I want to move an existing Win7 Boot Camp system to new Mac computer.

I'm now using a 2008 Mac Pro Tower with El Capitan and moving it to a new Apple iMac with High Sierra and Fusion HDD.

My existing Mac and Win7 OS's are on separate internal drives. I have full backups of my Win7 system and a clone of the Win7 HDD (using Macrium).

What is the best method? I do not care about preserving any data on my current Mac OS. All my important data/apps are on Win7 HDD.

I would prefer to continue to use Boot Camp due to its much faster speed... but open to Parallels!

Thankyou

Hello experts,

As new users to Mac ecosystem, we were glad that we got the MacBook Air last year and didn't have to worry about buying anything extra in order to work using Air.

The USB ports and the Mini DP was good enough to work with our existing monitor, keyboard and mouse setup.

However, we recently bought the late 2016 MacBook Pro with touch bar with those obnoxious USB-C ports.

Would be great if someone recommends nice adapters/converters to use our USB keyboard and mouse and also a converter from HDMI to USB-C or a proper cable from HDMI to USB C port that would work without any issues on the MacBook Pro.

Came across this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BK2XL2F

Since these converters and cables are cash cows for FBA sellers, there are tons of these on Amazon making it very hard to shortlist.

Any thoughts would be nice. Thanks!

I have a Sharp MX-C300W all-in-one that has the ability to scan to network drives.

The network destination I have set up is on a newer "trashcan" mac running OSX 10.13.4. I have a working user name and password for the share, and am using the server's static IP in the network path.
Scan-Destination.tiff

After setting it all up, it works....that is until the next day I come in to work. Attempting to scan to this same destination after some time has passed throws a CE-04 error code, which apparently means "FTP SERVER ACCOUNT NME OR AUTHENTICATION PASSWORD INPUT ERROR" according to the error code index

The way I solve this every single time is simply by disabling and then instantly re-enabling the SMB sharing  on the Mac. This fixes it every time, until enough time has passed and it breaks again.

Any ideas why this is happening? It is so annoying to have to do this every day. If it's a bug in SMB running on the mac, does anyone know a way I can program the mac to automatically turn SMB sharing on and off automatically each day? Would love some help from the experts!

Hi - I have 2 clients running Outlook 2016 and connecting to their Office365 Exchange account.
They both seem to be experiencing similar issues with synchronisation and slow sending.
There is a user that is using Outlook 2016 on Windows 10 and he is not experiencing the same issues.
I have a hunch its to do with the connection in the business centre as they have been having connection issues so i have fired off response to the client  confirming whether its happening both in and out of the office. I would however like to be equipped with some background research and be sure. I have attached a screenshot from one of the users showing the error messages .

Thanks

What's the best way to update Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Mid-2010) from 10.6.8 to either El Capitan or Sierra or at least something newer than 10.6.8. We do not mind doing fresh install. We have other El Capitan Mac which we could use to create an installation image. Can we just install El Capitan and will it automatically activate and not ask for licence serial number? Will drivers still be available?

Regards,
Tom

My internal SSD is APFS with High Sierra 10.13.4 and I have no Time Machine backup. Accidentally deleted important files from trash. Do I stand a chance to recover files trashed? It contains important MP4 and MOV of around 2-3 gigs. Please help.

mapping windows network drive on mac running sierra ver. 10.12.6
here is the issue.  i can get the folders mapped and can view them.  after say 10 minutes or so I lose connection to the folders but can still open the share but the folder i just had access to has the red circle.  i can use the command k and connect, put in my credentials and it works.  then i lose connection again.
once i lose connection i open parallels windows 10 and can see the folders from there so i don't think it could be a physical network connection.
another strange thing is i have another folder on another share on the same server i can access

Computers running OSX (Not sure what version) all of a sudden are having problems resolving DNS.  This is all within the same household.  The family can go to a local coffee shop and experience the same issues while connected to WIFi there when no one else is having the problem.  The latency only seems to be an issue when you're using a web browser.  If you run nslookup from the console or ping, no problems are evident.

