Time Machine couldn't complete backup to "[Name] Time Machine"

With 2 Macs (Mojave), I am unable to continue Time Machine backups. I have to erase drive to continue.

Seems in the past with earlier OSX versions I could rely on Time Machine to delete older files and continue with backup.

Why not now? Can I automate the erase/restart backup procedures?

Hello,

I want to to know how "windows system center operation manager" and "Backup Exec" works with doubled data.
For example I want to backup disk C, D, E and also shared data - lets say S:\. Now some data on disk S:\ are files shared from same server, let it be disk "D:\data\some data". When data is being backed up, do software knew that S:\ and "D:\data\some data" are the same, and just compress them in some way - something like deduplication, or any other compression - or just backing them up twice?

Same goes with SQL - with Backup Exec SQL agent we make back up of our  databases and also we back up previously made copies which are stored on some local hard drive (which might be the same).

Hi Experts,

I've been using Mozy for cloud based backup (MS Windows client) for many years.
It is being phased out, and replaced by Carbonite.

I've just finished an initial Carbonite backup and it's telling me: "Your files are safely backed up".
But a manual check shows that many files are not backed up!
This issue is discussed here.

I do not want to persevere with trying to cajoling Carbonite into backing up all my files.

I'm looking for recommendations for alternatives.
Reliability and ease of use take precedence over cost.

Regards,
Leigh

My client has a free cloudflare account. A new developer is having difficulty with the website, and wants to adjust cloudflare's settings to try to get it to work better. But the developer is afraid that they might not succeed and will not be able to return the settings to the current values.

Is there a way to save and restore these settings?
If not, is there a way to get a printout or some type of copy of the settings so that someone could go through this list and change the settings to these values?

THank you.

I had to rebuild my Replicating server due corrupt windows files causing me not to be able to upgrade to the new 9.5.4 version.

After, rebuilding the server, reinstalling the Veeam Backup & Replicating software and importing the backed up config files, I'm getting an error.

When I try to re-scan the local host I'm getting a [esxi-Server.domain.local] Disks and volumes discovery failed Error: The remote name counld not be resolved: 'esxi-Server.domain.local'  Host discovery failed.

Can anyone help me with this?

We have IBM 9111 520 on AIX 5.3 and planning to replace the existing SCSI 3581 auto loader with the TS3100 3573-L2U SCSI.
I currently using backup script with AIX command tapeutil (mount & unmount) & backup.
I wish to know if the same script will work on the T3100 3573?

the script as follows:
/usr/bin/tapeutil -f /dev/rmt1 mount ${2}
/usr/sbin/chdev -l rmt1 -a block_size=0
/bin/find acu opt etc usr var/spool/ cron/crontabs/root scripts home `find * -prune -type l` data  | /usr/sbin/backup -ivqf /dev/rmt1 -b100
/usr/bin/tapeutil -f /dev/rmt1 unmount ${2}

Best solution to sync HUGE QTY of files across slow WAN?

Hello creative experts!

I have 1.7 million files (4 TB) in one of our remote offices.

We presently use Vice-Versa to replicate the remote office data to headquarters.

Vice-versa is installed on a server here in HQ.

The initial "comparing source vs. destination" part of the run takes 21 hours over our 50 mbps wan connection.

The actual file copy of changed files typically takes about 3 hours.

I'm guessing it's soooo slow because it's having a chatty conversation across a slow WAN connection to determine which files got added and deleted.  [This is a total guess as I don't know how the software is written]

What's the best solution?

Is there a solution that perhaps has agent software running on the other side such that each side determines local changes and THEN compares notes?

Is there a solution that works something like OneDrive?  (For example: there's no day long process evaluating local vs cloud before figuring out what to sync.  I presume if you delete a local folder, the agent gives the path of what to delete to the cloud and it's deleted.  Likewise, if a file gets added locally, just that file gets uploaded).

As I type this: I wonder if there's a microsoft solution which could leverage our E3 Office 365 subscription for our 400 users?

