On one of the computers we support, the Windows Wait Cursor (AKA the spinning halo) is there all the time to the right of the mouse pointer. Is there a utility I can install that will show the name of whatever process is running that is causing the Windows Wait Cursor to appear? This is Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1 Build 7601 SP1. I have tried running Performance Monitor and Resource Monitor but am not able to see which process is associated with the current activity which is causing the Windows Wait Cursor to be displayed.

Ideally it should just display the process name next to the cursor.

Thanks,
Don

Hi Experts,
Wondering why are my programs not always listed under start/my programs?!
I was looking for a program installed there about a month ago, and was listed there under my programs as well..
Today when I was looking for it, it was nowhere to be found!!
And I had forgotten the name of it..
Luckily I had this program installed in another pc where it was still being listed..
Once I got the name, I was able to type in and it opened.
But why all this hide and seek?!

We have watchdog devices in every server room/closet every location in our company.  Every device have an IP/hostname with cname.  So I can go by the name of the room.
Issue is I still have to go to individual every IP to monitor.  Is there an easy way to consolidate into one single page with links, that doesn't require a lot of html coding.
Any advice?   Solution using Watchdog15 devices with temp, and flood probe attachments.

Hi Experts,

We recently installed office 2016 and I'm having a hard time to get simple things working just the way they always did.
for example the following
1- When selecting and right clicking on a word typed in new email, why is the copy option not avail? (see attached)
2- When selecting a file to attach, I dont immediately get to see My Computer (see second attachment).
3- When I finally get to select a folder and realize have to move up one level, that option is gone..

Wondering how can I just get back my old tools/shortcuts working properly?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Does anyone know of an on-screen ruler or measuring tool that is very customizable?

I have found several downloadable ruler apps online (which are said to be able to display lengths in pixels/centimeters/inches) but most of them are old or inaccurate or in another language.

For example I'm using a 28" 4K 3840x2160 monitor (Acer CB281HK) which is set to 150% scale. I also have an AutoHotkey (AHK) script* which enables me to capture the pixel coords of any location currently occupied by the mouse cursor. Thus, it's simple to check a particular screen location to test a ruler for accuracy.

I don't necessarily need freeware and would be willing to pay a reasonable price for some utility or app if it is accurate, can be rotated to any degree setting, can be set to always-on-top, and is adjustable.

By "adjustable", I mean to some percentage of the default. For example, some rulers return a pixel length 2/3 of actual which indicates they are not compensating for my screen being set to 150% scale. That seems easy to fix by having a scaling box to enter the 150%.

Another setting in which this would be useful is sometimes when I use Windows Media Player (WMP), I would like to have an always-on-top time indicator. So for example, I'm currently watching a video that is 32 minutes long and by mousing over the bottom of WMP, I can see a numerical indicator showing where I am in the video vs the video length (eg 20:23/32:34). But that goes away as soon as …

i want to replace a Kingston 240 GB SSD now model (240 Gb) by a bigger one - running Windows 7 - 64 bit
i bought a samsung 850 EVO 512 GB, and imaged the drive to it, using Paragon Disk Manager 15 SP5
it did the imaging fine, but i can't get the samsung to boot in the Original system - the drive is seen correct in bios, and put on top in boot priority
it returns : reboot and select proper boot device
i tried with Disk Copy, and with the imaging to VHD -  same outcome

the drive is GPT format  ( checked with disk part,) and has 3 partitions : System (100 MB), Reserved (128 MB) and Primary 465 GB

the motherboard is Asus Rampage 4 extreme 8 GB ram

We have a user that password-protect a lots of his documents.  He uses WinRar v3.61 (and latest WinRar) , WinZip v9 (and the latest) also uses the latest 7z,  In a meeting a colleague mention that the problem with these apps, though all uses AES-256 (except the old version of WinRar),  when unzipping the files, all the apps create an unprotected version of the contents on another area of the computer.  What is the exact location of these folders?

. i imaged a 240 GB kingston SSD with paragon disk manager 15 to a Samsung 500 GB drive without problems
only - on the Original system the copy does not boot -
the old one does boot from boot manager In the BIOS - not from the disk itself; the new one does not boot from either one
the weird thing is that the copy DOES boot on another system without problems

suggestions? asap plse!
the system is windows 7 -64 bit
and of course -  the SSD is on the priority list as second - first is boot manager

In a recent upgrade from win7 to win10 i found that the size of the magnifier viewing dock was too small, and there seemed to be no way to resize the dock area.  i searched and found a user on this site asking the same question, but he didn't get the answer and was told to just go full screen.  He closed the question although it was really not answered.

Well i have discovered that the dock area can be resized and full screen mode is not the solution nor necessary.  i couldn't provide the answer since his question was marked closed.

i wanted to share my findings but couldn't seem to find how to post the solution, i clicked to submit but it errored out and i lost everything i had written.

Zip or any other software
Zip up a collection of files into multiple 20mb (close enough works) parts and each individual part is self contained.
Each individual piece can be extracted separately, without needing any of the other pieces.

I am in need of a "disk monitor". I have a laptop that just beats on the hard drive to the point nothing runs. The CPU usage is fine but something is continually writing to the disk. I tried SysInternals diskmon but get and error about access denied when running it.

Is there such a utility that will tell me what is beating up the hard drive?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

Apparently, there is a newer version of CCleaner but I am unable to update my current one to it.   Whenever I attempt to do it, the following happens:  Can't reach this page.  Make sure you have the right web address http://www.piriform.com with the options to search http://www.piriform.com on Bing or Refresh.  When I click Details at the bottom of the page,  I get a technical error with the following information: There was a temporary DNS error. Try refreshing the page.
Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

At this point, I am not sure exactly what to do in this situation.  Should I uninstall my outdated version of CCleaner and Google for the most current one, download it, and install?  Or, is it possible to somehow troubleshoot the problem with the pre-installed version of CCleaner?

              Thank you

              George

Hi Experts,

I have some tasks that currently users must do it manually in daily bases, however since this is prone to errors, the manager would like it should get automated done via code.

1- Look for specific file in default download folder that name starts with Tables_TodaysDate_LatestNumber.Zip (See attached).
2- Extract it to specific folder (C:\Application)
3- Delete old File C:\Application\Tables.MDB
4- Rename extracted file (something like Tables_2017-Oct-30_2230.mdb) to Tables.MDB

Would prefer it done either by calling some DOS commands from VBA or just using native VB functions if possible.

Thanks in advance.

What are the best programs that will detect and clear duplicate files?

Several clients of mine have a lot of pictures on their computers.

Some of these pictures are the exact same picture even though all of these pictures have different file names.

What are the best software programs for detecting and clearing these duplicate files?

Hello Experts, I've used CCleaner for years both personally & professionally.  Since their recent incident,  being hacked, I've lost confidence is the application, not only this my work has now banned the use of it.  So with that being said I'm looking for something similar to use.
