Page Layout Software

Page layout, also known as desktop publishing, is the part of graphic design that deals in the arrangement of visual elements on a page. It generally involves organizational principles of composition to achieve specific communication objectives. With print media, elements usually consist of type (text), images (pictures), and occasionally place-holder graphics for elements that are not printed with ink such as die/laser cutting, foil stamping or blind embossing. Commonly used programs include Adobe PageMaker and InDesign, Corel Ventura, QuarkXPress, Microsoft Publisher and Xara, along with more specialized programs such as TeX, LaTeX and LyX.

When I opened a new blank A4 document today it opened normally and then the page changed right in front of my eyes. It lost height. It is nothing to do with magnification and when I look in page layout it is A4 but if I save it as a pdf or print it there is a blank area above and below the page. In other words although it is convinced it is A4 it is shorter. I have tried changing the height of the paper in the page layout to larger than the height of A4 to try and compensate but it doesnt work. It feels like I have a virus changing what an A4 is. The only way I can get A4 is to use a documnet I have used before as a master and that appears as A4. I can work with this but it really bugs me not knowing what is going on.Any ideas.?Thanks

I'd like to create a gift guide (product catalog) that I can convert to PDF and then convert to HTML5 using a tool like PubHTML5 so I can upload a holiday gift guide for my customers.

Question is what is the best tool to compose the original layout of pages?  I have tried using Word or PowerPoint but I'm not sure that's going to give me the best flexibility of layout choices.

We use Adobe FrameMaker 11 for our typesetting work. We need to create press-ready files to print school books mainly on science and maths. Our requirement is typesetting books in English, Bengali and other Indian languages. We need to be able to use Unicode fonts in the body text as well within equations. How can we enable support for Unicode in FM 11?

I have a publisher 2010 document that just recently had an image that won't show up on the first page, but it does show up on the printed publication. This same image is missing on other documents now. Any suggestions?

can anyone give the the DFD for this case study :-
Projects, Inc. is an engineering firm with approximately 500 engineers of different types. The company keeps records on all employees, their skills, projects assigned and departments worked in. New employees are hired by the personnel manager based on data in an application form and evaluations collected from other managers who interview the job candidates. Prospective employees may apply anytime and these applications are kept in an applicant file.
Engineering managers notify the personnel manager when a job opens and list the characteristics necessary to be eligible for the job. The personnel manager compares the qualifications of the available pool of applicants (in the applicant file) with the characteristics of an open job and then schedules interviews between the manager in charge of the open position and the three best candidates from the pool.
After receiving evaluation on each interview from the manager, the personnel manager makes the hiring decision based upon the evaluations and applications of the candidates and the characteristics of the job, and then notifies the interviewees and the manager about the decision.
Applications of rejected applicants are retained for one year, after which time the application is purged.  The personnel manager goes through the files each month to purge applications over one year old.  When hired, a new engineer completes a nondisclosure agreement, which is filed with other …
