Images and Photos

Photo and imaging software is used to edit and compose raster images; Adobe Photoshop, which dominates the market, has its own topic. Common actions include cropping, slicing, retouching, color replacement, masking and erasing. Other programs include Apple Photo, Corel PaintShop Pro, GIMP, Serif PhotoPlus, Pixlr, PhotoScape, Picasa and IrfanView.

I think there has been a problem with a Windows update and now various of my Windows 10 app tiles are showing as black square / rectangles (see screenshot) and will not launch.

If you click any of the icons there is a windows saying the app is updating and try again shortly.

I ran the Windows Store Troubleshooter and did a "reset" on the Photos app and now this is working correctly. There were many apps doing the same thing so I did a restore to a restore point before the problem appears - unfortunately the system restore failed.

I have tried running theWindows Store Troubleshooer again but now no problems are now found.

Can anyone suggest a solution please ?

I have a set of files that I am working with.  Some of the files have extensions (jpg, gif, png, etc.) and some do not.  Is it possible to determine the file extensions for the files that don’t have them?
I can see the crop marks in my word document but I also want to print them.
How can I get MS Word to print my crop marks.

ALSO, I want Word to stop prompting me for special paper and just use 8 1/2" x 11" paper.
Eventually I'll be sending this to the printer but for the time being I"m okay with this printing out on 8 1/2  x 11 paper.
Hello experts,

I need to convert more than 900 svg files into png or jpg.

I am looking for the best free or paid apps (no monthly subscription) to cover this need.

Could you please provide some advice.

Thank you for your help.
What would be 5 REALLY GOOD contrasting colors for a dark background.

Good in contrast & readability.

Somehow I was hoping there was a web tool that one could put in a background color, and a range of suitable contrasting colors would get generated.

Couldn't find anything for a SINGLE color as a starting point.

So, for the color

if you can offer a solid set of 5 colors with great contrast and readability, that's what I need.

If there's a formula for that, please share.

If there's a tool where one can enter a background color and a range of text colors is generated even better!

Like to change my Batch file from rename/stripping filename (today below) to copy the filename complete from an existing movie file (which can be .avi, .mov, .mp4) which always get dropped as pair in a folder under “Temp” before I move the JPEG-file away.

@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
set "sourcepath=C:\Temp"
set "folderpath=C:\master"

cd /d %sourcepath%
for /f %%a in ('dir /b "*.jpg"') do (
    set "fname=%%~na"
    ren "%%a" "!fname:~0,-9!.jpg"

for /F "delims=" %%a in ('dir /b /od "%sourcepath%\*.jpg"') do (
   set "youngest=%%a"
   move /y "%sourcepath%\!youngest!" "%folderpath%"

Example could be:
09010203.mp4 and test.jpg, where the JPEG should change filename to 09010203.jpg, before I move it.

rank—do you have any advice for opening a Mac Pages document on a PC?

The advice I see online says to use zip compression.  I followed all the steps but wound up with a JPEG document showing just the first page.  The article said the approach might not work, depending on the version of Pages, and apparently it didn’t.

The article says there are online converters, e.g. Zamzar.  Should I just do that?
Recently we went through the process of adding employee photos to AD.  The photos were all added with the CodeTwo Active Directory Photos tool and resized so all are under the 1MB limitation (most are around 40-50KB).

After adding the photos we are experiencing issues with the Outlook clients specifically:
- opening an email from coworkers > print > print screen and Outlook goes to "Not Responding"
- creating an email with other coworkers > save it as a draft > go to drafts folder and try to open email Outlook goes to "Not Responding"

I have done an exhaustive search and cannot find any info regarding these issues.

We are using:
- Exchange 2016
- Outlook 2013 clients
- Server 2008R2SP1 domain controllers

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
I took a picture of a screen for a manual I'm writing and the result showed a lot of odd dots and patterns (see below). How can I take a picture of this screen and NOT get this horrible rendition. Or is this something which can be easily fixed after-the-fact.
I created a png file and saved to my google drive - from a work email. I want to use the image as part of my google signiture in my settings. a friend of mine has thousands of pictures, scattered over his whole pc, and has up to 5 duplicate locations for the pictures in 3 different disk drives

i am looking for a good software to compare picture folders, so i can delete duplicate folders
please only post software you used and like; eventually with the proper settings -  and why you prefer it over others

best is free, but if needed, i'll pay for software with better options
I am looking for good quality software in order to make a slide show.  I am using Windows 10 as my operating system
The features in Windows 10 photos appear to be very rudimentary and very confusing.
Hi there!

How can I compress a bitmap without losing quality. I have a 1920 x 1080 background wallpaper with text that is currently 5-Mb, Ideally I would like it between 2-3Mb at 1920 x 1080.
This must be a .bmp file format. I am pretty good with Photoshop but could not find a way to compress the bitmap without losing quality.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many Thanks!

