Curious about the new outlook.com beta? Here's how to access it.

Just from the screenshot and information provided in the article, it seems like even Microsoft is being influenced by Slack and other communication tools that include GIFs and other fun elements a part of their user experience.

I've recently made the switch to inbox (by Google) that I believe has a much closer to outlook interface than gmail, which is why I like it.
There's the action buttons on each message, reminders, archiving etc. Also runs in its own window, which can also be pinned to the taskbar.
Gmail has none of this (other than be pinned/run as own window)
If it wasn't for Inbox, I'd probably go back to outlook.

I have been using inbox on my gmail account for my android phone and outlook for my desktop.

I do like some of the less cluttered look of inbox but you can't do everything in inbox as you can with gmail.  So now in typical Google fashion, they have 2 products where one is the shiny new thing that is missing features.  At some point, one of of these things is going to go or not get much love.

Google Voice took the back seat to Hangouts, now hangouts has changed and Voice has been updated.  Talk was completely merged to hangouts.  Making a call from gmail used to be via talk which turned into voice, but now making a call from gmail is via hangouts.

Have you ever spent time developing with google products/api's?  Have fun because they tend to sunset and change things quickly.

Xenapp 6.5 Intermittent issues since KB4012215 (WannaCry security fix)

Hi All,

Ever since we installed KB4012215 as part of MS recommended protection against ransomware\ 'Wannacry' into our Windows 2008 R2 Xenapp 6.5 base image we've seen constant intermittent issues with file handles and permissions related to user profiles, UPM, Office applications and RDS.

Issue 1 - when user logs on\ launches a session:
Word - 'your autocorrect file C:\users\user\appdata\roaming\microsoft\office\MSO3081.acl could not be saved - click OK 'Word cannot open the existing file normal.dot'

Issue 2- when user logs on\ launches a session:
Outlook signature file goes missing for customers - they'll add and then they'll lose it again on another session later.

There seem be weird file and handler locks and registry handles not being released properly or quickly enough after logon. i.e. an application wont recognise required datafiles (XML) in user\ \appdata\roaming profile folder even though the file\ folder definitely exists and can be written to.
To our frustration we cannot replicate the problem however it seems that the issues manifest when a user logs onto a specific CITRIX server the first time around and then relaunch an application session on THAT server again within a given timeframe. Testing further indicates that if a user is logged off completely and then they log back onto that same server the issue is NOT present.
A server …

i have never seen an worse program the Microsoft outlook. Initially I thought it's only me, but since I am following question on the exchange and see how many IT pro have issues with outlook I know outlook is nightmare for anyone who use it in a office environment.  until google will not come out with a email client I don't believe there will be any big improvement. Microsoft does not get scared from any competition other then google and need to say in every product google competed with Microsoft we have seen major improvements or rather say recreation. Is it on google agenda? why not? thy have a office product so why not email client?

Honestly, Abaraham, I'm not disputing you that Outlook is a big search topic.  But like has been said, it's the industry dominator, so since EVERYONE uses it doesn't make sense that there are a lot of questions?

Data-wise, how many of those questions are how-to or user correction?  Or ended up being 'Did you disable this add-in and it started working again?'

I get your point, and I think it's fair really, but since it's such a widely used program it makes sense there are occasional bugs and that they get posted.  But whether a program is good or not can be widely opinion based, people are entitled not to like it for any reason they choose.  I think the nice thing about a site like EE is that we can help people work with their issues and enable them to use the tool that is industry standard.

Like most people, I hate spam! - Which is why I love Mailwasher Pro!  I highly recommend it and no, that's not my affiliate link. Though I do have one :)

I've yet to try another anti-spam solution that gives me as much control over my mail and that works as well as this software does in keeping spam out of my Inbox, while never affecting the mail I want to keep.

Here's an example screen grab I just took to show why I'm so fond of it.

Mailwasher Pro Partial Screen Grab
Every action in this screen shot was pre-marked automatically for me without my needing to do a thing. I have the option to over-ride anything with a quick mouse click and the program will remember my preferences for the next time it checks.  I can also safely preview any email in that list using plain Text or HTML format and even shoot off a quick Reply or Forward if I want to, without needing to bring it into Outlook.

When I want to bring in my email, I just hit the big "Wash Mail" button and it deletes all the garbage from my mail server's host, opens (or maximizes) Outlook and I click send/receive in there to bring in only the good stuff that I want to keep.  Spam hasn't made its way into my Outlook for years now.  I also have it installed on both my IPhone and IPad.

When I do want to adjust my additional "self created" filters, the provided filter creation tool is great so the process only takes seconds to do.  If you hate spam as much as I …

Yep.. That's a risk with many web based (or even managed) solutions.  You're always at the mercy of whoever runs the service.

I'm a bit of a control freak at heart, so Mailwasher suits me down to the ground.  Having used it for so long, it's learning history rarely (if ever) gets it wrong for me these days.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Why PSTs Are Bad
Lately I have run across a few situations where a user was recommended to use a PST file with Outlook to help manage the size of their mailbox. Here's a link that talks about why this could be a bad idea.
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10-things/10-reasons-to-avoid-using-pst-files/

Best solution of course is actually to spend time managing emails and get rid of unneeded items. If a person is using Exchange, they also should find out if an archive has been set up.

New to this sharing updates thing, so I have no idea who views these? I have created some Outlook troubleshooting training videos for technicians. I'm considering putting them up here on EE for techs to purchase. When you upload courses, it takes a lot of time. I have 2 other courses up and it was a bit of work. If you read this and think it's of value, please like this post or comment "yes" so I can get a feel for the interest. Thanks!
