VMware is virtual machine software that provides a virtualized set of hardware (a video adapter, a network adapter, and hard disk adapters) to the guest operating system. VMware virtual machines become highly portable between computers, because every host looks nearly identical to the guest. In practice, a system administrator can pause operations on a virtual machine guest, move or copy that guest to another physical computer, and there resume execution exactly at the point of suspension. VMware's enterprise software hypervisors for servers, VMware ESX and VMware ESXi are bare-metal embedded Hypervisors that run directly on server hardware without requiring an additional underlying operating system.

Datastore conflicts with an existing datastore when trying to add a ESX 6.7 hosts into a VCenter cluster.

This happened when I applied the lastest non-critical and critical patches to ESXi host 6.7U3. The VM's were moved to another hosts and the hosts rebooted but it was in disconnected state and when I went to try to connect it to the VCenter cluster after 15 minutes, I got the "Datastore conflicts with an existing datastore" error.

I removed the hosts from the inventory and tried again but got the same error. It did notify me of the database in conflict but the vm1 numbers for the datastore naa on all hosts is the same.

3 x ESXi Hosts 6.7 (2 are in the cluster). The third is the one I am trying to re-add.

I have the following enabled:

VSphere DRS On
VSphere HA On
VM EVC Disabled

Storage Cluster Manual Mode
VSphere Storage DRS On

What is the recommended procedure to re-add the hosts and clean up the Datastore conflict.

Thank you,

Can anyone explain why the ESXI host server does not pass a USB connection to the VM running on it?  We plugged 3 different USB keys into the server but when we bring up the server OS it doesnt show.

Hi,

I'm considering converting to a VSAN architecture with a hybrid model and am curious if there is any recommended ssd vs hdd ratio that is recommended?  One host I already have a 500GB ssd in, but will need to buy one for the 2nd one.

Right now, I have 4.8TB of hdd space on the host that has the 500TB ssd drive, and 7.8TB of hdd space on the host that has no ssd on it.

Not all of this space is active VMs, and of those that are, 90% of the time they are lightly loaded.

Vmware vSwitch Traffic Shaping

In Vmware vSwitch the traffic shaping section is by default disabled.
I would like to have some understanding of its elements  if it was enabled.

Thank you

VMware Mac Address Changes Reject /Accept

In Vmware vSwitch settings there is an option about Mac address Change , either set to Reject or Accept .

- I would like to know if there is a way to change the burned -in Mac address.
- I would like to know if there is a way to add new Mac address in VMX file for non-existing Network adapter
- If I add new Network Adapter while the Change Mac Address is set to Reject, will this stop traffic going out of that new New Network Adapter ?

Thank you

Hello Experts,

I received this thinksystem SR590 server and it has a VMware esxi 6.7 U3 (factory installed) when I login to it I see that it has 60 day evaluation windows,. I called Lenovo and they indicated that send out the server with VMWARE installed only and the license has to be purchased.

My question is how to buy the license? and how much it costs.

Thanks,

Hello Experts,

I have a thinksystem SR590 and the vmware came preinstalled, I managed to create the RAID 1 between 2 disks of size 960GB , I am not able to see the 2 more disks. I thought of adding a datastore for each individual remaining disks but I do not see them.

Am I missing a driver update and how can I update the vmware in the esxi. I login to the vmware but I get this screen in image about URL or datastore what shall I put before I proceed? The image is attached. host updatehardware

Is there a way to objectively measure the performance for VMWare Horizon VDI sessions? I have some complaints of slowness
or slowness. But I'd like to get some numbers to try and correlate the issue with other things seen in monitoring. Anything
available?

