Page Layout Software

Page layout, also known as desktop publishing, is the part of graphic design that deals in the arrangement of visual elements on a page. It generally involves organizational principles of composition to achieve specific communication objectives. With print media, elements usually consist of type (text), images (pictures), and occasionally place-holder graphics for elements that are not printed with ink such as die/laser cutting, foil stamping or blind embossing. Commonly used programs include Adobe PageMaker and InDesign, Corel Ventura, QuarkXPress, Microsoft Publisher and Xara, along with more specialized programs such as TeX, LaTeX and LyX.

What DTP programs would I need to be able to independently offer DTP services in connection with my translation services?

My aim is to easier reach out to direct customers instead of working with translation agencies (which normally take care of DTP services for me). So in some cases it would a competitive advantage to be able to offer DTP services for direct customers such as manufacturers.

Of course it differs greatly from customer to customer what kind of DTP services they require, so I would probably need some DTP software that has a "wide scoop" and can handle many different requirements from the customer on the final output format. I've heard of DTP software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Indesign and Quarkxpress, but I don't know much about the differences between them, and what would suit me best. I found these links about DTP programs:

I checked the salary for DTP and it's quite low, but my main aim is to enhance the competitive advantage for my translation business by being able to offer "everything" for end-customers (like manufacturers etc.) as opposed to my normal customers, which are translation agencies.
PDF995 has been corrupted
A user was using PDF995 and now it is not working, it creates a scramble and corrupts the pdf file with message “application (PDF995) has been corrupted “
I uninstall and reinstall it but it act the same way.
Is there any register clean up I should have done before reinstalling it again?
Does anyone have any idea...?
Hello and Good Morning Everyone,

             I am interested in any program or programs which will automatically generate an article on any topic.  The best one I have read about is Article Builder.   This program is a browser based program as opposed to a desktop program and seems fairly expensive.  With these points in mind, could someone recommend an alternative program which can be installed on the desktop and run locally as opposed to remotely?  Perhaps there is a program which can merge the two.  For instance,  there might be a program which can be installed locally but can go out on the internet and pull material to generate the article of interest.  Of course, I am speculating on that part of it.

              Any shared thought or views regarding this personal quest will be greatly appreciated.  In the meantime, I look forward to hearing back from everybody.

How can I add a new link under Menu in my sharepoint site? Screenshot attached. I have tried editing the web part with no luck. Is it a list?
We got Windows updates last night, Vista home basic.

Now all windows are white. See the image and the bottom is why as well as the background on the start menu. We think the color was a darker gray before last night updates.

System restore can be done but we lose the updates. So that is not the solution.

Are there settings to change the background colors. White is too bright.

I have put red dots on all areas where the color has changed from "we think" a darker gray to a light gray now almost white.

I have Word 2013 and I am trying to set my page number. My second page has the Table of Content footer. My 1st page is the title and my 3rd page is the start of the main document. The second page already has a footer. I added the page number as the footer on the 3rd page and the 1st page got the page number. I do not want my 1st page to have the page number. I went to page layout and Different First Page is checked. How do I get rid of the page # on my 1st page. Word is driving me nuts... Thanks
I deal with thousands of PDF's and often have a hard time remembering exactly where I saved one.
Is it possible to put the location of where the PDF is stored on the actual PDF?
Thank you,
I have an InDesign form with 2 fields where the user must enter their US state or Canadian province. I have created a txt list of the choices and rather than entering in each selection by hand there should be a way to add the list using a script. I found a script written by Chuck Weger in 2012 called "ComboMambo" but I can't get it to work for me. Maybe the script won't work for InDesign CC 2014. Can anyone come up with a slick way to make a combo or list box with 60 or so entries w/o typing each and every one? Your system won't allow me to upload an InDesign file :-( So I am uploading the adobe pdf instead.

We have an issue where indesign crashes consistently when printing out of Indesign to our Xerox 560.  The print job spools and prints, but indesign has to be relaunched.  Any thoughts on what I could do?  We are currently using Adobe CC 2014.  The Xerox printer has a fiery controller with a PS printer driver.
I am attempting to create a rem based site using Twitter-Bootstrap 3. In particular my text is not behaving responsively. It is just wrapping without changing font size or line height. I added a color change to the @media statements to visually track the break points. I'm not seeing any color changes either so the custom @media code is also not working. From what I have researched, it should be working. Obviously, I'm missing something. Please take a look at https://jsfiddle.net/dlearman/995w62e0/4/ and steer me in the right direction.
My boss attended his dad's memorial and a person there posted the entire service on youtube.

What software can I purchase to download the video and save it to play on an IPhone, and / or Windows computer?
Our managers use a spreadsheet that lists some 100 skills across the top, with a side listing of employees, each with a checkmark, X, in the appropriate column according to the skills they know. To save space, the skill names are turned at steep diagonal in the spreadsheet.

