Hi,

We have the local C drive locked down, no write access through a GPO. Is it possible to allow a folder, say Temp wrtie access but still keeping all other folders locked down?

Kind Regards,

DCK

So I thought I disabled everything I needed to stop this but it still prompts my users. Their My Documents points to a network drive so it wanted to sync between online and offline files. There is never a time when the server is down and if it is, my users don't do anything anyways becuase they cannot print. So I want to COMPLETELY DISABLE offline files so it does not prompt them to sync at logoff.

What I've done so far is: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files = Action on server disconnect (never go offline); Prevent use of Offline Files folder (enabled); Prohibit user configuration of Offline Files (enabled); synchronize all offline files before logging off (disabled).

Am I missing something here?? Thanks guys!

I am setting up new users on a new domain. I would like to have Roaming user profiles. I have setup the users in AD, and set their profiles to a specific folder on the server. Working fine.

I would like for them to have the same desktop settings, and IE shortcuts, etc... at whatever pc they log into. When I log them on one pc, change the background, log off and log into a second one then the background and settings are totally different.

I am using windows server 2008.

Hi Experts,
What are the best practices one should follow while building an automation test harness?
I have googled a little bit about it. However I would like to know what the experts recommend?
I would love to hear from other people too those who had experienced  problems and how the practices were effective in preventing them.
thanks in advance guys

I create a user in AD, and set the profile path of user automatically under profile properties. When the user is created, the profile folder is successfully created under the "Profiles" folder that was specified.

When I (the administrator) attempt to access this persons profile folder it is saying i don't have permission to view it.

How do I get the folder to be created while giving me access to the folder as well as the user...

I have an interview tomorrow for a Junior Internal Systems Engineer and one of the questions might be: What is your understanding of computer network design and maintenance in a user environment supporting 50 developers?

I am a CCNA but need guidance on what I should talk about in the interview regarding the job title. What should I talk about in terms of Network design and maintenance?

Server 2008 STD x64 and windows 7 clients
--------------------------------------------------------------
So I was playing around with the folder re-direction. I basically created a GPO and set this one username to redirect the "documents folder".

1 - i created a share on the server and named it "USERS"

2 - I gave everyone full rights on the share

3 - i created a GPO and edited the user -> policies -> windows settings -> folder re-direction -> documents to "Setting: Basic (Redirect everyone's folder to the same location)", pointed it to the shared directory.

4 - i went to a client computer (windows 7) and ran a "gpupdate /force"

5 - logged off and logged on again

and it seems to work....

it can't be this simple, I must have done something wrong. I have read the guides and they have like 139 steps in them. This seems to simple, what have i done wrong?

I am trying to figure out a way to lock a user down to his location only.
I want this user to only have full ability to manage his servers and his users which are kept in a separate OU.
I want to take him out of the Domain Admins groups and put him into a less powerful group so he cannot touch the infrastructure, but I want him to have the ability to manage his servers and join computers to the domain.
I have looked into Delagation, but do not see anything in there about allowing him access to his servers or to join computers to the domain.
Please let me know your thoughts

Hi all,

I know what I want to do, but not sure how to ask the question or even present the facts.  So bear with me...

I want usernames that are members of 'Remote Desktop Users' (or some other, similar group, maybe 'RDP Access') to be able to rdp into any box in our domain.

We have a Windows network with two Win2003 domain servers, two Win2003 application servers, and 15 (and counting) Windows XP Pro workstations.  The username 'Administrator' is disabled on all boxes.  There is a local username 'loc_adm' for each box for local administration in case it's needed.  All other authentication is done via Active Directory authentication.

We use RDP extensively to administrate all our boxes.  However, when we try to RDP into any box other than a domain server with a username other than 'loc_adm', we get an error 'The Local Policy of this system does not permit you to login interactively'.

I think I understand what this is actually saying.  When a user 'joeblow' (let's say) tries to rdp into a box, user 'joeblow' does not exist locally, so access is denied.

Except that 'joeblow' does exist in Active Directory.  And 'joeblow' is a member of 'Remote Desktop Users' in Active Directory.  And 'joeblow' can log in if he's sitting at the local machine.  I had thought that AD policies took precedence over local policies?

Googling this error simply says to put user 'joeblow' into the group 'Remote Desktop Users' on the machine in question.  Except that 'joeblow' doesn't …

Hello, we are a small IT company that is looking for an inexpensive helpdesk system.

We are 5 technicians supporting random clients.

What we would like is for the users to be able to send an email to support@mydomain.com
and that way it would be logged and it would appear in our helpdesk system.

It would also be nice if the technicians could connect to the end user in an easy way using remote support.

Our budget is around 3000 usd.

Any great ideas out there?

To a server from a remote server using keys with no password
on a UNIX server (Solaris xx)

Hello experts,

We are having an issue with some workers possibly fibbing on their time sheets. We dont have time clocks, so we'd like to use computer login's as "check up" on what time the user actually came in.

If at all possible we'd like to be able to view a log on what time the user logged into the domain. If there is any way to display this, we'll tell the staff that they need to login to their computers first thing when they arrive in the mornings as we will check this to confirm their time sheets and if they don't log in, we can assume they are lying on their time sheets.

Sorry for bringing in the office side with the tech side, but it's something my bosses ask if we could do!

I just discovered that standard users on my server 2008 AD network can install programs without having to have the admin username and password.

I am unsure why this is, it was asking for admin credentials earlier last week. I checked the GPO's and nothing has changed or should affect this privilege.

Anyone have any ideas what happened or how i reset it to "demand administrator account to install or make major changes"?

Hello

I am just wondering if there is a way to run audits on group policy items and errors to alert me when accounts are locked out or other actions are taken as a result of group policy.

Thanks

Looking for some suggestions on how to redesign our network.

Currently we have 2x wan connections:-
- 4/4M fibre (ethernet port) used for web / email servers, trixbox voip, vpn
- 20000/1024Kbps aDSL used for general web surfing by users

Currently they each go to their own firewall/routers then onto our LAN. The DSL connection router has an untangle box in between it and the lan to provide filtering/blocking to the users.

I am considering putting on another aDSL connection to give our users more speed too.

So initially wondering if I should get a router to connect all 3 WAN connections into or keep the server side stuff separate from the user web traffic? Having it all in one would be nice for management I guess.

Hoping to find some device which isn't over complex to setup so that we can continue to setup in house rather than requiring vendor specific knowledge. Should allow us to dedicate a portion of bandwidth on the fibre to voip only.

Currently using snapgear/cyberguard/securecomputing and now known as mcafee linux based UTM devices, SG580 and SG560. Also have HP procurve L2 switches.
We are a small business with 40ish staff.

I am trying to break a large data set that contains purchase information into a dimensional model. I have various attributes related to the Item purchased.  I do have an Item Number but it is not unique across different manufacturers. The Item is unique by MFR_ID and Item_ID.   I have a Manufacturer dimension that contains a MFR_ID and MFR_NAME.

In my Item dimension, would it be best to include both these fields as separate attributes in this dimension or should I concatenate them to create one unique item identifier?

I have a question
I am currently a reporting system, the function of this system is to control the printing of certificates, that is, if you print one or more times, I need to get that control.
To make this system need two tables: The table has 40 field course and the student table has 30 fields. To print the certificate from the table need 12 field course and the student table 13 fields. I create my own tables, but I want to know whether it is necessary to bring those 25 fields to my tables, for example: One thing that I bring to my system tables is: names, but that figure is a master table, my question is if I should bring me to my system
1. code and the names (with this option I am repeating data)
or only
2. code and then refer to the master table (with this option do not repeat)
