A server is a computer program or a machine that waits for requests from other machines or software (clients) and responds to them. This architecture is called the client–server model. The clients may run on the same computer or may connect to the server over a network. The purpose of a server is to share data or hardware and software resources among clients. Typical computing servers are database servers, file servers, mail servers, print servers, web servers, game servers, and application servers.

I currently have four locations connected over an MPLS.  I recently replaced both DCs a the corporate office with two 2019 servers.  Since the change computers at each location are no longer able to see any other workstations/servers on the network.  I have a mix of WIN7 and 10 workstations.  If this is related to disabling SMB1 is there a workaround to emulate the same sort of browsing functionality?

Acronis Global Cyber Summit 2019 in Miami
Acronis Global Cyber Summit 2019 in Miami

The Acronis Global Cyber Summit 2019 will be held at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Resort on October 13–16, 2019, and it promises to be the must-attend event for IT infrastructure managers, CIOs, service providers, value-added resellers, ISVs, and developers.

We have Windows Server 2019 installed on a latest generation Dell Optiplex.  (We needed server OS capabilities without the server hardware.)

The machine has a SSD on SATA0 and HDD on SATA1.  They are both installed at the factory by Dell.  The SSD has the OS and HDD has the data storage.  No RAID.  Drives connected to board.

The installation completes without an issue.  We double check the BIOS and drivers from the Dell website and update.  The machine is setup and placed into service without issue.

After a few days, we find that the HDD is not showing up in Windows nor Disk Management.  We are of course shocked and reboot into BIOS.  The drive is showing fine.  We have enabled to report SMART error reporting.  It physically seems to be fine (not hot, making noise, et cetera).

We return to Windows Server 2019 OS and the drive is back and working like nothing happened?

This has now happened twice -- the drive disappears out of the blue in the OS and a reboot makes it reappear.

I'd be more than happy to replace the drive, but is it the drive?  OS?  Board?  SATA Port?  Other?

My small business is getting a Dell Poweredge T440 and we were advised to use Raid 1 for the OS and Raid 5 for the other drives.

We are going to get 8, 3.5 inch slots for HDs. OS will use 2 drives and Raid 1. Then we want 4 drives to be set up with Raid 5.

Does this give us 4 drives and 2 "hot spares"?

I have a number of directories/files on my Linux Server that seem to be not needed.

Can you tell me what these files are for and if they can be erased?

  100M: /opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  100M: /old/old/old/old/opt/drweb/bases/bases.tar.gz
  102M: /old/old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/old/old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive
  102M: /old/old/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive

It seems to be that instead of replacing files in an "old" directory, it creates a new directory underneath the old one.  (e.g. /old/old/old).

Thanks.

My client has a free cloudflare account. A new developer is having difficulty with the website, and wants to adjust cloudflare's settings to try to get it to work better. But the developer is afraid that they might not succeed and will not be able to return the settings to the current values.

Is there a way to save and restore these settings?
If not, is there a way to get a printout or some type of copy of the settings so that someone could go through this list and change the settings to these values?

THank you.

One of our clients is experiencing issues with their Windows server.  Their previous IT installed the Server Essentials Role, along with almost every role available (Hyper-V, RDS, Fax server, etc.).  I have removed the Server Essentials Role successfully, (They have a 2012 R2 Standard license).  I need to remove the excess roles and get the machine down to only being a domain controller, DNS server, and DHCP server.  When I try to remove any of the other installed roles it fails completing the operation after the reboot and undoes the changes.  I have run the DISM utility multiple times and it keeps indicating it fixed corruption in the component store, but after a reboot and running the /scanhealth parameter, it still discovers more corruption (have tried this cycle 4 times).

Advice on where to go, or how to troubleshoot is greatly appreciated

This is a Windows DNS Server question.

On the windows server that has the DNS role, this server connects to a SAN as well. So basically the server has 8 nic ports. 4 are teamed for the windows environment, and the other 4 ports are used for multipath to the SAN.

So in the dns config section i go to the properties tab of the dns server. On the interface tab it shows 5 ips. The 1 that entails my windows team, and then the 4 that go to the san. I unchecked all of the SAN ips since my clients were associating this san ip to the server when looking for a logon server etc.. However when i uncheck all my san ips that goofy self test it does on the monitoring tab always says it fails.

However when i put in this server to my laptops static dns list it seems to work fine for web, browsing pc names on the network. I even flushed all the caches locally and on the server to make sure.

Does it matter if the monitor tab fails? If i put all my san ips back in under interfaces it passes, but then the server advertises these address on my network as a way to get to it which is wrong obviously. I am content with not worrying about the monitoring tab if this is normal for people who have had a server running dns server which also connected to a san.

Any comments or suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Hi

I have two questions regarding our DHCP server.

We have a DC running DHCP  on a server that we will shut down (SERVER 1), and therefore we need to move the DHCP service to another server (SERVER 2), can I just deactivate it on the first server (SERVER 1), and then active it on the other server (SERVER 2)?
Even if I can I have a problem because our active DHCP is configured on all our routers at out ISP who connect our offices as DHCP relay with IP-address x.x.x.x, and therefore I come to my second question, can I after shutting down the old DC (SERVER 1), configure the new DC (SERVER 2) with that old IP address that (SERVER1) had, will that work?

