Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.

Any recommendation for backing up my NAS ?

Should I do it directly from the NAS or from a computer that is mapped to NAS?

Which providers are recommended and have apps that I can install on the NAS?

Hi
I'm using Ultracopier to copy some data from Synology NAS to  a LaCie Porsche Design 8TB HDD  connected to USB 3 port on windows 7 PC

NAS & PC are both wired into BT Home hub 5

UltraCopier interface suggests the transfer speed  is between 8.5 upto to about 10 MB/s

Whereas this page review  suggests the Lacie HDD is capable of  192.5MB/s read and 182MB/s write

There is a USB 2.0 port on the  Synology NAS but this is only accessibly via a web interface in the past this has proved unstable for file transfer

My question is why is  UltraCopier saying 10 MB/s but LaCie HDD in theory can write @ 180 MB/s?

Hi - I have a Fujitsu ETERNUS DX100 S4 iSCSI SAN with two 10Gig Controllers.

I have two 2x Dell PowerEdge Server with 10Gig NICs in each server, this will be built as a Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V Cluster.

I want to direct connect SAN to Servers using both 10Gig NICs on the controllers to the servers - do I need a switch in the middle?

I have a Galaxy Tab, running Android 4.4.2, that is out of memory.
Thus, I bought a MicroSD card to expand its memory.

I was planning to move to some applications to the SD card to free up space.
However, whenever I try to move an app via the "Move to SD card" button, I get an error "Unable to move app."

All that I was able to find via Google is that doing a factory reset MAY correct the problem.
I'd really like to avoid doing a factory reset.

I have a Synology NAS Server with a 500gb Hard drive connected and a Nvidia shield TV box/console.
Both the devices have the PMS (Plex Media Server) installed.

What I want to do is watch IPTV through plex. Ideally I would like to have the IPTV installed on the PMS that is on my Synology NAS Server as that is on and running all the time,  so that I can watch IPTV on my android phone when out of the house.

Does anyone know where to manually find the plugin folder on the Synology NAS Server or if not on there then where the plugin folder is on the Nvidia shield TV?

Also, can anyone recommend a stable IPTV channel for plex which I can use to load the IPTV playlist m3u?

Thank you...

My client has an HP Proliant ML350G6 server. OS is on a pair of mirrored 145GB drives. Data is on a RAID 5 array of 1TB drives. The OS drives are getting really full after years of updates. These are 2.5" SAS drives. What would be the best way to get the OS on to larger drives short of a new server? Is it even possible? OS is Server 2008 R2.

I operate the HP dl 390 G9 and window server 2012.
the existing server operated as raid0 and logical drive 1. and add 4 more disk(1.2TB) as raid 5 for file sharing. now I can use HDD capacity as 2.4 TB. because 3 hdd operate as raid5 and the last one is how swap. then I can use it 2.4 TB, is it right?
and my question is after raid5 setting, I can see the alarm message "Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on Logical Drive 2~~~" then what do I do?
Just reboot the server and format the drive on Window server? or Do I start initialization? how to start it? I can found any menu relate with it

Hello All,

I am currently setting up a Dell server. I am now in the process of Deploying an OS utilizing the "Deploy OS" option in the life cycle controller and it let me select between UEFI and BIOS. I am aware that UEFI has a lot more options than BIOS, but I am not sure if it will work well in my situation and with the configurations that I have been task with. Some of the configurations that I have to perform are the following:

1) Harden the BIOS by securing it with a password

2) Configure 2 virtual disks (both configured with RAID 10) one for OS and second one for data. Both disks ending with 1.7 TB and 10 TB respectively after the RAID 10 configuration.

so with the requirements stated above, I am left with the questions below:

- if I decide to choose UEFI, can I harden UEFI with a password as I can do with BIOS?

- and if I decide to go with BIOS, will it support the size of my drives?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you!

I have a PE T320 with a PERC H310 controller.

We have a RAID 10 setup with 4 drives.  One has failed.  How would I replace based on this picture?  The pic is the back of the PE.

What is the best way to monitor for queries that run > xx seconds?  I would love to have a table / file that I can look at each morning to see if there are any issues.  I've read about event monitors but I did not see a way to restrict them to a certain time range and we have so many queries that run, I am afraid to capture ever SQL statement that runs.  I think that would blow out my storage pretty quickly.

What is the most common way to do this with DB2?

Thank you!

Jim

Lately a couple of tapes has been checked off from library.

Hello all,

I've inherited a PowerEdge T320 that utilizes a Dell PERC H310 RAID controller.

How would I go about checking the status of the RAID/drives?

if you replicate data between your primary SAN to a DR SAN, what assurances and checks need to be performed to verify the health/reliability of the link between the sites and the replication process? What risks are there with such a setup, and what best practices/monitoring need to be in place to minimise those risks? what evidence could be requested to verify these risks are well managed with best practices?

Experts,

I found some other posts for other PE's but not one for a PERC700. We cleared the Foreign Config and now the replaced drive is in a ready state. This is for the small 2 drive bay for the OS.

If I select to make it a Global Hot Spare if gives me a Big warning message that the drive is not sized to be a Spare for all configs, to RAID 5 Config which has much larger drives. If a pull the trigger for the Hot spare, will it see that it can join the RAID1 and start the copy process? or not?

Thanks

I have dell poweredge R520 with four drives 600gb each in RAID 5. One of the drive is blinking green and amber this means predictive failure. I have VMware 6.0 running on it with several VMs. To change the drive do I have to just take it out and insert the new drive with the server up and running or I have to shutdown the server and then insert the new drive?

Hi everyone.
i have the following error on a tsm backup:

09/21/2017 01:30:15 ANS1377W The client was unable to obtain a snapshot of '\\vwarbass0000002\e$'. The operation will continue without snapshot support.
09/21/2017 01:31:57 ANS1377W The client was unable to obtain a snapshot of '\\vwarbass0000002\c$'. The operation will continue without snapshot support.
09/21/2017 01:37:25 ANS1512E Scheduled event 'DIARIO_0130' failed.  Return code = 12.

Beside the vss error, the owner of the server told me that  e$ and c$ are no longer needed to be backedup.

Please how can i exclude them on the opt?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Expert

we have around 20 of ESXI servers with around 400 VMs

we need to buy VEEAM

my question

we are going to backup to disk let us say to NFS or CIFS and we need also to backup to tapes

but what type of tape library we have to buy if we don't want to use fiber

can we backup from our ESXI server using  VEEAM to tape without any other server to work as storage node or something like this

can we avoid using fiber interface and fiber switches

kindly advice

Hi Experts

I have 2 Hyper-V nodes and want to setup cluster but I don't have additional centralize storage to use as cluster shared volume.

In above scenario, what is the solution to setup CSV ? Any solution ?
requirement is to setup "Failover" hyper V cluster. If one node down, another node should be able to host VM automatically.

I don't want to enable replication as my customer wants automatic failover like in Cluster. Any solution please ?

Will Storage space direct in 2016 help to meet my requirements ? (I'm still trying to understand what is Storage space direct in 2016)

Thanks
