I'm trying to assist a client in exporting transactions (quotes, for example) from one QB file to another.  I realize that this is not supported in QB normally and that there are third-party applications to do it, but that's not what I'm looking for.

A few years back I found an undocumented method provided (not sure if it was on EE or elsewhere) by someone who claimed to have worked at Intuit that did the trick.  You had to type some very odd sequence of keys and eventually an additional menu items came up on the Export and Import menus that allowed just about anything to be exported or imported.  I believe that once you had enabled these new options, you didn't have to use the "magic key sequence" again.

I do recall that I tested it on some dummy files and it worked quite well.  Unfortunately, I seem to have lost track of the method.

Is anyone aware of this and can provide the details?

I need someone who can figure out how to delete a "condensed" Journal Entry in QB and provide a utility to do this.  If you do not know what this type of entry is, please do not respond.
Thanks,

Hello Experts,
I have a new client (two to three employees) who like to use QuickBooks remotely. I was thinking to built a windows 2012 server foundation and configure it in a workgroup environment, create shared folders and install printers to use it as a file server, Print server, in addition install Terminal services and install QuickBooks so these few users be able to remotely use QuickBooks at the same time.
Microsoft indicated " •      Remote Desktop Services: The Remote Desktop Session Host role may be installed on Foundation, but only in a workgroup configuration."
I am not sure why it says "May Be Installed". Does it mean it may not?
Can anyone advise please.
Thank you.

Last night I tried a condense on a customers QB Pro 2016 file because every year, they hit the limit on customers so we have to condense the file.  They don't want to spend the money to go to Enterprise which would alleviate this issue.  I thought we did all of the necessary backups, etc but it took over 6 hours and it seemed to lock up at 99% on Step 2 of 4 - I saw another inquiry on this from a while back but didn't have a lot of explanation to it.

I am trying to install the data manager for quickbooks 2016 on a network share. Quickbooks says it can be done but is not supported. I am hoping someone can give me some advise on how to move the DM.

Hi all,

I know this question has been asked before, but I'm hoping that with the more recent versions, this might be possible:

Both computers running QB Pro 2015. Same file name, same chart of accounts, etc., but each computer has been doing its own thing on its own data file.

Is there any way to merge data from one to the other? If not, is there an intermediary method (using Excel maybe)?

Thanks in advance.

Hey All,

I am experiencing an issue I have never seen. I have a quickbooks company file that will not open if I relocate it to directory with all the others so it resides inside a sub directory. it will open unless I rename the name of the folder it resides in.

Ex.
company.qbw resides in a folder named \data\company.qbw and opens fine.
company2.qbw resides in folder \data\temporary\company2.qbw and opens fine. unless I move it to \data\ or rename \data\temporary\

The quickbooks server is windows 2008 r2. 64-bit and the quickbooks version is enterprise 7.

It appears as some kind of permissions issue but I have tried everything, I was successful in moving company2.qbw file to data\
and opening it from the \data\ location however, when I delete the old location \data\temporary\ it no longer opens from \data\.

NOTE: the file opened just fine until I ran update on the server os because it had been over 2 years since security updates .

please help!
Thanks in advance

ErrorMessage:'SELECT returns more than one row' from file:'src\dmedlsqlcontacteditelement.cpp' at line 2686 from function:'DMEDLContactEditElement::LoadAdditional'

That error started about a month ago whenever we run balance sheet. We were able to figure out that it's an entry from 2008 in the amount of $20.74. Intuit techs say they need the file for 5 days to diagnose and maybe fix... we can't do that, way too long to be without QB.

I need to know:

Is it possible that this error will grow and corrupt the whole file? It doesn't bother us except when we run the balance sheet, no big deal.

If yes, then where do I find an onsite QB data repair tech?

On a Windows 7 SP1 Pro machine, I uninstalled .NET Framework 4.6.2. When I go to reinstall It goes through the install process to a point and then rolls back saying there is a Windows error. I have run the .NET fix tool, the .NET clean up tool and nothing seems to allow the reinstallation of the .NET framework 4.6.2. This component is needed to run QuickBooks on this PC. Would like to avoid reloading Windows over this if possible.

A client of mine uses QuickBooks Premier Edition of Manufacturing and Wholesale. It is Registered with 3 seats. Her last good backup of her Windows Server 2008 R2 was on Friday, October 28th at 11:30pm using Windows Server Backup. When she came into work on Monday, October 31st, all the files that were located in the shared S: drive on the server, which is where all the QB related files and work files are located were encrypted with systemdown@indial.com.xtbl. None of the files in the C: drive were encrypted. Even though the S: drive is just a mapping to a portion of the C: drive. Normally I would call this a RANSOMWARE virus. But we were able to use the server without problem. Office, Adobe, and Server all functioned normally as long as I did not try to access the encrypted files. Server Control Panel apps all worked and displayed information without a problem. The only PROBLEM  was that there was no RANSOMWARE NOTE! Telling me that my files were encrypted and to get them back, I had to pay a bitware ransom.
I was lucky to be able to copy all the encrypted files to an external hard drive and then restore the backup from October 26th to the original location. It worked fine. QB is able to lookup, process, print, etc, except of course there is no data from October 26 going forward which is ok. We did not want to take a chance of restoring encrypted files. The client was able to restore the 10 invoices missing without incident.
I know that the server and a few PCs ran …

I am currently studying a module on Software Project Management - and have this book as one of my main tools.
Books is very thorough and informative, however it is hard-copy. And this makes quick reference and searching very time-consuming.
Do any of you know if there is a link to a "searchable" download library version, online?

This would make things so much quicker, and allow me to focus on my studies.

Any assistance gratefully received.