I am running an dell r720xd esxi 6.0.0, 15169789 lab.  I create a volume on an Equallogic ps6500. on the lab host, set my access policy and added the iscsi initiator. On the host i have 4 nics. 0 an 1 for management. 2 and 3 for vm traffic and iscsi. The host shows the iscsi vmkernal bindings are compliance and after setting dynamic discover for the dell equallogic group IP, it finds the LUN. However it shows the iscsi path as not used and the paths are not visible. whats weird is that i can ping only one of the equllogic NIC's (192.168.100.115) from esxi and not the others nor the group IP. (192.168.100.150). I can ping the iscsi VLAN gateway from the host lab (192.168.100.1).  from another host connecting to the same SAN i can ping all.  on the lab server iscsi is set to jumbo frames. i have tried to remove the iscsi adapter from the host and reboot/re-add but the same behavior.  I have two other hosts that i was able to connect to the LUN with no issues so i know its something with my lab host.  Any thoughts on what i may be missing are appreciated.

We have VMware 6.7 and unable to upload the iso image to a datastore via Vcenter UI. We can only do it via ESXi host.
Is it the only way to do ? or Is there any fixes to upload via vcenter UI?

Hi,

I have an error "VMWare Workstation" and unable to boot virtual machines.

Error:    "VMWare Workstation    Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken."
VMWare Workstation version:   VMWare Workstation 15 Pro 15.5.1
OS:   Windows 10 Pro 64bit

After I upgrade VMWare Workstation 15 Pro from "VMWare Workstation", the error started appearing.
I deleted "lck" folder, but it did not work. I also created a new Virtual machine from OVF exported file., but then still the same error message popped up.

I need your assistance to solve this error message with detail step by step guidance.

Hi,

I have 2 ESXi hosts running on 6.7.0.  Been seeing strange issues with both over the last few days and just tried to sFTP to them with WinSCP.  This has worked flawlessly before.

I get logged on to both, but WinSCP can't bring up a directory listing in either case on the host boxes.  Seems awfully odd that this would be an issue with both at the same time.  ?

One of my ESXI servers is not responding,  however, the VM's are active.  Is there a command that I can run from SSH to restart services without interrupting the VM's or do I have to reboot the entire box? If so where do I begin?

My hosts are on 5.5. I am quite behind on my updates. I am wondering- should i install all patches/extensions before running the upgrade? Or can i upgrade from where I am at to 6.0.

We are trying to follow this link for VMware to download the I/E Client Integration Plugin, but I don't see it any where in the Vcloud to download it.

Is there something I need to do or how do I download the plugin that we need?

I am currently using vSphere Web Client Version 6.5.0.23000 Build 13638625.  When I try to load the web client, I always get the Adobe error that says I must load a version of Flash that is greater than version 11.   I already have a newer version loaded.  I just right click and set the browser setting to allow instead of block and relaunch the page.  Hassle but it works.  With Flash support going end of life at the end of the year, what will replace it and should I already be using it?

I just recently cloned a VM that has been housed on my SCSI C:\ drive and installed it on an SSD drive (D:\).

After entering the password, it now takes several minutes for Windows to actually open so that I can actually do something.

I would have thought, given the relative speed of SSD over SCSI, that it would boot faster from the SSD drive.

Is this normal?

Hello Experts,

I have a task for a friend of mine and we purchased a server Lenovo Thinksystem SR590 and it has all these drives, As I was going through the specifics I noticed the VMWARE is preinstalled.

My 1st question is the vmware is preinstall does that mean I can turn it on and give it an IP and I should be able to access it using the VSPHERE. Do I need to do anything to setup the Hypervisor ?

My 2nd question is with all these drive how can i setup the storage , I need to provision the DC server, SQL SERVER, Application SERVER 1,Application server 2 and Application server 3 storage requirements.

1. If any one can send me a instructions on how to provision the storage for the Domain Controller server.  I want to give two volumes  one for C drive  and one for D volume in some applications servers and the file share server.

In vsphere I go into configuration --> storage - discover , will these drives show in the disk layout ? or I have to do anything here

Below is the specs of this server :

•      ThinkSystem 2U 3.5" SATA/SAS 8-Bay Backplane
