IT Administration is the processes and best practices for programming and development, and incorporates methodologies for managing activities and projects. Common methodologies include waterfall, prototyping, iterative and incremental development, spiral development, rapid application development, extreme programming and various types of agile methodology. The life-cycle "model" is a more general term for a category of methodologies, and a software development "process" a more specific term to refer to a specific process chosen by a specific organization.

Is there a way to make Applocker work on Win 7 Professional & Win 10 Professional?
Is this a technical constraint or a paper license issue?

If technically it's not feasible, any apps whitelisting freewares to recommend?

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 blurry screen
Research: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-pro-4-display-520-graphics-flicker-blurry/4cd65b6b-6fc3-4506-87f6-102b21491f27 and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3025083/windows-scaling-issues-for-high-dpi-devices
Recommendation: Execute Microsoft Surface diagnostic tool to see if that correct the problem

The Microsoft Store representative said to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 but that did not work.

The problem appear to happen when the Surface is hot.

I'm looking for a good way to periodically update the password for a local admin on the Macs across the enterprise. We have a local user created as a backup in case there are issues. We want to change that password every few months in case someone gets a hold of it.

I have a non technical it contracting related issue and I know this isn't really the place but maybe someone can suggest another forum. I was working for an IT contracting firm, initials are "RH", and I was release from an assignment for no reason in bad faith. Anyone know of who I would contact to negotiate a resolution? I just want to work again. That's all.

thank you

We have enabled automatic updates on a few machines in our company but the automatic udate don't seem to work. Furthermore when we force the update we get a mesage saying that the machine is up to date but in fact it is not since the version on the machine is1803 (build 9126.2315). I have attached a screen shot of the current version on my machine machine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi All,
I have been asked to setup web filtering on our firewall in hopes of eradicating our Symantec web filtering. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do this or what my first steps should be?

I had this question after viewing NAS drive recommendation.

I'm looking for NAS recommendations. We currently have 2 Seagate NAS OS 4 NASes. They work quite well as long as they are on the same site we are backing up data from. However, we had one at a remote site so we could use it for offsite storage. However, we ran into an issue with the NAS throttling down during transfer. This would cause the transfer to take to long to complete. I wanted to buy another one but want to make sure not to run into the same issue.

Which NAS do you recommend? We will be looking to purchase one that will hold at least 8TB's of data and use Raid 6.

Hi guys

I got the ITIL foundation 2011 a while ago. I'd like to do the practitioner exam now. However, I can't find anything here that says whether I can now take the latest ITIL practitioner based on the 2011 foundation I have?

Does anybody here know whether I would have to take the foundation again?

Cheers
Yash

We have experienced organic growth within our environment for graphical rendering type use cases.  We have about 12 users that have a requirement for cpu intensive or gpu intensive workloads.  At the moment we have purchased high spec'd machines which they use locally.  Im looking at future growth and wondering what the next step up in architecture would look like.  When would we reach the tipping point in terms of price and value to moving to a more enterprise approach.

The programs we use are:
Rhino,
3DS Max
Cinema 4
Corona
Archicad
Revit LT
SKetchup Pro
Creo with Windchill

Hello Experts - I'm on the search for simple to setup and use helpdesk software, preferably not too expensive and able to accommodate about 80 users with one admin.  Ideally a person who needs help could just send an email to something like helpdesk@domain.com which will automatically open a ticket.  I don't need it to do inventory or anything other than track helpdesk requests and maybe do some very basic reporting like the number of tickets closed in a year.  Any recommendations?

Hello Experts - I'm thinking of hiring a part time helpdesk person to assist me with some basic IT stuff like installing software, answering helpdesk calls etc.  I'm not sure what hourly compensation would be fair for someone who is relatively inexperienced, maybe just out of school, and doing this maybe 20 hours per week.  This would be in an architectural office near Trenton NJ.  Would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

This one always frustrate me.  Simple command to see all the domain or forest details. And it doesn't show the list all the servers or sites.
For example: Get-ADDomain | Format-List
Gives me
ReplicaDirectoryServers            : {server1.company.com, server2.company.com, server3.company.com, server4.company.com...}   how to get all servers?

Same for this:  Get-ADForest | Format-List

Gives me:
GlobalCatalogs        : {server1.company.com, server2.company.com, server3.company.com, server4.company.com...}  how to get all servers?
Sites                 : {site1, site2, site3, site4...} how to get all sites?

I'm probably missing something very simple.  Just annoying issue!

How can I use procexp64  to tell  WHEN a specific window was opened?

For example

At 10:00 AM I open MS Word Test.docx and it is the only window open.
At 10:05 AM I customize Word's Quick Access Toolbar by taking the "More Commands" option which opens a second "Word Options" window with bunches of choices that are not related to this question.

ProcExp64 has a "Find Window's Process" tool which is a circular icon that I call the "magic bullseye".

I drag the bullseye over the Test.Docx window and see the process is WINWORD.EXE with PID =6160
But, I drag the bullseye over the Word Options window, and I see the the same PID=6160.

Is there anyway to get ProcExp to give me the time each of the two windows were first opened?

I am trying to get better at using procexp, so do not give me answers that are specific to the  MS Word example.  I want answers that apply to multiple applications.

And, if ProcExp cannot do what I want, are there other spy tools that can?

P.S.  Recently I have been troubleshooting an annoying problem.  At night I close my laptop lid but the computer keeps running.  In the morning there is a message that popped up. It would be very useful to know when the message first appeared. But, this EE question  should focus entirely on the general question "when did a window first open?" .

Does anyone have a quick reference on CORE 2016 installation?  Quick steps involved.  Just want to make sure all my CORE DCs are all the same build.

Hey guys,
We are considering to provision all our Domain Controllers as CORE edition servers 2016.   Wondering on others experience from manageability standpoint.
How do you guys manage it.  Say you need ADUC, DNS, DHCP, AD Sites-services, etc, etc.
I'm thinking to have at least one Regular Domain Controller with GUI interface.  Others are OK to have CORE.  Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

What is the reason for multiple BAD_ADDRESS in DHCP?  Description - This address is already in use.  I deleted them already few days back.  They came back for some reason.  About eight of them.
And it seems they show up after a an abrupt power outage we had.  Not sure if related.

Server 2016 Domain Controller.

Any recommendation on how to fix manually created connection in AD Sites and Services?  All my connections are automatically generated.  One however, created manually for known reasons.  I don't want to remove it in case it breaks something.   How would you normally fix that.   I want all connection sites to be healthy auto-generated.
Ideas?
Thank you!!
