Recently installed windows server 2012, everything worked great, all shares show up with the users profiles and worked like a charm. I installed Mcafee end point and  Mozy back up software. After the restart the server hang for an hour and would not log in. After I used the start menu and choose " log in with the last good configuration" The server then booted  to a log in screen, however when I try to log in I get the following message "The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship" I have seen a lot of articles around the net to solve other issues with the same message but the noe addresses this particular issue since I cannot get pass the log in screen of the server. How do I repair this issue ?

Hello Experts,

I need to find an cloud backup solution for a windows server 2012 server, it's only used as a file server (word, excel, etc),  unfortunately they bought a server when they really just needed a NAS. I have checked the big players such as carbonite, mozy but i feel the price is not justifiable for simply documents backup. What cost effective solutions do you use for environments like this one? we are talking of may be 50 GB of data.

We recently added a new server and VSS full backup to the NAS Mozy  fails with "the version does not support this version of the file format". Apprently this worked on their old Server 2003 SBS.

The rest of the backup doesn't seem to start.

Hi Experts,

Which disk imaging software is best for a small office (5 computers)?

I have used "True Image" in the past and really liked it but the GUI was a little nerdy and non intuitive. Sort of a good tool for geeks. I have not used it in a few years so it may be greatly improved.

I used "true image" in the past to completely restore my disk to a new hdd after a hard disk failure. It was great: 3 hours after I got the new drive, I was up and running like nothing changed.

This time I got lazy and cheap and just backed up with Mozy but lost all my installed software (I had every single version of Visual Studio installed as well as Eclipse and other tools) I am at 60 hours of rebuilding and still not restored.

My old computer experienced a hardware failure so while I send it off to Dell for repair I want to access my email on another machine. I have backed up my email via Mozy and can still copy to an external drive.

How can I get my mail boxes moved to the backup machine?

Thanks

Good evening. Laptop is Toshiba Satellite L670D w/ Win 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, 3GB RAM, AMD Turion II P520 Dual-Core. Video provided by ATI Radeon HD4 4200 series adapter.

Screen attached showing the issue. Basically any white background, be it on a webpage or any other area where there should be a white background. Started @ 3 weeks ago when user received an email from Mozy of all places which provides their backup. The email was not saved. This was brought to my attention yesterday. Files are unaffected, as is normal performance of the computer itself.

I updated driver package of ATI to revision # 14.4. No effect. Rolled back to end of June, no effect. Tweaked some color / contrast settings, or so I thought, but no change.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Having a rough time here trying to find a product that will let me do this:

Install a remote agent on a computer or server and set it to back up into the cloud.
Right now i'm using GFI MAX and while it does what i want its complex and their support is a complete zero.  We are a small managed IT service company and i would really like to have a appliance of my own in my data center that all my clients servers and computers back up to it.  I checked out a appliance from Barracuda Networks but i don't have $25K to shell out for a 1U backup solution.

Ive tried MOZY and CRASHPLAN, Carbonite is out of the question (to much for a home user) so im just wondering what others use?  Seems like alot of plans out there are designed for a single business, since im a service provider i need to be able to use this service with all my clients and pretty much brand it as a service i offer.

Is there any freeware/sourceforge Windows based software out there that does this?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, we are running MozyPro on Windows Server Standard, 2007. I spoke with Mozy tech support and they stated that the Mozy job is failing because the System Writer is in a failed state of 7.

I have a Windows 2011 SBS server that had a hard drive go out in a RAID array which was causing random reboots and sometimes hard lockups. The OS is still functional but severely corrupted.  After many attempts to repair I have decided to reload the operating system. Active Directory and the file sharing are still functional for the users currently.

I am familiar with the reload of the OS, but I would like to be able to restore Active Directory and the domain settings so that when I take the server back from the reload that I won't have to go around and do anything to the workstations.  Any tips on how to make this happen?  I have a good backup of the Windows system state with Mozy, but can make additional backups if needed with Windows backup or whatever.  Just not sure how to restore everything after the OS is reloaded.  Thanks for your help!

I am getting ready to purchase a Dell T320 server for a client.  This is a small company that is growing, and are in the market to purchase their first server.  This server will house their Sage 50 database and client files.  They are happy with their current GMail solution, so an on premise or off-premise email solution is not an issue and managed elsewhere.

I want to know how well Microsoft's native backup solution works in that is it reliable and efficient on the recovery of files, databases, and the OS restore or even bare metal restore.

Will it work with Dell RD1000 removable backup cartridges (two cartridge rotation).

I would also like to know how is scheduling nightly backup as well.

Finally, can it send an email of the backup completion status after each backup.

I am use to Symantec's Backup Exec, but I am having second thoughts making this initial and recurring annual investment.

Essentially, I want the backup to run every weeknight sending the owner and myself an email of the backup status.

