My boss has a new iPhone8. I've set him up to access the IMAP server at the office. Inbox works just fine and he can send messages. The problem is that the Sent and Trash folder on the iPhone do no synchronize with the server. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem since I've found lots of posts about it. However, none of the instructions I've found so far seem to work. How do I do this?

The mail server is Dovecot IMAP. The iPhone is using the normal mail facility, nothing special or 3rd party. The selected server setup is 'Other'. Inbox synchronization works. Messages deleted on the iPhone, and sent messages are not synchronized with the corresponding folders on the IMAP server.

How can I disable the Gmail email account security alerts?

An organization I am consulting for had their Veeam backup email alerts setup using a single Gmail email account that accesses this Gmail account using the SMTP email protocol.

The Veeam backup program on 40 Windows computers sends alerts to this Gmail email address everytime that the Veeam backup succeeds, fails, or has any issues.

These users often travel with their laptops and I am constantly receiving Gmail security alerts related to this email account.

So is there any way that I can disable the Gmail email account security alerts for this Gmail email account?
Our outlook started this morning downloading old 2014, 2015, 2016, etc. emails, over 3gb of data.  The account is an AOL account.  We have the same account in another computer also with outlook 2010 that is always on for the purpose of maintaining a copy of the AOL email.  The curious thing is that THAT outlook is not receiving old emails, it's working fine.  

What can be happening and how can we stop it?

My wife had her Gmail account hacked some time ago. Google admin shut down the account for a couple weeks before reinstating it. They restored the account after she proved it was her account.

When her account was restored though, it now forces 95% all incoming mail to the "trash" even though it is from trusted emails and replies to her emails.  She uses Safari browser.
On an iphone that's being retired. Wife had pop account.  So sent mail from the phone is only on the iphone in the sent folder.  Doesn't come off with backups, right?

She wants to save those sent emails.

I was looking at 1 way - setup icloud email account on the phone. then i go into the pop account's sent folder.  chose edit, check 1 then move... choose the icloud inbox and it seems to go (graphic shows it dropping into that folder).  And it is not in the sent folder of the pop account anymore.

But it doesn't show in icloud account.

What am I doing wrong?  Is there a way to get those sent items back into the pop sent account?

Our Proofpoint support expired so I can't open a ticket with them.  We are using Proofpoint Protection Server

I am trying to obtain the outbound mail stats in Proofpoint  using the reports feature for Category = Firewall, Data Options Reports for Route = Outbound and keep getting 0 for results no matter what combination in the reports I use. I have also tried using the instructions here 
and do not obtain any results.

The admin told me there is not a canned report for this, but I'm wondering if we don't have something set up in the configuration to parse the logs to see outbound traffic.

Any thoughts on either how to fix it so I can obtain results from the reporting or UI Stats, or another way for me to obtain the outbound mail stats?

We plan to create a Microsoft account to use with Windows Whiteboard and Cortana.

We already have a Gmail account.

The plan is that we create a Microsoft account using our Gmail account.

Before doing this, we would like to know if we will miss out if we make a new Microsoft account with Gmail rather than Hotmail or Outlook.

We would like to know:
1. If we create a new Microsoft account via our Gmail account, can we access our old Gmail emails when logged in with Microsoft account
2. Is there any advantages/ disadvantages to creating a Microsoft account with a Gmail account over a new one which would be through Hotmail or Outlook
3. Will we miss out on any features if we create a Microsoft account with a Gmail account

I have a user with no unity mailbox but gets the mailbox quota message "Your voice mailbox has exceeded the quota warning threshold specified by your administrator." On January 8, the user asked their assistant to help them get rid of all the spam and unsolicited email in their inbox.  

As soon as they looked in the Inbox, they noticed that there were only 350 or so messages in the Inbox, where they recall that there is normally over 8000. There are no more messages prior to November 2017. On that same day, they looked on  Google for gmail support, and reached a company that claimed that they could retrieve 3800 emails for them if they gave them my their card number.  The user was suspicious and didn't do this.  

Today, January 13, I was looking with them.  We went into Gmail settings and displayed the trash folder.  There were not a lot of deleted messages.  When we show ALL MAIL, more shows up, but the count includes only 350 for the inbox, and the rest appears to be normal sent mail.  

The user definitely is missing thousands of past emails.

How can we get these back?

A Yahoo user has reported that ever since the Yahoo website change around Christmas he has lost all of his contacts and notes.

I have verified that his contacts and notes are both empty.

What do we need to do to get his contacts and notes back within Yahoo? He reports that he has 10 years worth of data stored within the Yahoo contacts and notes and we can't afford to loose this data.
Yahoo recently changed their website layout and now several of my customers are unable to locate their Notes & Contacts within the new website.

Where have these things gone or what is the process to locate them?
When we get a suspicious email, we make a copy of the headers and then look for questionable email addresses and ip addresses in the route.  If we find something we think is a spam source, we block the incoming email address and ip address as needed.  Now I'm questioning that practice.

