Operating systems perform basic tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. For large systems, the operating system makes sure that different programs and users running at the same time do not interfere with each other. The operating system is also responsible for security, ensuring that unauthorized users do not access the system. Operating systems provide a software platform on top of which other programs, called application programs, can run.

Hello Powershell Experts,

I need some help generating a table to display results of a Powershell script.  The script basically checks our servers for drive space.  The code of the script is as follows:

Get-ADComputer -Filter {OperatingSystem -like '*Windows Server*'} | Select name | sort name | ForEach-Object {
    $PingTest =Test-Connection -ComputerName $_.name -Count 1 -Quiet
        if ($PingTest -eq "True") {
            Get-WmiObject win32_logicaldisk -ComputerName $_.name -Filter "DriveType=3" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | `
                Select-Object `
                    @{n="Server";e={$_.SystemName}},`
                    @{n="Drive Letter";e={$_.DeviceID}},`
                    @{n="Volume Name";e={$_.VolumeName}},`
                    @{n="Total Size (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f($_.size/1GB)}},`
                    @{n="Free Space (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f($_.FreeSpace/1GB)}},`
                    @{n="Used Space (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f(([Int64]$_.size/1gb) - ([Int64]$_.FreeSpace/1gb))}},`
                    @{n="Percentage Used";e={"{0:P2}" -f((1-[Int64]$_.FreeSpace/[Int64]$_.Size))}}

        }

}

This returns the desired information in a list format.  If I add the format-table commandlet at the end, it almost gives me what I want.  Below is the code and the results:

Get-ADComputer -Filter {OperatingSystem -like '*Windows Server*'} | Select name | sort name | ForEach-Object {
    $PingTest =Test-Connection -ComputerName $_.name -Count 1 -Quiet
        if ($PingTest -eq "True") {
            Get-WmiObject win32_logicaldisk -ComputerName $_.name -Filter "DriveType=3" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | `
                Select-Object `
                    @{n="Server";e={$_.SystemName}},`
                    @{n="Drive Letter";e={$_.DeviceID}},`
                    @{n="Volume Name";e={$_.VolumeName}},`
                    @{n="Total Size (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f($_.size/1GB)}},`
                    @{n="Free Space (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f($_.FreeSpace/1GB)}},`
                    @{n="Used Space (GB)";e={"{0:n2}" -f(([Int64]$_.size/1gb) - ([Int64]$_.FreeSpace/1gb))}},`
                    @{n="Percentage Used";e={"{0:P2}" -f((1-[Int64]$_.FreeSpace/[Int64]$_.Size))}} | Format-Table

        }

}

Dear Experts Good Morning ,

1) What is the best method to check and maintain the health of exchange server?

2) I have an exchange server 2016 and contain more than 160 mail boxes, the log file and .edb together approx. 2.5 tb and it dumps on another drive (D:) . If I will take the the snapshot on openstack, will it capture only the OS current state or also the transaction log file and .edb?

3) If its include the the sate of DB and logs then how can it take snapshot because it  will continuously changing? I have read somewhere we can take snapshot while shut shown the         machine is it possible?

4) Do  have any idea how long it will take to take snapshot?

5) In case of disaster can I download the snapshot and use for recovery?

Thanks in advanced. I always get help on this platform. I highly appreciate to all contributors.

Obviously by my question, all will know that I am Apple illiterate.
I have a client that has a MAC Apple computer and the password no longer works.
I have done the following:
Booted to Recovery Mode
Ran Utilities - Terminal Mode typed resetpassword
Choose user [only one user present, and it is the user I want to change the password for]
enter password for otheruser@iclod.com. [I think this may be an Apple ID]
This is where the problem occurs, The "other user" is no longer with the organization, and has no recollection of ever having created the ID. [I think that this computer was the first Apple that "other user" had anything to do with.

Is there anyway to recover  or revoke or replace the current other user@icloud.com?  Would it make sense to try wipe the computer and start over with a fresh install of the OS?  Obviously any data that may be on the computer is lost if the password cannot be reset.  Can the computer operating system be restored without knowing the information for "other user"

This using Veritas NetBackup 8.11 support backups into tapes and disks. The routine daily backup jobs are working fine. However, we wanted to have "bare metal" backup on one of our SuSE linux physical server, so as, we can restore all the OS + data from the backup. How to conduct this ad hoc backup so as all the data (be it OS, application, and so) so as it can be restored if needed? This server has all the licenses configured.

Thanks in advance.

VM Server2016 running Exchange Server 2016 CU12 only exchange running on this VM apart from the OS, Outlook 2010 used. domain local on network xxx.local.

The issue we are experiencing is that any .com email addresses email outbound come back eventually with "The email address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's email address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your email admin".

Yet other *.XXX email addresses work without an issue both inbound and outbound.

All .com emails appear to be coming inbound to the server and available to the client.

