I have a important PPT file that by saved by a member of a staff and when opened it says PowerPoint cant open this type of file  and gives the location.

If I Click show help is says the following. Is they a way to repair this or recover this PPT file

Thanks and any help will be great.

The selected file does not appear to be a valid Microsoft PowerPoint file. It might be a file created by a different program.
Try double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer to see if another program will open it. If PowerPoint opens again when you double-click the file in Windows Explorer, it is possible that the file is not a PowerPoint file but that its extension was renamed to be that of a registered PowerPoint file type (such as .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .ppsx, .pptx, .pot, or .potx) but the file is not a PowerPoint file.
To determine which program can open the file, try any of the following:
Contact the original author (if known) to find out which program was used to create this file. Then rename the file with the correct extension so that it can be opened by that program.
Try opening the file in other programs.
If you, or someone you know, are very knowledgeable about software, examine the file header in a text editor to determine which program can read the file.
Another possibility is that the file was damaged during transfer from another computer. Try transferring the file again.
The file might have become corrupted. If you have a backup copy of the file, use it. It is …
Office 2016 (latest build) hangs when pressing save as. I've opened a case with Microsoft and they aren't much help but when my PC (Windows 10 and Server 2016) users try to save as Word, Excel, PowerPoint takes 30seconds to 5 minutes to display the save-as dialogue.

At first thought it was a network issue so I saved a .pptx file to the desktop, opened it, and tried a save-as with the same result. Has anyone experienced an issue like this?
Hello experts,

I am looking for a vba procedure to select the various zones of a ppt powerpoint presentation or at least the ones related to active slide. Could you please advice?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm using the Slides.InsertFromFile method to inserts slides from a file into the active presentation and it causes a new Presentation object to be added to the Presentations collection (without a window) which then needs to be closed. The problem is that the Close method is not working at run time but it does in the Immediate window. Here's a test macro:

Sub TestInsertFromFile()
  Dim lPres As Long
  Const sFile = "C:\Temp\myPresentation.pptx"
  lPres = Presentations.count
  Debug.Print "Open presentations before : " & lPres
  ActivePresentation.Slides.InsertFromFile sFile, 1, 2, 2
  Debug.Print "Open presentations after : " & Presentations.count
' If there's more open presentations than before, close the last one in the collection
  If Presentations.count > lPres Then
    Debug.Print "Trying to close presentation " & Presentations.count
    Debug.Print "Open Presentations : " & Presentations.count
  End If
End Sub

The output is this:

Open presentations before : 1
Open presentations after : 2
Trying to close presentation 2
Open Presentations : 2

So the Close method failed to close the second presentation (and doesn't raise any error) but the following works when run in the Immediate window after running the above macro:

Why won't the presentation close at run time?
Is it possible to return a reference to the selected text within a chart object placed on a PowerPoint slide?

In the example below, the text for the chart title object is selected.

Chart text selection
This returns true in the PowerPoint VBE Immediate window:

But both of these return the error "The specified value is out of range.":

Is there a way to return a reference to these types of formatted text objects within the Excel chart OM?
I had this question after viewing Replacing text in PowerPoint 2016 using VBA.

Is it possible that I can insert a custom textbox in slide theme and it gets updated in actual slides ?
Here what I am trying to do in power point VBA which I have done successfully in Visio VBA.

I want to put the presentation file name on all slides of a presentation.  I have 50+ such presentations containing 25+ slides in each presentation.  The above code requires that I insert a text box on each of the slide manually and then it works if I run the macro.  Any suggestion how to automate the process using Powerpoint VBA ?

I do not want to change the slides theme for each presentation by inserting a text box with file name.  That would defeat the purpose of automation. Visio VBA does it very easily by using code in Auotexec module for each slidepack.
Powerpoint presentation won't print - When I try and print to any printer it starts out as a small file - 160kb and when it hit's the printer it's starts spooling to over 500MB and eventually nothing prints -  I tried network printers, USB printers - Sent it to a friend - Same thing at his house.

Can't figure this out....
In PowerPoint, ActiveWindow.Selection.Type can return one of four types : None, Slides, Shapes or Text.

When in the Slide Master view and a single layout is selected in the thumbnail pane, the selection type returned is Slides and the following returns a Master object as expected:

Set obj = ActiveWindow.View.Slide

But, when more than one custom layout is selected in the thumbnail pane, the following returns an error:

Set obj = ActiveWindow.Selection.SlideRange

The error : "Selection (unknown member) : Invalid request. SlideRange cannot be constructed from a Master."

So my question is "how can I return a collection of custom layouts based on the current selection when the selection comprises more than one layout?"
I have plot in powerpoint that was taken out from excel. The linked has be deleted however I still see the point values when I hover the mouse around the points. Is there anyway I can convert the points data to excel table?

Hello Experts,
I have the following procedure that I use in my personal.xlsb in order to quickly add list number in an specific column:
Sub Add_List_Number()
Dim strCol As String
Dim lngLastRow As Long
Dim lngRow As Long
Dim intPos As Integer
Dim strPrefix As String

strCol = InputBox("Please enter the column letter in which you add specific row number", "Choose Column Letter")
lngLastRow = Cells.Find("*", SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlPrevious).row

For lngRow = 1 To lngLastRow
    Cells(lngRow, strCol).Value = lngRow
End Sub

I would like to take it as a reference to add list number in a column table in power point. Every time when a set up table in power point I use list number and when I add additional row I need to retype list number manually. I would like to add this procedure in my powerpoint add in in order to avoid to perform this task manually.

Thank you again for your feedback.
Is it possible to share just a custom show with someone else. I can see how to print it but if I wanted to show send someone just the custom show?
If I create an animation with custom paths, on two objects, how can I get them to arrive aligned - I have them setup off slide to be ready to "swoop" in but when they land they are not aligned? Any ideas. Thanks
Best way to animate a slide if some elements are on the Master Slide and some are on the Normal slide. Can animate both - the issue is with the sequence e.g. circle on Master slide, text on Normal slide?
If I import a chart from Excel and I want to resize it - so that all text is legible - but that ends up making it bigger than the that in presentation view, now I can't see the x and y axis labels at all - how do I get around that? The problem I am having is with a custom template - which I don't want to post for confidentiality reasons. Oddly enough I can get it to work with my standard PowerPoint templates...
Is there a way to get a colour from a picture on a Master Slide onto a shape to be added in Normal View - Eyedropper maybe?
Animations - smooth start and end? I've experimented with these.  Right now I can't see much of a difference. What would they be used for?
Power Point 2016,. how do I change the default font from Arial to Calibri so that it does bring up Arial Again when the account open. It is not evident how to do this in Power Point 2016.

Thank you for your assistance.
Some questions on using sound in PowerPoint..
(1) - if I want a piece of music to play in the background - do I have to put that on the first slide - I've tried it on the third slide and it won't play on slides one and two?
(2) What's the difference between "Play across slides" and "play in background"

(3) What's the difference between "loop until stopped" and "Rewind afer playing" and when would I use either/both
(4) why would I use a bookmark?
