Peripherals

A peripheral device is defined as a computer device, such as a keyboard or printer, that is not part of the essential computer (i.e., the memory and microprocessor). These auxiliary devices are intended to be connected to the computer and used in conjunction with it. Examples of external peripherals include mouse, keyboard, printer, monitor, external Zip drive or scanner, while internal peripherals include CD-ROM drive, CD-R drive or internal modem. Today's new devices, such as tablets, smartphones and wearable computing devices are considered peripherals as they can be connected and used on a computer system. The difference, however, is that these devices can run independently of the computer system.

Is there a way to speed up the file transfer from Windows7 to USB 2.0 drive? A 3 GB file is taking 3 hours to transfer?

I have a Dell Precision 7510 laptop running Windows 10 and the microphone on the built in web camera is not working.  The camera works, I can see video.

When the user tries to join an online meeting they gets a message that says "microphone not detected".

I updated BIOS, chipset, audio drivers, etc.

Any ideas?

Any way to trouble shoot this and test microphone?

Thanks,
cja

I am setting up a gotomeeting event and I have a camera and laptop ready.  I am using a lapel mic and receiver that works just fine for audio for the meeting.  I was wondering if there was another setup I could use that would allow me to have 2 lapel mics and 1 receiver that would plug into the port on the laptop.  I have sent pics of the mic and receiver I currently am using.  I want 2 mics if possible so the presenters do not have to hand over the mic each time they speak at the podium.

I've been using Mk 520 wireless keyboards for a while. Very little problems. I recently customized a new computer and also installed Windows 10.  The keyboard is sporadic at times as is the mouse.  I anticipate it might be the keyboard.
Besides the keystrokes being "delayed" every so often, in outlook, the Shift-Select doesnt work sometimes. I found that if I double click the shift, then double click the control, then double click the windows keys, the functionality returns.
I dont know if these things are related or not (sounds a bit too hocus pocus to me ).  Are there any settings someone can think of , or, is there a better Wireless keyboard out there to consider?

I'm thinking about using Companionlink to sync my Outlook to my Android phone.

Have used it in the past.

Looking at connecting via Bluetooth as it's the simplest option.

Concerned about security.

Seems like the software sends data via Bluetooth encrypted.  So, checks one box.

Here's my question - after I get the phone and the PC paired I can turn off discoverability.  But...seems like, for my Win10 PC (and lots of others) turning off Bluetooth is not enough.  I've got to run services.msc to get discoverability  ACTUALLY turned off.

So, my question is: am I on the right track here: to ACTUALLY keep my PC undiscoverable I would have to run services.msc and disable it at that level?

Then, to the base of my question: somehow having my Outlook data transferred via Bluetooth is dismaying.  Should I have that concern?

My other options used to date have been using MS Exchange locally via a program called Akruto.  Or, using Companionlink over Wifi.  Each of these are also locally broadcasting my Outlook data to my phone.  (At one point I was even super secure syncing with Companionlink via USB cable.  Safe, but not efficient.)

So, my thinking now is this - if I can get Bluetooth discoverability ACTUALLY disabled on my PC and my phone that would reduce the chance when I'm on the road for a malefactor …

I have a Dymo Labelwriter 400 Turbo attached to one of my workstations, WIN25,   A Dymo Labelwriter 450 is connected to another of the workstations, WIN1.   When I use Dymo Connect on WIN25 to try to print a label, the only choice is the Labelwriter 450 on WIN1.   I have chosen the correct size of label, but I still cannot print on the Labelwriter 400 Turbo.

I think an old Dell 2709W monitor just died but want to check if I am overlooking anything. The monitor display suddenly became a mess of unreadable, moving colors. I did not take a picture of that but have two others below.

Here is a picture of the monitor's on screen menu:
on screen menu
And here is a picture of the text that moves around the monitor screen while no input is active:
screen saver with no input
The monitor looks the same way when disconnected from any computers and video input cables. The computer to which the monitor was connected when the failure occurred is working fine connected to another monitor.

I cannot read the on screen menu enough to try resetting the monitor to factory defaults.

In your experience is there a way to possibly restore proper operation of the monitor? Or should I stop investing time in it and replace it?

Thanks, Pete

My Logitech Anywhere Darkfield mouse could pair
with its Unifying Usb receiver & work well on my
home Win 7 or Win XP but on my office Win10
laptop, the pairing greys out : see attached

Q1:
How to fix this issue?

There's applications whitelisting on my Win10
laptop which office support colleague has
whitelisted the Logitech unifying software &
there's no more alert that pops up when
running the unifying software/pairing.

The unifying software is Ver 250:
4,147,600 bytes        Logitech_unifying250.exe

Is there a newer driver for Win10?

By plugging & unplugging more than 10 times,
sometimes, it detects the unifying receiver but
after using a while, mouse will not be detected
anymore (ie moving it will not move the cursor).

Q2:
Think I've seen in youtube that this Anywhere
mouse could be paired with other receivers?
How can we go about doing this (in case the
Unifying doesn't work).  Would still like to
use this Anywhere mouse as there's glass
surface at home/work.

