A project is a temporary endeavor designed to produce a unique product, service or result with a defined beginning and end (usually time-constrained, and often constrained by funding or deliverables) undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value.

I had this question after viewing URL is changing after rewrite with proxy flag.

I am having a similar issue with my Jira instance, but rather than writing :8080 after the URL, :80 is getting inserted. I am not at all an Apache guru and am stumbling along using the Atlassian guides which have not been able to assist me with this problem.

In short: I configured Jira for SSL with Apache acting as a reverse proxy. I have The configs exactly as several guides recommend and when I hit the web pages at https://my.jira.site.com/jira the URL is changed to https://my.jira.site.com:80/jira. If I remove the :80 a couple times, the log in page will come up with the proper URL and will show secure with a valid cert.

After I put in my creds, it does the :80 thing a couple more times and then runs fine.

I am completely puzzled about this.

If someone thinks that they might have a thought, I can post my configs.

I've been asked to search for a good collaboration/project managing application
We’re trying to have a group of people, (around five or six users) share information about a project. All users need to see what everyone else is doing and need to be able to collaborate via email.
-      I recall around 12 years ago using a Microsoft project manager application which I thought was awful. I don't recall that it allowed email interaction
-      My first thought was Team. I have not yet used it or researched it
-      Not all users have Office 365 email. Many have free internet email accounts such as Gmail and Comcast
Looking for recommendation and opinions that would point me to a good project collaboration software program

In Git, how do I:
-sync only certain files
-sync from different repos but in 1 folder, f.e.
Folder1\Folder2
Folder1\Folder3
Folder1\Folder4

Sync full folder 1 to repo1 but only subfolder 3 to repo2
-auto sync = autopull, is it only possible via scheduled task (Windows, Powershell)?

Hi guys

I'm currently managing an entire infrastructure team at the moment and we've hired a third party to monitor all of our servers and infrastructure for us in the case of an emergency, so that they can handle it whilst we are all in lala land;). However, one issue I do have is that we do not have something like a 'runbook' which they can refer to. Now, I know that creating a run book can vary from company to company. Our systems consist of an infrastructure with many virtual machines, each of these virtual machines has a variety of applications running on them, some of them have POS systems, databases with SQL, order fullfilment systems etc.

If you were to have a runbook, how would you have yours and what would it consist of?

Any help would be great.

We have software development resources 3 users we have asked them to do development on the development server once the changes are accepted then they can commit to the production server. we are using BitBucket repository for version control, have following doubts
Production server administrator privileges of the application is disabled but development server  administrator credentials are enabled so that they develop, in this case is it recommend project manager will be as admin for the Bitbucket and once the developer develops and testing is done and user is accepted from the development server then project manager will execute the commit changes so that production server is updated, please suggest the best practice

We would like to keep tracking of many things, to produce reports based on date interval, etc.  Kind of things we would like to track are not necessarely "computer/network related":

  • Grant/Revoke access rights (computer, building access, etc)
  • Keep a list of downtime
  • Keep a tracking of non-conformity
etc...

Does anyone have a suggestion?  Preferably an Online solution.  We have seen many ISO27001 solutions, but they are all expensive.

(PS: We are actually using JIRA for task related actions, but it's not really good for reporting and it's more a solution to keep tracking of progress on a project related task)

Slightly complex situation here. I'm leading an infrastructure team. At the same time, we've got a service delivery manager who handles all of the change management, incidents etc and is running a rather strict ITIL methodology. We've also got the web team who have now been told that any changes, requests must be put through the service delivery team and that they have to adhere to the ITIL customs.

Now, the web team work with an Agile methodology. So they're pushing back and saying this does not work for them. Trying to see if there is a way to come up with something to get these guys to work together. I've just learned that Agile is not a set of processes but instead a set of values and principles. Which is completely the opposite to what ITIL is.

Have you ever dealt with such a scenario? Do you have any practical advice as to how to best tackle this?

Hi guys

I'm trying to come up with an effective way of creating a budget planning system that gives myself and the directors an idea of where we are on the project in comparison with the percentage of the budget spent.

Let's say we have signed off £100,000 for a project. We start the project and by the time 20% of the project is completed, we have burned through 50% of the budget already which, which could well be a disaster.

So two things I'm asking is:

a. Is there a way that you could apply a weighting system which would in turn give you an idea of how much of the project is done? Basically, a way of measuring the percentage of the project that has been completed/incomplete through entering data in necessary fields/excel sheets.

b. Is there a way of using the budget given to do some sort of comparison with the percentage of project completed, so that you could get an idea of what percentage of the budget we have gone through in comparison to the percentage completion of budget.

All of this would ideally be done in Excel.

Does this make sense? If it does, any input would be great. Perhaps you do it a different way and it has helped you and that input may help a lot too.

hi guys

The environment I'm working in has around 150+ servers. Our team have to apply patches and keep these servers updated on a regular basis which they haven't done as yet. Now, the issue we have is that these servers are not just owned by the infrastructure and security teams, as that would be easy to manage. But the business analysts, business intelligence and applications teams own a good percentage of these too.

I need to put strategies in place so that my team, infrastructure&security, ensures that when these updates are applied that the impact is minimised and that we don't suddenly have updates which affect the applications sitting on those servers and firefighting errors.

One of my ideas was to ensure that there is a testing environment. But if I did, would I then liaise with the development teams to replicate everything that is on the production environment onto their testing too and regularly? So that when they make changes to development, they do the same onto testing?

What is the approach you have found works best?

We have a requirement to use the Project Management Solution which to be of On-Premise deployment , to start with we require 04 users and these 4 users should have insights/able to track project tasks and they have to collaborate for this requirement I can see the on-Premise product of Microsoft Project Professional but I am not sure this works only for standalone user OR should we have to go for Microsoft Project Server please suggest on which product to procure for our need as mentioned above.

Don't know if there is a solution like this, but I am looking for a software or tool that I can use to have the programmers collaborating in software development, history software versions, privileges to access codes, able to assign programmer to specific codes, possibility to have start/end-dates for each software to developed that has been assign, possibility to have at least 2 o 3 programmers work with the code simultaneously (and when done, the software tool would merge all changes into the code) and finally some sort of history of each code on who have worked on it, who started it, who finished it.  The programmers work with VB. Net.

I got the ITIL foundation 2011 a while ago. I'd like to do the practitioner exam now. However, I can't find anything here that says whether I can now take the latest ITIL practitioner based on the 2011 foundation I have?

Does anybody here know whether I would have to take the foundation again?

I am attempting to create an automation in Jira (Atlassian) service desk software.
Having created a front end form, with relevant fields and check box lists.
Which is working mostly as it should.
The automation creates and allocates the information correctly....
with the exception.....my automation picks up all of the fields (check-boxes) selected and creates sub-tasks for all the check-box fields, however it does not differentiate between the ones that have been selected, and ignoring the ones that have not.

Therefore still presents all of the sub-tasks on the form (as tasks) - including as I say the ones that have not been selected.

As a total newbie to this I am sure it is in the if / then / else part of the automation....but am scratching my head wondering what I am not seeing.

Could be that I have to create some additional JQL statements to fulfil?
Not sure.

Hello, Experts.  I just started a position and I'm evaluating cloud based HelpDesk software.  Would like recommendations on a system that will do basic HelpDesk functionality (portal to case, email to case) as well as the ability to have several Queues.  I also need good integrated Inventory scanning and management and AD integration (Customer authentication to portal and for user selection and Inventory hardware to user matching).  Reporting is also important, what we don't track we didn't do.  I've looked at several products but would like some recommendations.