Any thoughts or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

We have a client that uses OneDrive to store all their files and folders. One of the users also has a personal OneDrive they use. Both are synced on two computers and have had no issues for over a year. Within the last month, just one of the computers is failing sign-in requests to OneDrive while Office has a document open. When you attempt to sign into this, it says the credentials are incorrect even though they are not. (you can log into the portal just fine) The weirdest part is that you can open the files in Word, etc just fine but it's when you try to save them it has the issue.
SignInError.png
We've tried the following to fix the issue.
- Online Repair of Office
- Complete removal of Office (including scrubbing registry keys)
- Clearing the TPM
- Resetting the password
- Resyncing OneDrive applications
- Completely Wiping and reinstalling the OS from scratch, keeping no files or folders. (temporarily fixed the issue but it came back the next day)

At this point I'm at a loss how to fix this, thoughts?

where within the Ubuntu OS is this box triggered.....i'd like to find the precise line of code that calls this box up.....  it occurs when you attempt to copy a file from directory 1 to directory 2 and directory 2 already has a file of the same name....  this is not related to any app as such but rather simply appears when a copy/paste operation finds a conflict.....

Dear Wizards, a VM inside a ESXi host had very high CPU but when we login to that VM, there are only several services running.

Our user confirmed that only SQL Database is running, I checked the processes, CPU, RAM, Network, netstat... everything is normal but from vCenter view, this VM takes hugh amount of CPU usage

can you suggest ? Many thanks!

KMS vs Licensing server.   We are Microsoft volume license subscriber and we have a KMS in our environment to activate our licenses for Windows Workstation OS and Office products.  We are trying to figure out how many Client\Device licenses have been activated by KMS and how many license we have left.  The VMAT is not giving me the information I need and with 2008 and higher you no longer have a license manager where you add in the number of CALs purchase to see what is available.   What is the best way to determine who many CAL\DAL we are using in our environment and how many do we have left for both windows and office products?

I have a user using an iMac, I'm not sure of the OS right off, but I think he's good about keeping his system up to date.

Adobe Premiere keeps crashing on his machine.  Naturally, I want to look at the application logs to see what is happening.  I have an administrator permissioned account credentials, so I'm logging in there. I look in the logs and I don't see anything there that indicates a crash.  In fact, it doesn't look like there's much of anything in this machine's logs at all.  This makes me think that perhaps logs are user specific and that I need to be logged in as him to find what I'm looking for.

Am I just looking in the wrong place for the logs that I'm looking for (I don't understand OS X logging just yet), or is my problem more likely or encouraged by the fact  that I need to be logged in as that specific user to get to the logs I need?

Learn SQL Server Core 2016

This course will introduce you to SQL Server Core 2016, as well as teach you about SSMS, data tools, installation, server configuration, using Management Studio, and writing and executing queries.

I have a newly configured, headless, Ubuntu 18.04 dedicated server on a hosting company, so it's not a local server.

The problem is that while I am connected and doing something on the server using SSH, running top, transferring a file, etc, I get disconnected and cannot connect again. I have to reboot the server to do so.

The hosting company says the server is configured to have power saving mode turned on, and it goes into power saving mode.

I find it weird because:
1. I never had encountered a server OS with power saving mode turned on, because, well, it's a server
2. Even it it was turned on, it should not kick in while it's in use. At lease that's how I understand how it should work
3. The server is almost 2 months old, and we only encountered this issue twice. Had it been on all the time, it would have been a constant problem since day 1

So my question is, how do I check that power saving mode is on, and how do I turn it off? I've read some articles in other sites, but I'd rather have the answers here.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, I have been trying to learn the Windows architecture but I am still struggling to piece all of the parts together and I think it is especially hard because I don't have any programming knowledge.

One of my pain areas is the kernel and user mode. Could anyone help me with a good example to understand how processes that run in user mode access the kernel ? And where do handles and objects come into the picture?

From what I read the kernel and user mode are just two different processor modes on Windows. User mode is used for applications, system processes, services etc. while the kernel mode is for Windows Executive, device and file-system drivers, HAL, kernel code itself, GDI etc. The processor running on Windows switches between these two modes depending on the code it is executing.

In user mode, the executing code has no ability to directly access hardware and has only limited access to system data. It would have to use handles to access kernel mode resources which are objects.
In kernel mode, the executing code has complete and unrestricted access to the underlying hardware and system data.
This isolation allows for better system stability and security. Crashes in the user mode only affect the application as each process runs in its own private virtual memory space called heap, while crashes in the kernel mode causes bug checks because the kernel mode shares the virtual memory space known as pool.

To show my understanding so far let us take …

We are considering moving to Hyper-V from ESX, but that could be up to 1 yr in the future. In the meantime, I want to create my VMs in a way that is easy to move.

In this case we are reviewing the use of Win 2016 Datacenter vs. Standard. We will definitely be using Datacenter for the Hyper-V host, but have questions about the guest OS to use.
Many of the additional features of Datacenter seem to be focused on using it as the Hyper-V server

1. If we use Standard as the guest OS will we lose access to any of the additional Datacenter features
2. Does Datacenter use significantly more resources than Standard?
3. Does Datacenter licensing apply to all guests even if they are Standard?

Hi, this is happening on a couple new builds of  windows 10 v1803 Ent 64bit. When opening File Explorer, the explorer windows locks itself in place meaning you cant resize, move or use any of the window controls i.e. top row Close, Minimise, Maximise. You can however, close the window from the ribbon tools and still access files etc. I've tried to find issues that match this one without much luck. cheers in advance.
