My Hyper V VM cannot get out to the internet. I setup a Hyper V lab with multiple server 2012\16 machines. I originally set them up on the private switch because I didnt think I would need the internet. I decided I needed it so I switch it to the external switch and they can still see each other but just not get out to the internet.

One of my VM's which I setup with the external switch when I installed it, still gets out to the internet. Just the ones im changing from a private switch to external wont work. Is there something I am missing?
Can someone provide the name of some open source software that can assist with web utilization, os utilization virtualization and security vulnerabilities. It does not have to be all the same software. This is for linux and windows OS.

I am trying to deploy a .msp file. I need to do this as we have migrated from on-Prem Exchange to O365 and we had used MS Office customisation tool in order to configure settings including automatically creating an outlook profile that points to the on-Prem exchange server. Now that we have migrated, it is causing issues with the outlook profile re-configuring.

Office is built into our MDT Image, so removing it from the office installation would be a giant PITA.

I have created a new OCT MSP file and when installing it manually it re-configures office and all works great. My problem is now deploying this file to all workstations. I have created a batch file with the below command.

msiexec.exe /p "\\sbpsfile01\School\School\Apps\Deploy\OfficeCustom\OfficeConfigRemove.MSP" REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=omus /qn

I have also tried using DFS path.

The policy is applied under computer configuration and the computers are in the OU that the policy is in.

Any help would be much appreciated.

We have a deployment containing a number of computers that are used by shift workers, and so have chosen to use Microsoft device CALs rather than user CALs.  However, rather than just counting the number of users, we now need to count devices and it's unclear which devices require device CALs.  It's obvious that the computers do, but what about:

  • Printers (including multi-function models)
  • Switches (including smart switches)
  • Routers (that may authenticate VPN users against the Active Directory)
  • Wireless access points (that authenticate users against the AD)

How can we determine whether CALs are required for these devices?
I have a Server 2016 Hyper-V base server with 6 Server 2016 Hyper-V virtual machines that I need to backup.

What is the best Veritas Backup Exec product and licenses to purchase for performing this kind of backup?

Will purchasing Backup Exec from the URL below allow me to do a complete backup of this server or will I need to purchase additional licenses or options?
I have several Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices on my network which all support iSCSI.

How can I setup Microsoft Data Protection Manager to backup to one of these NAS devices? Can this be done by installing and using iSCSI Target Server?

Or can I do this by creating a virtual VHDX disk that is stored on the network share of this NAS?

I understand this will probably take special configuration within Server 2016 to connect to the NAS device using iSCSI and I am hoping to get all the steps on how to do this.

Newly released Acronis True Image 2019

In announcing the release of the 15th Anniversary Edition of Acronis True Image 2019, the company revealed that its artificial intelligence-based anti-ransomware technology – stopped more than 200,000 ransomware attacks on 150,000 customers last year.

I have just installed Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2016.

What are the steps to install the DPM client on a Server 2016 Hyper-V base server and its Hyper-V virtual servers?

Then what are the steps to configure the DPM to backup to a NAS?
I am struggling to get RDS functioning on a SBS 2011 network with attached Windows 2016 sever.  Here's what happened.  Joined the W2016 server to the SBS domain, and installed 50 RDS license on the W2016 server and the RDS Licensing role, on recommendation that the primary DC should not also be the RDS Licensing server.  Things appeared to work for a while (possibly becuase within the 180day RDS licence grace period).   Then as a separtae issue, multiple overnight (8hr) power outgaes caused AD corruption and the need to make a fresh install of SBS2011 server, join the W2016 server to the "new" SBS domain.

1) Now the RDS licenses are shown as present, but not active, it seems that I need to revoke them, tell Microsoft why, and then re-install them?
2) The overall objective is to have our remote office users access line of business applications that are installed on the W2016 sever via RDS.  I don't understand which roles should be with the SBS2011 DC and which roles with the W2016 server:   RD Gateway, RD Web Access, RD Session Host, RD Connection Broker.

I attach some screen shots of what we have.   Guidance would be appreciated!

At the very beginning of installing Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2016 on a Server 2016 server I receive the error shown in the screenshot, "An unexpected error occurred during the installation. For more details, check the DPM Setup error logs. ID: 4387."

The SQL 2016 server is installed on the same physical server where I am attempting to install DOM 2016. All Windows updates have been installed on this server.

I am following the steps in from the website to install DPM.

The server where I have installed SQL 2016 and am installing DPM 2016 is a physical Server 2016 server that doesn't have any other roles or features installed on it besides SQL 2016.

What can I do to fix this issue so I will be able to successfully install DPM?

Attached are the DPM Setup logs from this server (below the screenshot).

I have an SSRS report that looks like:2018-08-30-Contact-Overlap-Repeat-He.jpgThe report is correctly grouping on Program and County and each new occurance is going to a new page.
But I cannot seem to get any of the column headers (the yellow is hidden in the report view)  to repeat on new pages.

