Hello Experts,

I have what is hopefully an easy question but I want to be sure before I proceed.  We have a server that has SBS 2011 installed as a physical image.  We would like to P2V it into ESXI so we can spin up a VM that will run RDS.  The OS that's on is the OEM licensed image installed at the Dell factory.  If we P2V that machine to the same physical hardware its always been running on will it activate and work after the process is complete?  We plan on upgrading the RAM in the server and the HDD's to increase the storage, the processor will stay the same.

TIA

I have a Windows 10 Pro, version 1703, OS build 15063.674 64-bit computer. This computer is being controlled via Connectwise Automate or Labtech as it used to be called. The patches are being approved and installed via their Patch Manager plugin.

Several times a day, the user will get the popup indicating that Updates are available. The attached file shows it. Unless the user clicks on the View Updates Button, they are unable to do anything else until they do so. When the View Updates button is clicked, the Windows Settings screen is shown. When Updates and Security icon are clicked, the screen shows at the top 'Your computer is being controlled by Admin' which is what is displayed on all of our computers that we are monitoring.

This is the only computer out of over 100 end points that is giving us this problem. All the critical and important updates have already been applied per the Patch Manager plugin.

I have run CCleaner, Malwarebytes Pro, checked the logs, but cannot find how or why this popup is occurring.

HP Proliant ML350 G4 won't boot after Raid 5 Adaptec 2610SA drive failure. After finding the array which has a Group1 Raid 5 with 3 disks, no hot spares, & Volume for data with 3 disks Group 2. The Group 1 was in failed status. I had to recreate the Group1 without writing over the data. Then I was able to add the new replacement disk.(Long story). All that worked with no problem. Now both groups show up as optimal. I was hoping to have the data be all intact and it would boot fine, but it doesn't. It passes up the CDrom, hard disk, etc, and then goes to PXE boot and a continual loop. I have cleared the CMos with switch 6 on. No change. It doesn't have the F11 option. I believe the bios is 2007. But it worked fine forever. I do have backup, so if I can just get it to boot, I'll reinstall the OS and repair form backups. OS currently is Windows Server 2012.

So we have Linux 6.5 Server and when ever I SSH into it from a workstation to view the audit logs my UID is attached to someone else that is logged in (SSH) AUID.

I understand that the AUID is the Audited User ID and UID is the user ID.  So if I login as MikeP my AUID and UID should be MikeP and if I, from that log  in should ssh to a different machine using different credentials that the AUID stays the same but the UD changes to the new credentials.

So if MIkeP ssh to another workstation as Mike-local then the AUID should stay MikeP and the UID now becomes Mike-local.

However, for us that is not happening.  The AUID is selecting who ever is attached to the system when we SSH or login locally.

Has anyone experienced this before and what could be causing it?

Thanks,
john

Dear Community,

I would like to know, what is Microsoft official policy for using Microsoft Servers; those are used in test and development environment once they passed trial period?
For example, i have deployed many 2016 serves for test infrastructure and they have passed 6 months trial period - so what Microsoft states for such scenarios?

Please suggest and share relevant links. Thanks.

Hi! To avoid going via a OS file, I want to write my Oracle script's output directly to the OLEDBDATAAdapter system.data.datatable from Oracle OraOLEDB.Oracle.

When I send a regular SELECT...someting from the data connector, it is returned fine. However, I need to do some additional tweaking after that, so I am using a procedure and some additional code in my sql-string to achieve this. Creating an OS-file and send the result out there this way works fine, so the SQL-code executes as it should. But rather than doing that, it would be much more convenient and secure to do it directly into the system.data.datatable of OLEDBDATAAdapter. The calling software (Blue Prism) has methods to handle that input directly from the returned table.

Can anyone give any advice as how to achieve this? As you probably understand, this isn't my main area of expertise :-)

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

I'm currently encountering an issue with Java Development under Eclipse IDE on Mac OS X.

