Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of web content in search engines using an understanding of search engines' processes and algorithms. Also known as "natural" or "organic" search, it is distinct from paid web advertising. Performance is typically measured by testing the appearance of a website for targeted search terms, and more specifically, ranked positions in search for important keywords. Techniques focus on content optimization, technical optimization and link building.

Hi,
This question is getting asked a lot from me lately and I am using my common sense to answer it, but need other opinions please.
Basically a company might have a large company name like:
http://averylargecompanynamethatisverylong.com
They may also have registered
http://asmallname.com
http://asmallnametoo.com

Now my question is more targeting to SEO.  Which domain should have their website hosted at?  Where should their emails be (as you don't want people to have to remember a really long email)

So my question is, if you have many domains for your company, which is the best one for hosting the website, and obviously the site with the smaller domain name would be best for email promoting so should you host the site at the best keyword, long domain, the have a web forwarder for all other domains, and then simply set up email hosting for the smaller domain.

I am asking from a SEO and marketing point of view.

I think I know the answer, but I need a discussion to be sure.

Hi Folks,

It seems some changes to my site have shocked the search engines:  www.recoveryaudio.org  Traffic today is down by probably 70%.

Last night a new Divi child theme was installed.  A few weeks ago I switched to a secure (https) server, and also added Clouldflare CDN as well as Ezoic, which is a CDN ad proxy server.

I have read that switching from http to https can affect SEO (and i suspect there could be an issue with internal linking), and I suspect the page HTML code has changed significantly as well.

I'm seeking some guidance to identify obvious problems, and/or possibly hiring someone for guidance or "fixing" whatever issues may be going on.

Thanks!!

I am using https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/seo-spider/ to check the website SEO and to crawl the site, but I get a few errors even though webmaster tools show no errors!

I am using Cloud Flare, on the site, but I have put this into development mode until the below is resolved. All pages should be HTTPS which all are, but I get te below errors on a few pages using this software.

Crawler Errors:

1.      Error 301 http://www.alexjenkins.tech/ - This is redirecting to https, but it should show 200 code
2.      Error 301 http://www.alexjenkins.tech/contact - This is redirecting to https, but it should show 200 code
3.      I can still see the 500 error code from some of the blog pages as you will see if you run the above software, you might use a different software that might help you more, but the results are strange.

4.      I don’t know where this is coming from at all https://www.alexjenkins.tech/blog/wwww.alexjenkins.tech again showing in the software

Any advance would be welcome.

https://www.google.com/#tbs=dur:m&tbm=vid&q=these+are+not+videos+-youtube.com

I took youtube.com out of search because youtube.com results are always videos

first result (for me)
FRONTLINE: teacher center: teacher guides by film: are we safer? | PBS
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/teach/are-we-safer/

there is no 12 minute 22 second video

large companies trick google AND ME that there is a video on the page

I am looking for videos longer than 4 minutes
youtube.com has a search where video is longer than 20 minutes (which is longer than 4 minutes) but too few results

1. How does company trick google? Or why does google think that a video is on that page?

2. How can I find MANY (few are longer than 20 minutes) videos longer than 4 minutes?

I heard Google only looks at title, h1, & h2 tags; of course no one knows for sure because Google doesn't allow those secrets out.  Once upon a time meta tags were used by crawlers (descriptions & word searches), however, I heard that is not the case anymore.  Do you know what is true and what isn't concerning this subject?  Does it pay to use meta tags for the search engines?

What is the best SEO Web Analytics tool/program for analyzing your company's website compared to your competitors? I have spent the entire day today trying out various ones. What I need is:
1) It needs to show the visibility of our company compared to competitors we are able to enter (up to 5)
2) It needs to show variance (e.g. Jan-present)
3) I need to be able to enter key search words in
4) I need to be able to see a graph comparing us against our competitors
5) I would also love to have Visits, Page views, Bounce Rate

Kindest Regards,
Tina

I seem to have "sitemap=..." entries in 2 places:  In robots.txt, and in htaccess (which does a url rewrite on its url)
Can anyone explain what the difference is between putting a sitemap entry in htaccess vs robots.txt ?

I got one requirement which not allowed to use Google Analytics for web tracking analysis. Instead, my client wishes to have an CMS which keep track of some web traffic data, such as bounce rate, etc.

My question is how do I track the bounce rate in my database? What information should I save into database?

I need some insights so that I can understand it, thank you.

I'm using Magento, and some of the plugins have styles built into the PHP (drawn from configuration) but its having the result of emitting <style> elements in the middle of the document, albeit well-formed.
These are failing the WC3 validator with :
document type does not allow element "style" here
Is this going to affect SEO in anyway?

Morning All,

In an attempt to make my homepage rank for the keyword "AA Speakers", almost every post on my website contains a link back to my homepage with "AA Speakers".  Totally duplicated content, I understand, but if you look at an example post (of which i have over 6000), you can see that the content is really the recording and whatever comments visitors make (e.g., http://www.recoveryaudio.org/aa-speaker-tapes/tom-i-steps-12-primm-nv-2007-12-07.

Would a few thousand instances of posts linking the focus keyword back to my homepage be considered spammy?

By the way, I might be interested in hiring someone in helping me make modifications to the site in order to capture the #1 ranking for AA Speakers (currently #3).  It already holds over 150 #1 keyword rankings, but I can't seem to get the most valuable keyword above #3 (and this site is far superior to #1 & 2 in terms of usability and content)

I have a page that had a reference to "Adira glanz" on it. I removed this as well as an associated PDF file. THen I went into Google WEbmaster Tools and temporarily removed the page.

A month later the page is back in the index - even though the content is non-existent.

How can I permanently remove a reference in the google index if the page no longer exists?

page is http://ahavasshalom.org/shabbos-newsletter-parshas-ki-savo-5774/
the website is WordPress and I have full control over it.

I already removed it from BING

Thank you.

Hi, I thought I was doing this correctly, but I'm seeing no results in Google Analytics.

I have a Trustpilot review widget on my home page. I want to know if people are clicking on it. My understanding is, you create the trigger to fire when someone clicks on the element with class .trust-pilot, then you add an event that contains that trigger.

This is what I created in Google Tag Manager:

trigger
tag configuration
Hopefully that's enough information for someone to advise me. Let me know if you need more. Thanks. (I do have google tag manager set up on the home page, magickitchen dot com. ).

In a Joomla module I am trying to not show some Adsense ads when the screen resolution is below 350px.  Here is the code I have tried:

<style type="text/css">
.responsive_right_1 { display:inline-block; width: 320px; height: 100px; }
@media (max-width: 350px) { .responsive_right_1  { display: none; } }
@media (min-width: 500px) { .responsive_right_1  { width: 320px; height: 100px; } }
@media (min-width: 900px) { .responsive_right_1  { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }
</style>
<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
<!-- responsive_right_1 -->
<ins class="adsbygoogle responsive_right_1"
     style="display:inline-block"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
     data-ad-slot="xxxxxxxxxxx"
     data-ad-format="auto"></ins>
<script>
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
</script>

Open in new window

However, the ads still appear when the screen resolution is set to 350px or lower.
