I need some help in estimating the time it would take to build a QuickBooks server.

Currently  8 Users who need access to QB. 3 other users in the main office who don't need QB access.  10 users on remote jobsites with variable hotspot access that I was thinking of leaving in their own Workgroup if possible. Current environment is a standalone QB server in a Workgroup - no DC/AD as the OS is Multipoint Server. All users on O365.  

So, I'm scoping out the project but need help in estimating the time.  Proposed server to have 8-10 Cores, with 4 Hyper-V VMs.  8 HDDs RAID 6

VM0: 2 Cores, 4GB RAM: ADDS Server - File & Print, DNS, DHCP
VM1: 4 Cores, 16GB Ram: RDSH, QuickBooks
VM2: 2 Cores, 4GB Ram: RDBroker/GW/Web
VM3: 2 Cores,  8GB RAM: SQL


In addition to the server build time, I have to factor in the time to add 15 Office PCs (11 LT/DT & 4 Surface Pros ) to the domain and transfer profiles.   What are reasonable times to factor in to this build?

Hey, we have been having a strange problem with our Quickbooks POS ver 13 multi user installation in a club setup (4 machines). Customers have to recharge their accounts before ordering and the big problem we have is discrepancies between current and available balances. However,the sale transactions are posted in real time but the balances take seem time to synchronize(happens  to a random member account irregularly ) and we have changed the LAN routers and cabling and the problem is still persisting. The charge to account is posted after some delays of a few hours. We have integrated the solution to Quickbooks premier for financial exchange. Our company file is 500MB big and the connectivity tool doesn't post any errors. The environment is available for remote access any time. Any pointers?

I am getting the following error message with Quickbooks when using RDS 2016.

I have this setup with other servers and this error does not appear.

Things I have already checked:
  • Verified that IE Enhanced Security Configuration is disabled for both users and administrators
  • I have even enabled a GPO to set the Internet zone to medium

Neither of these settings have helped, on this particular server.

Once you click cancel on the error, everything works but it's an annoyance.

Anyone else have any ideas on a fix?

I had this question after viewing Importing an iif BILL into the Expenses tab???.  I still cannot figure out how to create an iif bill that will import with ITEMS rather then EXPENSES.  I cannot find a sample iif anywhere that will import into QB2016 with bill items.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: just a very simple example of a minimal iif that creates a bill with items.  I have found some example IIF's that are very complex and when I import them as a test they always create bills as "expenses".  The items tab is always empty.  Is it a problem with accounts not matching (between the iif and my QB company file)?

I have a customer with Quickbooks 2016 and is needing to print out all the invoice clear back to January 1 of 2015.  Is there a way to do this in a batch form instead of manually printing off invoice by invoice?

I am trying to start using the Quickbooks Web Connect Import. The problem is it isn't reading the entire line description. It will only read the first initial of the name. I believe it stops after so many characters.

About 75% of our transactions are through Chase Quickpay. The transactions look like this "QuickPay with Zelle Payment to Richard Smith" when we use the import, all quickbooks read is "QuickPay with Zelle Payment to R"

Then they create a rule for this... which then assigns any quickpay to a vendor with first initial "R" to Robert Smith.

Is there a way for it to read more characters? I do see the rest of the link in the "Bank Memo" but it doesnt' seem to read those with rules.

Solution: Windows 7 problem - Download and run QuickBooksDesktopPDFTool then from your computer run "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 18.0\reboot.bat"

Substitute QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 18.0 with your version.
May also happen with Windows 2008 and 2012.

Hello Experts,
I'm working with a company that uses QuickBooks Pro 2007.  The system is running fine.  They recently purchased and installed QuickBooks Pro 2018.  The 2007 data file will not convert into 2018 using the normal QuickBooks methods.  I understand through some research that this is expected.  Before I call QuickBooks, I was wondering if anyone had resolved a similar situation and if they would be willing to share their solution.

Problem with Turbo Tax copying data from Quick Books 2016. It is too late now but I need to solve this problem. I keep all my business details in QuickBooks 2016 and need to have Turbo Tax to pull the data over at the end of the year. This is the first year it could now. Keep getting an error "We are not able to access this company file because we cannot login to the file automatically. If the file is password-protected, enter the password in the password window, otherwise open company file in QuickBooks and try again." I have done all that but still have error.

We use Quickbooks on a Remote server that our employees use Remote Desktop to access.  The setup works great for the most part, but we run into periodic printing issues that are fixed by rebooting the server.

I am thinking this is somehow related to the Quickbooks QBPRINT.QBP file, and the fact in our peak times we have 10-12 people on the server using Quickbooks.

The issue we run into happens periodically but I am unable to find a specific process that starts it.  Generally, when 1 person tries to print, they'll get an error saying the "File is already in use... " (and I think that's the QBPRINT.QBP file.  Once that error shows, no one will be able to print moving forward and we need to reboot to fix.

Any known issues or limitations that may be causing our issues?   Any setup or work-arounds that we need to implement to fix?

I'm not an expert in this area but is there some way to setup that file for multi-access or setup some type of spooling?  It seems perhaps the timing may be an issue with everyone using the system at the same time.