The main purposes of the spreadsheet are:
1. To see how many are trained in a given skill, for workload and workforce planning
2. To see in which workloads a given employee is trained.

I could layout a report in landscape orientation that would give all that information, but how can I save space? To type out each skill horizontally would take a lot of room. Is it possible to turn the group headings diagonally in a report? That would allow me some space efficiency. I could export to Excel, but that seems like a lot of formatting each time. Possibly write a macro to automate the layout format after exporting.

Have any of you encountered a similar situation in which made a different layout but still had the information to meet the purposes of the report?

What are some options for meeting these report purposes?
I need to create a PDF that is maximally readable to a wide audience, so I suppose Adobe is the best place to turn for that. True?

But which version of I need for this? I really do not want to spend $298 if I do not have to.

I do not want an online version. Please list version options and what features I gain by using a better version.

As far as locking the PDF before distribution. Is that an advanced feature? Is it pretty hard to break that?

I'm having trouble getting background images to scale responsively.  I'm using:

 <div class="row-fluid">
       <div id="swirl" class="col-md-12  col-centered">

#swirl {
  background: url("../_img/common/swirl_305x180.png") no-repeat scroll center center;
  background-size: cover;
HP office jet pro 8600 printing larger font size than (html  - web) document.
Tried all combo of browser, font, page settings and layout, but no resolution.

The pages print correctly on a HP Office jet 8200

This is on a XP sp3 pc.  The printer driver is new just reinstalled.

Any clues?  Thank you
We are using an HP LaserJet 3015 with 3 part carbon paper (white, yellow pink).  All works well when printing out a one page invoice.  However when printing out a two page or great page invoice, the second page of the invoice is being printed on the first yellow page.  I am looking for a solution to have the print order such as for a multi-page print:

White, Yellow, Pink (1st page)
White, Yellow, Pink (2nd page)
White, Yellow, Pink (3rd page)

Right now the printing is doing the following:
White (1st page)
Yellow (2nd page)
Pink (3rd page)

Does anyone have any advice?  Any printer application or .net code that I can use?
When I change pictures in MS publisher 2013, the picture is cropped to fit the existing image.   How do I prevent this happening?   I did not have this problem in Publisher 2007.
This has been going on some weeks. It was not a result of any scans done recently or any recent Windows updates.
Intermittently, and tonight with Firefox, the EE tab at the top and the reload button begin blinking. It stops after awhile.
I've meant to ask about this for at least 3-4 weeks.
We do not know the exact date it started. We gathered it might be something related to the site or to the browser used and we have used Chrome and FF every day for the last 1.5 months.

Not sure what zone it belongs in either.
I have a table with a wage column and a pension column. I want the pension to be the wages multiplied by a percentage. It isn't one field multiplied by another filed so I think I need a script. The pension amount is .1199.
I have an Indesign file that contains my title page, table of contents and section pages. The content of each of the sections is contained in separate Indesign documents.

I am able to place these section indesign files but I want to be able to include their styled headings in the table of Contents.

If I just copied and pasted the text from these files into my top level indesign file it works, but we have multiple people working on each section so I just want to link to their portion and update the TOC as necessary.
I need a programming language or batch/script that will take a gif file, put a circle around specified x, y coordinates in the file and save it using a uniquely specified file name

I need a way to have a crystal report print on half of a letter side page.  IE page one would print on the top half and page 2 would print on the bottom half.  I don't want to use a separate sub report as my report already uses multiple sub reports and it runs way to slow to do that.

Is there a way to do this with formatting and relative positions?

Hello Experts,

I have an issue when using frameset on Google Chrome on a customer's web site of the company I work on.
The frameset is such that it has a top frame, a right frame as a menu and a main frame to display
contents. The html is using HTML4.

The issue we are having is with the menu frame that is targetting to the main frame in order to render
the content for the selected option in the menu. The main frame updates correctly on Firefox and on
Interne Explorer,  the issue appears with Google Chrome because main frame doesn't update, but if
control key + click opens in a new tab.

I have included files reassembling the behaviour above with html files. On the production
environment jsp render the html content with the same effect as in the files that I'm including now. Just open the home.html this will open a frameset. Click on any of the "content" links on the right menu. Content will show up in the main frame on Firefox/Internet Explorer, but Google Chrome won't open them unless you press control key + click  and it will open on a new tub. FireFox/internet Explorer open on the same tab. I need Google Chrome respects the "target" and opens on the same page.

How can you make frames, and frame target work on Google Chrome?

I know there are known security issues related to Google Chrome that may affect the frame behaviour:
a) Sandboxing, which unables two tab contents unable to communicate between them.
b) Frame targetting is disabled by default …
