I would like to do mobile app development using Xamarin connecting to an ASP.NET web service. Most likely the app would require an internet connection, not allowing local storage.

What do people typically do? Where do they host their web service portion? What database do they use?

I typically work with asp.net and sql server database, but don't know if people are using something different. And if I were to allow some local storage, what do they use for that?

thanks!

Hello,
I have a slider and some text on my website.  There is a background image behind the slider and text.  I am having trouble making the elements scale correctly in mobile layouts.  I was wondering what is the best way to achieve this without having to make tons on media queries for each size?

Thanks!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to test an app on all devices without purchasing all devices?

I'm looking for a better task management solution. I could use some suggestions based on my requirements.

requirements in order of importance, top 6 are a must
  1. -has web/PC app and mobile (Android) app, data being synchronized
  2. -tasks can have due dates
  3. -can associate with "note to self" directive on Android, so I can say "OK Google, note to self, buy birthday cards" and it will make a new task for me hands-free
  4. -can search text contents on mobile and on PC
  5. -has some way of categorizing tasks (lists, categories, folders)
  6. -paste images from clipboard into a task
  7. -attach files to a task
  8. -keyboard shortcuts on PC to create and edit tasks
  9. -can create sub-tasks or related (e.g. "is-blocked-by") tasks
  10. -tasks have priorities (normal,high,etc.)
  11. -tasks can have reminders/alerts at least in the Android app
  12. -can be target of share on Android, e.g. a text message, a URL, or an image can feed into the app and becomes a task
  13. -can easily transfer my existing tasks from Google Tasks
  14. -can share one of the task lists/categories with another person

current situation
I'm currently using GTasks on Android and a Chrome extension (Better Google Tasks), which essentially repackages mail.google.com. This solution has much of the above, but the web interface is clunky and I'm really missing the ability to paste images.

which one?
I've read these are popular and good, but that's a lot to test every one of them. Any suggestions?

I'm using OneNote mobile for iOS to connect to my SharePoint Foundation on premise server...  It seems every few hours if not less I have to go into a page and/or a note... And wait for the tap to enter in password prompt to appear.  I simply tap it and it auto logs me in, however, I would like for the timeout to not exist or to take a long time.  How can I adjust this?

Hi Experts,

I have installed Exchange 2013 (CU17) coexisting with Exchange 2007.  I followed the very good guide "Planning and migrated a small organization from Exchange 2007 to 2013" article from MSExchange.org.  I think it has gotten me 99% there.  The test account and a migrated account on Exchange 2013 can send and receive email with each other, Exchange 2007, and the outside. Outlook and OWA connect when I am on-net.  The External URL for ActiveSync on Exchange 2007 had been blanked out, per the documentation (Part 14) and the EWS virtual directory URLs have been set to the Exchange 2007 location.

However, it doesn't appear that Exchange 2013 is proxying ActiveSync requests to Exchange 2007 successfully.  After updating the firewall rules to forward requests to Exchange 2013, the Exchange 2007 mailboxes aren't available from a mobile device (neither are the Exchange 2013 accounts).  If I set the firewall rules back to what they were, then Exchange 2007 mobile clients work fine, but Exchange 2013 clients still don't.

Any advice to get these coexisting without ActiveSync/remote issues?

Hi,

some users work at different organization (A and B) and have two calendars. They whant sync calendars at server side. (some users use outlook and some mobile devises or macOS, or Linux by browser...). In outlook I can do that, by using calDav Synchronizer
https://sourceforge.net/projects/outlookcaldavsynchronizer/

But users whant server side solution :)

A organization use Open-Xchange mail server
B organization use Exchange 2013, but I can publish calendars over CalDav (http://davmail.sourceforge.net/)

How can I sync CalDav and CalDav, or Exchange and Open-Xchange. Or other way?

Thanks!

Bear with me because I am by far an exchange expert, I am an IT admin for an HR company who was brought in an don't know exchange well at all.  So if I use the wrong verbiage I apologize.

Last week on tuesday, we came to an outage on exchange.   We ran scans and found our database was corrupt.  We started a new database and ran the migration tool bringing over one user at a time, everything is back up and running properly now after the migration tool.  The old database is unmounted and only the new database is mounted and all users are connecting and running email fine.

Ever since the migration and the new database the security requirement on mobile phones has been messed up.   It seems only on android devices so far, but as you can see from the settings below simple password is checked, alpha numeric is not, however on android it is making you now do a 4 digit code, with one Capital Letter, one lowercase, and the other two are what you pick.

Before the migration you could do a simple 4 digit number passcode.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong or what might have changed?

Hi all.

PROBLEM:
We're having a rather uncommon issue with ActiveSync!

Some random mobile devices (we use Android and iOS) at random days, stopped refreshing email folders.
The devices connect ok to the Exchange servers and we can even send emails from those devices, but none of the folders get refreshed.
If I test-ActivesyncConnectivity for those users with issues, everything results in Success, so it seems related with that specific devices.
NOTE: If the user have multiple devices, they all stopped sync the email folders at the same time.

LOGS:
Looking at the logs, the only errors we find are related with the FolderSync with status codes 12 and 110.
There are NO error codes 500 nor 403.

ActiveSync logs show two entries with errors:
1 - Command: Sync, Https Status: 200, Status: 12, Status Definition: The folder hierarchy has changed
2 - Command: FolderSync, Http Status: 200, Status: 110, Status Definition: ServerError, ExceptionInfo: Command_workerThread_Exception

Inside this second error, the description for the "workerThread_Exception is:
"Command_WorkerThread_Exception :
--- Exception start ---
Exception type: System.InvalidOperationException
Exception message: MailboxId has already been mapped to a different SyncId
Exception level: 0

I help out with a community development project in India
I have developed an Excel spreadsheet to help manage the finances.
My Indian partners record expenses during the day in diaries and then transfer this information into their copy of the spreadsheet at the end of the week.
Im looking for a way they can quickly record expenses on their phone at the time, and have this uploaded into an online version of the spreadsheet when they are back at office with internet connection.
Google sheets forms looked like a simple method but required web access to enter date.  Smartsheet is an option.
I was wondering if there is a suitable simple and low expense option that would work with my Excel spreadsheet.

Hey folks. Web design and css is not my day job, more of a side hobby. That said I've been working iteratively on my site for a while now, and have worked myself into a corner when trying to make the site mobile friendly.

Overall I've had pretty good luck taking a two-column dynamic layout I tracked down a few years back and adapting it to mobile. I achieved the dynamic sizing for web with some nested divs that by necessity have a greater width than the window and need to be hidden, though.

On mobile, this only works if I assign overflow-x:hidden; to html, body. If I follow proper procedure and assign it, or the website scrolling setting, to document.body instead (or any other combination therein), the smooth scrolling is broken. I like the smooth scrolling, so even though it cost me the function of tapping the time bar to move to the top of the page, I went with it. It worked, right?

I accepted this compromise until I started to go further and taking my sidebar menus and try to make them fixed position nav menus for mobile. Even that worked fine until I created a logobar that would pop in upon scrolling away from the top of the page. The same compromise that broke "tap to top" has broken any JQuery scrollTop functions I tried to include, on mobile, using a simple enough technique I found here.

Now I have the choice, make any change at all to this css and lose smooth scrolling and gain my logobar and tap to top: as seen in test page 1

I'm trying to understand internals of mobile networks (GSM, 3GPP) and routing calls between them.

When new Mobile Network Operator (MNO) starts its operation, how does other mobile (and fixed) networks all over the world know, how should they route calls to this new network?

Where can I find more information about this topic?
