Does https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973831.aspx from year 2002 still stay valid? For internal employees, does it make sense to build web interface given typically the operations are more complex ? Our company is a pure Microsoft shop.

Is it possible to create a windows 10 Enterprise USB install disk. I see that if you use the tool Microsoft provides you only have an option for Pro and the other versions.

However I want to install Enterprise and can't seem to find a way to do this.

Hello Ee ,

My company is an application service provider . We have a very large custom product suite spanning dozens of server vm instances . Last count was over 1000 config files that are needed to be managed and reapplied during software updates. What is the best product suite to manage these configuration files. We are also microsoft shop , and would like to get some feedback on system center configuration manager . Would this be ideal for custom config files ? I am open to other solutions as well.

Our company will be performing a staged migration of our Exchange 2007 (Enterprise) server and I would like to migrate a (very) small pilot group of mailboxes to initially get our toes in the water. Once we are comfortable migrating a couple of test users the plan will be to migrate the rest of the company in batches.
My question at this point is how to get started - all documentation seems to infer that admin accounts have already been set up on the Office 365 portal, but I'm not sure how to go about this in an efficient manner.

Presently we have an Open license agreement with Microsoft, so I'd like any license purchases to be reflected. I'd also like the admin accounts set up so they are not overwritten etc when we do a DirSync.

Microsoft sales has been of little help, indicating that a Microsoft partner needs to be involved in this. We may involve a partner later on as we better discover the scope of the project but for now we do not have funds available to support this, and migration steps appear manageable once the admin (federation?) account has been set up.

I'd love some recommendations based on your expert experiences.

Thanks!

I am running tests against our deployment of webmail (Exchange 2010) with RSA -- this worked before, but I had to build a new RSA appliance (8.1) with a new IP address.

I've used agent_nsload.exe, imported the node secret successfully, exported the sdconf.rec file to the TMG directory and System32, etc.

I must have missed a step, though, because when I try to authenticate to the webmail portal, and run the threat management gateway log query while I do it, it still sends the SecurID request to the old IP address of the RSA appliance, and not the new one.

Where is it getting this old IP and how can I tell it to go to the new one?

I had setup Directory Sync from our on-premise AD to our Azure AD a while back.  I made sure to set the Azure AD account that I use for sync to never expire.  Recently it seems like sync stopped working because user authentication for new users was not working and there were errors in event viewer stating "Synchronization failed to start for Active Directory Connector because of credential problems. Run the Windows Azure Active Directory Sync tool Configuration Wizard again to update credentials for synchronization."  I re-ran the Directory Sync configuration using the same settings and users for both the Azure and on-premise side.  It all ran through fine and everything is syncing again it appears.

The only thing I can think is that the on-premise account that I used had the password changed.  However, when you are running the configuration utility, it states that this credential is not saved.  To me that means it is used initially and then not needed on-going.  Do I have that correct?

Also, I noticed in event viewer that after I completed the Directory Sync Configuration there was an informational entry stating "Creating Domain Account (MSOL_cae84bd459e) and then a following warning entry referring to "Resetting password for domain\MSOL_cae84bd459e."

Hi

I have recently taken over a team of infrastructure architects, and we don't really seem to have any sort of process in terms of managing new work. For example, starting off with requirements, analysis, calculating time, testing etc.

Does anyone have any good examples or frameworks I can use? I've looked at Enterprise Architecture but this looks more high level.

This is a followup to a comment made in another question I have (Windows 7 Self Signed Certificate for RDP).

I am trying to get a handle on the SHA1 deprecation that is coming from Microsoft that will eventually impact ssl certs signed with sha1 from the CA.  Certs that are used for RDP or certs that are issued from DOD that we have for smart cards.  In these articles and many other it states something to the effect:

Microsoft announced our stance on SHA-1 in multiple blog articles, including

http://blogs.technet.com/b/pki/archive/2013/11/12/sha1-deprecation-policy.aspx This link is external to TechNet Wiki. It will open in a new window. ,
http://blogs.technet.com/b/srd/archive/2013/11/12/security-advisory-2880823-recommendation-to-discontinue-use-of-sha-1.aspx This link is external to TechNet Wiki. It will open in a new window. , and
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/2880823.aspx This link is external to TechNet Wiki. It will open in a new window.

In summary, as of now (May 2015), Microsoft's SHA-1 deprecation only impacts SSL and code-signing certs issued by CAs in the Windows Root Certification Program. Any CA not in that program will be treated as a private/enterprise CA and Microsoft's current (as of 5/15/2015) SHA-1 deprecation policies does not apply. Microsoft's treatment of SHA-1 and its further deprecation will be discussed more at the appropriate future time.