Here's why.  If you look at the portion of the header below, the email went through a server named VULTR-GUEST.local at ip  Checking the ip, it's registered to a server in Frankfurt Germany - not what we expect.  BUT, my question is, it left that server and went through a couple more registered to (Office365 I assume) before finally delivered to our mail server.  

Does it matter that the path took it through that German server, or is the last server before delivery to our system the only one we need to look at and be concerned about?

My home Wi-Fi can't access certain websites and would forever load until it throws up an error state. When I'm connected via ethernet, it works fine, so I know the Wi-Fi has issues. I also want to add that my printer normally prints via Wi-Fi and lately it hasn't been connecting. I'm having to hardwire my printer to my Macbook.

  • The devices I'm using are Macbook and Android phone.
  • This problem started roughly three months ago. No changes have been made to my Wi-Fi (that I know of).
  • I tried changing the DNS. It worked for a day but now the problem continues to exist.
  • I've reset the modem/router.
  • I've tried accessing aforementioned websites on different browsers. Same problem.

I am informed by Mimecast that there are 3rd party tools and providers on the web that allow Admins to migrate their Archive and Journal data from Veritas Enterprise Vault to Mimecast. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using such tools and where I would be able to obtain them from? We are not in a position to pay a provider to do this and would need to get this done ourselves. (A learning curve for future reference so 3rd party applications would be required).

In future we will be paying Mimecast to do all this for us unless there is a good solution out there?

I have a user using Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2016 (the Office 365 version).  The user sends-and-receives a considerable amount of e-mail, and as a result we have been separating the archived mail into separate PST files for each year.

Thus, for example, the user has the following folders in Outlook:
    (the Exchange mailbox)
*Current archive (PST file)
*Archive 2016 (PST file)
*Archive 2015 (PST file)
*Archive 2008 (PST file)

(Each of these PST files is upwards of 10 GB in size.)

Recently, when applying the AutoArchive settings through Options - Advanced - AutoArchive window, Outlook has sometimes applied the AutoArchive settings to *ALL OF THE PST FILES* (except the Current Archives PST file).

Each of the PST files has at least a HUNDRED subfolders under the Inbox.  

The problem is that there appears to be no way to bulk-modify the PST file settings to stop Outlook from attempting to archive the contents in old PST files (e.g. Archive 2008) to the Current Archives PST file.

E.g. Outlook will archive not only the contents of the Exchange mailbox but also the old content in the Archive 2008 PST file, Archive 2009 PST file, etc. up to the Archive 2016 PST file and move it to the corresponding folder in the Current Archive PST file.

Have any other Experts Exchange members encountered a situation similar to this?

I would appreciate any advice on how to both bulk-modify Outlook PST…

we have an office in Hong Kong and really struggling with internet connectivity/download speeds.
The hong kong IT support company have ran speeds test which come back at 80mbps, but now i have got involved as they are struggling with sending/recieving emails.

we run hosted exchange 2013 system through cobweb, i believe their serves are located in London/Europe.

i've asked the question what type of internet line they have...
also i've logged in ran my own speed tests....

running it within hong kong produces 80mb download/upload speeds with low ping rate.
if i select a different server e.g. London or USA download/upload speeds are reduced to around 10mbps with high ping rates of 350 plus

do you think this could be the issue why having issues sending/recieving emails?

Or to import the pop3 or imap calendar to gmail account?
I do not want to see the label "Zen Archives" when using email in the Gmail App on my android.  In my Gmail account under Gmail > Settings > Labels, I have un-selected "Show in IMAP". Why does the label continue to appear on my phone? That label does contain nested labels, but the IMAP settings for those labels is also unchecked. IMAP is enabled. I have restarted my phone multiple times.  Please advise.
We are an Microsoft Exchange environment .  We use Active sync to sync our 80 devices (iphones and Samsung galaxies) with exchange, Periodically ( 2 or 3 times a year ) I would delete/cleanup old  c$\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1 and also the W3SVC2 and W3SVC3 folders. They would have a tremendous amount of files and each file could be 30 MB or so.
Now in those folders the files are over 300 MB each and I have to cleanup these folders monthly.
I understand these are log files,  Is my exchange server a problem ? or are some of the smartphones having problems ?
What can I look at to see why these files have now grown 10 times what they were.

I have been asked to provide a solution to track users internet usage and block some websites.

My first thought was a proxy "device", I could lock down the machines via GPO point them to the proxy and then have a bit of software reporting on all usage.

I have the ability to either go for a device that would do this or I could spin up a VM to house the software.

Would anyone be able to recommend something that I could use?

We seem to be having an issue with IE 11 retaining cookies on websites listed in the favorites.  We have IE 11 settings configured to delete browsing history on exit.  We also have the setting check marked to Preserve Favorites website data.  We have one particular website that we know of that requires cookies to be present to not prompt for security questions on login.  Our users are continually getting prompted for these questions on computers that should be retaining cookies and not prompting them.  Has anyone seen this issue and have a way to make it work correctly?  Thanks
