Hello,

I have created a VM test lab that includes an AD domain controller and 8 member machines. These machines are running 2008r2 or Windows 7 pro.
Users from outside this lab environment can RDP into any of these machines and review applications or make changes to these applications.
Of course with RDP, only one user can access one machine at a time.  Ideally, I need to do the following;

  • Implement support that allows multiple users to remotely access the same windows machine concurrently.
  • Allow each user to make changes to an application while in their own session on the same machine and be warned if changes to that application have been made by another user connected to that same machine at the same time.
A console is available where I (as the admin) can see current connection status to any of the 8 machines in the lab.

Any information or guidance is appreciated.

I subscribed to the Microsoft Action Pack back in February of 2018.

At the time I viewed all of the software I was entitled to download.

I have now logged back in the Microsoft Action Pack but don't remember where to go to download the software the view the software activation license keys.

Please provide me with the exact URL address I can go to that will allow me to download the Action Pack Windows software and to view the software activation license keys.

When I try to delete an empty OU container (named "NoEmail" within a Server 2016 AD environment using the Active Directory Users and Computers console I get the message shown below "You do not have sufficient privileges to delete NoEmail, or this object is protected from accidental deletion."

How can I delete this OU container?

I have a pair of Windows Server 2016 DCs (DC1 and DC2). DC2 stopped working I have demoted it, removed AD from it, and then removed it from the AD Domain. I am now trying to delete the DC2 server object from ADUAC but (as administrator) it says that the account does not have privledged to so so. I have Gone through the delegate control wizard a couple of times and rebooted DC1, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have taken over the administration of AD and it includes MS Network Protection server. I see two NPS servers and do not see proxy setting on it for RADIUS. Is switch is taking care of load balance?
I wonder how they load balance, I would appreciate your help on this?

Working with an existing internal FTP server with (3) FTP sites where all traffic is behind my internal firewall. I now need to add a connection from an external source that is behind their own firewall. When building the FTP on the existing server I want to use a custom port, for example, of 11000. Both firewalls were modified for that connection and FTP clients can connect. BUT! No information is listed for the connection, such as file names, folders etc. I identified this as related to needing to specify a custom, active Data Port on the FTP server to allow this visibility. Ok, no issues there, I can make that happen and know how.

However, when I edit this setting on the server it looks very much to me that it would be a global effect on the entire server for all FTP sites. My concern is that if I make this change the existing connections for my internal sites will stop, even though they are using the standard port for connections.  I also have a custom FTP port (not 21 or 22) on one of my INTERNAL sites that is working fine.

Question:  Does making this change for the data port affect anything on the standard FTP port of 21? I need to make sure I won;t break my current connections by enabling this setting and specifying a port. If so, I will build another server for the external (trusted) connection.

    Please advise.

    Hi Support,

I am facing an issue from last two three days is that, when my domain controller is down (ex-pdc) my exchange services (email) is down. FSMO roles already shifted to another domain controller. but the exchange server select the GC of old DC. which cause my services affecting. because the domain windows dump after 30 mins and  email services goes down every 30 mins. I staticly entered the domain controller. but the situation is the same.

Need your help to resolve the issue.

    Sigh...

Just downloaded Microsoft Server 2019 Preview 17623 for testing. I manage lots of Small Business customers and the 'Essentials' Role is a great tool. Perfect for small clients. Never thought I'd say it, but I actually like it better than the venerable SBS Platform.

But the Essentials Role is GONE in 17623!

Anyone have any 'insider' knowledge on this? Are they just 'working on it' and (hopefully) going to add it back to the next Preview? Or are they just throwing SMBs under the bus?

The error message right before the disconnectI am having a problem printing to a local printer from a remote desktop connection. When I am on the server I can print to some local printers, but not this one Canon MF8350. When I try to print to it the remote desktop connection is severed. It prints fine from the local computer. Things I've tried:

Added the printer to the server
Reinstalled the printer on the local computer
Removed the user's profile from the server
Checked Event Viewer on server and local
    Checked for fEnablePrintRDR in registry
Checked Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration for printing settings

Again, some printers do print with no problem. Any ideas?

Over one month ago I setup a new Server 2012 / Exchange 2016 with the intention of migrating the existing Exchange 2010. No disruption of services was the highest priority so installation progressed at a glacier rate. We finally reached a point where both mail server were operational, the 2016 server could send out email, the 2010 server continued to run the show. Last weekend I changed firewall settings so that the new 2016 server handled both inbound and outbound email and proxied down to the 2010. Worked great for about 5 days; no one was even aware of the change. As of last night...