Before discarding an older XP computer I have transferred about 735 photos to a USB memory stick.
The photos are clearly visible on the XP machine as thumbnails.  However, when transferred to a memory stick
and the memory stick inserted into a relatively new Windows 10 computer I see the files but they are only showing
with a small icon so I cannot tell what each icon is without opening the file.  This would be extremely tedious.
Any ideas regarding what can be done?  Under properties it says the files are .jpg.
I'm forced to work on a legacy Access 2020 MDB application - and on my installation of Access 2010 I'm not able to import a .png or a .jpg file into an Image control.  I've done some research on the web and it appears that I need to install some Graphics Filters - if that is possible for Access 2010.  I cannot find the .png or the .jpg Graphics Filter files anywhere and I'm stumped as to how to expand my Access 2010 to work with png and jpg file formats.  I'd love some help here.  Thank you!
I am using an access database to handle scanning orders into folders as a PDF.

The scan function works great.  It drops the image into a local file as a jpg, no problem.
I open the jpg(s) in a report, which works.
I close the report, using acSaveYes, and this seems to be working correctly.
Where I run into issues (at least on the AccessRuntime side of things) is in this line

DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "rptScan", acFormatPDF, "C:\TempScan\Report.pdf"

In the Runtime environment, I frequently get a 2046 error, and it stops.

If we rerun the process (sometimes multiple times) it goes through with the exact same results.

I added in a statement to try to get around this, by having it loop back to the portion of the code above in the Handle_err

    Select Case Err.Number
        Case 2046
            GoTo StartPDFConversion:  {the line above}
    End Select

Rather than loop, its still coming up with the 2046 error.

I am using RT2013 as I was seeing too many bugs with RT2016.

Is there a better way to force a retry of the PDF outputting code so that it just retries again?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After running the Google PageSpeed Insights several times, one of the first things I get "dinged" on is "Serve images in next-gen formats".

I read the directions: I took the image into Photoshop and saved as JPEG 2000 but when I replace that image in my HTML, no images show. This is true for both my local machine and in Production.

Aside from:

  1. Changing the File format from .jpg to .jpf (in Photoshop)
  2. Replacing the HTML (e.g. image2.jpf)

Is there something I am missing?

Thanks for your help.

Can an iPhone 11 take a photo every second or two?

I want a high resolution photo from a stream of facial expressions, but find a video to be "lossy". So, I want highest resolution image, that of a still shot.

Can I time the camera to "push the shutter" every second?

iPhone 11 does not take High Resolution videos?

I have an iPhone 11 and take a video of myself with the back side of the phone, with 3+ cameras on it.

Record Rate: 4K at 60 fps
Record Slo-mo: 1080p at 240 fps
Camera Capture: High Efficiency

I take the video, then use Adobe Premiere to Export Frame.

The PNG I create looks blurry.

What am I doing wrong?

When I select small icons in the view tab of my pictures folder to view my pictures all I see is a listing of the photos Unlike the other 3 options Medium, Large, and Extra Large which display the pictures as it suppose to do. Why is this happening? How can this be fixed?

Thank you,

A client was having a Samsung S8 mobile phone, and he used SD encryption to encrypt the photos and media he has. Accidentally the phone was broken and is no longer working, so he bought a Samsung S9 mobile. When he put the SD card, the media are encrypted. The old phone (S8) is not working so we can decrypt the SD on the phone.

Any ideas on how to decrypt the SD card to work in S9?

I have a BLOB field in a table that has a photo stored in it.  There are 7 million rows and the table size is 490 GB.

We recently made changes to the system to store the photos on a file share instead and have the table hold a URL to that photo instead of the photo itself.

The developers re-purposed the BLOB field to hold the URL instead of creating a new VARCHAR field to do that.

I had assumed that the table size would shrink as the photos were replaced but so far we have replace 2.5 million photos with URL and I don't see any changes in the table size or the tablespace.

Is there a minimum  size that a BLOB will not go below?  Or do I have to REORG the table in order to see a change?

My Dad passed recently and I have a ton of videos he took of our family vacations to Florida mostly, but he also took video of local trips to see the Tall Ships, tailgating for The World Cup, family birthday parties for my nephews/nieces, graduations, etc.. Most of them begin and end with footage of him turning his camcorder on and then off with the camera pointed to the ground.  I'd like to create a Microsoft Access database that trims the first few seconds and the last few seconds from all videos contained in a certain folder on my hard drive.  All videos are now in MP4 format and the folder path will be populated in a textbox named txtFloridaTrips.  Can anyone assist in providing some code?

So far I've been doing these edits manually in the Microsoft Photos app and after two weeks I'm only through 10 percent of the videos so I'd really like to expedite the process.
2D Grid Mock-Up

This concept contains an outdoor asphalt court area surrounded by grass, that could double as an area for people to gather, eat healthily, engage in commerce, etc.

The total asphalt surface should be 40' x 64' with court boundaries drawn in the center at 20' x 44'. The 10'  area around the drawn court boundaries could contain square tables strung together as well as separately and the area surrounding the asphalt surface would be grassy and could show people sitting in the grass.

I started this project by trying to mock it up using a 3d tool such as sketchup.com. What I liked about this approach was that I could make further edits using that tool as well as hand-off harder edits to others. It would all be online this way thus preventing the need to upload and download file changes.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get past even the smallest of hurdles using that and so assistance ether finding the right tool or getting this started in some way would be greatly appreciated.
