IT Administration is the processes and best practices for programming and development, and incorporates methodologies for managing activities and projects. Common methodologies include waterfall, prototyping, iterative and incremental development, spiral development, rapid application development, extreme programming and various types of agile methodology. The life-cycle "model" is a more general term for a category of methodologies, and a software development "process" a more specific term to refer to a specific process chosen by a specific organization.

My general rule of thumb is to keep available disk space around 20% to 40%.

I am having discussion problems with IT techs (?) who have let primary drive space on small business servers drop below 5%.  These businesses are having performance problems and I need their IT support to reallocate space from another partition to the primary drive if possible, or they need to increase the size of the primary drive hardware.  However, these IT techs (?) are only willing to delete files to free up space.  I suspect there are personal stumbling blocks in play, which are preventing these techs from tackling the job of reallocating space or migrating a primary drive to a new drive.

I am looking for a strong and highly credible reference I can send to these IT techs which states clearly what the % of free space should be and why.  Does anyone have a reference for this?  I would take a PDF file from a textbook training manual, a web link, etc.  I would prefer this not be a blog, discussion, or open forum because that is personal opinion.  I would prefer this be a highly credible professional referral source.

My sensor value is set for 60% and constantly alerts when is 61%.  I guess it goes up and down all the time.

What's the recommended humidity and temperature should be in the server room?

Hello,

We are in the process of replacing our very old phone system. The decision has been made to go with Avaya IP and digital phones (IP Office). We would like to upgrade our switches at the same time. Currently have Cisco Catalyst 3560, Cisco Catalyst 3548 & Cisco Catalyst 3524 switches. the newest one purchased in 2007 has some ports failing. None are PoE. All are 10/100.

What would be the recommended path to take - Avaya 3500 Series or Cisco replacement switches?

Thank you for any comments/suggestions.

User has a batch file that he runs after restart his PC.  The batch file maps network drives for him.  They recently changed the password for some of those server drives.  Now, the batch file asks him for credentials every time he runs it.  Any way to update this programmatically?

Hello IT-Experts
I have a Cisco vpn anyconnect-win-3.1.05152-pre-deploy-k9.msi, and I want to deploy it with SCCM 2012R2 in a task sequence when Win 8.1 is rolled out.
However, I am new to SCCM, and I do not know how to “predefine” the Server address in the anyconnect-win-3.1.05152-pre-deploy-k9.msi when it is deployed. At least add the address with a cmd line, or something like that. It should end up with a predefined address in the field where the user at moment have to write it himself, the first time he starts the VPN client.
Can anyone help me with that?
Best regards Vincent

I have over 100 devices running in my network including smartphones and computers/laptops. I have Fortigate 60C where I have noticed several times the issues of high CPU usage only if I keep the UTM profiles enabled , also Log Disk Unavailable probably because disk is dead.

Just wanted to ask the experts if Fortigate 60C is really worth to be upgraded replacing 60C to 60D to handle 100 devices of traffic (its not constant traffic always) and also 3 sites are connected with this as a main server.

OR

Should I go for a better device other than Fortigate which is compatible with rest of the branch's Fortigate 60D IPSec VPN configuration ? I need a better UTM like fortigate and of course security over network.

What are you using instead of RSA tokens for two factor authentication?

We are using RSA for two factor authentication for remote access to Citrix and are nearing renewal.  In the next iteration we will be required to either purchase an appliance or virtualize one in addition to the painful renewal process and high cost.

Thank you

I am attempting to figure out how to have files upload into SharePoint Document library on a regular basis and the task I am setting up in the File Management Console doesn't seem to work. I need dumbed down instructions on how to accomplish this so I don't have to upload the files manually every morning.

Hi Experts,

I have a command line program TEST.EXE that gives status code on exit (internally C# program using Environment.Exit).

I have downloaded chef client for windows and I have also created a test cook book using the following command.

Knife cookbook create testcookbook

Following an online tutorial I am able to create a text file by altering the contents of recipies\default.rb.

Now, all I need is to be able to run this program TEST.EXE, and show that it is returning an exit code, all inside the recipies\default.rb file.

So at the end, I should be able to run the chef-solo command and it should run the recipe and show some indication of what the exit code was.  Perhaps an output message based on the exit code.

Could someone show me a script that can do this?

If you are giving tips please assume zero experience with Chef/Ruby.

If it matters, my environment is Windows 2008 server

Thanks!

Greetings,

I will be replacing a Win Server 2003 Domain Controller with a new Server 2012 R2 Essentials Server.
There are a total of 8 workstations with whom 3 are not joined but connected to the Server via workgroup networking.
The Server 2003 Server has been in place for at least 8 years and has had multiple "computer guys" configuring it.
The Group Policies as well as Active Directory is unmanageable and in-effective at this point.
I am not tied into using the current internal Domain either internally or externally....and no Exchange Server is in use.