    1) 213 outbound emails stuck in queue

    2) OWA gets a "page not found error"

    3) Exchange Admin Center shows the login screen but displays a blank page and hangs. Even more interesting is the ECP folder is empty.  There is only a config file.

Temporary fix - changed the firewall settings back to the old server. It would be nice to get the 2016 to deliver the emails stuck in the queue.

Short of completely reinstalling Exchange 2016, is there a way of fixing this? And more importantly, how did it happen?

I did a "repadmin /showutdvec DChostName dc=........" on one of my 3 replicated DCs, waited 24 hours, repeated, and see that all of my DC USN numbers went up by 3,000+ during that period

     1. How can I find out what 3,000+ transactions have happened ?

     2. What are ALL the type of transactions (i.e. user changing password, someone changing security rights on folder, etc) that get tracked via USN ?

I finally got some free time and decided to try and set up Anywhere Access inside Windows Server Essentials 2016. Didn't go good. Every time I go into the Dashboard and try and configure it I get a error message that "There is an issue with your Remote Desktop Services settings that cannot be automatically repaired. Please contact Product Support".

I decided to take a look at Roles and noticed that only one role under Remote Desktop Services was installed (Remote Desktop Gateway) so I installed the Remote Desktop Web Access role. Still no luck. Do I need to install and other Remote Desktop roles?

The only other error I am getting is that ports 80 and 443 are blocked which they aren't because the Windows Firewall is turned Off.

    Any ideas?

    Hello all,

I could really use some assistance with this situation as I am not sure how to proceed and I do not want to make things worse.

This is actually a pretty simple setup……

One Domain with just two servers…. a Windows 2003 server (Dellsvr1) which was the Primary Domain Controller and a Windows 2008 server (Dellsvr2) (with service pack 2) which was setup as the Backup Domain Controller.

The Windows 2003 server (Dellsvr1) crashed because TWO of the eight hard drives failed. It was setup as a RAID 5. I have file by file backups and I also made images of it. So, I was able to get this company going again by installing their database apps onto another system for right now. But I can not get either image to load …. And that is a long story itself.

But where I am at right now is the Windows 2008 Backup Domain Controller (Dellsvr2) failed to promote itself properly when the Primary Domain Controller died.

And I am stuck with an Event ID error of 1864. I just do not want to make matters worse so I thought I would ask for advice before proceeding.

Please see the attached PDF screen shots of DCDIAG from the Windows 2008 Backup Domain Controller (Dellsvr2).

    Hi All

Does anyone have a Powershell script to share that would do the following ?

    1) gets the path form a text file .. example below .. with 100s  of paths
    \\server1\share1
    \\server2\share2
    \\server9912\share99
    2) checks if a set of domain credentials can access each share.
    3) output CSV with each path and if the account was able to access the share or not .

I licensed my below setup so I could run 4 HyperVs on each physical server

If one of my PHYSICAL servers dies can I restore 2 Windows Server 2016 HyperVs backups onto the remaining PHYSICAL server without having licensing issues since I have enough LOCAL storage to support all 4 HyperVs on one PHYSICAL server ?

    Setup
** 2 PHYSICAL "16 core licensed" Windows Server 2016 servers via OEM licensing, not OpenBusiness/etc
** each hosting 2 Windows Server 2016 HyperVs
          ** each using LOCAL storage

    Dear experts,

I have a Window 2012 R2 server running DNS, DHCP, and AD DS and a sonicwall firewall. For some reason that my DNS server is not working. When I look at my network connection from Window 7, I can see that IPv4 Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1, IPv4 DHCP server is on 192.168.1.30 but IPv DNS server is on 68.x.x.x It is not pointing to my DNS which should be the same as the DHCP server (192.168.1.30). I am not sure what went wrong as in if there is a mis-configuration in sonicwall firewall/router or the DNS server at 192.168.1.30.

I can see my client PC is not talking to the local DNS server 192.168.1.30 but instead on 68.x.x.x my ISP. Is there a way to configure in order to ensure my client PC will ask my local DNS first if no information can be found then forward to the DNS of my ISP and so forth?  I have set my TCP/IPv4 to Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Is there a way to set obtain IP and DNS server automatically rather than set those to static?