Eclipse cannot terminate the program, when stopping by pressing the stop-button. When i start the program in debug mode, however it can terminate the program. On Windows I also do not have this issue.

When running the .jar-file on mac, also the program cannot be terminated correctly, on Windows there is no problem.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Any hints appreciated.

BR Klaus

Okay... Here's the situation. I have sort of inherited a system. I have a 'working' location and a new location we are creating. Horizon View 7. We use dedicated pools with static machines assigned to users. There is a mix of both Win7 and Linux (CentOS and Ubuntu and something else I can't remember). All the VM's have to autologin to a desktop with a local user. This is a requirement that can't be changed. According to users in the other location, they are able to connect to their running VM's with no issues and it connects to the running session. In testing the new environment, this doesn't work. We get the resource busy or unavailable error. On my Win7 VM that I am testing with, I have installed the console plugin. This allows me to connect directly to the VM with a user already logged in, but I'm prompted for the local user account. Connecting to the Horizon server, does not work. The VM's we started working with at the beginning of this were VM's from the other location. Now we are building from scratch.

We've had our networking guys investigate it was well and according to them, this is all connected at the switch level and nothing is being blocked. I would not rule out networking though.

Any ideas what the issue is or if what we need to do is even possible? I've been told to make this work even though it does seem like it would be easier to just allow console access.

Background

I am setting up a AWS server for my company and I have used an Ubuntu 16.04 server AMI.

In order to allow GUI access I have installed XRDP and the Mate (v 1.12.1) desktop (click here to see the instructions I followed)

Problem

After some initial permissions problems with the 'ubuntu/.config' folder I have been able to log in successfully. HOWEVER when I log in I am getting duplicate 'desktop furniture' in that I have two system menus, two workspace controllers, two trash cans and two 'power control' icons (top-right corner - looks like an old toggle switch)

Also when I select the restart the machine (from the top-right drop-down menu) it doesn't always take effect - sometimes I have to do it twice. I suspect I am selecting the wrong menu from the two that are there.

If I log on using another user account the problem has gone - there is only one system menu etc... This shows that it is clearly a user profile setting but i have no idea how to resolve - after all I didn't double install anything.

Can anyone tell me how to resolve this ?

Example of the duplicate Mate desktop

Dear Experts,

I’m receiving “BusyBox v1.18.4 (Ubuntu 1:1.18.4-2ubuntu2) built-in shell (ash) then (initramfs)”. It’s seems I’m facing a file system mix-up after the upgrade which is creating a kernel panic. At each starup, after the POST, the initramfs (the initial ramdisk filesystem) used to boot into Ubuntu keep failing.

All that happen when I run the service pack and hot fix bundle (SPP GEN8 Post production) in my HP Proliant DL580 Gen8 server. After all the service pack were installed, I upgrade the OS from Ubuntu 14 LTS to Ubuntu 16 LTS. Until now, I'm getting the busybox error.

Looking forward to any help to have this sort out. Thanks again for your support. I appreciate.

Any experienced Engineer who can suggest the best way to manage OS Patches and Packages across hundreds of Red Hat virtual and physical servers?

Dear all,

We would like to ask your experts advice on how to remediate one of the findings in our application penetration testing: "OS command injection". Here is the details of the findings:

OS command injection

Operating system command injection vulnerabilities arise when an application incorporates user-controllable data into a command that is processed by a shell command interpreter. If the user data is not strictly validated, an attacker can use shell metacharacters to modify the command that is executed, and inject arbitrary further commands that will be executed by the server.

OS command injection vulnerabilities are usually very serious and may lead to compromise of the server hosting the application, or of the application's own data and functionality. It may also be possible to use the server as a platform for attacks against other systems. The exact potential for exploitation depends upon the security context in which the command is executed, and the privileges that this context has regarding sensitive resources on the server.

Hope you can help us resolve the issues.

Thanks and best regards,
Edna
