Thunderbird

Thunderbird is an email, newsgroup, news feed, and chat (XMPP, IRC, Twitter) client that supports POP and IMAP and LDAP address completion. The vanilla version is not a personal information manager, although the Mozilla Lightning extension adds PIM functionality. Thunderbird can manage multiple email, newsgroup, and news feed accounts and supports multiple identities within accounts. Features such as quick search, saved search folders, advanced message filtering, message grouping, and labels help manage and find messages. Thunderbird incorporates a Bayesian spam filter, a whitelist based on the included address book, and can also understand classifications by server-based filters such as SpamAssassin. Extensions allow the addition of features.

Historically I've kept lots of email locally on my laptop.  This includes historical email, but also email with links, product license codes/keys, etc.

With my old laptop, I would clone my laptop regularly and copy my Outlook offline folders even more regularly to a thumb drive.

I got a new laptop and I can no longer use Outlook for my personal email, so I've switched to Thunderbird.  I'd like to improve on my previous approach by using my OneDrive for these files, which should keep me from losing almost any mail.

Does anyone know of a process to move the offline TB folders in their default location to a One Drive folder?  Is it as simple as copying them and changing where Thunderbird looks?

I'm used to using Outlook for email and in Outlook you can close an email message with the escape key.  This is very convenient and speeds up processing email greatly.

Is there any shortcut key combo where I can do the same in Thunderbird?

I mean that I want to close an email I've opened by clicking on it so that it's opened in a new tab.  In Outlook it opens as a new window.

Alternatively, if there's a way to get the email to open in a new window and if Thunderbird then allows a user to close that window with the escape key that's even better.  That's the way Outlook works and I'm used to it.

I'm looking for a way to move email I have in an Outlook *.pst file to Thunderbird that actually works.

I used to use Outlook for personal email, which I kept in a *.pst file.  The company policy has changed however and I cannot use Outlook for personal email any longer.

My personal email is Gmail and Thunderbird has been a long-time supplier of a solid email product so I installed that and it works fine, however I have thousands of email in a hierarchy of perhaps a hundred folders I need to move over.

I've tried uploading to gmail folders from Outlook on another computer, however that's a complete joke.  Files don't show up.  The equivalent of folders in email don't get created.  Just a disaster.

I've downloaded a thunderbird extension for import, however it fails while throwing windows errors.

I have yet to find a program that can move the email (and the folder hierarchy) into Thunderbird, so I'm writing to see if anyone can recommend one that will actually work.  Free or otherwise.

Finder and deleting old Mac Thunderbird emails

I have deleted a handful of old email accounts in Thunderbird. But, I forgot to always check the checkbox to remove the associated emails.

Now, I am asked to compress the emails, which are ~275 GB.

Is there a way to find these folders and delete them manually?

Thanks

Hello,

This is the 1st of 3* questions re searching in Mozilla Thunderbird email manager:

How do you determine the specific folder/subfolder in which a particular search-result email resides?

In other words, after entering search criteria, Thunderbird displays a list of messages which match the specified criteria. Selecting one of the messages displays its content OK but how do you determine the specific folder/subfolder which contains that message?

Thanks

On a mac, I have a program that can send an email of some date. We are trying to use Thunderbird instead of macMail. I have the default email client set in Mail's preferences as Thunderbird but the program keeps grabbing the macMail client for sending this information. This is happening on all workstations (this is a dental practice management piece of software.) I checked with the software company and there are not settings within the program that control what program is used for email and is selected through the defaults. I have not been able to find anything on this via Google. Any help with this would be appreciated.

BTW: The OS is Sierra,10.12.6

Bill

A client of mine is using Thunderbird email program with an AOL email address using IMap, not POP. He wants to rearrange his folders, putting some as subfolders of others.  Should he do this on Thunderbird, and then will AOL rearrange their folders to match, or should he do this on AOL, or both, or shouldn't it matter?  Because it's IMAP I'm afraid that messing with the folders will screw up the folders either online or in Thunderbird.
Thanks,
Al

Hi- a computer tech here replaced our hard drive, which was crapping out. He said he moved everything over, but we had to download and reinstall Thunderbird email client and Firefox.

