I set a group policy to allow remote desktop only from inside the network.

I set up some users to establish a VPN connection to the server’s VPN, with windows VPN service.

Will they be able to remote into their computer with remote desktop, once they establish a VPN connection, will they be considered as part from the network so the group policy will allow them to remote to their computer?

Create a reliable backup. Make sure you always have dependable copies of your data so you can restore your entire system or individual files.

I am trying to convert height in inches to feet and inches to display on a SSRS 2012 report  like 5"8'  from 69.00 inches. I have the formula below that isn't showing up correctly the digits to the right of the decimal. For 69.00, it shows 5"0'.

HGT = concat(convert(int,min(HGTTO)/12),  '"', convert(int,min(HGTTO)/12) % 1,'''')

Thanks

People,

I need some help in modifying the below PowerShell script so that it can be used to check which folder, the specified user account does not have access to.

We are testing the following scenario for a classroom.
We have a thin client that will be used in a meeting room. The thin client will be connected to a monitor and also connected to a big LED display.
I have two questions:
1.      How can we connect to a remote desktop session on either a client or a server desktop using a thin client?
2.      Will two displays work over a RDP session.
Do we need something like citrix Xendesktop or vmware horizons for getting this scenario work. or can I connect a thin client directly to a demote deskop.

What are the steps to create a Server 2016 Group policy to prevent Wi-Fi & cellular connections on Windows client computers?

I need to prevent all client computers from being able to establish internet connections using Wi-Fi or cellular connections using either the computer's built-in hardware or a peripheral device that can be plugged into the computer's system board or connected with USB.

Hello - I am a Microsoft Access developer trying to learn SQL Server Reporting Services.

I already have SQL Server 2017 Express installed on my laptop, as a backend for some Access applications; everything is fine there, no problems.

I have downloaded and installed SSRS 2017, but am having a hard time working my way through the Report Server Configuration Manager.

I don't have a clue about these settings, and the articles I have found do not go into enough detail for me to know if I am setting this up right or not.

Can anyone point me to a more comprehensive guide to getting SSRS up & running on a laptop (W10) as a stand-alone environment (if that is even possible or advisable)?

Also, I don't see a Report Builder version for 2017; would it be better if I fell back to SQL Server and SSRS 2016, and worked with those versions?

Thanks

query performance question.  I have a query that uses multiple databases(the databases are all on the same instance of sql).  The query takes about a minute to complete.  This is acceptable, but when ssrs runs off this dataset, it is painfully slow.   4 to 5 minutes to render.

1) is it normal for there to be a drop off in the speed of ssrs displaying the results as compared to the actual speed of the query in ssms.  I suspect there should be but, is 4 to 5 times something that i should be wary of?

The NAS is domain joined.

When I connect either by hostname, or by IP I get the network error that windows cannot access…

I am able to ping it by name and IP.

Visual Studio 2015, SSDT, Report Authoring, Windows 10

I am having a very difficult time getting my VS2015 installation to include SSDT and Reporting Authoring Extension (for Fetxchxml).  I have tried suggestions from the web, Stack Overflow and downloaded several versions of SSDT and Report Authoring Extensions.  I have uninstalled versions that didnt work, rebooted and tried again.

I am thinking that if I can get the versions from someone where all three components are working on Windows, I should be able to get this working.  I have had this working on other laptops, older versions of VS and other operating systems.

My environment is:
Dell Latitude i7 | 64-bit processor | x64 processor
Windows 10  | Version 1803  |Build 17134.167
Visual Studio Professional 2015  | Version 14.0.25431.01 Update 3

As for SSDT, not having a lot of problems installing this; it is where I try to install the Report Authoring Extensions that I encounter problems.  I am able to get the RAE wizard to run (to failure) using the advice from this link: http://meganvwalker.com/creating-fetch-xml-reports-using-visual-studio/

When the RAE install fails it tells me that SSDT is not installed; I have tried many versions of SSDT, SSDT-BI, BIDS and Report Authoring starting with the VS2015 versions (and earlier versions).

I am just spinning my wheels.