I am trying to migrate data from Quickbooks Enterprise 17 to Dynamics GP 2013. I am using Microsofts RapidStart Migration tool. Three of the errors that show up in the log I cannot figure out. See below. Any help is appreciated.

I am seeking some advice regarding an Azure configuration I have just done.

The client will be using:

Quickbooks Enterprise
Quotewerks Corporate edition
ACT!

The client has had these running on 2 Physical Servers (on-premise) both running Windows 2012 R2. Both physical servers ran Hyper-V. On one server 2 Virtual servers were set up - one as an AD DC and the other as an Application Server. The second physical server had RDS running as a Hyper-V Virtual Server and a second DC as a separate Virtual Server. From what I understand he was using Terminal Services through the RDS Server to provide a desktop for the clients to login to.

He engaged me to provide a complete cloud-based solution with no AD information being transferred from his existing domain.

My approach in Azure has been:

Azure Active Directory Domain Services
3 Virtual LANs - Master (10.0.0.0/24) and 2 subnet LANS - Management (10.0.1.0/24) and RDS (10.0.2.0/24)
2 Virtual Servers both on the RDS subnet with Windows 2016 Standard configured on one and Windows 2012 R2 / SQL Server 2012 on the other
1 Virtual Workstation (Windows 10 Pro) used for AD Management on the Management subnet

The Windows 2016 Virtual Server which will contain the applications is also configured with Hyper-V and RDS working with a Personal Virtual Desktop Collection of 5 Windows 10 Pro workstations (Gen2 virual workstations) which will be allocated to the users.

Access to the 5 workstations will be via the RDS Web …

Good morning,
      I have 2 servers, one a domain server and the other machine a Windows 7 machine setup for our quickbooks. We have 9 users usually that are connected at all times and can get to all shares on the domain server. Never lose connection etc.... Now 2 users that are trying to get to the quickbooks share on the Windows 7 machine can't keep connected to the share. I have checked power settings, regedit etc... The only way to re establish connection is to reboot the Quickbooks server(Windows 7 machine). Everyone else stays connected but 2 machines. Any suggestions?

Anyone familiar of a company or individual that provides consulting or support for Expensify?  Looking for some sort of phone support - only support provided by the company is through email.  I am having problems with it's syncing/integration with QuickBooks.

We have a client that has 30 users on qbooks 2017 enterprise. they are running on a new dell server in hyper-v and using RDS. This environment has been running for 10+ years without an issue (other than quickbooks sucking). windows 10 dell pc's. the file runs well for a while then an error comes upthe error we get when quickbooks goes unresponsive. no one can get back in after this. we've had the file rebuilt thinking it was the file and it worked for 8 hours. intuit has been no help can't get a competent tech. watchgaurd firewall, cisco poe switch. backups using replibit device. we really need quickbooks high level tech expertise. we have a dba, programmer and two techs on the tshoot.

the file fails even from the console.

we tested on multiple stand alone pc's off the network and the file fails

we put the file on the hyper v host and attached local quickbooks installed pc's to it and it failed. (taking out rds).

the failure is not predictable happens 7 hours in, then may go another 1hr then 30 minutes, etc.

our log shows no discernible trend.

I have an Employee that is unable to open a QuickBooks file. They get a "Missing name list problem", Quickbooks suggests to resort the list but how is that possible when we can't get into the file?

Hello experts,

Whenever I try to export reports to excel , it automatically change (duplicate) value of all entry. And most of the time it won’t even export. I am using multi user and we have 2 users and both are having same issue. I tried rebuilding data file but still having issue. I did quick book doctor scan and 0 issue found. Please help!

I have tried everything i know and i can not get quicken 2017 home and business to install.  When it comes to the installing netframe 4.6.1 page (also on that page is install quicken 2017 and update quicken 2017) it hangs up.  hard to know what it is hung up on because the check boxes do not visually get advanced or checked.   I have manually gone to microsoft and installed 4.6.1 and 4.6.2 and on the progess bar it always hangs at the same spot.  I have tried runing as adminstrator and i have looked to delete what has already been installed but do not find where that has landed.  I do not see it in the x86 folder. i am running the latest version of Windows 10 64bit.

As of Quickbooks 2017 R5 and Quickbooks 2018 I am getting a licensing issue in XenDesktop

Citrix says its a 3rd party application issue
Quickbooks says they don't support Citrix

We have been using Quickbooks in XenDesktop for years just recently having issues.

what i have figured out so far
installing all additional packageds with the quickbooks 2018 installation doesn't affect the licensing service.

once quickbooks is installed

A netstat will show the following missing

picaSvc2.exe  1494
picaSvc2.exe 2598

Event viewer doesn't show any errors

citrix event viewer shows license not available when users attempt to login
if you use rdp instead of citrix your able to function fine.

When creating a "Summarize Payroll Data" report from Quickbooks to Excel, the "State Wage Listing" tab defaults to the wrong "Tax Tracking" filter.

It used to default to "SUI Company", but now defaults to "Medicare Additional Tax", and the desired outcome is that it defaults to "SUI Company" again. Office 2016 is used.

Intuit support provided varying feedback. One technician we spoke to seemed to know the issue and indicated a Microsoft Update might be responsible, other technicians weren't sure, or suggested we submit a feature request to the development team.

Has anyone come across this before, and found a solution?
