A miscellany is defined as a "collection of various pieces of writing by different authors", but it has come to mean something "Of items gathered or considered together of various types or from different sources" or "a collection or group composed of members or elements of different kinds". The word "miscellaneous" comes from the Latin word "miscere", meaning "to mix." You might have heard the expression "a mixed bag," which applies when you don't quite know what you're going to get. More commonly, a miscellaneous group is made up of an odd group of things that don't fit anywhere else.

I started watching the course of the month and the instructor repeatedly mentions a book but I cannot find any information pertaining to any book. Please tell me about this book. Thanks, Cliff

Hello Fellow Experts!

I work with service dogs, and our family dog is a breeding dog for the program who is about to have her first litter.

I had the Idea of having her litters be named using a theme of Computers/Technology/Video games.

To do this we need to think of three (3) categories with Fifteen (15) names each that collectively fit this theme.

I need your help narrowing down categories, and coming up with more names for the categories we decide to use.

For example, I got the Idea for this by thinking it would be fun to name dogs these names:
  • Packet
  • Port
  • Socket

The program's organizer liked this Idea and said the would love to have a dog named TeraByte.

However, as I think of names they tend to come from all over and I can see multiple ways of categorizing them, and I tend to be picking names from all over as one big list making it hard to split up.

Here are some ways of Categorizing which I was considering:
  • Network/Internet Terms
  • Communication Software/Services
  • Productivity Software
  • Computer/Console Hardware
  • PC and Video Games
  • Technology professions and terms

Lets discuss which of these are good and whether there are others that might be better.

Here are additional names I have thought of, as you can see they could be categorized many ways:
  • MegaByte/MegaBit
  • FTP
  • email
  • twitter
  • hashtag
  • SQL (Pronounced Sequel) -- I figure we have to put the pronunciation down for anything not obvious to a non-technical person)
  • Java
  • Powershell
  • Sega
  • Atari

Hello and Good Afternoon Everyone,

I am wondering where I can go online at mtsu.edu to check Middle Tennessee State University's Master Plan for future developments.   It is my understanding MTSU does list a master plan which goes up to 10 years.  I am curious about the master plan because of a variety of properties acquired by MTSU and their future use.

If this will help, the home page of MTSU does have an A-Z index link or tab for quick access to their services, organizations, and a huge variety of other things of potential interest.  Unfortunately, I am not exactly sure what I am looking for here though.

Any feedback given in reply to this question will be deeply appreciated.

            Thank you

            George

I have been in iT for 22 years, doing web development for 16 years.

I have had many recent short stays at past employers (these were not contracts, but permanent hires that just didn't work-out).  Some of them were company-wide layoffs I had no blame or control over.  Some of them were startups that missed their next round of funding.  Some of them I quit, I felt, for good reasons.  But the experience I obtained at each company was real and I want to capture that while de-emphasizing the fact that I was only there for 8 months.

How can I handle this so that the experience gets emphasized over the length of time at each company?

I am getting sooooo tired of answering "So why did you leave this company?" when I sit down to interview.

Hello -

I'm hiring for an IT support Tech II position, and I'm looking for some pre-employment testing or questions I can put together to give all my interviewees.  We're a non-profit and would prefer to not have to pay for something. Any suggestions of help would be appreciated.

I use a microcontroller to generate a sine wave. The microcontroller has a serial port (UART) and sends the digital generated data to a serial port of the PC. I use a USB to RS232 TTL adapter.
I can see the data on PC using serial port terminal software.
The data is sent using 115200 baud rate and has the format 8 bit, odd, 2 bit of stop.
I have tested several serial port programs. Among them are RealTerm to see and capture or RS232 Data Logger to capture.
My problem is that I cannot see the data in the proper format.
I expect to see some number, positive and negative, which define the sine wave and in fact I can see them on the screen using RealTerm software set properly, but the real problem is that I would like to capture the data and analyze it later, eventually in Excel or other programs.
When is captured, then is either HEX or String ASCII and for some reason I cannot convert it to the positive and negative, which define the sine wave. Either is not captured properly or must be converted. Here I need the help.

Six hours after boot-up the screen went black. Over a period of several minutes rare glimpses of a popup error lower right. Display Driver Stopped Working. Then black screen. Then I was able to read more of the message. Intel Graphics ....... Stopped Responding ........
Black screen. I waited a few seconds and got a chance to click start then shutdown and a screen to wait on some program or forced shutdown. I chose forced shutdown. The program was not a Windows program.
The system did shutdown as far as nothing on the screen but the green light on the tower stayed on and the two fans inside gained speed such that they could be heard. They run normally but never heard. I removed the side panel and waited as maybe they would stop and the system would fully turn off. I waited maybe 10 minutes and then manually turned the system off. And back on. The system booted normally, the fans working normally. Not noticing anything abnormal at the moment but only one browser open and no programs.

Observations on why the system did not totally shutdown and why the fans gained speed and did not turn off, etc.
Error message and implications, etc.

I started getting this alert today. I'm getting it on everything I try to do. Internet Explorer.
And I have not done anything in recent days to cause this alert. No Windows updates, no new programs, etc.
When this alert popped up as you see it in the image below I had placed a check mark in the box beside an e-mail in my mail box and was merely going to move it to another folder. That should not create a security alert.
