Systems Center Configuration Manager (SCCM, formerly known as Systems Management Server) is Microsoft’s system software for managing large groups of not only Microsoft computers, but those running other operating systems, such as Linux, OS-X, and various mobile technologies.

Hello,

I’m running vSphere 6.7 and a VM which is my SCOM Server is having high CPU and I/O. How can I report performance on this server and attempt to isolate the service for which is pegging resources? How would an expert approach this scenario?

Thank you so much!

Last week our firewall reports identified a new SaaS application in use: New Relic going to bam.nr-data.net/

I know what the application does, I just don't know how it got there.

We've tried pulling PCAPs, firewall reports, asking app dev if they installed it, asking the vendor if someone is paying for it, even searching for redirects to the site in Windows.

Experts, can you please provide some recommendations on how else to find the source of the redirect?

Some tools we have available: Wireshark, firewall, endpoint clients, SCCM, lite SIEM, unfortunately no web application firewall.

Regards,
Steph

SCCM Client Settings for Software Updates

in SCCM Client settings, there are these options:

--When any software update deployment deadline is reached, install all other software update deployments with deadline coming within a specified period of time

--Period of time for which all pending deployments with deadline in this time will also be installed

Any SCCM expert to explain what they mean by that ?

Thank you

When should I use ADR

It Makes sense using ADR fo Definition Updates, as they come 3 times a day.

For other Software Updates, I am not sure when someone is supposed to use ADR and when to use just regular deployment process(select Updates, create SUG and deploy it to collection)

If ADR is easy then why not always use it ?

any insights on that will be very much appreciated.

--When any software update deployment deadline is reached, install all other software update deployments with deadline coming within a specified period of time

--Period of time for which all pending deployments with deadline in this time will also be installed

--Enable installation of software updates in "All deployments" maintenance window when "Software Update" maintenance window is available

Software Updates Classification.

When Selecting Software Updates classification, based on what elements should I select one type of an update and not the other.
I have seen some people select Security ,Critical, update Rollups, Definition Updates if they are using Windows Defender as their only antivirus.

If I select them all, then other than disk space that will be taken, is there any inconvenience ?

OS: Windows 10 version 1903

Issue: Windows 10 updates are stuck in Software Center?

Solution: I emptied the download folder contents via C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
Then I removed and re-installed the SCCM client via the SCCM console.
Afterwards, I executed Windows Update and the device was restarted.

I hand plan to clear the ccmcache next, but the issue was resolved.

What else should I have done to resolve the problem with Windows 10 updates not passing 0% in Software Center?

Map Active Directory OUs to SCCM collection Folders.

in SCCM under Device Collection, I would like to create Folders with the same name  and structure as Active Directory OUs.
I wonder if there is an automated way to do that, instead of doing it manually by creating each folder ?

any help will be very much appreciated .

How to revert Expired Updates back to Non Expired.

In WSUS,  I have selected software updates and declined them. Now in WSUS they Show as Expired. I would like to roll back so that the will not show as expired in SCCM.

I wonder if I Approve the declined updates will hep revert them to non expired ?

I also would like to know when you Run Synchronize Software Updates from SCCM, will this Synchronize with your WSUS server, or with Microsoft Update Server, assuming your WSUS server does not have another upstream update server.

SCCM collections filtering.

I would like to know how to do filtering in SCCM collections. for instance if we have a device collection of windows servers that we need to deploy an application to, and we need to have the Application deployed only if some hardware criteria are met on the target server. for instance CPU should be Intel  , physical Memory equals or greater than 20 GB, free disk space equals or greater that 50 GB.

I have heard about collection variables, but I am not sure if it applies to this case.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

How to Deploy a Software Update to a Computer instead of a Collection.

I would like to know if there is a way in SCCM to deploy an update directly to a computer instead of a collection.

In our environment , we have 3rd Party Patch Management, that will be replaced by SCCM for Budget reason.
with 3rd part product, the Analyst will select the Updates relevant to a specific computer and deploy the updates and select "Restart" the computer after Updates are done installing, even if they do not require restart..
So everything is manual as we have an Analyst who works out of business hours.

In SCCM, I can not find something similar to that...it seems like the Analyst will have to create a collection for every single computer (Since each computer maintenance window has different time) and deploy the updates, and if the Update does not require the reboot, then the computer will not be rebooted...which is not what the IT Dept policy says....
At work, they require Reboot of every computer after it is updated , even when it does not have any update Required, Analyst should reboot the computer.

How can I shape up this task , so that it can be the same as the task done with 3rd Party product.

Thank you
