We have started giving users the option to work off of a Mac instead of PC but an annoying issue has come up.

Unlike in the PC world where users can install Windows Updates, admin credentials are needed for Mac users to install updates.  Is there a way for standard users to install Mac updates other that entering admin credentials or having their accounts changed to admin accounts?

Thanks!

Hi, I use my Apple Watch and iPhone to make Voice Memos, however I can't seem to find them anywhere on my Mac. I know they are synced with iCloud, etc... but there doesn't seem to be a Voice Memo app on the Mac?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just wondering if anyone knows how Linux and MAC update their hostname or PTR record to the DNS and secondly, we have a Linux based (don't look like bind however) with host entries and mac addresses (used for dot1x also) and how to get those hostnames migrated over to the Windows based DNS server and if the DNS PTR works with dynamic registration, guess there is no need to migrated the hostnames over.

Thank you in advance,

Hello to everyone,

I'm trying to install Refind on my mac mini 1.1 (2009 edition),where I have removed mac os x totally and I've installed windows 8.1 (32 bit) on the first partition and Windows 10 on the second. On the refind tutorial I read that I should unhide the EFI partition and I should assign a letter to it. Infact, the script that should install refind on windows says to give the commands below, but the first command gives an error (also on windows 10 it does not work) and I can't give the other ones.

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>mountvol G: /S
The parameter is incorrect.

cd..
cd..
xcopy /E refind-bin-0.10.5 G:\efi\refind\
G:
cd EFI\refind\refind
rename refind.config-sample refind.config
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\refind\refind\refind_x64.efi

I changed a little bit method and I have unhided the EFI partition with a partition manager and I have assigned the letter G to it.

11.09.2019_23.31.29_REC.png
as u can see inside the system reserved partition there aren't any files. And I suspect that it is not the EFI partition....the truth is that I'm not able to install any windows 64 bit versions, because they stuck on the screen as soon as I insert the disc on the DVD player. I suspect also that windows 32 bit has no EFI partition...if this is true, what can I do to install REFIND ? I need it,because it allows to boot a larger number of operatyng …

My staff are not able to log in using their AD ID and password to their mac computers in these scenarios:
1. computer goes into sleep mode when they are away.
2. computer gets powered up in the morning.
3. restart of the computer after an update.

We have tried:
1. pointing it to our preferred domain controller
2. un-bind and bind
3. completing all pending updates from Apple
4. Switching to the user profile through local admin profile

Is there a fix to solve this issue?

Hello to everyone,

since my main PC is broken,I'm playing with my mac mini while it is fixed. I've just removed mac os x and I have installed vista sp2 on the first 50 gb of space and I'm trying to install linux on the rest of the space (30 gb). I'm not able to boot any os from the USB port,so I'm looking for a way. I found this tool that could help me :

http://www.rodsbooks.com/refind/installing.html

I'm interested to the part that explains how to Install rEFInd Manually Using Windows. He says :

To install rEFInd under Windows, you must first find a way to access the ESP, which Windows normally hides from view. One way to accomplish this goal, and to proceed forward once the ESP is accessible, is as follows:

Locate Command Prompt in the Start menu, right-click it, and select Run as Administrator. This action opens a Command Prompt window with administrative privileges.

Type mountvol S: /S in the Administrator Command Prompt window. This makes the ESP accessible as drive S: from that window. (You can use a drive identifier other than S: if you like.)

I tried to do what he suggested, but I've got this error :

Microsoft Windows [Versione 6.0.6002]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. Tutti i diritti riservati.

C:\Windows\system32>mountvol S: /S
Parametro non corretto.

the disk where I have installed vista is a MBR base disk. Should I convert it to GPT ? …

We have several MacOS devices running Mojave that are having trouble staying connected to our AD Domain. These machines are bound and join AD successfully at first. We are able to login with domain credentials, however, after a while, these machines will stop authenticating domain credentials. We have 3 locations that are all macos devices and the other 2 locations do not have this issue, only this one location.

All 3 locations share the same ad domain but each site does have its own domain controller.

Any advice on troubleshooting steps to see why this one location keeps "losing" its authentication to AD?

Hi guys.

We have we have an issue with Mac Mail and office 365/ Exchange / No longer syncing on Mac Mail

We have moved a new client to Office 365 three mail boxes nice and easy. All was well.

The admin account admin@client.com was setup on six different iMac all with the latest version in Mac mail.

This account has stopped syncing on all the original Mac's. We have setup the account on a test Mac and it syncs fine.

The account size is 8GB

We we click Rebuild it shows the mailbox correctly. But only for one update then nothing moves again.
If run Window -> Actively we can see the new messages download. However they never display
If we run Connection Dr all is well and everything is online.

It seems like some sort of bad cache issue.

We have created a new user profile on the Mac / Setup the admin account in Mac mail however same issue.

Any suggestions welcome. I feel like this is a cache issue of some type but the fact it's affecting every Mac and

Malfunctioning AppActivate in Excel VBA 2016 for Mac is driving me nuts.

Anyone found a way to return to the Excel app having switched focus to, say Word, programmatically?

This triggers an error (works fine on a PC)
AppActivate ThisWorkbook.Windows(1).Caption

This triggers no error on a Mac but also has zero effect. (On a PC it causes an error, but that would be fine using conditional compilation).
AppActivate "Microsoft Excel"

I have experimented with simply minimising the Word window, but cannot then re-maximise it programmatically on a Mac either.

This works
WordApp.ActiveWindow.WindowState = wdWindowStateMinimize

But this does not:

WordApp.ActiveWindow.WindowState = wdWindowStateNormal

I seem only to be able to restore Word manually once I've minimised it.

Any ideas?

We have a client with a number of new Macs, using Outlook for Mac 2016, connecting via IMAP to an internal SMTP server. All emails work perfectly well. We have set up an Out of Office rule under Tools-Rules to reply to any incoming email in to the INBOX, for Date Received equals to Today.  On testing, emails go to the Inbox, but this rule never auto replies.  The outgoing mail will always go to an Outbox and just sits there until a Send & Receive is carried out, which defeats the purpose of an auto reply.  I cannot see how to force this to happen. This occurs on all Macs and there are no network or authentication issues or any errors of any kind at all.  The problem is that mail goes to Outbox and never goes out??

Good day
I have a client that has a couple of MacBook Pro’s running on their network.  There is one new MacBook Pro running the latest version OSX 10.14.5.  They backup to an Apple Time Capsule on the network which works well and did not have any issues until recently this one MacBook Pro reported the following error:
Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “Time Capsule 05a275.local”
I have attached the full error on with this threat.
I have tried the various fixes of removing and re-adding the Time Capsule drive.  When I tried to do the the verify disk via the Options and Clicking on the Clock also did not work.  I have updated the firmware as well, but still have the same problem.
Please assist and advise on how to fix the issue as the MacBook Pro is not able to do the backup.

Kind Regards
Lourensvd

I own a Tesla and periodically I get news alerts from them (or some associated app) on my iMac. I call them "Alerts" but they don't behave like alerts because they don't "stay on screen until dismissed", and in fact they often disappear before I can fully read them. Note that my System Preferences|Notifications for Safari is set to "Alerts".

If anyone else has a Tesla and an OS X device please let me know if you also get the "Alerts".