We have a problem with some old software that will not be updated when we complete the switch to windows 10.  The author will not be making any newer versions of the software.

The old software basically acted as a serial printer.   I need to capture that data and have it converted to a text file and then will have some other software process the data.

Is there some 3rd party software that can receive the serial input and produce a text output?

Apple Airpods microphone is not working with Windows 10 Pro.

Screenshot_3.png
After some research I found this response saying the microphone will not work.  This is from two years ago.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7895762

Are there any new updates that will allow me to use my Airpods microphone on Windows 10?

Why do I need this ability?
I use Slack, Skype, Zoom daily and this would be nice to use and not have to resort to plugging in my earbuds to use those apps just so the microphone works.

Additional info:
When I use my Airpods with Zoom I've noticed that I can hear everyone talking through the Airpods, but I believe my laptop mic is still the one being used when I talk.  This is fine.  I can hear people talking in the Airpods and I can still use the laptop microphone.

When I use my Airpods with Slack or Skype I've noticed that as soon as I join a call all audio/mic is killed on the Airpods and I have to stop using the Airpods and plug in my earbuds to be able to talk/hear others on a call.  It would be awesome if Slack and Skype would allow me to do the same as I do with Zoom!

Eg Slack interface when I make or receive a phone call > Settings

No matter what option I choose here in the drop down I cannot get audio in the Airpods, but I have had success getting the laptop microphone to work.

I've tried 3 different brands of inks (for Brother MFC-J680DW) : all of which claims
they're compatible, including 3 from Amazon which won't get detected & would
give message like "try reinstall again": Blake,  IKong & Jarbo.
(I must say Blake's ink won't damage my Brother printer & was successfully
detected in older models of Brother printers of 5-8 years ago;  actually
Brother did not build chipsets on those old models at that time)

A local dealer ink999.com.sg claimed the same & I took my printer to test on
the spot & it failed to detect: he claimed my printer is not made locally & thus
his cartridge can't detect:  well I've bought original Brother cartridges (at four
times pricier than those compatibles) from eBay Hong Kong & Singapore
online & they are detected.

Q1:
does it really matter which country the printer & cartridge is made in.

Q2:
There are still a few brands in Amazon including Inkjetcorner & Vmosgo:
anyone know if they'll work with MFC-J680DW ?

One way is I drill hole in original cartridges & use syringes to transfer
over but this often results in drips/spills : very messy

I am looking for a 2-in-one laptop where the keyboard that comes with it, will still function in fully "detached" mode.

In order for the OEM keyboard that the laptop comes with to function in fully detached mode, it would have to have batteries and be chargeable from the laptop itself, as opposed to an add-on cable.

Assistance in finding this would still be greatly appreciated.

My Surface Pro 4 will not display on our new Insignia TV (not a smart tv).
My iPhone and my partner's Surface Book 2 will both display on the TV, so I know it is not the HDMI cable.
I checked and my Windows 10 is up to date, as is the graphics driver.

When I connect the Pro 4 to the TV, there is a momentary recognition of the HDMI input and the display resolution on the TV, then the TV display says No Signal.

As far as the Pro 4, one of three things happens:
1.  The screen goes black.
2.  Mouse and keyboard are nonresponsive but keyboard is lit; touch screen in unaffected
3.  Mouse and keyboard  are nonresponsive and the keyboard is not lit; touch screen is unaffected.
Control of the keyboard does not return until Pro 4 is disconnected from TV, plugged back into Surface docking station, and power cycled.

In Display Settings, the Pro 4  will not detect the TV. In Advanced Display Settings, it sees the Insignia TV but does not display to the Insignia.

Going to tablet mode seemed to make no difference.

Logitech Keyboard K350 I have been to the site and looked up solutions tried them all. The board is only 5 years old. THE ONLY thing I did unusual is disconnect the cables took my computer outside and with an air compressor blew out the dust and cat fur...! Put it back the unit came back up and unfortunately the keyboard and my Logitech M570 stopped working. So I went to the closet pulled out the old PS2 keyboard and fortunately was able to type this message spent about 2 hours on it last night following all the rules and nothing so far. Does anyone here know what I can try. Again nothing changed but the dust cleanout........frustrated.....!ARRRR!
I have been here to downloads at Logitech the drivers and update software. Restarted No Change.
And here with many other pages too long to list here.

Hi there!

I'm currently working with an HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 printer with a client and we've been having repeated issues with black streaking occurring across the page each time we attempt to print out a document. I've attached a scanned PDF document of a printed page from this printer for context.

We've already attempted to replace the ink cartridge as well as the drum, however the issue is repeating past both of these changes. For the ink cartridges, the client is using a Premium Imaging Cartridge CE255X.

Does anybody happen to have any ideas as to why we're not able to get these streaks to go away? Is it just a matter of using a genuine HP ink cartridge instead or does something else need to be done here?

Thank you for your time!