We started getting quotes for cloud backup and it was surprisingly expensive: maybe $90,000 per year for 8TB  - that's super approximate but …

User has two locations where they work on their photo library using Adobe LightRoom on Mac.  They are 8 months at first location, then 4 months at the second for the summer.

Can I have a Synology NAS at each location to synchronize their work?

Internet connection in NYC is FIOS, which currently is 600+ mbps using Speedtest both Download and Upload
Internet connection in MA (Massachusetts) is Xfinity which measures 30 Download and 6 Upload

They have about 5 TB of photos on a RAID directly attached to their computer.
I can use software to sync the RAID files to and from the Synology

I will do the initial synchronization of  the Synology units in NYC, and have them bring one to MA

Once in MA
User adds 1 to 2 GB of photos every few days, which will be synchronized to the NAS

At the end of the 4 months, when the user returns to NYC, I would like their photo library and LightRoom catalogs to be a mirror of what they were working on in MA, and ready to use.

Is this a good method?
Any steps missing?

Thanks

I have Dell PC running windows 10. I use the windows back up and restore software for backing up on external drive. But this has not been upgraded since Windows 7.

Now I have updated Windows 10 I can no long get the back up to work. I need to find a different way now that Microsoft do not provide technical support on this.  Any ideas please for continuing to be able to back up on the external drive?

Thanks

I have a 1TB USB external disk drive connected to my Windows Server 2016 and backing up data to it.
Because it is only 1TB in size, I need a larger capacity USB external drive for backups.

Note:  I am using Acronis Backup 12.5.

I purchased a Western Digital 6TB USB external disk drive, formatted as NTFS (Allocation unit size:  4096 bytes)

When I plug the 6TB USB external disk drive into the Server, the drive is not recognized by the Server.

What could be the problem?

Hi

We are looking at replacing our tape drive with cloud backup.  Having looked at Azure backup it looks very limited to what i can backup.  Running DPM looks like it caches the backup locally before sending to azure - which is  problem.
We use veeam on prem - i see they offer cloud connect - any good?
Any other cloud providers out there that simply copies the file up and restores them back?

Thanks

Windows Server 2012 R2 server has an attached USB 3.0 4 TB drive attached and is dedicated for backups (Formatted in Windows backup just for backups). When Running a scheduled Windows Server backup the backup will stop at random times in the middle of the backup and dismount the disk. The backup will end up failing saying that it can't find the disk and the disk will be offline. The only way to get the disk to come back online is to unplug the backup and re-plug it back in. A reboot of the server will not even bring the disk back online.

When the disk is dismounted, the logs in Windows throw the following errors
Event ID: 14 - Volsnap - The shadow copies of volume \\?...8ee-4778-bc2f-cb437fbd30a3} were aborted because of an IO failure on volume \\?...8ee-4778-bc2f-cb437fbd30a3}.
Event ID: 157 - Disk - Disk 2 has been surprise removed.
Event ID: 153 - The IO operation at logical block address 0xc703168 for Disk 2 (PDO name: \Device\000001a8) was retried.
Event ID: 3 - FilterManager - Filter Manager failed to attach to volume '\Device\HarddiskVolume350'.  This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot.  The final status was 0xC03A001C.
Event ID: 51- An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\DR148 during a paging operation.

It seems the disk is only ejected when the scheduled backup is running. I can intermittently run a one time backup and it will be successful.

Things I have done already
1. Made sure Windows Updates were installed and up to…

In Win 7 & Win 2008 R2, I used to see/use the  Bare Metal backup which I
can restore everything in the event the entire OS or filesystem got corrupted.

Where can I find it in Win10 (or Win2016) : can't seem to locate it:
any screen shots will be appreciated.

if the feature is deprecated (think I saw somewhere that start Win10 Ver1709,
it'll be deprecated??) appreciated any portable freeware that
could do bare metal backups for Win10.

