Virtualization is the act of creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, including (but not limited to) a virtual computer hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or computer network resources. Virtualization is usually the creation of a system that executes separate from the underlying hardware resources, or the creation of an entire desktop for systems located elsewhere, similar to thin clients.

I have a couple of virtual win 2016 standalone servers. I am trying to copy a .exe file from one server to another on the same network. It gets less than have way through before it fails and says it encountered an unspecified error. When I look at my event event viewer I am getting a lot of 5973 errors and it says to look at the Microsoft Windows TWinUI log for more info. When I look there I can't determine the error. The 5973 error has something to do with Cortana which I disabled in the local group policy as suggested in a Google search. Also tried running with a non admin account as well as an admin account. UAC is turned on. All windows updates have been applied. I need to copy this file. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I attached some of the errors

Thank you,

I have a client that has been using a legacy app that runs under non-dedicated VMware 2 - yes, that's not a typo - on a Dell Windows 2008 server for several years.  The Windows 2008 server is reaching its Dell support end-of-life, so we will be obtaining a new Windows 2019 Standard server.  The client is in the process of selecting a new / current application to replace their old legacy app, but this transition will take several months, so I need to recreate a non-dedicated VMware environment on the new Windows 2019 server to allow the legacy app to run there during the transition period.  I will also need to have HyperV running on the new Windows 2019 server.  In order to test this out, I built a test Windows 2019 server on my network, added the HyperV role, and then installed a Vmware Workstation Pro trial.  I then copied over the folder containing the legacy apps's VMware files to the new server.  When I try to open the legacy app under Vmware Workstation, I get the following error:

"VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not compatible.  VMware workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard.  Please visit

http://www, for more details.

In researching this, I have tried the following fixes to address this:

1) Disable Device/Credential Guard in my local group policy, i.e.

navigate to ” Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Guard ” and…

Restored VM Hard Drive PathRestored pathHi,

I have W2016 HyperV Server and backup VMs to external USB HD using Window Server Backup. Fyi, the vhdx files for VMs reside on E:\HyperV\Virtual Hard Disks folder.
Today I wanted to restore this VM "PDC" to an separate external USB hard drive (F drive) so that I can set it up on another HyperV in different network.

During Recover Operation in Window Server Backup, chose "Recover" in Windows Server Backup", I chose "This Server", "Hyper-V", selected "PDC" VM, "Recover to alternate location" and selected "F:\Restore" folder. I believe I chose to restore "HyperV components...?" as well.

The vhdx was restored to F:\Restore\PDC\E_\HyperV\Virtual Hard Disks, which was what I wanted. However, I discovered that the virtual machine was shut down and when I started this VM, I realized  that it was slow coming up and discovered that Virtual hard disk location was changed to F:\Restore\PDC\E_\HyperV\Virtual Hard Disks\PDC.vhdx.

Can I simply shutdown this VM,, change virtual hard disk path to E:\HyperV\Virtual Hard Disks folder and start it?
Will it do no harm?

may I know if the replication job for SQL server in process will impact on user access or not .

I am replicate about 5TB data over to remote site this will take about a week to finish .
I have a laptop that gets connected to the internet through WiFi. but many WiFi’s and depends where I am (home, office, customer,etc...)
my laptop is windows 10 Pro.
I have a virtual box installed and I have installed on it Ubuntu.
unfortunately I am not being able to make my Ubuntu VM connect to the internet.
can someone help me on how to achieve this ?
the weird thing is that I also have another VM that is windows 2012 server and this VM has internet without me doing any configuration change !
thank you
Disk ManagementHi,
I have a Windows 10 Virtual Machine in Hyper-V Server. I had 50GB of disk space and it was running out of space. So I increased the disk space to 100GB. However when I try to expand the C drive in Disk Management, there is 507MB healthy(recovery partition) that prevents me from adding 50GB Unallocated space to existing C drive partition.
First of all, Is it typical to see 507MB healthy(recovery partition) on Windows virtual machines? What is the purposed of that?
Secondly, what options do I have? I need to somehow increase the disk space on this virtual machine.

I am introducing a new Windows Server 2019 VM into our Windows Server 2012 AD domain.  The primary DC is a physical Server, and the replicating DC is virtualized.
The 2019 Hyper-V host was installed into a WorkGroup.  I plan on installing the first VM as a Windows Server 2019 DC and then eventually move all the FSMO roles.
The existing Windows Server 2012 DCs will be demoted and removed once I install the new Windows Server 2019 DC, and then install another replicating DC using Windows Server 2016 on a separate Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V server.
Also my existing Windows Server 2012 primary DC holds all the FSMO roles.

Questions About Installing the Windows Server 2019 Hyper-V host:

1.  For recovery purposes is it best to leave the host in a Work Group or Domain joined.  I am thinking there could be problems booting the Hyper-V host if/when the Primary and replicating DC are not available.
2.  Any other suggestions/recommendations on configuring the Hyper-V host before I start installing VMs?
3.  I installed SonicWALL CaptureClient Advanced Protection, and also defined all necessary global exclusions for Hyper-V and Domain Controllers.  Any issues using this software.

