I m connecting from a Windows 10 machine to a Windows 2016 server running on VMware Esxi 5.5 via RDP.
Some applications (not all) show terribly small fonts and do not resize.
Where should, I look at to correct? An rdp to windows 10 has no issues.

Please advise.

I hope someone can help me with this issue. I will try explain as best I can.

I have a client that has a Server 2012 R2 used as a Remote desktop server. Clients can connect ok but when I open the RD License Diagnoser an error is reported that the License server is not available. However the server continues to work as expected.

The full description of the error is as follows;

'License server <Servername> is not available. This could be caused by network connectivity problems, the Remote Desktop Licensing service is stopped on the license server, or RD Licensing is no longer installed on the computer.'

There is no network connectivity problems. The 'Remote Desktop Licensing' service is running ok. Also the RD Licensing role is installed.

Please can anyone advise how I can resolve this or point me in the right direction to diagnose this issue.
I have included a screen shot of the error.

Many thanks,
I'm going to be giving a domain controller a new IP address.  what else do I need to change IP wise on the DC apart from the NIC Ip
I create a new file server to move users home folders.
The share folder name is Users$, I add with following permissions:
Domain Users - Traverse folder, List Folder, Create Folders in 'This Folder Only'.
Creator Owner - Full Control in Subfolders and file only.
System - Full Control in This folder, subfolders, and files.
Domain Admins - Full Control in This folder, subfolders, and files.
But I got this error when AD try to create the user home folder: The shared folder already exists. Because the folder is at the root of the file share, you must verify that the user has the appropriate permissions to manage the contents of the folder.
I tested also given to the Domain Users full access of the folder and I got the same error.
Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this issue.
I need malware protection for an older Windows Server:

The user has an older Windows Server:
Windows Server Standard FE, Service Pack 2  Copyright 2007

Is this a Small Business Server 2008?

What can I use for Virus, Malware, and Ransomware protection?

I have a license for Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection, but I can't locate a version of Malwarebytes that supports this system.

This server will be migrated soon.  I need to protect it for a while.
I have a 2012 Server that Hosts HYPER V's. The host is loosing HD space rapidly. I keep the temp files clean daily. Is there a program that can monitor the server and tell me what file or folder grows the most in a given period of time?
i have a server image backup. i need to restore it to a drive so i can get a vhd of the drive. do i need to restore the backup with the same version of server that is backed up?
In my shop we have several Solaris bash shell scripts that help with database procedures/maintenance.  One of the things that we rely on, is the condition on a particular box, whether the database server software or client software is installed.  Via the script what would be a good way to determine whether I have a server or client installed on a particular Solaris box?
I have a windows server 2016 which we need to monitor the following

Memory usage
(and possibly MSMQ / Rabbit Q message size)
(and possibly biggest resource consuming apps)

I would like to be able to log at N min intervals and report to a cloud/ my own external server
I would imagine an agent needs to be installed on the server, and then a collector on another server

Are there any cheap/free options available for this

I was thinking PowerBI or something similar?

What options do I have?

I would potentially need it on about 6 servers so it gets expensive with a paid solution.

I am trying to get a powershell script to get information from a list of servers about a particular KB installed.

I want to export the information to a CSV format.

Server 2016 boot loop
I get a bad_system-config_info BSOD, and I cannot seem to bypass this.

The error occured after installing .net framework 4.7.2.

The f8 menu does not help, all options result in the same bsod.

Does anyone have any suggestion what to do to get the system back and running?
A bit off topic but completely relevant:
I have a client with a pair of 4-year-old Dell tower servers with Microsoft Volume Licensing copies of Server Standard 2012R2 and the servers have Dell’s better support, so called Pro Support Plus. Dell has recently changed the terms of their support agreement and now they refuse to support any system tht doesn’t have OEM server software installed, with the OEM sticker on the box. Exchange 2013 is now out of mainstream support as of April 2018 and as I said, Dell now refuses to support these systems and I decided it made more sense to just migrate to Exchange 2016 rather than pay retail per hour rates or fighting Dell’s legal department.

I’d be interested in talking with anyone who thinks they could help me get Dell to reinstate the 5-year support agreement that we aid so much for, but that’s not directly relevant here. Meanwhile, Microsoft enterprise support won’t support any product that is out of mainstreams support without paying another $500 per incident fee. But they’d support 2016 under the existing contract.

So, rightly or wrongly, I decided to install Exchange 2016 on a Hyper-V guest and then turn off the 2013 exchange server. If this was a seriously dumb move, I will walk away from the exchange 2016 and try something different.

Which brings me to the technical question(s): how simple is this to do while the 2013 server is in production? The Server 2012R2 Standard host only has only one guest on it but the license …
Hi All

We are currently on local profiles and have a terminal server for users to login to

Which is better roaming or local?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

In which situation should each be used?

Do you still need antivirus if you go for roaming profiles?

I would like to know the experts preferences and why they prefer one over the other?
The user has a Brother QL-570 label printer.  It only has a USB Interface and is no longer being supported by Brother. It prints very well.
The user wanted to be able to print to it from 2 computers.  I originally set it up to be shared on the Windows 10 Pro host, but then the sharing stopped working.

I chose a fast solution:
I connected an Apple Airport Express, gave the Airport Express a static IP, and used the print sharing/print server function built into the Airport Express.  (It was a used AE that I had on hand)

Labels can be printed from both computers, and I don't have to spend the time trying to figure out why Windows 10 sharing isn't working.
The only problem is that the QL-570 cannot print multiple copies of a label.  Whatever number is entered, it only prints 1 copy.  The user can repeat the printing process as many times as they like, the labels print, but only one at a time.

