Thunderbird is an email, newsgroup, news feed, and chat (XMPP, IRC, Twitter) client that supports POP and IMAP and LDAP address completion. The vanilla version is not a personal information manager, although the Mozilla Lightning extension adds PIM functionality. Thunderbird can manage multiple email, newsgroup, and news feed accounts and supports multiple identities within accounts. Features such as quick search, saved search folders, advanced message filtering, message grouping, and labels help manage and find messages. Thunderbird incorporates a Bayesian spam filter, a whitelist based on the included address book, and can also understand classifications by server-based filters such as SpamAssassin. Extensions allow the addition of features.

I have a client who's HDD crashed. I was able to recover all his files etc including his Outlook PST file.
I am setting up his new computer and will be using Thunderbird. Does anyone know the procedures for converting
a stand alone PST file into a format that I can import into Thunderbird? Also the procedures for importing the
converted file into Thunderbird.
if at all possible I would rather not pay for a program .
If I need to install Outlook (MS Office) on the new computer it would be nice to get a link to where I can download
a trial version.

i recently installed Thunderbird on my new setup windows 10-64bit
all is ok - except a couple of things :
1-   here you see a part of the adress book - well populated, after importing from old setup
but when i type an adress in an e-mail - it does not see the adresses; but it does see the adresses i did put in by typing an email adress
the same goes for the folder "verzamelde adressen" (now they are in the personal folder)
how can i make them see the adresses?

2-   in the following screenshot, you see an adress  - but i cannot copy the adress into my new mail
any solution how to get that working too
While sending HTML links to a relative using Thunderbird I discovered an anomaly or mistake or something?

The web page I wish the relative to access is

but if you place that in an email and send it the hyperlink turns into

http://www.jawamarkt.cz/en/search/electr-ignition-set-12volt-top-price  (the hyphen is still there but doesn't form part of the hyperlink).

So ...

Is this an error on Thunderbird's part or is there a reason for it?
Are hyperlinks in HTML allowed to have a hyphen at end or must they finish with a letter or number?
I can not find, for the life of me, how to get Thunderbird to update my GMail password. I needed to change the password, and GMail blocks me from using an old password, so I can not solve the problem by going back to the ld one.

I can not get it to update properly.

I am sometimes presented with a GMail login window where the "Next" button does nothing, even tough I enter the correct email address.

So, how do I explicitly set the password for an existing email account on Thunderbird?

I have an email to you out and would like my press release, a PDF, to be more than just an attachment. I'd like it to be the body of the email.

How do I do this?

And can I add a few sentences, as a personal note, above the body of the email?

now i want to move from outlook to thunderbird, how to do it . please suggest if there is any free tool to convert pst to mbox?
Hi all... we have a GMail account that we have been sharing the same mailbox via IMAP in Thunderbird Ver. 52.2.1 for months with no issues.  As of last Friday (July 14, 17) all of the PC's stopped being able to sync their email with the server.  They are all getting an error message that says "Server ____@gmail.com has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem."  I've not been able to find any indication that GMail is having any issues and have had no luck getting any of them working.  Deleting the account and recreating it works but it will not load any of the folders and still gives the same error message.  Accessing the account works normally when using the GMail website.  I've spent most of the day reading through and trying some of the old suggestions on old blogs to no avail.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I need a powerful, paid Thunderbird to Outlook (PST) converter for over 30 Win 7 (some Win 10) desktops that I will install Outlook 2016 on.  The current Thunderbird accounts are setup mostly in POP3 and some Thunderbird's have 2 POP3 accounts.

The free ones, are too much of a pain and will pay to have a good one that does not have me doing manual work.

I have a bunch of emails now in Thunderbird, and would like to group them.

Can I do that?

I'm in a real pickle! I am using Dovecot on a Linux mail server with IMAP folders . I've moved a Thunderbird profile from a Windows 7 mail client to Linux. That worked just fine, all folders and messages showed up. Then I did something, I've no idea what. Now, I can only see messages from the Maildir/cur folder on the server. None of the INBOX subfolders show up. I tried restoring again the original Windows profile, but same result. I continue to get the "The current operation on 'inbox' did not succeed" message. It says, "refer to server log for more information". There is nothing in Tools > Developer Tools > Error console. Where is this server log? Perhaps that will give me a clue as to what happened.

