (hopefully relatively straightforward) solution would do at this point.

I'm driving myself a bit nuts trying to do something that I think should be simple. Help! Please. Thanks so so much.

The artist made a whole bunch of pages. They aren't on individual artboards.

Notice the white rectangle. That's the only art board in there

When I "save as"  to PDF, I basically get only one blank page.

I'm using Illustrator CS6. I believe the artist did this in a previous version.

The artist was able to export this as a PDF, so I don't quite know what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for your help!

Using Notepad++ Version 6.4.5 is there a way to make the first character of each row of data an "Open Parenthesis" and the last 2 characters of each row a "Close Parenthesis" followed by a comma ?

In other words:

BEFORE

'   ABC Bank', '0180','PAYROLL'

AFTER

('   ABC Bank', '0180','PAYROLL'),

Hi, i have received a few graphics (vectors) from a graphic designer.

The graphics are the full size of the canvas in Illustrator.

I want to export the graphics to a certain height in .png format. Is this possible?

In Illustrator, I've resized my artboard to a final size. Now I need to resize everything inside the artboard. I want to highlight all of these elements and then drag the size up to a certain point. This means the elements need to stay proportional as I drag them.

The problem is that when I highlight all of the elements, the artboard keeps highlighting as well. How do I highlight just the elements so I can drag and resize them?

I'm trying to create a rope style brush in Illustrator. I'm following the tutorial at: http://vectorguru.com/tutorials/012-drawing-vector-rope-in-illustrator.html. I'm getting varying results. In one of my efforts the Pathfinder/Unite appears to work, but when I do an Object-->Path-->Outline Stroke, all three pieces get outlined. When I'm able to get by that part and apply the Pathfinder/Intersect, I lose all the strokes. Is there something wrong in the tutorial or, more likely, what might I be doing wrong? The attached file is how the project looks after Object-->Path-->Outline Stroke.

Have no idea how this happened.  I'm sure a wrong combination of F keys or other buttons were pressed.
I'm working on an artboard and colored shapes and then all of a sudden all colors are gone and just the black and white outline remains (see graphic)error.png

I'm want to be able to both drag and rotate an SVG object.  I have it working correctly - almost.   I'm using the .call(drag); on the object, where I have dragstarted, dragged, and dragended function.  I'm also using .attr("transform", "rotate(angle, x, y)"; to rotate the object.

Now from what I understand, rotate does not just rotate the object, but rotates the coordinate system and thus the object.  So, it I rotate an object say 180 degrees, the coordinate system of the object and that of the underlying canvas no longer align.  So now when I drag the rotated object, it does not go where I want it - the movement is exactly opposite.  If I drag up, it goes down, if I drag right, it goes left.  I'm using d3.event.x and d3.event.y to determine the coordinates of where the drag occurs, but these coordinates are in the underlying canvas coordinate system, and not the coordinate system of the rotated object.

How do I compensate for this behavior?

See code below.   I am drawing an arrow using two lines.  I need to be able to drag the arrow.    All three events fire for the star, but visually I cannot drag it.   I also would like a better way to draw an arrowhead based on where the mouse is clicked.   The two lines don't really do the job.

 What might be wrong?

 function DrawArrow(x, y, fillcolor) {

            var drag = d3.behavior.drag()
                      .on("dragstart", dragstarted)
                      .on("drag", dragged)
                      .on("dragend", dragended);

            var line1 = panCanvas.append("line")
                                .attr("x1", x)
                                .attr("y1", y)
                                .attr("x2", x+10)
                                .attr("y2", y+10)
                                .attr("stroke-width", 4)
                                .attr("stroke", fillcolor)
                                .call(drag);

            var line2 = panCanvas.append("line")
                               .attr("x1", x + 10)
                               .attr("y1", y + 10)
                               .attr("x2", x)
                               .attr("y2", y + 20)
                               .attr("stroke-width", 4)
                               .attr("stroke", fillcolor)
                               .call(drag);

            function dragstarted() {
                d3.event.sourceEvent.stopPropagation();

I've been using D3.  I have a project that uses a div as the "canvas", like below.  I have also download D3 examples that use the HTML canvas tag.   What's the difference?  They do not seem to be interchangeable.

 <div id="canvas" style="position:fixed;left:0px;top:0;" runat="server" > </div>

Hello Experts,

I purchased several icons from Noun Project. My problem is that some of the icons are of different size and layout. I would like to somehow make all vector icons the same size and save them as SVG's for my responsive website. But the original dimensions of the vector icons that I downloaded are all different size and layout. If i open them all up in Illustrator they have different dimensions, some are flush to the dartboard others have spacing around the icons. I would like to make them all one specific width/height so that they are all equal width/height. Is this possible?

I'm trying to cut out a part of an image, so that the top object will have a white outline around it. I can easily place a white filled object beneath it, but this part of t-shirt design that will be on different color t-shirts. How do I accomplish this, but still in a cleaner/simple way?What I want the spacing to look likeMy current (bad) solution