My question is as follows:
Instead of spending time "cleaning up" and/or "fixing" AD and GP's does it makes sense, and is it feasible to just create a new Domain name within the new Windows Server 2012 Essentials Server and join all the workstations to the new Server/new Domain?

Also, IF creating the new Domain name on the new Server makes sense will I need to relocate profiles on the workstations currently under the old Domain name to the new Domain profile on each of the 5 Domain joined workstations.

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise.

Hi,

Every month we push out monthly updates via SCCM to certain distribution groups in batches. Occasionally one gets hung up and causes a restart during office hours which causes a disruption in work. We currently have a maintenance window scheduled for each group and have "Automatically install or uninstall required software and restart the computer only outside of the specified business hours" checked off through a script. Is there any known ways to reassure that the Software Center cannot restart PCs during specific hours besides the two ways stated above. Once the restart kicks off from the server we cannot stop the restart which causes issues throughout our environment.

Thanks.

We are currently deploying our updates and install to our Windows 7/8 workstations via MS SCCM 2012. It has been a recent trend where users are unexpectedly being prompted to restart their machine in the middle of the day (way after the scheduled deployment) without any suppress button.

We are looking for a method to ensure with 100% certainty that users machine's do not attempt to install\reboot 2-3 hrs after the initial deployment.

Any suggestions?

EE I need some help.  I have been tasked with creating a Business Continuity Plan.  I have done my research via the web, however I am just lost.  I am a fairly small company of 100 users, 4 ESXi servers, 16 VM's, 2 locations connected by WAN, single egress point, among other things.

I just don't know what to do; its like my brain has shut off.  Can anyone provide me with some direction, sample of similar SMB size, and or a template?

We are planning a 3 phase building remodel. The building remodel includes a distribution area and office area. There are training areas for different groups throughout the building. Different departments will be moved depending on the phase of the construction.

We have one main MDF , and  3 IDF located strategically throughout the building. My questions to with your experience , what type of things should I be brainstorming with a project as this, when it pertains to IT?

There will be a movement  of users to trailers in phases , along with their technology, (Voip phones, laptop/desktop workstations, network printers, etc_) Along with their tech movement we will have to relocate switches, and cabling , possible fiber lines , access points for wi-fi, and APC battery backups.

Are there anything else that I should take into consideration?

Is there any management software that is related to IT that can be used to keep track of these phases of the project, that anyone can recommend?

What are some good questions to ask the architecture group that is managing this move in regards to IT hardware/software?

Thanks

Greetings,
We are planning to implement VDI at our office (Zero Client) , So considering Pano, Ncomputing or any other suggestion Most welcome

-----
So i have a few questions, (to people familiar with Pano)
- after purchasing Pano Logic device (small box), what other Software/hardware do i need, to implement ?
Initial plan is to implement 15 Devices.
- Is there a tutorial or video guide?
- is there any other charges (subscription or license ) for each device or software?
-----

Do you suggest any other ZeroClient other than Pano ? If so please let me know the reason and guide me further.
Usage would be running a VB based application, Internet & MS Office.

Thank you.

I am seeking comments and white paper links on Data Center maintenance windows.  As a DC lead, I am now under a mandate that physical work is only allowed once per week during a specific window as approved by the change control board.  This window must include changes requested from all server teams.  Previously, daily work was allowed as needed with proper notification to change board.

I am also been advised that between now and sometime next year, the ability to work in the DC will be changed from once a week to once every two weeks, then three weeks and finally work will be allowed only once per month.

DC work being defined as:

1. Pulling floor panels for tracing wiring as needed.
2. Installation of drops
3. Power work ie: New power connections
4. Phone cable work
5. Security system work
6. Device installation in racks
7. New rack install
8. Etc, etc.

Emergencies are on an as needed basis to keep the lights on.

Can anyone provide and "Industry Standard" for DC maintenance windows?

Thanks.

I just moved WSUS off of a domain controller and onto a seperate server on the network. No computers are registering with WSUS. I need the steps for making sure all my workstations are checking in with the appropriate server. I believe it is a change in group policy. Want information to get moving in the right direction. Could be a simple change or addition in GPO on my DC.

I work for a company with a lot of workstations and we currently use IBM BigFix to query worksations for their .Net framework version. My question is Is there another way to query workstations besides using BigFix or Tanium? All I want to do is check each workstation for .Net 4.0 and above and report all the names of the workstations that does not have .Net 4.0 or above.