Best Practice Questions about configuring the Virtual Machine Settings for a VM that is a DC, specifically holding all FSMO Roles, AD Integrated DNS, and DHCP:

1.  We have a small network with 25 computers, SQL 2014 Server, File Server, and includes two replicating DCs.  Moving from on …
New virtual machines taking long to shut down. Using vSphere Web Client to manage VMs.
VMs is in our domain. Any ideas why the VMs are taking so long to shut down?
I am trying to understand how SD-WAN helps SaaS connectivity for an enterprise company.  What I know only that SD-WAN is used for WAN connectivity between Main and Remote Offices.
For example if I am located at branch office and wants to connect with Office 365 then how SD-WAN make a connectivity with Microsoft Cloud ?

Can someone please shed some light on this ?
I have a service written in Delphi.  it has been tested and run on many machines.
it writes to a log file(on create/install/uninstall), then starts an executable periodically

however, setting it up on a new 2016 server VM (created through Azure if that helps)
isn't going to well.

the log file isn't being written to(ever), and the the service absolutely is refusing to start.

the application it is starting has been tested and is runs with no issue.

the Account being used is the local system.
we have also tried using the admin user, same result.
It fails with error 1053,  and no log is generated (I have startup message in the create statement), I don't know where to look

any idea would be appreciated
Hi There,

Im looking to to VM build automation.

Do we have a method to build VM in VMware 6.x using a script or any automation way also we need to put the machine name in the automation job.
i need to participate in failover exercise of VM's being migrated from primary data center to secondary data center.

i need to give helping hand regarding validation, can you give me some simple examples , what i i can tell the vmware admin, i need to validate

like for ex. whether servers are up , or NIC is configured, any other thoughts you can share, something simple which needs validations
Hi Experts, I have a physical server with Windows Server installed. In the attachment the disks and volumes are shown.

I need to install a virtual machine (HyperV) on this server that requires approx. 100 GB. The OS volume  has 110 GB free and the Data volume disk 1 TB. By default HyperV would like to install the virtual server on the OS volume. I wonder if I can install on the Data volume instead. If not, can you please point me to the correct procedure to shrink the Data volume and expand the OS volume, if this is the preferred solution.

Thanks for any help!
I power down a datacenter following the procedure as below.
1. Disabled vSphere HA.
2. Powerdown all VM.
3. Enter into maintenance mode of Esxi hosts except for the one host which holds vCenter.
4. Power down the ESXi host.
I noticed all the VM were migrated to the last ESXi even though the VMs were power down. I was expecting the powerdown VMs to be on the ESXi host where they were running.
Why did they move to the last Esxi host?
Hi Experts

RDP has stopped working on our Windows 10 VM running on HyperV we get the attached error.

I have checked the event logs and can't see any errors. I've also tried disabling the windows firewall and AV.

Dear Experts,

We have a hyper v cluster running on 2016. One of our customer is asking for 2 sockets 4 core each instead of 1 socket and 8 cores for his virtual machine.

I tried go through the documentation and google search yield inconclusive result. As I see it may not be possible with Hyper V

Can you any suggest if this is possible by any means?

Looking forward to hear from you

I have a qnap storage that is connected to my server through iscsi

Installed HyperV Manager on Server 2012R2 . Have created a VM into which I've installed Server 2012.

At present there are no virtual network switches in HyperV Manager so no connectivity for the VM.

If I add a Virtual Switch in HyperV Manager (External network) - at the point of clicking apply i have a
warning may lose network connectivity for a while and overwrite some  static settings.

This is a production server in a remote location so cannot risk losing connectivity to it . Is this a generic message
I can ignore ? Thank you.

HyperV Virtual Switch Manager with warning message
VMWare host running ESXI 6.0 U3 on a DELL R740.

One of the basic Win2012 R2 server is not able to be backed up. When launching a backup task from Veeam, it fails with "operation not allowed in current state".  Looking at the VMWare host, this error appears to be passed through from an attempted Snapshot request.  See screens below.

My endpoint management system (Kaseya) deployed Windows updates to my Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V guest VMs starting Saturday morning. All of my guest VMs seems to be working okay except for one.

This one server displays a message indicating it is working on Stage 2 of 4 for the update, shows a progress of 35% complete, then 100% complete and then restarts and repeats this same process over and over and over again. This apparently has been going on all weekend.

I've got the VM screen stopped at Advanced Boot Options at the moment but I'm not sure which option to choose or even where to go from here. This is the DirSync server for Office 365 and I only periodically backup the virtual disk files from time to time, so I don't have a recent recovery set for it.

Note: the latest report I have on disk space for the VM indicates the C: drive is only 66% full, so I don't think it's a problem with insufficient disk space.

Any help would be appreciated (my Hyper-V experience is pretty limited).
We are running Daily, Monthly and Quarterly VEEAM backups of our environment of 15 VMs. I just learned from our MSP that all of the backups are incremental. Does this matter? I was under the assumption that the Daily backup was incremental, then on the seventh day the backup was a full backup. Perhaps that wouldn't make sense as a full backup may run for several days which would impact the daily incremental. Could someone shed some light?
I have an RHEL 7 running on physical server that's been fully hardened.
Would like to convert it to a VM image for use as template for future
VMs (running RHEL) rollout.

Can help provide the detailed steps involved?
Do we do P2V or we can take a backup (dd backup??) to make it to a
bootable iso?

We are using VMWare vSphere 6.5
