Novell Netware

NetWare is a computer network operating system developed by Novell, Inc. It initially used cooperative multitasking to run various services on a personal computer, using the Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) network protocol. It is hardware-independent, running on any suitable Intel-based PC compatible system, and a wide range of network cards. Products inclue NetWare Directory Services (NDS), a global directory service similar to Microsoft's Active Directory; GroupWise, an email system; ZENworks, an application configuration suite; and BorderManager, a security product. Open Enterprise Server, the current iteration, runs on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

We are using Vectra Cognito ATP. It has detected a host doing internal darknet scans. What we've seen is that it has an internal IP address xx.yy.55.zz and runs a darknet scan on the xx.yy.85.0 subnet. A separate detection showed it with an IP xx.yy.85.zz scanning the xx.yy.55.0 subnet. Each subnet is associated with different floors of the same building of one of our field offices.

The scans occurred over port 80 and 548. Port 548 is associated with Apple Filing Protocol, ExtremeZ-IP File and Print, and Novell Netware - but it doesn't appear any of those apps, or related apps or services are on the machine. I've also reviewed the application inventory of the machine and do not see anything that I believe would be conducting these scans. I've reviewed the PCAP but haven't found anything useful in determining root cause. Two different AV scans only quarantine registries related to our GPOs.

I don't know where else to look or what it may be?

Hello,

we start to do a complete roll out of windows 10 with Zenworks.
Therefore we used this very nice best practices:
https://www.novell.com/communities/coolsolutions/windows-10-best-practices-using-zcm/

If you are using roaming profiles with Novell on non-Windows shares, you have to do some special settings.
For example you have to copy a default profile and move it in the user profile folder - as descripted here:
https://www.novell.com/documentation/zenworks114/zen11_cm_policies/data/bvkn1rh.html
It you don’t do this roaming profile will not work correctly.

Now to my problem.
If I logon to the computer with this default profile the Windows 10 start menu is not working - no reaction if you klick on it.
Roaming profile on multiple PCs is working fine, except of the menu.

I already tried the "default solutions" for this problem:
1. sfc /scannow
2. powershell with $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
3. Copy and Paste the folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database of a local working user

If I don’t follow the instruction in the link above "Assigning a Roaming Profile Policy for a User Profile ..." and let Windows create the roaming profile on the file share I don’t have a start menu problem, but I can't login to different PC -> "Group Policy Client Service failed the sign-in" Error.

Hello,
We are using a special pdf printer. This printer needs a custom defined page size (25.4x25.4mm).
Additional you have to set the TrueType Font to: Download as Softfont.
Now I have the task to distribute this to all users.
We are using NDS and so we have no GPO, but we have Loginscripts and Zenworks as software distribution.
My idea was to deploy a registry script for all users. Unfortunately I can’t found the right key. In these Keys I tried to set it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings
I even tried to set it with the “Printing Defaults” of the Printer under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers -> Default DevMode
I did the same in the past with Windows XP and I’m sure that it worked with the Key DevModePerUser.

Any ideas how to set the settings for all users?

Thanks
Christian

Ok here's my quandary.  The other day one of my staff noticed extremely high usage on our netware administrative account and  disable it to stop the transactions.  After doing that his workstation crashed, now I have no way to re-enable the account and thereby have no way to do anything in directory services.  Has anyone there have any idea how I can re-enable the account?  So far I've had no luck.   I'm hoping someone has an idea.

Thanks

I am trying to install the SNMP server on SLES 12 via YAST and it's prompting me for a SLES 11 SP1 disk. I am trying to install it on our Novell GWIA server for Solarwinds monitoring? Any thoughts on how I can get this going? I'm trying to search for the SLES 11 SP1 disk, but unsure why it needs it if I'm on SLES 12?

I am running Groupwise 2014 on a virtual Suse Linux server.  I ran out of space on my drive that contains my PO.  I added 10GB via the vm vcenter.  And I can see that I have that space available.  But when I try to resize through the Expert Partitioner it gives an error: Resize not support by underlying device.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Running an old old version of NetWare.  We got it sometime in 1995 or 1996.  Went to boot the server and it loads as normal up to a point that then I get the following on the screen:

Mounting Volume SYS
Mirror copies of the volume directory don't match
Volume SYS NOT mounted

I then get a prompt that says "file server name:" followed by a flashing cursor.  Nobody is able connect to the server.

Normally the server will completely boot, autostart the backup software and then people can log in to the server via some old clients we have.

I opened the server case and there is only one hard drive, so there can be no RAID 1 Mirror drive configuration.  Also, as the server is booting as far as it is I know the system is detecting and reading information off the hard drive.

As you can probably tell, I know nothing about Netware.  We have some fairly critical data on this server and I am unsure of the reliability of the backups.  Is this something fairly easy to fix or is it best left to a Netware guru?