The problem is, we don't have the bookmarks or histry in FF, and we created a new profile in Thunderbird, but we don't have any of the old folders or sent emails.

Now, we do have a macrium reflect image which I can browse, from just a few days ago. I copied the profiles from appdata into each of the profile folders on the new C drive.

But still no luck. What am I missing? Thanks!

We've long used WinMail.exe on a Windows server 2008 to process outgoing emails from an app hosted on that machine.  The beauty of WinMail.exe is that it runs as a service, or more precisely, it doesn't have to be actually OPEN and running on the server all the time.

We're now migrating to Windows Server 2016, and do not see any references to WinMail.exe there.  Can someone suggest an alternative?  Mozilla Thunderbird has been recommended to us, but we're not sure if it can run in the background.

Thoughts?

Hello,

Each time I start Thunderbird, the question pops up: use  Thunderbird as the default client .... and I says yes.
What is more, at Default Programs, Thunderbird has all rights.
But still it doesn't work.

I use Windows 7, Thunderbird 60.0

If I click on a link to send a mail, Internet Explorer pop up with : "Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed"

What should I do?
Thank you!

Hi

I have three different systems installed with Thunderbird 52.9.1 32bit and four extensions (Gsyncontact, Lightning, Provider for Google Calendar and QuickFolders) :
a Windows Server 2012 R2, an old ASUS P8Z68-V-PRO (16GB RAM + 512GB SSD) and a brand new XPS15 9575 - the last two run under Windows 10 64bit

The XPS and the Server both suffer from a strange phenomena that seems to me to be linked to the calendar reminders
A blank grey rectangle appears at the bottom right hand side of the Windows desktop screen
thunderbird-grey-rectangle.pngThe only way to get rid of it is to restart Thunderbird

It is a little annoying and was wondering if anyone else was suffering from this and what the workaround was ?

thanks

I received an email today (8/12/2018) that appears to have been sent on MAY 5 of this year.

I ran MailWasher as usual and saw this unusual email. Mailwasher wouldn't open it. Fine. I opened Thunderbird, and it did not appear in today's emails.

I opened my Earthlink mail account (that's the address it was sent to) and there was the email - no spam, nothing attached, no problem...except that it was apparently sent on May 5.

What the heck is the deal with THAT and the other dead ends involved in this mess?

Outlook 2016 is randomly asking for passwords to pop/imap account.  It is a Verizon.net email account and I have the proper settings:
pop.verizon.net SSL 993

smtp.verizon.net SSL 465

I can setup the same account in Thunderbird on the same PC and it appears to work all the time (Only been a short while...).  I have deleted the general credentials.  I do get an ERR SYS/temp error.

How do I transfer my bell mail address book to Thunderbird?  Bell mail is IMAP and I believe that Thunderbird is IMAP as well.
Typically, one exports the file as a csv file and then import the address book to the new email program.  The problem is that
the computer I am trying to do this with does not have Microsoft Office.  It is using Open Office and the spreadsheet program is called Calc.
Therefore, the option of using a csv file is not possible.
Is it possible to transfer the address book (export and import) or must I input the email addresses manually?  There are 143 email addresses.
thanks,
capreol

I have some blockage on my iCloud email

I do not understand why, but certain emails do not show up on my iCloud account.

I logged into iCloud.com and saw no error or sign it was  not working. But I do know that certain emails have been lost. Such as, my WordPress site has an outbound email with a PDF attached. I pulled my hair out with the email not showing up until I used my trusty GMail.

Other things I fear are also blocked.

In my ThunderBird (Mac) for the iCloud email, there is no SPAM folder. So, perhaps it is being flagged somewhere as SPAM, but not visible either on ThunderBird or online at iCloud.com

Suggestions?

Thanks
