Hello -

I am looking for a way to push GPO software installation policy to only specific computers.  Assign the software installation policy to the machine, as opposed to the user. I have a multi-domain (forest) running server 2012 R2 and all OU structure is the same except obviously domain name.

- Distro groups (OU)
- Fax Server Groups (OU)
- location Servers (OU)
- Workstations MAC (OU)
- Workstations PC (OU)
- Domain Controllers (OU)
- Logon Account All (OU)

The systems are located within our existing computer OU and user OU. Now, specific computer accounts will be assigned GPO modulex86 and GPO modulex64. I am using SCCM to identify my computers office version (x86 or x64). Once I compile a list, the idea is to push out the proper GPO to them. This is where I get stuck. What is the best way to accomplish this? Should I modify GPO delegation and only allow group of computers? This means I will have to remove computer accounts from existing OU and not sure if that is wise as we have them organized within specific OUs right now.

Do I use WMI Filtering? If so, how?

Hope this makes sense. I'd like to understand how to organize these GPOs without complicating the system. I appreciate your help!

I need to mount a ISO in 2008 server. Anybody have a free good tool to use?

I'm running Exchange Server 2013 SP1 that was losing its 1.9 TB Database disk for 2 hours, and then back online again all in a sudden.

So the timing is like:

9:00 PM - 9:30 PM, I am doing my change to delete the oversized Mail.que:
1. Go to services.msc and Pause the Microsoft Exchange Transport service.
2. Run “Get-Queue | ft -AutoSize” and ensure all pending messages are clearing out to be very minimal under 10.
3. Stop the Microsoft Exchange Transport service
4. Set Microsoft Exchange Transport service to "Disabled"
5. Rename mail.queue file
6. Set Microsoft Exchange Transport service to "Automatic"
7. Reboot the Exchange server
8. Run “Get-Queue | ft -AutoSize” and ensure all pending messages are clearing out.

after the reboot, the Windows Server is rebooting itself again, but then this time its worst, the D:\ drive where all of the Exchange mailbox DB went missing due to the D:\ drive has become RAW instead of NTFS for about 2-2.5 hours.

11:45 PM yesterday, the D:\ drive is mysteriously back online again as NTFS drive, all emails are flowing back as normal.

But then I've got some users more than half reporting that they are missing their yesterday's email even before the maintenance window yesterday at 9:00 PM ?

The email today is working fine from everyone, but some of my users did lose their yesterday emails?

Looking through Exchange Transaction logs, I can see some emails within the outage window:

What is the best way in the easiest way to set this up.

They are trying to have the capability to add, modify, I am delete folders and files inside of a network share, but are doing so from the computer not registered to a domain.

The user RDP 's to the Server as an Admin, but the file work is done from local machine
Does anyone know why a domain user not able to RDP to machine. I have added the person under group " Remote Desktop Users" on the server itself. Everytime i try to login i get message saying ""to Sign in remotely you need the right to sign  in through RDS etc..."

Unless i make user Local Admin on server, it doesnt work. However i dont want to make them Local admin. Just be able to RDP to server.
I have an Active Directory server (2012 R2) that has two active ethernet adapters in it.  One is for serving the network, and is on the 172.16.x.y network.  The other is ONLY used for out-of-band backup, and is on the 10.144.100.y network.

The problem I am having is that even AFTER removing the selection from properties on the 2nd adapter to NOT register in DNS, AND after turning off both "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the 2nd adapter, it STILL keeps showing up in DNS, and I have to go in and manually delete it, only to have it show up again an hour or so later.

How do I PERMANENTLY keep this from happening?

Thank you very much in advance,
Hi Guys,

How do i adjust the 'Share' Permissions on one folder in DFS on Server 2012 R2?
We have a domain( .. We have a trusted domain( that uses the secondary DNS server as a conditional forwarder but cannot do a nslookup to it. They can nslookup to our domain( but not to the child domain(

I hope that makes sense. Do I need to have them point to the DNS server that holds the primary zone?
I have 2 HYPERV host servers.

HYPERV2 is hosting  SBS2011 server and TERMINAL server.

(besides I have another domain controller and  approx 20 workstations)

I had hardware issues with the HYPERV2 host server and had to rebuild it with MS Server 2016 standard (It was MS Server 2012 R2 before)
I use Altaro for backup of the virtual machines.

I restored (or rather imported from backup) my main server Sbs2011 (Small Business Server 2011)

Now after the restore I have issues with connectivity to this server.

The server seemed to be restored correctly, but when I want to connect to shared folder on the Sbs2011 from another server I get following message:

"\\sbs2011\share is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permission.
Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect"

I thought that possibly rejoining the domain will fix the issue, but when I try to do that I get:

"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain":
Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect."

It looks like I have no issues connecting to the SBS2011 by IP address.
I also noticed that after the reboot the SBS2011 netlogon service is paused and time service is not started.
They start manually without issues.

