Microsoft Sharepoint is a software platform and family of software products used for collaboration and web publishing combined. These capabilities include developing web sites, portals, intranets, content management systems, search engines, wikis, blogs, and other tools for business intelligence and collaboration. SharePoint has a Microsoft Office-like interface, and it is closely integrated with the Office suite.

I am trying to develop a Sharepoint 2013 feature to add several navigation nodes in the top navigation bar of the web site on which the feature is activated. To achieve this, I have overriden only the FeatureActivated method of the event receiver. In case the feature is activated in a top level site, only two navigation nodes would be added to the bar (the main page node and the current site node). But if the feature is activated within a subsite, three navigation nodes should be added instead (main page, current site and subsite). My source code is as follows:

    public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)
    {

        SPWeb web = (SPWeb)properties.Feature.Parent;

        SPNavigationNode node = new SPNavigationNode("Main", "http://homepage", true);
        web.Navigation.TopNavigationBar.AddAsLast(node);

        if (!web.IsRootWeb)
        {
            SPNavigationNode node1 = new SPNavigationNode("Site 1", web.ParentWeb.Url, true);
            web.Navigation.TopNavigationBar.AddAsLast(node1);
        }

        SPNavigationNode node2 = new SPNavigationNode("Site 2", web.Url, true);
        web.Navigation.TopNavigationBar.AddAsLast(node2);

    }

Open in new window

The problem I'm facing is that, when activated, the feature only adds the first ("Main") navigation node. I decided to remove the if statement and deploy the following code for testing purposes:

    public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)
    {

        SPWeb web = (SPWeb)properties.Feature.Parent;

        SPNavigationNode node = new SPNavigationNode("Main", "http://homepage", true);
        web.Navigation.TopNavigationBar.AddAsLast(node);

        SPNavigationNode node2 = new SPNavigationNode("Site 2", web.Url, true);
        web.Navigation.TopNavigationBar.AddAsLast(node2);

    }

Open in new window

But again, only the first navigation node ("Main") was added. That made me think that the code was probably throwing an error when retrieving the url. Because of that, I decided to deploy the following code that basically puts null instead of an actual url and uses the web site url as the display name for both site and subsite nodes, just for the sake of testing:

I want to use something like the following in a SharePoint Online add-in to delay the firing of resetPage():

$(document).ready(function () {
  SP.SOD.executeFunc('sp.js', 'SP.ClientContext', function () {
          resetPage();
  });
}); //  document ready

Open in new window

but get the error "Uncaught ReferenceError: SP is not defined(…)"

What reference do I need or should I use another approach?

Thank you!

When using JavaScript in SharePoint and dealing with items/rows of data from a few hundred to thousands, what is the best and most efficient and fastest way to work with the data?  Should it be dumped in an array and worked with that way or .......?

How do you SharePoint developers or even database developers programmatically deal with thousand of rows/items of data?

I need to set a formatting mask for users in an InfoPath 2010 form.  The SharePoint field receiving the data is called SR Number.  It is a single line of text with a maximum of 12 characters.  When the InfoPath form is presented, I need to force the user to enter the information in the SR Number field in this format 9-9999999999.  It must contain 12 characters.  Is there a way to set a formatting mask?

Can an Excel spreadsheet be used to update a SharePoint list by an automated process ?  That is, the automation will compare the two sets of data (Excel spreadsheet and the SharePoint list) and where there are rows in the spreadsheet not found in the list, those rows will be added to the list.  Thanks.

I have a CBT file that is in HTML format. I need to upload it to SharePoint for users to access but HTML files aren't compatible or do not launch from within SharePoint. I tried converting the file to mht but that isn't working either. After the conversion I receive a PKI authentication error. Is there any other non coded way I can convert these files to something that will work on SharePoint.

Hi Folks,
We have a server running Sharepoint 2013 on Windows 2012 R2.  Content Database was setup SQL2008 Express. Content DB has grown close to limit 10GB.

I am researching options.

Installing SQL Standard on the SharePoint server is an option, however keen to know if it is possible to move the Content DB to our seperate SQL Cluster instead (Our SQL cluster is made up of 2 x servers running SQL 2014 Enterprise (Availability Group).

I have been googling this and so far not finding much that matches.

Many thanks for help

I am planning on building a new SharePoint server, and could use some assistance with the migration

My current server is Windows Server 2008 R2, SharePoint 2013 with SQL Express 2008.

My new server is Server 2012 R2, SharePoint 2013 with SQL 2012.

What is the easiest way or any helpful guides out there, to migrate this from one server to another.

I am asked with this migration and the requirements are as follows:

 - they want to take this in phases and simply move their G drive ( shared directory) to Sharepoint and keep all of the same file folder structures and permissions.  They don't want to have any of the "fancy" work flows and features yet as it would be a culture shock.