I desperately need to try and get this back in action by morning or the user is out of luck for email tomorrow.

can anyone tell me how to migrate my emails from my thunderbird profile to windows outlook 2013, please suggest me any free tool

When using Thunderbird, how do you copy or save images that are embedded in the body of a received email (ie images were pasted into the body of the email by the sender and not attached as files)?

I received an email which contains 4-5 images pasted in the body. Right-clicking on the image brings up a menu but there is no Save or Save as option. There is a Copy option but after selecting that, nothing appears when pasting it. Furthermore, Ditto clipboard manager (which retains a duplicate of everything copied to the clipboard) has no sign of it. I also tried Select all (Ctrl+a) — which does highlight the images — followed by Ctrl+c but the paste includes only the text from the email.

At this point, it seems like my only option is to use the Snipping Tool to capture the images from my screen one-at-a-time. However, I would be very surprised if Thunderbird does not have a way to do it and the problem is that I just don't know what that is.

The pc owner has a Dell with Windows 7 but Windows 10 disc came with it. He says or thinks that Windows 10 is integrated in the system since he has a disc to use to acquire 10 any time he desires.

He uses Thunderbird and I sent him an image as an attachment from my e-mail. He also got an attachment from someone else as a .doc.
He opens the .doc using Word and it prints fine. Thunderbird opens a window and he chooses which program he wants to open it with and Word is right there for him to choose.
I'm there and when I choose Windows Picture Manager to open my attached photo so I can print a few wallet sized the print job gets stuck in the queue and fails to complete printing. There is a green progress bar and I can not see the green get to the right end of the bar before it closes. I've tried saving the image to the desktop and then open it with the same program and try to print again and it gets stuck in the queue behind the other one. The pc owner says the pc has a mind of it's own. (?)
It will not print from an e-mail or from the desktop so he says.

I opened Google and went to my ISP's website and accessed my own e-mail that way and looked in my sent folder and there was the image I had sent him. I right clicked and saved it to his desktop and opened it with his Picture Manager and it failed to print and got stuck in the queue. All in the queue can be cancelled except the first one. I tried a reboot and no success getting the first one totally cancelled.

I have Thunderbird for Mac on my end.

Hello there!

I am trying to transfer data (emails, contacts) from MS Outlook 2000 to Thunderbird.
There is no direct export option that would be OK in Outlook 2000.

Can you please suggest which steps to take to transfer emails and contacts.

Thanks and regards!
I'm sure this is an easy issue for the experts, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Exchange 2013 Server and Outlook for everyone works great.  Can also setup Thunderbird and it works.  Problem happens when I log into a machine (domain joined or even non-domain joined) as Sally and try to setup Thunderbird with Jim's account.  I've given Sally full delegate access from Jim's account, but still won't work.  As soon as I login as Jim on the machine then I can setup the email account in Thunderbird.  What do I need to do to let Sally login to a machine and setup Jim's account in Thunderbird?
Can anyone recommend a software tool to migrate Thunderbird to Outlook. Please have used the tool and let me know if there is anything I might need to know to make the migration go smoothly

Hello,   I have recently run to a problem with a streaming capture program which was causing a BSOD 0xC2. Finally determined that it was related to the rrnetcap.sys from Audials. Anyway, used Revo UNinstaller to remove all traces, I think. Have had no issues with booting/startup in Windows 7 SP1. I then began to realize issues with both FF & TB afterward. So, being frustrated saved my profiles and uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller as well. Finally things still working correctly after 4 times finally uninstalling and reinstalling, decided to remove anything which remotely looks like a plug in. Adobe, Flash, Java, etc. Reuninstalled FF & TB completely, and even after removing any traces of Mozilla in registry, still having a problem with nothing but a clean install, default profile, nothing else added FF alone still have a problem with trying to open Options. If I try using "about:preferences" I get the same response. I realized this in TB as well and that's why I figured this to be a common problem between the 2 applications. I have performed CHKDSK with recovery no bad sectors, performed SFC /scannow - all is without error. Really cannot figure this out, and see nothing discussed as similar. Have tried other things noted in forum, but perhaps I have overlooked something. Appreciate any assistance anyone may have.