Well I am stuck - please help.

Consider the following scenario:

Customer wants to deploy a new lab hypervisor running a Intel Kabylake family CPU.  They want to install Server 2016 on it, which supports Kabylake.  However, the guests they want to run on this hypervisor are 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2, and Kabylake doesn't support those.  Will the guests be unable to obtain Windows updates, as documented in this article?

"The processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using" error when you scan or download Windows updates

I connected to a random Server 2008 R2 VM on the current lab hypervisor, and ran msinfo32 on that guest.  Sure enough, I can see that an Intel Xeon E5645 CPU has been detected as the system's processor.  So it seems guests are aware of what specific hardware they're running on, and I won't be able to get updates?
Hey Guys,

How can i rename a folder on the server? It is currently shared
We just bought some scale computing servers, and are running our VMs on Microsoft 2008 R2 and 2012 R2.
We were running HP servers with Microsoft Datacenter for the host servers, which allowed us to have an unlimited amount of VMs.  Now since we're not running Microsoft on our Host servers, do I have to buy an individual server OS license for each VM?
please can you advise?
What is differences between MSDN Subscriptions/downloads and The Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC)?
We have a current 2012 virtualized file server. We want to setup it up as a DC\DNS server. Does anyone see an issue with this?
I would like someone to explain to me the different types of Windows 10 that are available and their meaning.

For example, Windows 10 Home - Pretty much for home users
                        Windows 10 Pro - For business/home users

After these two versions I have seen Education, Pro Education, Enterprise LTSB, Mobile Enterprise, NTRL, Education N, Enterprise N, Windows Pro N, NTRL Multilanguage App Update and Language Pack, MLF, VLSC.

What's the difference between all of these versions of Windows 10? Is one better than the other? Is their a "best" out of all of these?
Hi People,

Can anyone please clarify if the steps below is correct to replace the vNIC from e1000 to VMXNet 3 with no reboot required on Windows Server2008 R2 and2012 R2 ?

1. RDP to the VM and get all IP address using IPConfig /All
2. Remove the adapter open Device Manager and expand the Network adapters category. Next right-click the Intel adapter and from the menu select Uninstall.
3. Go to the VM | Edit Settings and Remove the current vNIC from the VM and add the VMXNET3-adapter.
4. Re-assign the IP address to the VM from Steps #1
5. Install the most updated VMware tools and don't click on restart.

Note: the VM is currently running SQL Server but with e1000 for both VM Network and iSCSI network connected to Distributed vSwitch,

Would that make sense?
We have about five remote users that connect from the field using Remote Desktop to be able to access information in designated folders.

These users need to have the ability copy for transfer the files back to the local machines. How would I set this up.

I have created mapped drives via AD GPO. Drive T: is a departmental drive with folders for each department and sub folders.

\\Server\Department\Human Resources

Currently a user can see and have access to all the folders.

I want to restrict a user, but to only see a his / her desired folder within the parent folder T:

i.e \\Server\Department\Marketing only, without IT and Human Resources.
For a the past few weeks I have been having an issue with a server and in need of some help to figure out what's going on.

Machine in question:
Windows Server 2016 on Hyper-V
6 cores
Host has 10G Network card
Machine is also a DC
Primary function is file server

I found out about this problem when the backups were failing. The server was unable to connect to the networked BDR. Ping to the BDR worked fine but resolving to the admin portal via a browser fails. Rebooting the server fixes the issue and it returns to working perfectly fine for several hours until it errors out. Typically this has been about 7-10 hours.

On the last failure Task Manager was saying I have 0% CPU usage and -1% memory usage... Resource monitor was more reasonable and said 10-15% CPU and 31% RAM. Network utilization was below 100Kbps and Disk usage below 100 KB/s. I couldn't ping anything with cmd or powershell. The command simply does not run. The cursor blinks indefinitely (At least for several hours). Yet I could remotely connect to the machine via ScreenConnect and access the shared network folders on the server from another PC on the same network.  The server is also pretty slow compared to what it normally is and other VMs on the same host with less resources are running fine. Also, while I was able to remotely connect to the computer via ScreenConnect I could not with the Hyper-V Manager connection. The window opened and I could interact with the system (click, type) but …
Hello Experts.
We have migrated from 2010 to 2016 exchange.
My Systems are German, sorry for eventually wrong translated System-names.
Internal Users could not connect "server store is not available" except if the connect with activated Anywhere connection.
Maybe a hint could be that the serverroles in ECP doesn't show the client Access- and HUB-Transport-roles for the new 2016. The 2010 have this roles.
I also found another strange problem:
if I want to configure the "External Domain Connect" in ECP / Server / Virtual directory / "the little tool-Symbol" and press the + Symbol there are no Elements to coose.
But I don't know if this does matter.
Thanks for quick Answers.