  • DNS resolution from the console is instant no matter what.
  • Flushed DNS Cache
  • Reset PRAM
  • Reset SMC
  • Tried different browsers, DNS resolution in all browsers takes 30-60 seconds per domain.
  • Ran ESET Cyber Security Pro to see if anything popped up there, nothing did.
  • Going to run Malwarebytes to see what it finds.
  • Tried different DNS, 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8

Please advise.

I have 8GB RAM memory on a Mac.  How can I tell if upgrading to 16GB RAM would help? In terms of, for example, how often does an appl need more than 8GB and start disk-swapping, slowing me down a bit? What type of applications are happier with 16GB RAM?
(I have 3 Macs, one with 4GM RAM, 1 with 8GB RAM, and one with 16GB RAM. When I look at Activity Monitor, they all seem to use less than what is installed of course)

Mac OSX question

I have a large library of digital media. Most of it is kept "offline" but the library software I use (Plex) uses media files to build the library and so I need to use placeholder files.

Using 30 second "this file is archived" videos I can easily catalog offline movies in Plex. I "rsync" the directory structure without files and then "do cp" a placeholder into each movie directory and rename using the parent folder name.

For TV shows this isn't practical as there can be hundreds of episodes per show. I would like to know if there is a way to duplicate the folder/file structure of a tv show, with many episodes under a single folder, using the same placeholder file.

To reiterate, the ultimate goal is to take a placeholder file eg. "placeholder720p.mkv" and use this file to recreate the source directory with the same filenames. So in the end I will have a folder that looks identical to the source, but consists of this placeholder file duplicated over and over. Also, there are non-alphanumeric characters and spaces in the filenames to be duplicated.

Running exchange 2013 & having problems with a Mac client, running Outlook 2011.
I keep getting the message 'The folder cannot be synchronized with the server'. There is an option to empty the cache, but is that on the whole inbox or a folder inside it, as this user has a whole lot of them. There is a warning on the empty cache page, so I am wary to run that, fearing that it may delete emails, folders, etc.
Is there a way to see if it is a specific folder causing the problem?
Don't know if this is related, but the first folder in there has a ' at the start of the name, I'm assuming so it will be a the top of his list of folders.
Could that be part of the problem?
Trying to replicate issue on my mac & after a few attempts, I'll get the message 'Outlook must be closed because an error occurred', which he is not getting.
Mailbox is 7.1 GB, if that matters, either.

Does anyone know how to join a Mac OSX (High Sierra 10.13.5) workstation to a Samba4 domain, or know of a wiki/howto document describing this process? Web searches have turned up plenty of info on running OSX as a Samba4 server, but I can't find anything on joining as a domain member.

I do believe I've actually joined (Bind in apple-speak) the workstation itself to the domain using the System Preferences > Users & Groups > Network Account Server.  That does show my domain name with a green dot (OK status?).  And when I list network computer on the AD server it does list this Mac computer.

Problem is, I cannot log in as a domain user. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Hi Peers,

I need your advice and guidance.

I have an excel database called Master-Document that I need to import several hundred excel files in a folder into.

Unfortunately, this needs to be ran on a Mac and I am no expert on using Macs.

Example Import Files

Row 5 to row 8 starting at Column E are column headers. (highlighted In RED on the example documents).

Each time a document is imported into the master Document the above is added as a new column at the end of the last column.

I then need to match the imported data row to the store row in the list.

The solution that the exports come out of the store numbers column is stored as a text and not a number.

    Any help appreciated on this.

    For some odd reason, one of my Mac clients started having problems connecting to my 2016 remote desktop server. Getting a message that says;

We couldn’t connect to the remote PC. This might be due to an expired password. If this keeps happening, contact you network administrator for assistance.
    Error code: 0x207

Password had no reason to be expired, but I changed anyway & low & behold i worked.
Now, same user is trying to get back in & getting the same message.

Hi there. On my WordPress site, we are using BeaverBuilder and we have a plugin called PowerPack Addon installed and are using the Modal Popup module. We also are using Foobox Pro installed. On this page https://ccdenver.org/engage/ the video modal popup automatically pops up and starts to play the video in Firefox on a PC. However, on a Mac the popup modal opens but the video hangs. Any ideas on how to get that to autoplay like it does on a PC? Also, I have ?rel=0&autoplay=1 at the end of the YouTube string.

    Any ideas experts?
