IT Administration is the processes and best practices for programming and development, and incorporates methodologies for managing activities and projects. Common methodologies include waterfall, prototyping, iterative and incremental development, spiral development, rapid application development, extreme programming and various types of agile methodology. The life-cycle "model" is a more general term for a category of methodologies, and a software development "process" a more specific term to refer to a specific process chosen by a specific organization.

I have a set of three Cisco 3500XL's that are OLD and in place here at my office. The previous IT admin here retired and moved to Florida some 5 years ago. The Switches as far as i can tell are from 1997. (Manufacturers date) and have not been rebooted since 2001. I need to gain access into the enable on the switches, no one here knows what the passwords are for the enable, i know about 10 years ago i had a friend that knew a way to get into them without blowing away the configuration. I would like the ability to do the same, i have physical access to them, and they are being replaced with new juniper 1GB POE switches, but i would like to continue to use them on our test network.

So the questions is?:
1. Can i access enable without hard resetting them? how?
2. Can i hard reset them to access enable without wiping the CISCO IOS?

They are far from under warranty..

We're planning on moving to Exchange 2013 SP1. From all the information I could find, it seems that the Edge Transport role is to be placed in the perimeter network for incoming SMTP traffic. My question is, let's say the CAS role (along with the Mailbox Server role) resides on our internal network - do Outlook 2010/2013 users that connect to our organization from the outside do so through the Edge Transport server, or would they connect directly to our internal corporate LAN where the CAS is hosted?

And if they connect directly to out internal corporate LAN where our CAS is hosted, is there a way to force that traffic instead to go through the Edge Tranport server first, or would the CAS role also have to be installed on our perimeter network for this to work?

Basically, we would prefer that any traffic coming through the outside goes through our DMZ first. We would like to avoid having to open any port to our corporate LAN. I really appreciate any insight someone could offer into this. Thanks.

In the web interface, there is an option to set a server list that appeared to be what is 'allowed' .. we entered our 2 subnets as:

192.168.1.0/24
192.168.2.0/24

After 'submitting' for a long time, we attempted to reopen the web config interface, and can get no response.  The printer pings at the same address, but we can't access the web interface, and it will not print submitted documents.  We have power cycled, reset factory settings (which to my understanding does not reset the network settings).  Is there a way to COMPLETELY reset this device, a hard reset, any ideas?

Thank you

I have seen Citrix Gotoassist used by Helpdesk in some companies I have visited, and would like to use it in my company.

I need to know if GotoAssist requires a Server to install it on ? and how do you set it up and configure it so that HelpDesk users can start using it?

I have also realized that there are GotoAssist and GotoAssist Expert versions, what is the difference ?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you

I'm using the default backup program on SuSE 13.1 - which appears to be Duplicity based. I'm backing up a directory of about 250GB (GIG!) and duplicity is creating a new ...

duplicity-inc.20141213T125204Z.to.20141213T130648Z.vol1.difftar.gz

...file EVERY 26.2 MB (MEG!)

At this rate I'm going to have 700 billion files.

I can't find a config file where I can change this to a more reasonable value.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am after a helpdesk for approx. 10 people who will be using it.

It needs to have the following

1. be onsite not cloud based
2. email to ticket functionality.
3. Assign calls to staff but if they don't complete the call by the end of the day for them to put notes in for any user to pick up the next day.
4. emails to be sent in and out and it updates each ticket.

I don't mind spending money on this but it is only for 10 people. I have looked at zoho and this is great but cloud based only ? any thoughts ?

Thanks

Customer who currently has no internet access in her house.

She is a single mother and has challenges in getting and maintaining a commitment for internet use from two teenage kids aged 13 and 17.

She wants a solution where the internet will only work for  1 hour per night, say between 8:30pm and 9:30pm, when all the home work is done, but before the go to bed.

1.      Advice on a broadband solution ( money is tight and as she is only using it for an hour per day, and is a single mom, it would be  nice to help her with a low cost solution.)