I will admit that I'm a noob when it comes to OneDrive.  I have experience with Carbonite and some with other cloud-based backup systems but not with OneDrive.
I recently decided that we should use OneDrive as an offsite backup method and have been learning ... more than I'd intended to tell the truth.
In reading about OneDrive, I see that the focus is on Microsoft and not on THIS computer - because they talk about "downloading" OneDrive while I've been thinking about "uploading" TO OneDrive.
Then I learned that the username\Documents folder would be moved into the OneDrive folder.  Don't worry if I got that slightly wrong .. it won't matter.
For now, I have NO intention of sharing files so all that is just fluff.

I've thought about some approaches for the backup objective that would fit into the computer's context.  I did read something about NOT moving Documents by making it local to the computer but the controls suggested within the OneDrive controls weren't even there.  So that was a pass.
I also read that things would be automagically moved into Documents (and, of course, OneDrive) and now after a few short days I see folders there where I would have never expected them to be!!  This concerns me greatly.

I've thought of some things that could be done:
1) Don't use the Documents folder for anything and just let it move.  Yet, I'm not sure "they" will let me do this and have it stick.  I'm concerned that important things will end up there anyway.
2) I've …

I have a client that we provide remote backup to. The software's backup schedule could run 2 different ways, either the backup software's internal scheduler (which i think relies on it running in the task tray), or it generates a task in the task scheduler after setting up or modifying its backup job. Their pc is Windows 7, and the task scheduler is corrupt due to a Win10 upgrade then rollback to Win7, and the internal scheduler is unreliable. I have tried the common "tasks fix" tool (searched on google) but it didn't work.
I think instead of hacking away at the built in task scheduler I may save time and effort just replacing it, maybe something that runs as a service so It doesn't have to be manually ran after logging in or closed out easily?
Just want a free trusted light-weight alternative task scheduler that I can tell it to execute a batch file every night at 11:00PM.

Do files on a windows/ntfs drive leave any clues on the last time they were backed up and if so what particular attribute would that be - regardless of backup software & solution in operation.

I have a SQL backup plan for a database and I have set the plan to trash (I think) backups older than 2 days.  This is not happeining.  I had the NAS that stores the backups get filled up this morning.  There were 7 backups in their for the past 7 days, older than 2 days.  Need to find out what I'm doing wrong that it won't purge backups older than 2 days.
Here is the screenshot of backup plan if it helps.

I need to exclude the target location from Veeam backup of AIX. I escalated to Veeam support they gave me this. I am not an AIX admin I need guidance to exclude the Veeam backup target from backing up. Below is the email from Veeam Support.

************** Message from Veeam Support**********************
I'm pretty sure /mnt directory should be excluded from processing. To do this backup script should look like this:

Mode=Overwrite
LogFile=/var/log/veeam/backup.log

SNumber=0
SLabel="Configuration"
SComments="Veeam Agent for IBM AIX"
/VEEAMCFG/* /SubDirs
:
SNumber=1
SLabel="Full backup"
SComments="Veeam Agent for IBM AIX"
/* /SubDirs
/cdrom/* /Xclude
/tmp/* /Xclude
/mnt/* /Xclude
/VEEAMCFG/* /Xclude
/var/log/veeam/backup.log /Xclude
/var/log/veeam/backup.err /Xclude
Redirections =
SRC=/
DST=/a/
END
:
SNumber=2
SLabel="Log files"
SComments="Veeam Agent for IBM AIX"
/var/log/veeam/backup.err
/var/log/veeam/backup.log
:
I added the following line to first step:
/mnt/* /Xclude
This will exclude your backup location from processing completely. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this.

************** End of Veeam Support email****************

Anyone can assist me ?

Thanks

Hello, I am in the process of implementing Acronis Snap Deploy in my environment and am wondering what other experts have done for version control of their master/base images?
0
1) How do I completely uninstall/delete Acronis true image 2019 from macOS High Sierra - then reinstall  Acronis true image 2019 pointing to new drives?

2) My goal is to delete all backups from Acronis True Image and rebuild to backup to new attached/online drives.

I will settle for 1) if 2) is not feasible.