I downloaded and reinstalled the Brother driver.  The latest version available was created in 2014.    I also downloaded and installed Brother's label printing software - P-Touch Editor 5.2
After installing the two downloads, the printer still only prints 1 label at a time.

The user doesn't want to buy a new label printer.

What might be preventing multiple labels from being printed?  The driver or the Apple print server.
Is there an alternative inexpensive print server that could be used?   I don't mind purchasing a previously owned print server from eBay.

I am trying to set my default browser on our remote desktops (server 2016 farm) to Firefox.

I have followed the KB article of adding to a GPO and creating a Appossoc.xml to be used  Stored the file on the file server in a folder accessible to everyone.

Issue is it does not apply and nothing changes on the user side.

Am I missing something, any ideas?

I'm Migrating data from 1 domain controller/file server to another domain controller/file server they are both on totally separate domains

I've disabled DHCP on the new infrastructure, Both network addresses are also different. 192.168.0/24 &

My question is will there be any issues having both the domain controllers on the same network while I do the migration?  I don't think it should be a problem, just need some clarification

I currently have four locations connected over an MPLS.  I recently replaced both DCs a the corporate office with two 2019 servers.  Since the change computers at each location are no longer able to see any other workstations/servers on the network.  I have a mix of WIN7 and 10 workstations.  If this is related to disabling SMB1 is there a workaround to emulate the same sort of browsing functionality?
Hi techs,

I have a Windows Server 2012R2 system which is stuck in OOBE, and as such, is not receiving updates automatically.
I've been able to manually install windows updates using the steps in this article which allowed me to get 15 updates installed via Powershell, but the GUI method still fails.

The server was built in 2017, had WSUS offline patches applied to it, but hasn't been patching since

I've tried:
- sfc /scannow
- dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:z:\winsxs /limitaccess (to use another functioning windows system as the source)
- sysprep /oobe /reboot to get it out of sysprep
- manually update Windows Updates components (based on )
- registry changes to get it out of OOBE
HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\
IsOOBEInProgress change to 0 from 1

- reset the Windows Update components by stopping BITS, Crypographic, Winodws update services and renaming c:\windows\softwaredistribution to .old
- cleared the contents of the c:\windows\system32\catroot2 folder
- waited 5 days for the progress bar to progress
- confirmed server is not misconfigured to use WSUS
- reset the proxy settings using netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie
- reset the WindowsUpdate.log file to be able to get some fresh data, source below:

The client needs AntiVirus protection for Windows Server Standard FE  2007 - Service Pack 2
They also have Server 2000 (Which has old software on it, and can't be upgraded right away)

I prefer using TrendMicro.  Is there another I can use?

I will upgrade to a newer version of Windows eventually.

We have Windows Server 2019 installed on a latest generation Dell Optiplex.  (We needed server OS capabilities without the server hardware.)

The machine has a SSD on SATA0 and HDD on SATA1.  They are both installed at the factory by Dell.  The SSD has the OS and HDD has the data storage.  No RAID.  Drives connected to board.

The installation completes without an issue.  We double check the BIOS and drivers from the Dell website and update.  The machine is setup and placed into service without issue.

After a few days, we find that the HDD is not showing up in Windows nor Disk Management.  We are of course shocked and reboot into BIOS.  The drive is showing fine.  We have enabled to report SMART error reporting.  It physically seems to be fine (not hot, making noise, et cetera).

We return to Windows Server 2019 OS and the drive is back and working like nothing happened?

This has now happened twice -- the drive disappears out of the blue in the OS and a reboot makes it reappear.

I'd be more than happy to replace the drive, but is it the drive?  OS?  Board?  SATA Port?  Other?
My small business is getting a Dell Poweredge T440 and we were advised to use Raid 1 for the OS and Raid 5 for the other drives.

We are going to get 8, 3.5 inch slots for HDs. OS will use 2 drives and Raid 1. Then we want 4 drives to be set up with Raid 5.

Does this give us 4 drives and 2 "hot spares"?
I have a number of directories/files on my Linux Server that seem to be not needed.

Can you tell me what these files are for and if they can be erased?

  100M: /opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  102M: /old/old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/old/old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive

It seems to be that instead of replacing files in an "old" directory, it creates a new directory underneath the old one.  (e.g. /old/old/old).

My client has a free cloudflare account. A new developer is having difficulty with the website, and wants to adjust cloudflare's settings to try to get it to work better. But the developer is afraid that they might not succeed and will not be able to return the settings to the current values.

Is there a way to save and restore these settings?
If not, is there a way to get a printout or some type of copy of the settings so that someone could go through this list and change the settings to these values?

THank you.
What application or what is the best way to image a windows server that is RAID5 ?
One of our clients is experiencing issues with their Windows server.  Their previous IT installed the Server Essentials Role, along with almost every role available (Hyper-V, RDS, Fax server, etc.).  I have removed the Server Essentials Role successfully, (They have a 2012 R2 Standard license).  I need to remove the excess roles and get the machine down to only being a domain controller, DNS server, and DHCP server.  When I try to remove any of the other installed roles it fails completing the operation after the reboot and undoes the changes.  I have run the DISM utility multiple times and it keeps indicating it fixed corruption in the component store, but after a reboot and running the /scanhealth parameter, it still discovers more corruption (have tried this cycle 4 times).

Advice on where to go, or how to troubleshoot is greatly appreciated
