Quality assurance (QA) is a way of preventing mistakes or defects in products and systems, and avoiding problems when delivering solutions or services to customers. QA is applied to software to verify that features and functionality meet business objectives, and that code is relatively bug free prior to shipping or releasing new software products and versions. Quality assurance comprises administrative and procedural activities implemented in a quality system so that requirements and goals for a product, service or activity will be fulfilled. Two principles included in quality assurance are: "Fit for purpose" (the product should be suitable for the intended purpose); and "right first time" (mistakes should be eliminated).

Hi all, does anyone have experience in using test cases in Microsoft Test Manager? Should I create all test cases in one suite or can I reuse test cases in more suites, like using shared steps? Thanks!

My company was recently acquired and we are in the process of formalizing a bunch of things.  As a result we are moving towards a quarterly executive update that covers all things IT from recurring problems, ongoing operations, recommended solutions and wish lists.  I've never seen one of these before.  Does any know where i can find a sample?

Hi,

I am trying to click "Images" link in Google page.
The browser I am using is Chrome. you go to Google and enter something on the searchbox, then all the links are appeared.  I was successful up to this point. After this, I right clicked my mouse on Image hyperlink on Google and selected "Inspect element' option. There was no 'id' for Images hyperlink
Some of codes I used for this were
var imageLink =  driver1.FindElement(By.XPath(@"//*[@id=""hdtb_msb""]/div[3]/a"));
var imageLink =  driver1.FindElements(By.ClassName("q_qs"))[2];
I also used LinkText and TagName, but the exceptions were returned.

I am using C# in Visual Studio 2013 ultimate version.
Can anybody help me with this?

I'm looking for a bug tracking / feature tracking system that is designed with categorized threads.

For instance, we are using one with set fields for submitting the problem, describing the solution, test steps, test results, and then when it goes back with some more problems, all the fields are already filled in from previously and you can't differentiate between the original stuff in the fields and the new comments you want to make. What a nuisance! (axosoft)

So I want something that allows submission as threads.
You submit a comment, categorize it under the possible categories and all you have to look at are the ones at the bottom to see the new stuff. You can comment and ask questions back and forth without having to have a ton of custom fields on a screen. I just want a threaded, categorized list, that allows pasting of images within the comment boxes (not uploads and attachments, but true pasting in, unlike Experts-Exchange which requires an upload and embedding).

Anyone know of such a thing?

thanks!

Hi,

Can someone explain Versioning  in more detail on Master Data Services 2012/2014? I have visited MSDN but it clearly does not go into much detail.

I am currently using a version Flag. But how can I be sure that I am using the latest version of data, if there are have been any amendments made to the data.

Thanks

I am trying to validate a Model on Master Data Services 2012/2014. When I click validate, the status shows 'Waiting to be validated' or 'Waiting to be revalidated', it never shows 'Validation succeeded'.
I am not using any Business Rules.
When looking at the SQL Server MDS Database Subscription view, some of the views' validations shows: 'Validation Succeeded' but the majority show  'Waiting to be validated' or 'Waiting to be revalidated'.

How can I ensure that the Validation status on MDM shows 'Validation Succeeded' ?

I have a .NET program which uses a text file from which some information is read and inserted into the application during its use.  Over time, it has turned out that the information in the text file has become valuable, sensitive and confidential.  I would want to encrypt that text file, and some how have it loaded into RAM after the application decrypts it when called upon.

Could someone please provide some guidance on how this could be done, and maybe some steps that would need to be taken to accomplish the application restructuring.

Thanks.

Dear Gurus,

This is about DB2 LUW 10.5 on AIX machine. A new application is being readied for performance testing in a QA environment and I have several questions about detailed key performce metrics that I should collect and report on.

I want to collect KPIs at
(a) the server level -         CPU utilization
                    Memory utilization
                    Storage utilization metric
                    IO utilization
                    Paging space utilization
  Top utilization CPU, Memory and IO Process ids

(b) At the Instance level -   Instance available memory and used memory

(c) the database level  -   Database total memory
                    Transaction arrival rate
                      Transaction wait times
  How long to collect this metrics (collect evey 5, 10 ,15 or 20 minutes interval)
                    Buffer pool hit ratio
                       Storage utilization metric
  Package cache hit ratio (Total space and available space)
  catalog cache hit ratio (Total space and available space)
  Total number of connections and locks
  Total number of reads, writes, updates and deletes on the database
  Top n SQL involved in excessive locking activities
  Top n SQL or othe agent using very high CPU utilizing
  Top n SQL or other agents using very high log space.

In all categories listed above, could esteemed members of this group and especially those with superior performance
monitoring, analysis and tuning please jump in and share your expertise and wisdom on how best to go about collecting
  the various metrics, …

I need to do some load/capacity testing on Windows 7/2008 and 2012. It involves having to mimic a situation where there are maybe 100+ printers installed on the machine.  All I'm interested in is having the printers 'there' and sending output to a port where it will be picked up by some other software and effectively put in a big black hole.

Creating 100+ dummy printers manually would take ages so I wondered if anyone knew of a way to automate this process and (if possible) specify a sequence for the printer names i.e. P1, P2, P3....P100?

Many thanks

At the start of any major project there is typically a design specification.  As the project progresses new requirements naturally emerge. My questions are,

Once the original design specification is determined how rigid do you or your team adhere to that spec.?

How do you manage the balance between time to market and the never ending release date?

And where do you draw the line on changes that are significant to a customers needs and version x wish list items?

Thanks,
Ron

With LogMeIn Central's exorbitant price hike, we settled on ScreenConnect as a self-hosted pay-once solution for remote administering client computers.  (The buy-in price for ScreenConnect is a little steep, but it includes LMI Rescue functionality that wasn't included in Central, so we'll be coming out ahead in less than two years despite buying the $4500 unlimited-session license.)

AutoTask is even more expensive than LogMeIn--I'd estimate that we're paying around $4K per year for AutoTask Pro with 6 techs.  I'd much prefer to internalize that cost with a self-hosted pay-once solution--we've got plenty of bandwidth and computing power to support doing so.  I figure some of you must use something other than AutoTask, so what have you found works well as an alternative?

We use the following components of AutoTask:
--CRM (client contact info, passwords, etc)
--Ticketing (creating trouble tickets and documenting their solutions)
--Recurring billing (monthly service contracts)
--QuickBooks connectivity (to export tickets and contracts for billing purposes)

Basically, we use the AutoTask Go! functionality--we don't take advantage of any of the Pro features.  The only reason we subscribe to Pro is that Go! only supports up to 3 techs and we grew beyond that point a few years back.  We've got 100+ clients that are being managed by AutoTask.

Thanks!
