Have a 2008 windows domain and am looking to add a storage server to house graphic files that need to be shared between MAC's and PC's (Windows 7 pro). Not sure what OS to install on the new server? Windows/Ubuntu/Samba (the new server is a Dell box so IOS is not an option.) Is there a better option?

Thank you

I have a Mac Air (running High Sierra) user whose images have been replaced with red Xs and the message "The image part with relationship ID rld8 was not found in the file" in word (o365) files from our offices shared network.

this typically happens when she works with the files on the network (vs saving them locally first).

so she will open a word (o365) file on the network, make an edit and save. it will take a long time to save and then when it is reopened (by any user, not just by herself) the images will be missing. this happens on site (in the office) and offsite (running form home through VPN) and it happened before she updated to high sierra as well.

i have read that best practice is for users to save files locally before editing and will encourage her to do that with more consistency but wanted to find out if there was anything else she should be doing  as well.

I am looking for some application or script that will save the position of the icons on the Mac, in the High Sierra OS.

There were some available for earlier operating systems, but they are no longer being updated.

Thanks

Hello guys, so I have this MacBook Air 11" (Early 2015) in my lab and the main user account is completely inaccessible.

Here's what happens: you input the password, the wheel starts turning and it never stops. After many minutes the password input interface reappears and it's a loop.

Now, I'm not a Mac expert, mostly because here in Italy they're very rare, so I get less than 10 of them a year. But I've always been able to fix them.

This time I've tried all the usual stuff: boot in safe mode, repair system drive, reset PRAM and the like.

Nothing seems to work. I have the option of making a clean reinstall, but the customer would like to recover her files first.

I usually remove the drive and insert it into a PC able to read Mac formatted drives, but this time it's an M.2 drive with proprietary connector and I have no adapter right now.

So can anybody suggest anything more? Thanks guys.

I am still in Mac OSX 10.5.5 (Yosimite) because, after attempting to update to Sierra, I lost my Boot Camp Windows 7. I had to recover to 10.5.5, and re-activate my Windows 7 in Boot Camp, with the associated re-loading of all of my applications. Does Sierra or High sierra support Boot Camp?
Appreciatively, Arbyem

My son is in deep trouble, and I would like to help him, but I don’t have the foggiest notions about MAC computers. Can you help me help him?
His compositions for his approaching recording sessions are locked on his Mac. And he has – of course! – no backup.
After his login, the enclosed screens are shown, and then the computer stalls.
Safety start has no effect.
He can login as a guest, but has then no access to his documents.
Anything he can do about it?
Thanxalot!

Hi,
I setup a MAC user to use VPN for accessing company file shares. She was able to do this fine when she was in London.
She's traveled to Australia and tried VPN there. The VPN connects fine but she cannot access the file shares. Her accounts are all fine.
They try to connect but fail. The file shares are using the UNC path but with the IP address so example - \\ipaddress\sharename
Is it because the connection to the file shares is timing out due to the distance?
Can I increase the timeout settings on a MAC for accessing network shares

Trying to upgrade to Mac OS Sierra from El Capitan.

Start the install by copying file to local desktop, double clicking the file and install starts fine.
After the first install wizard starts, and all ready to restart, mac then just hangs with blank screen with mountain backdrop and no menu bar and wont restart, even if left overnight.

Have tried several times to install.
Tried running first aid several times to check disk, this runs ok and then you click on done, restart the mac and try the install again but no joy.
Tried enabling 'root' user but install doesn't even start.
Tried deleting files in '/library/launchagents' and '/librarylaunchdaemons'

Can anyone shed any light on this issue of a way to install sierra please?.

Many thanks for your time and input.

Hi guys,
Am new to mac world. and got a user who has mac probook(High Sierra). its running slow. freezes intermitently.
I googled and did few tasks, like clearing cache files., ran maintenance scripts from cleammymac3. checked for updates. still no luck. running slow.
From activity monitor found, calender agent takes around 1.06gb ram, kernel_task-959.5mb ram . how do i troubleshoot these 2 things. why its taking too much of ram ?
Could anyone help me with this.

Hi,
I want to connect two of these monitors: http://displaysolutions.samsung.com/business-monitor/detail/1120/S24H850
To a Macbook pro 15" 2017 2.8Ghz intel core i7

The Macbook spec is here:https://support.apple.com/kb/SP756?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

It looks like it's possible, but there are a couple of things I'm wondering about:

What adaptor(s) do I need?  The samsung screen states that it supports displayport daisy-chain - does that mean I can connect the laptop to one screen and connect the second screen to the first screen?

I understand MacOS doesn't support MST - does that mean I can't extend the desktop across both screens and will end up with one mirroring the other?

The Samsung screen resolution is 2560x1440 and Macbook Pro resolution is 2880 x 1800. The macbook states it supports 4 resolutions below 2880x1800, but the samsung's stated resolution is not one of them.  Will I still get the benefit of the Samsung's resolution without the image being distorted?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I just upgraded my exchange from 2013 to 2016
All my windows outlook clients are working just fine
My OWA is working fine
I did a test and I can telnet on port 143
pop3 and imap services are started and running

I have about 10 mac clients, and none of them work now after the upgrade. The error message is
"Unable to verify account name or password"
I did setup my account on my test mac computer, and that worked fine.