I've tried various combinations of Group Properties and "static" properties but cannot seem to get this right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an SSRS report that in design view looks like:contact overlapand in report view looks like:with dataWhat I would like to do is reformat this so that the Program Name and County show up on the same line, and the Staff Name value would show up right below (not offset) the Program and County.

I assume I can modify my group to group on both ProgramName and CountyName, but how would I reformat this so that the Staff name falls immediately below the Primary Group heading?
I have a Windows 2012 R2 Domain that I'm having some authentication issues with.  The problem is, when users leave the office with their laptops the laptop will not authenticate their local account.  This isn't a cache issue as they can log into their machine, but when they launch any application that requires authentication back to our servers it is not trusted and requires them to re-enter their credentials to use it.

Outlook 2016
SSO Apps  (Acronis Access)
ADFS (any of the adfs apps we use require re-authentication)

Inside the domain, all of these work normally and do not require any separate password but once I disconnect and put my laptop on a hotspot or take it home, it starts prompting for password.  I am looking into it being related to kerberos but i'm not 100% and thought I would reach out to the group to see if anyone else has seen this and know what I should look at.  If this is as expected then it really causes a lot of headaches for some of the apps, acronis access for instance just runs in the background like dropbox and syncs but as soon as they leave the office it stops working since the setting is to use the local computer account.  For Outlook, if I type my password at the prompt, it logs me in just fine.

I have a lab VM environment on my PC. It does not have internet access, just access to the other VM's in the lab. I need to download some software then transfer the install files to the VM. What is the best way to do this? Its a 2012 server Hyper V environment.

Or is there a way I can get the VM's to connect to my PC wireless to get to the internet? I did it at work with Hyper V but I had to use a network port for each VM.
What steps do I need to take to change the internet routing settings so that internet traffic is routed through an Always On VPN connection (whenever I am connected to the Always On VPN)?

Can this be done by configuring proxy server settings on the Windows 10 client computer that is connected to the Always On VPN connection?

I need to be sure that I can still connect to the internet whenever I am not connected to the Always On VPN.

Prepare for the CompTIA Network+ exam by learning how to troubleshoot, configure, and manage both wired and wireless networks.

How do I  get current logged in user to be used as parameter in a report so I can implement row level security on dataset?
I just implemented Microsoft Always On VPN within my Server 2016 network.

However, I am finding that I am not able to connect to this VPN from many places including public guest Wi-Fi networks. When trying to connect I get an error message saying that "The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding. This could be because one of the network devices (e.g. firewalls, NAT, routers, etc) between your computer and the remote server is not configured to allow VPN connections. Please contact your Administrator or your service provider to determine which device may be causing the problem."

So far I have only been able to successfully connect to this Always On VPN network in around 15% of the places where I have tried connecting. Whenever I am unable to connect I receive the error message mentioned above and shown in the screenshot. Otherwise, everything works great as long as I am able to successfully connect.

So is it possible to change the ports that Direct Access VPN is using to more commonly used ports (such as 80 and 443) that won't be blocked and then using NAT or some other technique if necessary to convert these ports back to their original port numbers? The firewall that is being used in this network is a SonicWALL TZ600.

ReportServer Subscriptions -- We migrated ReportServer to ReportServerNEW with a simple backup/restore -- on the SAME server.  When we restored ReportServerNEW, we also used the encryption key from the source ReportServer instance, and all reports are accessible now in the new SSRS instance, Report Manager.

But -- what about the subscriptions?  How do I know they are good?  They may be fine, because I used the steps outlined here for the move:

WHERE it says:    "Subscriptions, cached reports, and snapshots are preserved in the moved database. If a snapshot is not picking up refreshed data after the database is moved, clear the snapshot options in Report Manager, click Apply to save your changes, re-create the schedule, and click Apply again to save your changes."

I just don't know how to confirm.  What is the right way to confirm that the subscriptions are all scheduled/enabled/on in the new instance, after migrating the ReportServer database?
Please provide me with guides on implementing & configuring Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) backup within a Server 2016 Hyper-V environment that has a Server 2016 base server and 6 Hyper-V virtual servers & that will be backing up to a NAS.

I need to make sure I can successfully restore the entire base server and all virtual servers if necessary so that no configurations or data is lost in the event of a restore.

Hi All,

Hope this is the right place to post this. Im picking up some SCCM work but its been a while since have been near a SCCM setup, so please bear with me.

I have an issue where after deploying an application I have realised the boundaries groups may not be up to date or setup correctly. The problem I have is that if a machine is using an IP address that is not configured as a boundary, it will not connect to a DP. What I need - because hundreds of IP address ranges we have - is some kind of fallback rule that if the client falls outside of the boundary address groups that it will default to the default site. At the moment this isnt happening.

I thought this was what the default-site-boundary-group did? but this group is greyed out and has no group members, and apparently this is default?