I am also trying to convince the owner in purchasing a cloud backup solution that does require a costly on-site appliance.  Not a fan of Mozy or Carbonite, and am looking at Axcient's cloud backup solution.  I may even look into GFI backup solution if the prices are not ridiculous.

Hi all

Took over a small sbs 2008 office.

Client told me backups were being carried out. I presumed it was a windows image back up. It was a mozy backup

Server reboots, looks like windows is corrupt. I can get into a command prompt and see all the files.  I can even get into directory services restore and log in there through the gui

But I am lost as to how to repair the server so it it boots normally. There is no backup image. Any help would be great
I don't want to have to wipe the server and restore every thing from scratch if possible :(

Both Mozy Pro, Backup exec, andWindows Server backup fail when trying to backup system state.  Windows backup failed with error code:

2155347997. The operation ended before completion.

MozyPro gives a snapShotError0

Backup exec fails with:

Backup- SERVER - AOFO: Initialization failure on: "System?State". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

V-79-10000-11226 - VSS Snapshot error. The Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) snapshot provider selected returned: "Unexpected provider error". Ensure that all provider services are enabled and can be started. Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

Anybody seen this before or have any advice?

I work as an IT consultant and have various customers using different local backup software (windows, Genie, BackupAssist, NovaBackup) and various cloud backups (SOS Online, Mozy, Vembu StoragGrid, Zoolz).

I like to keep local backups and offsite backups, but managing all of the different backup software is getting to be a bit much.

Would anyone recommend a best practice for services and software to backup files, exchange, sql, etc for Disaster Recovery?

Is there one product can do it all, or will I have to keep maintaining things separately.

Exchange, SQL, and System State tend to give me the most problems, just regular file backups don't cause much trouble.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
For years I've used Mozy to back my files up online, but I have 2 problems that I need to face up to soon, and find a suitable solution.
1. Mozy doesn't version or archive. I don't have indefinite copies of a file or archives of deleted files. Sometimes I search for something only to find that perhaps t was deleted months or years ago, perhaps accidentally, perhaps in rigorous cleaning, and then it's gone from mozy too :(
2. I am getting more and more devices, I had 1 computer, noy I have 3, knowing what's where and keeping track of what's backed up and what's not is becoming tedious.
I think ideally I'd like something like a NAS at home that has a copy of all my files and stores them indefinitely.  But then for hardware faults and burglaries etc, I'd need a backup of that NAS on an online service where I can easily access, or restore stuff I need.
I LOOOVE dropbox's options for this kind of thing. the way you can search deleted files and get previous versions, but size wise dropbox is limited, and it's expensive, and I don't know how to make it work as a proper backup solution in conjunction with a local storage device.
A lot of my digital media isn't backed up because of the size, movies, music etc I would like to back up, but they take up so much space, I'm not sure how to do it effectively.
I have a old XP workstation at home, Macbook air, old windows 7 laptop and and a windows 7 workstation at the office that all need to be part of  the plan.
Please could you help me…

Good evening.

Our business has been around since the mid-90's. Over the past two years we have noticed that a greater number of end-users are now solving their issues without the need for paid support services. Our residential client base has dropped significantly, while some of our business clients who used to have contracts with us have opted for incidental support options. We are not a hardware support company that offers repair of iPhones, etc... We provide managed services for our clients specializing in data backup and recovery, asset tracking and management, help desk support, vendor management, etc...

Some of the decline in business could be a result of the economy, but a good portion of this may be the result of free or extremely inexpensive online services. Furthermore, some of the big ISPs such as Comcast are offering IT support to residential and business customers,   which could result in an even greater loss of business.

The increased use of mobile devices and services such as Drop Box, Mozy, Carbonite, etc... has also had an impact on us. The iPad, to the best of my knowledge, cannot be remotely controlled using Bomgar, LogMeIn, etc.  A good number of residential users only have mobile devices because they're only checking email and Facebook. Our fear is that there could be a trend with application providers toward moving their services from server installed options on the client site to cloud-based solutions. If the customer's data is no longer onsite, …

I have a small MSP and I need to be offering cloud backup solutions to my customers.  I am trying to decipher which is the best, most affordable solution that I can offer.  I have looked at Mozy and Carbonite and a few others.  The biggest factor is the Exchange portion.  I have one customer that is a SBS 2011.  We are using the exchange portion of that box.  Also, SQL is another box in that enviornment.  What are my best, most affordable options?

client uses mozy online backup
right now they are getting snapshot errors.
here is the url to the error:
http://support.mozy.com/articles/en_US/Error_Message/SnapshotError4

usually when we have vss errors, regardless of product we run updates, reboot and udully we are all fixed up, this one is unique though.

they recently had issues with registry permissions on, which hey blamed on a windows update they ran prior to that. so they haven't run system updates for a long time.

i am scheduled to do system updates with them tonight..

is there a specific vss update that i can can run vs running total windows updates on the server, just to play things on the safe side..

found a vss update link but its for a different platform (listed below) wondering if there was anything that was specific to this platform:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

a specific vss update or procedure to clear this error would be appreciated.