Thank you.

Good Day Experts!

I have quite the dilemma here.  I have designed my query and it works fine in SMS.  I am trying to go some grouping on the report but perhaps it is not possible.  So can you give me your feedback please?

I have my query in an embedded dataset.  Now I want to run several different grouping patterns over the resulting Student data.

1)  Group by grade with the count of students in each grade
2) Group by teacher with a count of how many students for each teacher
3) Group by gender with a count of how many male or female

I was think it would be "neat" if I could have multiple tables on the report for each Item. One table for the Grade counts, one table for the teacher counts and one table for the gender counts.

If this is not possible, I am open to other design solutions as I am new to SSRS reporting.

Thanks,

I'm needing to find when an order is on time.  The issue is some orders can have items that are considered on time while other items are not.  I need to find when the whole order is on time.

select order_no, item_id, CASE WHEN (DATEDIFF(dd, dateadd(day,1, requested_date), ship_date)) <= 0 THEN '1' END AS item_on_time
from sales_history
GROUP BY order_no, item_id, requested_date, ship_date

So below is what I'm needing which would be column D

10 Tips to Protect Your Business from Ransomware

Did you know that ransomware is the most widespread, destructive malware in the world today? It accounts for 39% of all security breaches, with ransomware gangsters projected to make $11.5B in profits from online extortion by 2019.

I have an SSRS data set which returns columns: ClientName, Date, Description, and Miles based on a number of parameters.  I have assigned this dataset as the source for a tablix in my report but cannot figure out how to configure the tablix to get the output to look similar to:

Hey folks - I'm trying to determine, how Windows creates the GUID for a given disk volume.   What are the various components / sections of a given volume GUID, and what is each section referring too, in a typical hyphen separated volume GUID like this:
26a21bda-a627-11d7-9931-806e6f6e6963

Secondarily, and the reason I'm trying to determine this, is to figure out why so often, the C:\ volume GUID ends in "6963" on many Windows installs.   Since GUID's are intended to be largely unique, I'm assuming something with how these GUID's are created, so very often leads to the C:\ GUID ending in 6963?  Which seems like a fairly random number to end with - yet if you google 6963 GUID you'll see how very common it is indeed!  I work with disk images of servers at my job and see the volume GUID's for hundreds of servers per week, and the fact that they're so often ending in 6963 has had me curious far too often.

In fact, multiple of Microsoft's own articles, like this one, contain  GUID ending in 6963:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/fileio/naming-a-volume

I have been searching around, and have found very little in the way of an explanation as to how these GUID's are created for disk volumes specifically, and/or why 6963 is so often the ending string, especially for C:\ partitions.

Thank you in advance!

I had to change my login in active directory.  After doing that all of my SSRS (2008 R2) subscriptions wouldn't run because the previous AD entry didn't exist.  I had a tool to make those changes, but I still have the same issue when I create a new subscription.  It says my AD login isn't recognized.  How do I change that?  I've googled it and found some hits, but nothing quite explains how to fix the issue for new subscriptions.  Can I just go to the users table and change the old login to the new login?

I have a server with roaming profiles and folder redirection. The roaming pointing to a roaming folder on the server and the redirecting [desktop and my documents] to a user folder.

1 – Not on all computers the folders are redirected.

2 – Now I have a computer that already was redirected and now the desktop location when back to the roaming folder but without the desktop information, [the desktop is empty].

Hi all,
I'm having a problem reading in an RDLC xml file.  My purpose is to collect information about the dataset(s), e.g. Dataset Name and Table name.
I've been dealing with xml projects for decades and for some reason every piece of code I try returns nothing.
Try
            Dim xmlDOC As New XmlDocument()
            xmlDOC.Load(XMLFILE)

Dim nodeList As XmlNodeList = xmlDOC.SelectNodes("/Report/DataSets/DataSet")
            MsgBox(nodeList.Count)
For Each node As XmlNode In nodeList
                MsgBox("DataSet Name: " & node("Name").InnerText)
            Next

        Catch ex As Exception
            MsgBox(ex.Message)
        End Try