This question has been posted to the Mozilla Forum and have received the "pat" answer. I have followed the recommended clean install, all with …

I have a Yahoo account which is having mail forwarded to it from a domain mail server. I'd like to keep it that way if possible.

The problem: Thunderbird (which has one account only [Yahoo] configured) seems to require more than just additional SMTP accounts configured in order to choose from which address to send a mail. The goal is to be able to send from x@domain, y@domain etc. at will. I'm hoping to be able to achieve this goal without adding additional accounts in Thunderbird. Is it possible?
Hi, We're having trouble on one laptop from one server. It's prodigy.net.mx. We're with Telmex in Mexico, and we're in Mexico physically.

The problem laptop is running Windows 7, using Thunderbird 45.8.0.

Settings are:
Error message is:

If I change that user name to the email address, I get:

What other information do you need? Thanks in advance.
Hotmail has started blocking my email to my sister's Hotmail.  My server is Media Temple.   I am getting the following when attempting a send:

host mx1.hotmail.com [yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy]: 550 SC-001 (SNT004-MC1F1) Unfortunately, messages from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list. You can also refer your provider to http://mail.live.com/mail/troubleshooting.aspx#errors.

Media Temple has submitted the IP block to Microsoft several times but still blocked.  So thought I would just switch my SMTP server to Google, but Google keeps rejecting the connection.  I have some many searches, but most hits are related to PHP scripts under Ubuntu or Word Press.  Many are also four years or so old, and I hear that Google fiddles with this frequently.  I looked into "Send as" settings, but that seems to be a way for using my own server SMTP for a Google account.  I have been using the suggested setup, so I think I need something at the Google end.
I want to make a macro that I can schedule to run periodically that will run a Thunderbird menu item.  It is pretty simple: send alt-t, then <down> some number of times, then <Enter.>.  A keyboard utility would be fine if it could be configured to run every few minutes.
I can't believe this situation has persisted for years and years: hundreds of postings that the TBird junk service will mark an email as junk but will not move it.  The learning system is pretty good at marking something as junk, but not move it.  Yes, I have read dozens of postings of how-to, etc, so let's just agree it is broken; sometimes moves junk, most times does not.

So I wrote a filter to look for the Junk flag and move the email.  It does that very well.  But I have to manually run it when needed; it does not automatically run, though it is set up to.  So again, dozens of requests for a utility that will schedule a filter to run; no such animal that I can find.

So the bottom line is I am looking for a scheduler that will allow me to schedule my filter to run every few minutes, or even better: run a set number of seconds after email downloads are complete.
a friend has cablevision optonline home internet service with dynamic DHCP.

She's been using Windows Live Mail on her windows 7 machine to access her optonline (OOL) and gmail email accounts.

About a month ago, she wasn't able to send mail with Windows Live app using the optonline account: the OOL server wouldn't accept the mail.  And when she sent from gmail to OOL users via live mail app, it was blocked by Cablevision.

When using the gmail and OOL webmail, everything worked perfect. Calling OOL tech support they said one of her machines was infected with malware and they blocked her outbound sending ability.

we had checked her machine and told them it was clean. OOL then removed the block they said.

The problem came back recently.  She had a number for OOL shared services which is a 2nd tier part of support it seems.  But they were no help, blaming winfdows live app for the problem.  We installed thunderbird with the same results.  It would appear that her IP address was on RBLs which is what we saw. But OOL said they don't use the RBLs that we saw she was on.

I had her turn off her cable modem last night and this morning when powering it on, she got a different IP address.  But that one is on several RBLs also.

Then I started checking other IPs in those ranges and those are also on RBLs

would anyone have any advice? Are OOL IP address ranges automatically on some RBLs?  I can't see why or when these IP addresses were put on the RBLs.
