Internet / Email Software

An email client, email reader or more formally mail user agent (MUA) is a computer program used to access and manage a user's email. A web application that provides message management, composition, and reception functions is sometimes also considered an email client, but more commonly referred to as webmail.

The user reads their email on Mac, using Safari, and by going to gmail.com

On January 8, the user asked their assistant to help them get rid of all the spam and unsolicited email in their inbox.

As soon as they looked in the Inbox, they noticed that there were only 350 or so messages in the Inbox, where they recall that there is normally over 8000. There are no more messages prior to November 2017. On that same day, they looked on  Google for gmail support, and reached a company that claimed that they could retrieve 3800 emails for them if they gave them my their card number.  The user was suspicious and didn't do this.

Today, January 13, I was looking with them.  We went into Gmail settings and displayed the trash folder.  There were not a lot of deleted messages.  When we show ALL MAIL, more shows up, but the count includes only 350 for the inbox, and the rest appears to be normal sent mail.

The user definitely is missing thousands of past emails.

How can we get these back?

Thanks.

[Webinar] Database Backup and Recovery

Does your company store data on premises, off site, in the cloud, or a combination of these? If you answered “yes”, you need a data backup recovery plan that fits each and every platform. Watch now as as Percona teaches us how to build agile data backup recovery plan.

When we get a suspicious email, we make a copy of the headers and then look for questionable email addresses and ip addresses in the route.  If we find something we think is a spam source, we block the incoming email address and ip address as needed.  Now I'm questioning that practice.

Here's why.  If you look at the portion of the header below, the email went through a server named VULTR-GUEST.local at ip 209.250.235.52.  Checking the ip, it's registered to a server in Frankfurt Germany - not what we expect.  BUT, my question is, it left that server and went through a couple more registered to outlook.com (Office365 I assume) before finally delivered to our mail server.

Does it matter that the path took it through that German server, or is the last server before delivery to our system the only one we need to look at and be concerned about?

Here's a little of the middle portion of the header:

My home Wi-Fi can't access certain websites and would forever load until it throws up an error state. When I'm connected via ethernet, it works fine, so I know the Wi-Fi has issues. I also want to add that my printer normally prints via Wi-Fi and lately it hasn't been connecting. I'm having to hardwire my printer to my Macbook.

Notes:
  • The devices I'm using are Macbook and Android phone.
  • This problem started roughly three months ago. No changes have been made to my Wi-Fi (that I know of).
  • I tried changing the DNS. It worked for a day but now the problem continues to exist.
  • I've reset the modem/router.
  • I've tried accessing aforementioned websites on different browsers. Same problem.

I do not want to see the label "Zen Archives" when using email in the Gmail App on my android.  In my Gmail account under Gmail > Settings > Labels, I have un-selected "Show in IMAP". Why does the label continue to appear on my phone? That label does contain nested labels, but the IMAP settings for those labels is also unchecked. IMAP is enabled. I have restarted my phone multiple times.  Please advise.

We are an Microsoft Exchange environment .  We use Active sync to sync our 80 devices (iphones and Samsung galaxies) with exchange, Periodically ( 2 or 3 times a year ) I would delete/cleanup old  c$\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1 and also the W3SVC2 and W3SVC3 folders. They would have a tremendous amount of files and each file could be 30 MB or so.
Now in those folders the files are over 300 MB each and I have to cleanup these folders monthly.
I understand these are log files,  Is my exchange server a problem ? or are some of the smartphones having problems ?
What can I look at to see why these files have now grown 10 times what they were.

Any info is appreciated

Hi all,

I have been asked to provide a solution to track users internet usage and block some websites.

My first thought was a proxy "device", I could lock down the machines via GPO point them to the proxy and then have a bit of software reporting on all usage.

I have the ability to either go for a device that would do this or I could spin up a VM to house the software.

Would anyone be able to recommend something that I could use?

Thanks in advance

We seem to be having an issue with IE 11 retaining cookies on websites listed in the favorites.  We have IE 11 settings configured to delete browsing history on exit.  We also have the setting check marked to Preserve Favorites website data.  We have one particular website that we know of that requires cookies to be present to not prompt for security questions on login.  Our users are continually getting prompted for these questions on computers that should be retaining cookies and not prompting them.  Has anyone seen this issue and have a way to make it work correctly?  Thanks

I find myself in a remote northern community with no road access except for a few weeks over the ice during the winter.  Oxford House, Manitoba, Canada.

I just purchased a new satellite dish from Xplornet which promised me 5 Mbps.  Unfortunately, the most I've ever seen is 1.2 Mbps, early in the morning.  Late in the afternoon, it degrades to 500 Kbps or less.  I'm paying $100 per month for this service.  The technician at Xplornet explains that the slow speed is a function of how many people in the community are using the service during the day.  Really?  I'm sharing the service with the whole community?  (It's a community of 3,000).

My neighbour has a business service.  He's paying $2500 per month, and he's getting 9 Mbps.  I have been told that his service (from a company called Galaxy) uses a very different technology.

Does anybody know what is the bottleneck with remote satellite Internet service, and are there any options between $100 per month and $2500 per month?  I'm the IT guy and I'm supposed to understand how this stuff works.

Thanks

Hello Everyone.