- they want the sharepoint directory to be a drive as if it was a network share.

Anyone have any good ideas for the above.  I have been researching and thought asking here would be helpful as well.

Hello this morning I am finding myself in a bit of a pickle within my sharepoint site whenever I use the search feature.

1. In search field, typed out "test" to do a generic search

2. Received a page that spit back the following message :  (YOURNAME) Sharepoint

Sorry, something went wrong.

Any ideas on how to resolve properly? My server is Windows 2012 R2 Standard and I believe we are on SP1 Sharepoint Foundation 2013.
When I went into IIS I notice an application pool was stopped which had five applications tied to it. When I started and then checked the event viewer, here is what I found.

Hi,

At my SCOM I can see this alert:

A critical incident has occurred where a SharePoint Health Analyzer (SPHA) Rule Monitor detected SPHA Availability Rule failure.
FarmID: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
RuleName: Content databases contain orphaned items.
FilterValue: Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Health.ContentOrphans
Status: ERROR
Explanation: In some situations, a content database that is used by Microsoft SharePoint Foundation may become corrupted. The corrupted database may contain orphaned items. For example, a document may not have a parent document library or a list may not have a parent Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web site. Consequently, you may be unable to create new items with the same URL as the orphaned items, and space in the content database will be consumed unnecessarily.
Remedy: Enabling automatic repair for this rule will delete the orphaned items. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142694".
FailingServers:
FailingServices: SPTimerService (SPTimerV4)

Any idea?

Regards

I have a backup of my SharePoint database server and I'm looking to just restore the database
at file level and browse the documents inside to extract the one I want.  I believe there are tools to
do this and I was wondering which is the best one.

Yesterday I was using trying to migrate a calendar from an old sharepoint 2013 site to a new sharepoint 2013 site. I found a site saying to save the calendar as a template with the data and then move it to the new server and add it. So I tried it. I was able to export the calendar list successfully and move it to the new server but was never able to get it loaded on the new server.

Anyway, now, for some reason, Neither the old server or the new server will load correctly. Even in Safe mode it won't load. Neither will the Central Administrator. I can't imagine what happened? One server is 2008 R2 and the new server 2012 R2

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am very VERY new to the InfoPath (in fact this is the first task I've been given). We have livestock farms where there is no internet connectivity. Our farm managers need to be able to complete a form using a tablet device and submit the data (which I assume will be stored locally), then when they get back to an area with connectivity, the form will upload to our SharePoint library.

What I have done so far. Create the form template in InfoPath. I have published it to SharePoint and selected the relevant offline settings in Form Options (as per attached screenshot).

When I go to my document library in SharePoint, I can click New->Form and I am presented with the form that I can complete and submit. The completed form shows up in the same document library.

Now how do I get this onto their tablet so that they can complete it offline? (I do have InfoPath Filler installed on the tablet).

Thanks in advance.

I've created a document library inside a SharePoint Foundation 2013 site. I have broken inheritance to the folder and assigned a single user.  However, everyone in the company can still access, modify, rename, delete, everything in the document library.  Doesn't make any sense.

I've even gone as far as removing everyone from the permissions of the document library, and it still allows everyone into it.

Thoughts ?

What is the best non-coded solution for incorporating a relational database in SharePoint 2013?

Would it be Access because it is a Microsoft product or are there other ways of doing this?

And how labor intensive would it be to create and maintain?

I have a calendar list in a SharePoint 2010 enterprise site which uses a few other calendars as overlays. How can I view all those calendars together in list view?

We have a Sharepoint 2013 team services site (hosted internally) and a subsite that I would like to extend to another server within the same domain. The first server is in the USA and the other server is overseas in Europe, for speed I would like to extend the site to both A. The Internet and B. a server in the Europe site.

Whats the best way to do this? There are a lot of articles online that don't seem 100% relevant.

thanks,

Steve

About a month ago I opened a similar question on how to setup Sharepoint auditing https://www.experts-exchange.com/myKnowledgebaseView.jsp?knowledgebaseEntryId=263596

The problem is I am not that great in sharepoint and ending up still having questions with the links that were provided after the fact.

My main sharepoint 2010 site is something like sharepoint.domain.com  management wants to enable auditing to see who is accessing one site and what they access. For example the site would be like sharepoint.domain.com/site1.

Is there a step-by-step guide to set this up from the ground up?

Hi,

I've created an overlay calendar. It's a combination of 4 calendars and the color coded to reflect each calendar. How can I update/add any of those calendars from the multiple view without going to each calendar? I don't want a calendar pop up in a new window.
Thank you.