I am trying to understand how that applies and how to …

Hello Experts,

I was wondering if anyone has done the research to provide a factual unbiased answer to this question: What is more secure, a properly configured Remote Desktop Gateway or a VPN? After reading this article from the TechNet Magazine, it is hard for me to decide. Please feel free to share any advantages or disadvantages that you think should tip the scales in favor of one over the other.

Our company want to license  Office 2007 product used in company's computers.
The initial offer that we received is for Office 365 business premium(in the offer is written that with this license  we can have 5 offline installations on PC for Office products for  one user), and according to the company that sent us the offer, with  this plan we'll be able to use the current offline installation of the office products(they'll be licensed). Just to pinpoint that we don't have plans for moving to office 365, and we don't want to move it right now. We just want to license this product and it seems that if we buy office 365 business premium is cheaper than buying office 2007.
At now another microsoft partner company is telling us that this is wrong and we have to buy office 2007.
When we called microsoft directly we didn't received any normal answer to this question(of course we insist from them to provide us with something that is  written in any microsoft licensing documents). In the end their comments are that office 365 is having problems with older version of office and supported version is office 2013 and so on so on). We know that but we don't plan to use office 365.
Could you help me and give me some information if we buy office 365 business premium, our local installations of office 2007 wil be licensed or not?

Hello. I am hoping someone can provide some pointers for a solution I am trying to figure out.

I have a hybrid configuration with O 365 and on prem Exchange. We also use Mimecast gateway.

So, normal email flow will be through Mimecast > O365 > On Prem Exchange.

This is what I am trying to figure out. If Mimecast has an outage is there a way for me to "easily" take Mimecast out of the flow. So that mail now flows through O365 > On Prem Exchange?

Can I add another MX record for O365 and set it to a lower priority? And add alternate send and receipt connectors from O365 to on prem Exchange?

Bad item in questionHello - we use AX 2012 and have a new item that is not allowing the user to change the "Purch ID" under the Default Order Settings in Manage Inventory of the item to the "THOU" unit, which is a valid UOM in the system.  There are other items in the system where this is able to be done, so there is something about this new item that is preventing it.  What I'll do is attach 2 screen shots - 1 for a normal item that works, and another for the new item in question.  Thanks for your help

I am seeing quite a bit of UPnP and SSDP traffic on my edge router. Is there any good reason why I should not block that traffic or shut off the service from generating the traffic on an enterprise network?

Hello all,

So everyone knows what is being asked, I am attempting to rip the .wim file from a windows 10 machine to upload it to my automated install software to distribute out images of windows 10 to client machines.

For context, here is the previous steps to take to rip the .wim file from a syspreped image of Windows 7 for Automated Scripted Installs:

Enter in this command: Imagex /capture C: (yourflashdriveletter):\install.wim "Windows 7 Enterprise" "Custom Updated image" /Flags "Enterprise"

I have yet to get this to work when attempting to do the same with a windows 10 .wim file. As a shot in the dark, I tried to just replace the syntax to match windows 10, but clearly, no luck.

Anyone have any ideas or know of good syntax to use to complete the task?

Many thanks in advance,
Aaron.

I have a Windows 10 64-bit OS that currently has Office 2013 installed using an Office Enterprise E3 license through Office 365.

We have made Office 2016 available for install through the Office 365 admin portal and I would now like to run both Office 2013 and Office 2016 within Windows 10 at the same time.

I understand that I will only be able to run Outlook 2016 and that Office 2013 will be uninstalled.

I have already installed Office 2016 on other computers that have already had Office 2013 installed and the Office 2013 installation has been removed and then replaced with the Office 2016 installation.

What is the process I need to follow so that the current Office 365 Office 2013 installation will stay in tact when the Office 2016 software is also installed through the Office 365 admin portal?

I would like to be able to do this within the same Windows 10 base operating system without having to set up a separate installation of Office 365 running the other Office 365 version using a virtual machine.

How can this be done?

After login to the windows, a few minutes later the user experience an error message. Below is the error. But it is intermittent. After I do a GPUPDATE /FORCE and restart the system it will go away. After a few more boots, it will come back again.

MTI-MOTD.VBS Error message
I suspect it has something to do with the logon script and conflict with some apps. Don't know what app. Or it could be the connection to the network is too slow and causes an error. I don't thing it is a WSCript error.

The system is a Lenovo x240 laptop. OS is windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. Loaded with ISAM ESSO startup and a logon script is pushdown during windows startup.

I hope someone here will be able to assist.

Hello,

We need to get a couple of exe programs installed on our Windows 7 machines. We have about 100 to do so looking for a way of forcing installation over the network if possible.

We don't want to use GPO or start up scripts if possible. Can anyone recommend a way of doing this? Happy to look at 3rd party deployment tools.