This is the situation:

I will receive emails from a specific address that will always be the same
for example specific@specific.com

This emails will always have the subject box containing another email address that will always be different
for example different@different.com

The body of this emails will always have the same lines but with different informations. Those informations will be

Name
Address
Price

What I need is:

A VB script that provides me an Autoreply of the email I receive from specific@specific.com to the address contained in the subject box with a standard subject line that could be for example "thank you"

Said this, the body of the reply, needs to be a dynamic template that will autofill with the data contained in the body of the first email I receive.

EXAMPLE

EMAIL RECEIVED
Sender = specific@specific.com
Subject = dynamic@dynamic.com
Body = name - dynamic
            address - Italy
            price - 50

EMAIL AUTOFORWARDED
Recipient = dynamic@dynamic.com
Subject = thank you
Body = hello dynamic thanks for your order you will receive it in Italy after paying 50

I'm not familiar with VB
Could anyone lend a hand with the code needed to achieve this?

thank you all

bye bye :)

We have isolated all spam delivery possibilities and considered the factors of ip reputation,  domain reputation and clean list i,e only opted-in contacts and also used the email validation tool and considered the cleansed ones for the campaign, with all done still emails for our existing customers and promotional emails getting delivered to the spam,
1. Now I strongly feel it could be email content could be the reasons , can you please let us know the best practice email content , words or sentence, list of those keywords not to be used, so that will prepare the content accordingly.
2. some say complete image would be good and some say combination.

Hi All,

Can anyone here please assist me in troubleshooting as to why my Outlook Web Access is randomly signing me off while reading or typing email ?

I also cannot access the below OWA option with HTTP ERROR 500:
Change OWA Account settings: https://owa.domain.com/ecp/?rfr=owa&owaparam=modurl%3D0&p=account
Change AD Password: https://owa.domain.com/ecp/?rfr=owa&owaparam=modurl%3D0&p=PersonalSettings/Password.aspx
Enable OWA Add On: https://owa.domain.com/ecp/?rfr=owa&owaparam=modurl%3D0&p=installed

However, when I manually type in the Public IP address or the server name instead of owa.domain.com, I can access the server with no problem.

This is my current deployment of the Exchange Server 2013 Standard Edition in my domain:

AD Site: Default-First-Site-Name
PRODMAIL14.domain.com [old CAS & MBX server]
PRODMAIL20-VM.domain.com [new CAS & MBX server]

AD Site: Head_Office
PRODMAIL42-VM.domain.com [CAS & MBX server]
PRODMAIL30-VM.domain.com [MBX server]

I have just created multiple A Record for OWA.domain.com and Autodiscover.domain.com pointing to my existing 3x CAS-MBX Exchange 2013 server roles.

Public DNS (A) records Round Robin:
OWA.domain.com – Public IP address of PRODMAIL14, PRODMAIL20-VM and PRODMAIL42-VM
Autodiscover.domain.com – Public IP address of PRODMAIL14, PRODMAIL20-VM and PRODMAIL42-VM

Internal DNS (A) records Round Robin:
OWA.domain.com – Public IP address of PRODMAIL14, PRODMAIL20-VM and PRODMAIL42-VM
Autodiscover

What do you consider the best Internet email option (POP3 or IMAP) for individual use? Why - what makes it good and what are its limitations?

Background:

We have been using mostly Verizon.net email. Recently Verizon transferred their email to AOL although we kept the same verizon.net email addresses. Service has deteriorated, especially for accessing email through a smartphone and the AT&T cellular network. Access through Outlook has not deteriorated as much although day-long outages have occurred.

We have personal Gmail and could switch to those although the lack of privacy from Google's practice of scanning content is annoying. We're willing to pay for a good email service. One possibility is Google's G-Suite although we would only use it for email and not use the other functions.

What do you think are the best email providers, including paid options? What are their strengths and limitations?

Thanks,
Pete

Is it impractical to use Verizon/AOL email from a SmartPhone through the AT&T cellular network, and do I therefore need to abandon my verizon.net email account?

Background:

I have two main email accounts - @verizon.net and @gmail.com. Since Verizon ported me over to AOL (while maintaining my verizon.net address) accessing my verizon.net email with my phone is problematic through a cellular connection. This was the case when I was an AT&T customer and is still the case when I am a Consumer Cellular customer accessing the AT&T network.

Frequently, the verizon.net email frequently cannot make the connection to the server from my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone using the cellular connection. This may happen a few times or even 20 times, and then a connection is made and email is received and sent.

The Verizon.net email works fine on the same phone through WiFi. The Gmail account works fine through both WiFi and cellular. Both accounts work fine through my Windows desktop computer.

The problem happened with the email account configured as POP3 and still occurs with the account reconfigured as IMAP. I use an SSL connection although I had the same problem using no encryption.

I see many mentions of this on the web. It seems widely attributed to incompatibilities between the AT&T, especially when accessed through a bulk provider such as Consumer Cellular, and AOL.

Is this the case? Is my only practical choice to stop using the verizon.net email address?

Thanks,

Looking to confirm

We have win 7 64bit (imaged ) and when I go to start and search for IE. I see  two IE's  & one IE No Add-one.
But don't see IE (64 -bit)
One of the two IE's points to
\program files\
And the other
\program files (x86)\
But when I open task mgr both show iexplorer.exe *32

So how do I know for sure if I'm using 64 bit instead of 32 bit????
