I have these cells in row 69:
   W         X     Y        Z
-44.21      0      0      -42.34

I want to conditionally format the cell in W69 if Z69 < 0 AND W69 < Z69

This formula works:
(Z69 < 0) AND (W69 < Z69)

 But when I copy the cell 'W69' (CTRL+C) and then paste special to cell W70 (ALT+SHIFT+V and only select 'Formats" the cell is not highlighted even through the condition is true. I can double check that the paste was valid (Format-Cond. Formatting) and the formula is correct.

What is going on? Why is the formula not working?

I am attempting to use Oracle OpenOffice to edit a document, however when ever I try to delete anything from the document, the text turns yellow with a underline.

Hi,

I;m newbie in using openoffice writer. I have 1 question.

Everytime I copy paste an image into writer, the image looks bad. maybe it's because of the scaling?

How to fix it? So when I copy paste the iamge, the image will still looks the same.

I attached the original image, and the image after pasted in writer.

Thanks before :)

I have a department where the managers have MS Excel 2007 and have created a shared workbook on a network share. Modify permissions for the group on the file. The agents use Star Office/Open Office hence the 97-2003 format. When more than one agent attempts to open the shared workbook, it comes up as read only. Perhaps there is something I'm missing? I've seen the reports that Excel doesn't share workbooks well and I tend to avoid them at all costs but I'd like to see if there's something to try and fix this. I've explained to the users about the risks but they want to try. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

I have an Excel spreadsheet that has one macro it is:

Sub Button1_Click()
Dim iP As Integer
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
For iP = 1 To ActiveSheet.PivotTables.Count
   ActiveSheet.PivotTables(iP).RefreshTable
Next
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
End Sub

When I try to use the spreadsheet on my Linux box using OpenOffice the macro won't run because the macro is in VB. Is there a way to rewrite this macro to work with my linix computers?

Thanks,
Tony

How to remove gray background from links in cells in Openoffice calc ?

Dear Experts,
I have a software manual that is currently in Word 2007.  My co-workers want to switch to ODT format.  However my original document had a lot of cross-references to Screens.  For example I would have a caption in Word called "Screen 14: The File Open Menu" and then in the body of the text it would say "as you can see in Screen 14".  When I update fields it would change all the numbers for me automatically.

When I imported the document into Open Office writer I found I could no longer get a cross reference to Screens only headings.  Is there a way around this?  Ideally I would like to keep working on it in MS Word and then save it in ODT format for my co-workers.  Is there any way of doing this without losing information?
Best Wishes,
Phil T.

hello experts,

i have a two columns calc sheet like follow:

date | value
01.02.2010 | 0
02.02.2010 | 0
03.02.2010 | 0
.....

i'd like to draw a chart with bars "columns", i would like twelve bars, one per month, the height would announce the number of values in the month.

the first goal was to count zeros per month, but i 've filter the table and now have only zeros, so i need to count all lines per month without filtering the value.

thank you in advance for your help,

I am running OO using a MacBook Pro OSX 10.6.5
I have this macro which runs well in Word (Windows XP):

Sub RemoveHyperlinks()
'
'
' RemoveHyperlinks Macro
' Macro created 04/10/2008 by Brian O'Gorman
'
Dim i As Long
For i = ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Count To 1 Step -1
ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks(i).Delete
Next i

End Sub

It does not appear to run in OO on the Mac.
I find OO quite confusing when it comes to creating macros. If I go to Tools/Macros/Organize Macros/OpenOffice.org Basic, under MyMacros Standard I have Module1. Under existing macros in Module1 I have RemoveHyperlinks listed.

If I click on Edit I have entered the following:

Sub RemoveHyperlinks()
'
'
' RemoveHyperlinks Macro
' Macro created 04/10/2008 by Brian O'Gorman
'
Dim i As Long
For i = ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Count To 1 Step -1
ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks(i).Delete
Next i

End Sub

However, if I then open the document with the hyperlinks in it and then select Tools/Macros/Organize Macros/OpenOffice.org Basic, the RemoveHyperlinks macro is displayed under Macro Name, and then select Run I get a Basic Runtime Error - Object Variable not set when the cursor is on the line

For i....

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Hi

I like to ask how to export hyperlinks from openoffice to PDF.

I made a document with a hyperlink in it. After converting it into a pdf, the hyperlink is missing. The word is blue and underlined, but its not possible to click the hyperlink in the pdf file.

The only hyperlinks that work are website and emails.  The hyperlink that i'm creating is within the openoffice where i click on a link and it takes you down the page.

under Insert>Hyperlink>

Internet = works
Mail & News = work
Document = don't work
New Document = haven't tried

My goal is to have a script that will insert text and an image at the end of a Writer doc. The attached code works fine on an empty doc, but when I run it a second time on the same document (after it contains text and an image), I get the exception

"  File "test.py", line 33, in ?
    oViewCursor.gotoEnd(False)
uno.com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException: no text selection"

import sys
import Danny.OOo.OOoLib as OOoLib
import unohelper
import os.path
import glob
from com.sun.star.beans import PropertyValue
from array import array

L =  [ PropertyValue() for i in range(4)]

L[0].Name="FileName"
#L[0].Value="file:///home/ollie/Desktop/Screenshot.png"
L[0].Value="file://" + sys.argv[1]
print L[0].Value
L[1].Name="FilterName"
L[1].Value="<All formats>"
L[2].Name = "AsLink"
L[2].Value = False
L[3].Name="Style"
L[3].Value="Graphics"

desktop = OOoLib.getDesktop()
doc=desktop.getCurrentComponent()

oText = doc.getText()
xEnd = oText.getEnd()
xEnd.setString("This is some text.\n")

oViewCursor = doc.CurrentController.ViewCursor
oViewCursor.gotoEnd(False)

dispatcher = OOoLib.getServiceManager().createInstance('com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper')
dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc.getCurrentController(), ".uno:InsertGraphic", "", 0, tuple(L))

#dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc.getCurrentController().getFrame(),'.uno:InsertGraphic','',0,tuple(L))

Here's the script I have so far:

import Danny.OOo.OOoLib as OOoLib
import unohelper
import os.path
import glob
from com.sun.star.beans import PropertyValue
from array import array

L =  [ PropertyValue() for i in range(4)]

L[0].Name="FileName"
L[0].Value="file://home/ollie/Desktop/Screenshot.png"
L[1].Name="FilterName"
L[1].Value="<All formats>"
L[2].Name = "AsLink"
L[2].Value = False
L[3].Name="Style"
L[3].Value="Graphics"

desktop = OOoLib.getDesktop()
doc=desktop.getCurrentComponent()
dispatcher = OOoLib.getServiceManager().createInstance('com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper')
dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc, ".uno:InsertGraphic", "", 0, tuple(L))

Open in new window

The error message I'm getting is:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "test.py", line 43, in ?
    dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc, ".uno:InsertGraphic", "", 0, tuple(L))
__main__.com.sun.star.script.CannotConvertException: value has no such interface!

My ultimate goal is to insert an image in doc that is open in writer.

Right now I have the following code:

import Danny.OOo.OOoLib as OOoLib
import unohelper
import os.path
import glob
from com.sun.star.beans import PropertyValue
from array import array

#dim args1(3) as new com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
#args1(0).Name = "FileName"
#args1(0).Value = "file://tesla/images/674.png"
#args1(1).Name = "FilterName"
#args1(1).Value = "<All formats>"
#args1(2).Name = "AsLink"
#args1(2).Value = false
#args1(3).Name = "Style"
#args1(3).Value = "Graphics"

L =  [ PropertyValue() for i in range(4)]

L[0].Name="FileName"
L[0].Value="file://home/ollie/Desktop/Screenshot.png"
L[1].Name="FilterName"
L[1].Value="<All formats>"
L[2].Name = "AsLink"
L[2].Value = False
L[3].Name="Style"
L[3].Value="Graphics"

desktop = OOoLib.getDesktop()
doc=desktop.getCurrentComponent()
dispatcher = OOoLib.getServiceManager().createInstance('com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper')
dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc, ".uno:InsertGraphic", "", 0, L)

Open in new window

The executeDispatch call fails with the following error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "test.py", line 43, in ?
    dispatcher.executeDispatch(doc, ".uno:InsertGraphic", "", 0, L)
uno.com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException: exceptions.AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute 'getTypes', traceback follows\nno traceback available

I think the problem is that I'm passing a python list when the called function is expecting the equivalent of a java array. How do I convert the list to something that has an attribute getTypes? Or do I need to create my own class and implement a getTypes method?

I installed the python uno libraries and am able to run the HelloWorld.py script from within Writer but I was wondering if it's possible to run these python scripts from the command line. I tried doing:
>python HelloWorld.py
but got no response or no error message. I figure that some code has to be added to connect with openoffice and tell it which document should be modified.

I want to create a spreadsheet using OpenOffice Calc where each line is like a row in a database.
Each cell should be designed as a dropdown/pulldown list showing values from a predefined column of cells in another tab in the spreadsheet.
When I create a pulldown object it is "floating" around on top of the tab and is not linked toany particular cell. I can't figure out how this is done (or if it is possible).
The main reason for creating this in a spreadsheet and not as a database application is the need to transfer it to my cellphone (and other platforms) where I don't neccesarily have OpenOffice installed.
Please adviise.

I want to change the background color of cells A2:F2 based on the value of cell D2.  The kicker is that cell D2 could be any of 15 values.  Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for your help in advance.....

I am experiencing painfully slow scrolling in OpenOffice 3.2.1, OS X 10.6.4, Macbook Pro
I see I am not the only one:

Is there a solution to this?

I downloaded Open Office and installed it on Slackware Linux.  It works except for the spell checking.

I ask for spell checking and get "spell check is complete." But it didn't find the errors.  It doesn't show a language.

I went into Format->character and it does say English there.

I don't think it can actually find the dictionaries.  I found the dictionaries in
/opt/openoffice.org3/share/extension/install

I think it's rather suspicious that the dictionaries are in a directory called install.

I also tried using File->Wizard->Install but there's no install on the File->Wizard menu.

I am not an expert with Openoffice and am having trouble getting the 10 second delay between the presentation replay to be removed.  We have people that are using Powerpoint to create and update a show that runs on large screen monitors.  I have a linux box set up to run the show using Openoffice.  They save the Powerpoint as a .pps file and by using a cron script I can stop the show, copy the new file into place and start the show again.  This happens without any user action on the linux box.  Everything works fine except that when the show cycles around to the beginning again, there is a 10 second delay before it starts.  I know about the menu option to remove the 10 seconds.  However that would require a user to go into the box and set the option each time.  That is what I am trying to get away from.  Yes, they could do their thing in Powerpoint, save it, open it in Openoffice and make the setting changes, but everyone knows that is 'too much work' for the normal user.  I found one article on creating a macro to control this but as I said, I am not really good with Openoffice and I got lost as to how and where to create it.

Does anyone know of a way to make it so the 10 second delay is removed regardless of the setting in the file?  I am using Openoffice version is 3.2. If it can be done with a macro, can you be very specific about the steps in creating it.

Thanks you.