Having just taken over the IT for this particular client, we are unable to start the SBS backup from the SBS console.

In SBS Console > Backup
"Last Backup", "Status" and "Next Backup" all show "Unknown".

I have just restarted the server and noted the following message appearing:
"Microsoft Block Level Backup Engine Server EXE has stopped working".

This message is also appearing when trying to "Configure server backup" in the SBS console.
-------------------------------

Other backups that are running:

We use JustCloud to send data off-premise.  This data includes files only (no databases, exchange etc.)
We are also using Mozy Pro to send data off-premise.  This data includes files only (no databases, exchange etc.)
We use managed anti-virus (managed via GFI remote management)

Regarding the points about JustCloud and Mozy above, we have tried to run the backup whilst these are disabled but the result is the same.

Regarding error messages - there is a lot of them.  I'm hoping the ones added below might help:

Hello, I am in the process of trying to setup some sort of backup solution for about 30 to 40 laptops users that work in the field.  We have a server here in the office I was thought about setting up a vpn connection and having them use the windows utility file history to folders on the server but my only road block in that solution is that a lot of the employees work inside other companies network, a few years back I ran into trouble with them using outlook inside of the other companies network so I had to move them to webmail, so this time I wanted to use a solution that would work in any environment…… so I thought to use cloud base backup but I have never set one of these up and wanted a little direction and recommendations, we use go daddy for website and email so I considered using their online storage package that will allow me to setup folders for each user and have backup to that, or a service like my mozy or something like it …. Any direction or suggestions??

Hi everybody,

i have a 2008R2 hyper-v CSV cluster with 3 hosts and a HP MSA P2000 iSCSI array.

I have about 20 production VMs on this array.

I want to secure this infrastructure, and more particularly the array. i have installed the Altaro software that backups all my VMs every 2 days on a RAiD 0 array that I have installed on one of my hosts. Each VM backups its data to another Datacenter with the MOZY online backup, each night.

My idea is that in case of crash of the P2000 array, I will start from the last Altaro's backup and restore the last data from MOZY, but it will be long...

I don't think it is the best solution.

Would you have another one ?

After trying under multiple admin accounts I still cannot get any AV program to work.  They install fine but as soon as they start all AV programs throw an error indicated that it's respective service couldn't be started.

I've run just about every vendor specific av removal tool know to man, clean the reg, renamed the repository,  used trendmicro house call, malwarebytes and no sign of an infection.

I have also noticed that Mozy (a backup program) will not run properly now and logmein which also has an underlying service seems to be malfunctioning.

So, I'm trying to get an av program to stick but nothing will work so far as they all result in the same service could not start error.  Even the bloaty microsoft security av apps throw the same error.  How should I approach this to repair it without re-installing XP?

Thanks

I am having issues with 2010 Exchange Writer . The problem is that it randomly fails out and cause the backups to stop working. I have update both exchange server and the third party Software to the latest and greatest. The Third Party Software I am running for my backups are Barracuda Backups and Mozy Pro. Both third party Software company say their software only use the VSS writer and could not cause it to Fail.   The only error in the event logs I can is below:

A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f3, The writer experienced a transient error.  If the backup process is retried,
the error may not reoccur.
. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer.

hey there,

I've inherited a sharepoint site and am very novice about administering it.  Until last week, it was backing up via carbonite offsite but now we switched to Mozy pro and it's failing.

I'm getting vss sql writer errors in vss admin that's why that's occuring i'm guessing.

I tried doing a full farm backup in wss 3.0 console and that fails without backing up.

I'm also interested in using stsadm.exe to do site collection backups if possible. (I need to know what url to use for this and where and default directory is for this?

Once I have a good backup  then i'd like to use a script invoked by windows secheduled tasks to do a full and then differential backups on a two week schedule.

I have pretty limited space on the drives and the full farm is 18GB.

Please help!

Hello,

Currently I am using MozyPro for all my customers. I like Mozy fine and all but I am thinking about providing this backup/restore service myself. I have servers and storage and bandwidth. However, I am not sure about how to perform the back up/transfer, yet. I have some ideas but they are missing full, daily automation at this point. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?

Is there a free or paid for app that can do similar things to Mozy or carbonite but uses my own servers? Or does such a 'backup service' require some sort of script? Is there anything in particular I should be concerned with or have potentially overlooked in terms of customer data and its integrity/confidentiality? All customers are using Server 2008 R2, by the way, and so am I.

Thank you so much!