My server crashed yesterday. My drives and green not red lights no errors. I saw a bunch of errors regarding dns. DHCP gpos etc and users were not able to surf the web. I bunch the server and it came back to the login page but when I press control alt delete nothing happens. Move the physical mouse cursor doesn’t move. Rebooted pressed F8 and selected last known good configuration and issue persists. It’s not the keyboard and mouse because I’m able to select options prior to getting into the login page. Any ideas what’s going on and how to get into the OS

I need to add more space to one of our new customers pre existing server.
Its really a regular pc that is running server software.

the mainboard is a Gigabyte z77x-ud5h. i7-2600k processor.

right now they have 2 256 GB SSD. and they have them setup for raid 1 using intel rapid storage technology version 11.5.4.1001.

We need to add more space but I am not familiar with this kind of raid. I'm used to HP ProLiant servers and dell. that have their own software.

We are going to put in 2 500 GB DHH to make more space but I'm not sure how if this software support 2 separate arrays.
that way I don't have to reinstall the OS>

When I go into intel RST  there is no option to add anything. I don't have the new drives hooked up yet. I was just checking where to add or if you can add more than one array.

Need Server and operating system for Visual Studio 2012 Project.

6 local users and 3 remote users. With Windows 10 on all machines

Something that is easy to set up. Have been using Windows XP which now is outdated.

In the past I have used Microsoft 2008 server and it was too complicated for employees...

This is a brand new Server 2019 Standard Server. I use USB hard drives for Backup. Every time I put a disk in it shows up as being Offline and the information button yields "The disk is offline because of policy set by an administrator" and I have to jerk around with diskpart to get it online.

Is this yet another boneheaded move by M$ to have USB drives come in offline? I don't want to do this every time I switch USB hard drives. What is the permanent fix and why in the world would M$ make this the default????

One of the other admins here was tasked with decommissioning our on-prem DAG and Exchange 2010 servers after moving to O365. Unfortunately, he just uninstalled the Exchange server software on the servers and turned them off. This left quite a mess with the Multiple DAGs and Databases.

I'm trying to clean this up so that I can manage exchange properties in our Azure AD.

Can anyone gives me an idea on how to fix this mess? Below is the status of our databases.

Hi Experts ~
I'm looking for guidance on best practices when working with a database server, and a web server.
We have both and all our sites are hosted on the web server.
The work is all done on the d/b server and for many sites, .csv files are created from a SQL query.

My question:
Outside of reducing d/b server traffic - Is there any performance benefit on the site to storing those resulting .csv files on the web server vs. the d/b server?

Thanks

Hi,
What to adjust on server, as port 993 is not responding, like

182.173.77.220 is responding on port 80 (http).

182.173.77.220 isn't responding on port 993 (imaps).
while I already opened TCP & UDP Inbound & Outbound Firewall rules on 993 port.

We're a team of 3 developers and we use TFS for our source control.

1. This is how the previous developer moved code to QA and Prod:
     a. He published code locally
     b. He used BeyondCompare to compare the files to the folder on the QA or Prod server
     c. He copied the Bin folder or whatever files changed to QA or Prod servers

We're looking into Build Servers. Someone mentioned Jenkins or

Questions:
1. How does Jenkins or TeamCity work with TFS? We can still use TFS, correct?
2. We have a Dev server, QA server and Prod. Suppose I make a change to my code. Does this change automatically get uploaded to the Dev server when I check into TFS?
3. What if all 3 of us make changes to the project and check in the code. How does the merge happen? do we still need to merge in TFS, check in and then Jenkins/TeamCity takes over of moving code?

4. This is how our TFS branches are setup --> we each have our own branch (3 branches). We check in to our own branch. Then we merge into our DEV branch. We eventually use the DEV branch to publish code for Production.
  a. If we use a Build Server, how can we ensure the DEV branch is not messed up and has clean code for Prod?
  b. Do we need a "pre-DEV" branch ---> Jenkins/TeamCity builds to "Pre-DEV" and then I'll manaully merge into "DEV" branch and have a solid code base for Prod?

I need to wrap my head around this and I don't quite understand how a Build Server will work with TFS and our current process.

How can we use the secondary Citrix NetScaler Server, in an H.A. pair to safely test out new configurations before the same changes are propagated to the other NetScaler?

We have 2 x version 12.0 Citrix NetScaler Servers in our environment.  They both are setup for auto-sync and propagation by default; but according to websites:

- https://docs.citrix.com/zh-cn/netscaler/11/system/high-availability-introduction/configuring-command-propagation-high-availability.html

There are commands to that can be executed to turn the HA Sync and HA Propagation off and then back on later.  At my company we would like to test out a 2 factor authentication option (during a planned maintenance window) and see how that works before it is available for all of the users.  I am thinking of doing the following:

1.  Enable the 2 factor authentication settings on the Authentication server.
       a.  Whatever it may be, that is a separate topic from this question.

2.  Then after the Authentication server is ready, disable auto-sync and auto-propagation on the NetScaler HA-Pair.

3.  Then configure the secondary NetScaler to work with the 2nd factor Authentication server.
        a.  Then plan a maintenance window to temporarily make the secondary NetScaler Server into the new primary NetScaler Server.
        b.  When I fail over the primary server, the secondary server will then become the new 'primary' server …

Hi, I have a WD Sentinel dx4000 sunning server 2012R2.  Actually my client does.  Problem is he forgot the password.  I was going to use my password reset CD, but the problem is, there is no display port on this sucker so I can't see whats going on at boot up.

Question, is there a way to connect a display to this thing?  Or is there another way to reset the password on it?

Thanks a ton.