2.      Advice on a one hour timing solution.

      A.      Then when the internet is installed, hide the wireless modem router in the attic so that the kids can’t figure out how things are working a go changing the settings below

     B.      Run a power extension lead into the attic.

     C.      Insert a Mechanic Control Timer  (a simple devices that plugs into wall outlets and control the power to whatever device is plugged into it) into the power extension lead

      D.      Set the Mechanic Control Timer  to run the device that is connected to it ( the Router in this case) for one hour.

Would this work?

Any better ideas?

Any ideas on paying for broadband if you only need an hour a day?

Need to put together a justification for a larger screens for users 2 x 24".  Some are still on old 17" and afraid to ask.  One I know - less printing.   That will help seeing better on the screen rather than print on paper.
Any other one please advice.
Thanks.

We're running on both Windows 2003 and 2008 server and have multiple Windows 7 machines.  Within the Windows world, is there a way to create a snapshot of a particular Windows machine?  We basically would like to clone the machine in case the hard drive goes down or there are unseen issues with a particular machine.  We are not virtualized by any means, but I'm assuming that there is software within Windows or a 3rd party that should be able to accomplish this...I'm assuming.

Help!

I am looking to start using VMware persona management.

I will be synchronizing standard folders, internet explorer favorites, FireFox favorites, Office recent documents, desktops shortcuts, desktop wallpaper.

What are the drawbacks?
Is it possible to use Persona Management in a non-MS Exchange environment where PST files are networked and utilizing POP3?

I'd like to go with small form factor upgrades for the next round of upgrades.   Trying to decide between Lenovo M73 and Dell Optiplex 9020 or 3020M small form factor desktops.
Need to have 16GB, SSD drives, support large 24' min x2 screens.

Currently this client got Optiplex 990's desktops.  Approaching 4-5 years old.  And Lenovo laptops.

Please advice.  Thanks.

I have this Optiplex 990 super slow.  CPU percent shows 0 to 1%.  Memory only 2GB in use.  16GB total.

Yet, the system is really sluggish.  Open anything takes time.  Even windows explorer or notepad.

Only few warnings in App Event viewer.  No red errors shown.

Hello Experts - I'm curious if anyone has any side-by-side SIEM comparison data?  The more comparison data the better.  For example, a head-to-head comparison between McAfee's ESM SIEM and IBM's qRadar SIEM.  Any input is greatly appreciated! Trying to gather as much research as possible on what would be the best most cost effective solution to go with.

We are having to keep track of the status of a number of servers and jobs on our network.  Currently this is done via manual checks, notification emails, and disgruntled users.  What I would like is a simple dashboard and perhaps a single daily status email giving us the status of a number of performance indicators.

Of primary concern is the status of our SQL servers and related jobs but I've put together a wish list below of things I would like to monitor via a single tool.  We have a tight-to-nothing budget but are happy to do some development work internally given the right toolset.  I'm looking for recommendations of affordable/free solutions that users have experience with managing a small network.

In case it is relevant we have a three locations each with an average of two Windows 2012/2008 servers and 50 clients running Windows 7 and Windows 8.

SQL Servers are up on three servers
SQL Agent service is running on three servers
SSRS service is running on two servers
SSIS service is running on two servers
SQL Jobs exist on three servers
SQL Jobs have run at scheduled time within scheduled window
SQL Replication publications available on two servers
SQL Replication subscriptions available on three servers
SQL Replication subscriptions have run at scheduled time within scheduled window
Size of DB and log files growing within limits
On each servers multiple databases exist and are online
Free disk available on three servers
Disk space growing  growing…

Looks like its a time for desktop upgrades at this client.  Currently Optiplex-990 and it's been over 4 years.  Client wants to consider small formfactor desktops.  They use it in the conference rooms.  Lenovo ThinkCentre M73
What would be pros/cons going with these?

Any experiences and opinions?

Thanks in advance.