All  the other macs though are not working.
I tested one account on OWA and it's working fine, so I know it's not the AD account, but something with the communication between the mac client and exchange

Hi Experts,

i have a problem with Apple users which cant access a windows Server 2016 Share without problems.
They are unable to rename, overwrite, open files. and sometimes finder completely crashes. and need to restart their mac for the functionality to come back.

They currently run OSX version 10.11.6 (el Capitain).

The server 2016 is default smb 1 2 and 3 enabled.

Any solutions?

Thanks in advance.

I had created metadata tags for all of my photos before I had them imported into photos for the Mac. I would like to auto create albums based on the tags in the photos.

I know I can do this with SmartAlbums, but those don’t transfer to mobile or other Macs so I need real albums.

I was thinking with AppleScript I could do something but not proficient there.  Maybe created the Smart Albums from the tags then create albums from all the smart albums?

Back story - MyCloud NAS disk not recognised by PC or Mac.

Removed disk (inside MyCloud case was a WD 4TB RED)  which I connected  to S-ATA port on PC.

Used an application call UFS Explorer to transfer (mostly) media files to external Toshiba USB disk.

All files copied over. Or so I thought but a large number of  .mp3 files will not play. They are however all visible.

Strange Issue common to both WD4TB and Toshiba. When both of these are plugged into a Mac system. The message "the disk you inserted is unreadable" appears.

What could be the problem?

When logging into portal.office.com to access my Microsoft O365 toolset, when clicking on Onedrive or SharePoint in my Safari browser on my mac, it seems to go into a login cycle and never lets me log in.

Has anyone run into this issue?

We have used ajax call with "async: false" through out our web application, now in Safari browser(in Windows and Mac OS both) if response gets delayed more than 5 seconds Safari browser throws dom timeout exeption.

$.ajax({
	type: "POST",
	contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
	url: "Web method url",
	data: jsonData,
	async: false,
	success: function (data) {
	},
	error: function (data) {
	},
	complete: function () {

	}
});

Open in new window

The straight solution we found through different blogs is to set "async: true" or implement setTimeout() logic, that will fix the issue we have already tested that.

But we are looking for another solution that is there any way like by any property in configuration or AJAX call or any browser setting we can increase JavaScript Execution time for Safari browser.

I just updated to Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.1 and now I am unable to launch Windows 7 using Parallels Desktop 13.2.0

When starting Parallels I get an error telling me it is unable to connect to the hard disk.

I've discovered that my .hdd file is missing from the Parallels .pvm package.

I can't imagine how the .hdd file went missing, but here we are. Does anybody know if it's possible to rebuild or recover this file somehow?

We have a User who is running Outlook 2016 on a mac

They have created a local distribution or Contact Group in their Outlook and added email address's to the group.

When they attempt to email the group the emails to send and they receive a message Error 50 and the email does not send.

We are able to email each email the group when trying to send out side of the created Contact group. We have deleted and recreated the group. Also added the user email on a New Mac and New Office install and after setting up the profile and recreating the group still had the same issue.

I had the user log into OWA and they were able to send to the group that we had created. I also created their profile on PC running  and through the Outlook Client was also able to send to the same contact group.

On the Mac prior to sending to the Contact group I have expanded the group and it appears to resolve all the emails in the group.

I have an iMac running Sierra. This is connected to a network printer in a small office. The network printer has a static IP address. The other Macs in-network, have no issues printing to this device at any time.
On the iMac in question, my client is running Parallels with Windows 8.1 installed. Simply put, they can print from the OSX side only when Parallels is closed. After you open the virtual machine, the printer simply goes to Offline and cannot be connected to. There is no problem printing in the virtual environment.
Obviously, they can close Parallels to print to get by, but ultimately this is a system that did work up until a week or two ago. I have reinstalled the latest printer drivers from the manufacturer in OSX. I have also found many, many forums addressing this exact issue. Some dating far back, but none of the solutions see relevant to my scenario. The client believes they may have changed a setting in Parallels inadvertently. This is plausible but honestly, I am a PC/Network guy and do not interact much with OSX.
Ultimately we just want them to be able to print again normally in OSX and Parallels simultaneously.

Good morning all.

I have a client that has an onsite Exchange 2013 Server running CU18 on a Server 2012 R2 fully parched server.

The server has been in production for over two years and has been very stable. The environment is a mix of Windows and Mac, but mostly mac users.

Email Clients used:
Windows: Outlook
MAC: Mac Mail and Calendar.app

This has been working fine for the past couple of years until recently.

Some users are reporting that they are unable to add calendars to which they have access to.

Issue 1: When adding a delegate, the Directory Search doesn't work and the users cant be found

Issue 2: If the user is found, the user is added but is greyed out and cant be enabled
Even previously added and working users are now greyed out.

The above issue will happen with users calendars with all different permissions. So a calendar that only has Read access will be greyed out, as well as a calendar where the user has full permissions.

Strange FYI:
If I add the user account to a Mac connected to the internet network, the issues above are persistent.
If I add the same account to my MAC in a remote office, then I can add any calendar and they all show up correctly  and function as they should.

Things I have checked:

Internal network works perfectly fine and no recent changes have been made.
Autdiscover resolves internally and points to the internal exchange server's IP

External access and Autodiscover can be resolved. MS …