I am using QODBCto connect Excel to Quickbooks. I have created an insert line that works correctly but I am unable to add a second line. From my reading of the  documentation, adding the value, "FQSaveToCache" as true (1)  should tell Quickbooks to continue the lines but I have not been successful (The multilines are for a purchase order)

Here is my original insert which successfully produces a single line:

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc, PurchaseOrderLineQuantity, TemplateRefListId, VendorRefListId, FOB, CustomFieldOther1, VendorMsg,) VALUES ('" & PO_Description & "', " & PO_Qty & ", '" & PO_Template & "' , '" & PO_VendorListID & "', '" & PO_FOB & "', '" & PO_Buyer & "', '" & PO_VendorMessage & "' )"

Here is my attempt at 2 lines which fails:

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc, PurchaseOrderLineQuantity, TemplateRefListId, VendorRefListId, FOB, CustomFieldOther1, VendorMsg, FQSaveToCache) VALUES ('" & PO_Description & "', " & PO_Qty & ", '" & PO_Template & "' , '" & PO_VendorListID & "', '" & PO_FOB & "', '" & PO_Buyer & "', '" & PO_VendorMessage & "', 1)"

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc, PurchaseOrderLineQuantity, TemplateRefListId, VendorRefListId, FOB, CustomFieldOther1, VendorMsg, FQSaveToCache) VALUES ('" & PO_Description & "', " & PO_Qty & ", '" & PO_Template & "' , '" & PO_VendorListID & "', '" & PO_FOB & "', '" & PO_Buyer & "', '" & PO_VendorMessage & "', 0)"

I am new to QODBC but not SQL.  I am trying to eliminate manual data entry for a special project for my company.

On every invoice in our system, or each "Item" on each invoice, there is text field called "Description".  I need to replace the text that is currently in the "Description" field with the text "service".  See attachment for an example.

I want to update every invoice in our quickbooks database like this.  We need todo this, because we have private information in that text field, and I need to provide a copy of my quickbooks database to a 3rd party.

What would be the QODBC code to accomplish this?  I am open to another method (besides QODBC).  I just need to get this done ASAP.  I have also posted a freelance job post on upwork to see if I can pay someone to code this for me.

Thank you ahead of time for your help.

In the following environment
A Windows 7 ultimate machine
Staff log in to this machine from their workstation via Remote Desktop connection use the applications installed on this machine and save there all files.

What I want to accomplish
I am adding an outside assistance to do data entry in quickbooks but want he should “only” see the quickbooks program and file he will be working on no other programs/icons/ files (as in a server environment with sharing permissions) is there a way to accomplish this in this environment?
If not so restrict access would be the only option.  Is the only way to do it by restricting folder by folder that has documents in it (even so it's not secure against opening programs that save their data in the program folder) since restricting the C drive is not an option (maybe it is and then share the quickbooks program folder and file folder, don't think it will work)?

PS it's a accounting office so confidentiality is required.

I'm having a lot of problems with QB data files stored on Win Server 2012 and 2012 R2 across a variety of clients.

I constantly have to stop the DNS and Windows Firewall services, run the DB Server manager to scan the files, then start DNS and Firewall.  If I dont stop those services the scan fails saying the firewall is blocking the manager.

All proper ports are allowed through the firewall.

Really dont know what to do anymore.  Qb support is absolutely no help.

Hello,

I can successfully transfer data from Excel to Quickbooks (via QODBC) as long as my data types are strings as per this example:

sSQL = "INSERT INTO Customer (Name, ParentRefListId, AccountNumber) VALUES ('" & CustomerNameString & "', '" & ParentRefString & "', '" & JobNumberString & "')"

Or I can mix strings and physical numbers such as in this example:

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc,  PurchaseOrderLineQuantity) VALUES ('" & PurchaseDescription & "', 12)"

However, assigning an integer variable to replace the physical number using this technique doesn't work; my variable is interpreted as a column header:

Dim PurchaseDescription as String
Dim PurchaseQty as Integer

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc,  PurchaseOrderLineQuantity) VALUES ('" & PurchaseDescription & "', PurchaseQty)"

This is the error I get:

Variable interpreted as column header
If I try enclosing my integer variable in single or double quotation marks, I get a data mismatch error

sSQL = "INSERT INTO PurchaseOrderLine (PurchaseOrderLineDesc,  PurchaseOrderLineQuantity) VALUES ('" & PurchaseDescription & "', 'PurchaseQty')"

Data Mismatch

I have been at this hours and hours and I'm really frustrated. I'm sure my syntax is the issue. Is there anyone familiar with how to mix strings and integers in this type of a statement? Thank you so much for any help.

Hello,

Does anyone have working knowledge of setting up Quickbooks in a domain/network environment, where the users that have access to the QB share still cannot copy or delete the QBW file?

https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/834011-how-to-prevent-users-from-deleting-company-file-in-quickbooks-enterprise , the only solution is really a non-solution: "So basically the answer is you cannot prevent someone from being able to delete the company file as it is required that everyone have read/write and delete permissions.  The only way to protect the file is to make sure someone is logged into the Quickbooks accessing that company file all the times.  The file cannot be deleted if it is open or in use.  In fact the only recommendation support could give me was to make sure I do regular backups."

Thanks!

We are getting a message that we cannot file State/Federal taxes from an user account that has total access.  It says that we have to be signed in as the administrator  or an external account.

Is that correct or is there some permission I can give the person to allow them to file the taxes from their account

If I export data to excel and I have a deposit that had multiple entries. The deposit shows "split" on the Excel sheet.
This causes a huge amount of work associating the "split" to the correct ledger numbers.
I want the corresponding entries to export together. Or is there another way to get at the data?
