Greetings wise wizard of EE:

I'm helping a friend with an Mac Pro desktop computer, in which he replaced the spinning hard drive with a solid state drive, running Mojave OS. The computer will very randomly not boot up, instead produces the "prohibitory" symbol (ie: the "ghostbusters" strike through without the ghost). The odd thing is that even when it does boot up normally, it will randomly crash and produce this symbol again.

The operating system has already been reinstalled, so I'm not sure what else can be done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and take care,

Zovoth

Calendar Creator for Mac - latest version

Document [2020 Calendar] does not respond to Align commands [cc_user_guide-2.pdf (page 21 of  38)

Specifically, Created Calendar year 2020 - Entered the text  “Epiphany” on January 6 with ‘Add Event’ function.

Subsequently, the ‘Arrange/Align/Bottom function did not work at all.

Tried same ‘Align’ function with other added events on same Calendar (January 2020)

Same result - added event did not move with a Align command.

How do I get this to work?

My background is Oracle development but I'm learning C#/.NET - very brand new.  I'm going through a tutorial and am getting an error message.  I'm using a MacBookPro (to which I am also new), VS2019 Free/Community(?) version, and trying to run some tests using "MSTest Project".  I got the same error using "xUnit Test Project".  Please forgive if I'm using the wrong terminology.

My tiny little project builds with no errors.  I'm using 'Run All' under Unit Tests to run the tests.  When testing a static method, the test runs fine.  However, when testing a property, I get a pop-up box that starts with "dotnet quit unexpectedly" and includes a whole bunch (like pages and pages) of information about the error that might make sense to someone.  I have not found any answers on google that involve intermittent causes (usually it's on building or running after an upgrade or something like that).

Here are my two tests:
     [TestMethod]
        public void FullNameTestValid()
        {
            //--Arrange
            Customer customer = new Customer
            {
                FirstName = "Bilbo",
                LastName = "Baggins"
            };
            string expected = "Baggins, Bilbo";

            //--Act
            string actual = customer.FullName;

            //--Assert
            Assert.AreEqual(expected, actual);
        }
        [TestMethod]
        public void StaticTest()
        {
            //--Arrange
            var c1 = new Customer();

Cloned, using disk utility, the old 250 GB hd to new 500 GB Samsung 860 ssd.  Tested the clone by booting from it while it was attached via USB.  It booted up, everything worked.

Physically replaced the drive in the computer, it comes on, chimes, screen flashes briefly and turns back off.

Replaced old drive machine boots successfully
The operating system version is Mavericks

Any ideas?

I have a Windows 7 machine, running in parallels.  I have to upgrade to Win 10.

I want to be able to have both versions of Windows running until I make sure that the Windows 10 install has all of the necessary data and programs migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Questions are:
Can I have both versions of Windows installed in parallels at the same time
How do I do that
How do I boot to each version of Windows

Please be as specific as possible

I updated my mac to the latest Catalina version and updated Visual Studio for Mac to the latest version.
When I try to run my app it won't launch the browser like it used to, instead if opens a page of the app inside VS. That's it. Nothing else happens.
I don't get any errors on the build.

Any ideas?  This started happening after updating to the latest OSX.

I’m looking for a secure way to Remote Desktop from a MacBook to the Linux (Ubuntu) GUI.

Currently, we are using NoMachine, but we are encountering significant problems with crashed Ubuntu sessions, often to the point where someone needs to physically access the hardware to reset it.

I’ve invested using VNC but our security team have concerns about it.

Please don’t suggest SSH :)  We already use this method, but occasionally it’s also important to get access to the Ubuntu GUI.

The tool must be secure, ideally low cost or free, and must be peer to peer (no third party go-between like TeamViewer).

Thank you.

Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro and I run VMWare Fusion 11.1.1.

When I checked CPU in "Activity Monitor" for VMAWARE, this is what I saw:

vmware-vmx      190.5

How a CPU can be used more than 100%? Now we see 190.5% but sometimes I see over 200%.

What is that? Is it really more than 100%

Thanks

I have been happily using Nuance Power PDF for years on my Windows computers, but need to find a comparable PDF program for my MAC (it doesn't appear as though Nuance Power PDF works on a MAC).  Most of what I do is "print to PDF", rarely actually using the PDF editing tools.  What program is best for this?  I would like to avoid a large learning curve - so hopefully the functionality will be similar to Nuance.

Thanks,

Phil

We get a lot a lot of these notifications from Mac's about memory usage...  "Memory Usage reached 100% (99.0 % Used for 60 mins)" within the policy "Operating System: macOS"."
Any generic SOP for resolution?

We have started giving users the option to work off of a Mac instead of PC but an annoying issue has come up.

Unlike in the PC world where users can install Windows Updates, admin credentials are needed for Mac users to install updates.  Is there a way for standard users to install Mac updates other that entering admin credentials or having their accounts changed to admin accounts?

Thanks!

Mac mini 2018 Mac OS 10.14.6 Supplemental Update 2 no longer supports 2 displays (Monitors).

At Startup, System will not display screen on both monitors, swapping displays or using single display in each of 2 does not resolve issue - both monitors (1 at a time) work OK using either of 2 Thunderbolt connectors.

When I go into my Photos app, I'm seeing pictures that go back to 2017. When I look at my Storage, it says that I've got over 4 GB of photos sitting on my system. Yet when I go out to my Photo library, I'm seeing this:

Photos screenshot
Everything obvious says that the only pics I should be seeing are 2019 and that's it. I've saved everything else to another drive, but the fact that I'm still seeing pics from 2017 in the app and the fact that over 4 GB of photos are still on my system tells me that there are pics on my system that I'm not seeing.

Where else can I be looking?

I'm running Parallels on my Mac and I'm being told that there isn't enough room to start Windows. When I look at my Storage, I have this:

screenshot of HD
I have deleted all of the content in my "Documents" folder and yet this graphic tells me that I've still got 14 GB of content in "Documents."

Where would this content be?
