Just a heads-up for you Sage Users who still have an SBS.

The latest version of Sage (v24) will no longer install onto SBS2008 or SBS2011.  This is because Sage have used .Net version 4.6.1 which is not compatible with Exchange Server 2007 / 2010.

In the past, Sage has said that installing previous versions of Sage onto SBS have been unsupported but the way around this was to install the software using the InstallV.exe installer.  Sage has now removed this installed from the installer files.

Sounds like a B.S. excuse from Sage.
I can only imagine the number of businesses they have shafted.
Roll on other products not Sage based I guess...

Sage won't really care.

Clients will be more angry at us IT Engineers than Sage themselves. It will raise questions like 'Our server is only a couple of years old, why isn't it compatible?'

Sage itself is a great piece of Software so they probably won't lose many people over it.  The worst part of it is that they've made clients Sage data more liable to risk because they won't be stored on a server that's getting backed up.  Yes, I know that you should do Sage Backups via the Sage Software but in reality, a hell of a lot of customers just don't bother.

Get free NFR key for Veeam Availability Suite 9.5

Veeam is happy to provide a free NFR license (1 year, 2 sockets) to all certified IT Pros. The license allows for the non-production use of Veeam Availability Suite v9.5 in your home lab, without any feature limitations. It works for both VMware and Hyper-V environments

We have a chronic issue with our Exchange Server 2013 environment. Currently, our environment consists of a single Exchange Server. After installing the latest Windows Server 2012 r2 security rollup, the Microsoft Exchange Replication Service stopped working and the Exchange DB changed to an unmounted service. We were finally able to restore operation of the Exchange Server by recovering the DB and remounting. We found out post rollup, from Microsoft support, that there was an issue with .NET 4.7 Framework installation which was included in the latest rollup and was not fully tested on the version of Exchange that we are currently operating. We were able to successfully roll back from the update. However, there is an ongoing issue with the Microsoft Exchange Replication service, wherein it crashes and does not restart. When the service is not running, it causes issues with OWA, ActiveSync and Mailobox Transport. All incoming messages remain in the SMTP queue and are not delivered. Once the Mailbox Exchange Replication service has been restarted, Exchange operation appears to return to normal and Mail flow resumes. One of the directly related error messages posted in the Application Event log is below:

Faulting application name: msexchangerepl.exe, version: 15.0.1320.0, time stamp: 0x58fe8372
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.3.9600.18666, time stamp: 0x58f33794
Exception code: 0xe0434352
Fault offset: 0x00000000000095fc
Faulting process id: 0x76bc

I don't think I shared it for how to catch a bullshitter, but more for the good points to think about in how we work.  A lot of this may be standard operating procedures in their daily lives and others may not.

My big takeaway is understanding the problem objectively and asking the right questions before forging ahead,.  What problem is this going to solve, what are the costs (not just $$ but time/people),

Some good points for day to day work process.

I totally agree, there are some good points in there about questions we should ask ourselves before we continue developing. I have seen plenty of "refactors" that made the code more reusable but there were no plans to reuse the code. By the time another developer got the chance to reuse it, the original assumptions were no longer valid and another refactor was needed.

As developers we should always be trying to balance how we solve problems with the benefits of how we solve them.

A real head scratcher

SQL Server 2005
Web Service .Net Framework 3.5
Symbol MC3190
VB.NET Compact Framework 3.5

Dates consumed by the compact framework are shifted by the difference in the timezone between the server and the client.

Luckily for me the fix was as just a matter of setting the client machines timezone to that of the server.

Just putting it out there in case someone runs into something similar.

For anyone that has a similar issue

Windows 10 Pro
VS 2008
Windows Forms App for Symbol MC3190 - Windows 5 CE

After Windows 10 update, VS 2008 failed to load the project - with error :
File  microsoft.compactframework.visualbasic.targets not found
Confirm that the path in the <Import> declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk.

I seem to have solved this by installing
NETCFv35PowerToys.msi

Video I saw trending today showcases what happens when an IRS phone scammer, attempts to scam the wrong programmer. Said programmer decides to write a call flooding script to prevent the scammers from receiving call-backs. As the frustration ensues he records their responses to the phone calls.

The language eventually becomes nsfw, you've been warned.
